Unable to use interective photo galleries (i.e. New York Times' before/after Japan tsunami damages, and others, also in NYT website) Had to use Google Chrome, even though not my default browser.

On 03/13/2011, I could not use an interactive photo gallery in the New York Times website. I had a slide on each picture which showed the before and after the tsunami damage, in Japan.
I had to use Google Chrome, though Firefox is my default browser.
I had the same problem with the photo gallery of dresses during and after the Oscar event.

That site relies upon JavaScript to use the before and after feature. Make sure JavaScript is enabled, to do that open the Options window, go to the Content panel and make sure "Enable JavaScript" is selected.
If you have an add-on such as NoScript that blocks JavaScript, you need to set it to allow scripts to run on that site.

You can't open your backups directly with apps.
But you can see some types of files in your backups.  If you're still on Snow Leopard (or Lion with iPhoto '09 or earlier), see the gray box at the end of Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #15.
If you're on Lion with iPhoto '11, you can use the Finder to see the iPhoto library, per the beginning of that same link.  All you can see there is the library and size.

There are several other similar posts in this forum with the answers. Your post appears third in my Google search today looking for a solution so I thought I'd add the solution here as well.
It is obviously a bug in either (or both) Firefox and the NYT.
The quickest solution is to simply go to the VIEW Menu in Firefox, then the ZOOM option and choose RESET.
I use Mac and this happens in Firefox 3.6.10. It does not happen in other browsers like Safari, Chrome and Camino, and it did not occur before last week.
It has also occurred in the iOS version of Safari on iPad. Not sure how to fix it there.

  • After login each morning on my work desktop, none of my frequently used sites like iGoogle, New York Times, my webmail are logged in. How can I change this. Browser is set to retain cookies.

I work on an office network. I log out every evening. The next morning after I have logged back in to the system and go to FireFox, I find that I have to log back in to iGoogle, MyYahoo, The New York Times even if I've checked "remember me," or "keep me logged in". Also, on the Weather Channel site, I enter a few cities I follow. Each day, I have to reenter them because they disappear. In FireFox, the browser is set to retain cookies. Anyone have an idea of what's going on. I don't seem to have this problem with IE.

  • Adobe Reader X standalone client does not recognize default browser.

Adobe Reader works fine if I'm on a webpage and open a PDF. It opens in the browser as it should.
I have PDF files on my hard drive. I can start up Adobe Reader from the desktop and read them, but if I click a link inside the PDF, it opens in Internet Explorer which is not my default browser. I use Firefox as my browser.
Reader 9.4 works great but this new one doesn't cut it and Adobe doesn't provide any support for it that I can find.
I am using Firefox 3.6.18 on Windows Vista. I have reset my default browser several different ways now. I've made IE the default and then Firefox again. I've gone into Firefox options and told it to Check to be sure it is default. I've gone into default programs and re-chosen Firefox. Nothing has worked.
    I have 2 questions:
    1) Does anybody know how to actually contact Adobe about Reader?
    2) Does anybody know a setting for Reader anywhere that I can tweak to fix this? I'm not afraid of the registry but I'm not going to experiment in it either.

I was able to resolve this by disabling Protected Mode at startup.
Go to Edit > Preferences > select General tab > uncheck "Enable Protected Mode at startup" > restart Reader.
I do not consider this a fix since I have now disabled some of the security given to us with the upgrade. This is merely a work-around.
I submitted a bug report to Adobe. Who knows if they'll respond to it.

  • 3 Reasons Safari is not my default browser, yet.

Unfortuntately, Chrome is still my preferred browser, regardless of my desire to maintain the Apple ecosystem.  Here's why:
Prevention and Recovery: I'm on of those shortcut gurus. I use the 'Cmd+W' and 'Cmd+Alt+W' religeously.  So there are times when I accidentally hit 'Cmd+Q'  .  Chrome has a way to recover easily with 'Cmd+Alt+T', restoring all tabs in sequential action.  I wish Safari could incorporate this.  Then there is a Quit-Prevention feature that requires I hold Cmd+Q for atleast 3 seconds in order to execute a quit.  This is a simple, yet priceless feature...hopefully its not patented.  Apple can only undo a single tab currently.
BookMarks:  While no program has really revolutionized the organization of this feature, I like how bookmarks can be simplified and easy to recognize by their respective icons:
Seeing those icons in the dropdown list also speeds up locating them.
User Profiles:  Chrome allows me to have different browser profiles.  So my friend can log into her gmail easily if she needs to use my computer briefly and have access to all her bookmarks, styling, and preferences.  This is great since I don't need to create another user account on the mac.  I think iCloud profiles would be a nice integration into Safari.
    Any plans to implement these?

    Jay ...
If you want, you can provide feedback to Apple here.
No one but Apple is privy to information regarding changes to future OS X software including Safari.

  • How do I make Firefox NOT my default browser and restore Internet Explorer as default browser?

I used to have Internet Explorer as my default browser and when I went to Firefox it asked me if I wanted Firefox as my default browser and I always sad no. I must haves screwed that up somehow and I want to go back to Explorer as default.
    == This happened ==
    Not sure how often

To make Internet Explorer your default web browser, you can click on '''Tools''' from the toolbar at the top and select '''Internet Options'''. Then select the '''Programs''' tab from the top of the window to access the default browser settings. You might want to also choose to be alerted if Internet Explorer is not your default browser. Click '''OK''' to save your changes.
Please also be aware of that Firefox's latest version is [http://getfirefox.com 3.6.4] while you're running 3.5.9.

  • ITunes is telling me that my iP4 may be damaged and can't be activated, but I was using it when it turned itself off, so how can it be damaged?

iTunes is telling me that my iP4 may be damaged and can't be activated, but I was using it when it turned itself off, so how can it be damaged? I even managed to download photo's from it whilst it was turned off, so there was clearly some functionality before I restored it. Is anyone aware of any problems with the Apple's servers currently?

    Things fail sometimes.
    Was it jailbroken or "unlocked"?

  • Since upgrading Mozilla IE7 keeps stating it is NOT the default browser despite it being checked.

Mozilla and IE7 were working fine but since upgrading IE7 will not remain the default browser. Everytime I launch IE7 it states it is not the default browser. How do I resolve this issue.

Do you have IE as the default, and then, when you open Firefox, do you have it set to check if it is the default?
To check it, Inside Firefox, click on Tools, then Options. Go to Advanced. Look at the Default Browser option in there. Make sure the Checkbox to always check if Firefox is the default is unchecked if you don't want to use Firefox as your default (If you want it as default, leave it checked).
Then, you can op[en up IE, and make it your default.

  • I can using AirPrint from safari and email to my hp printer but do not get print as an option from the pulldown menu from the new york times and other apps. How can I print directly from these apps?

I can't seem to print directly from apps like the new York times. Print is not an option from the pulldown menu. Print to my hp printer works  fine from safari and email though and from some other apps. Do some apps not permit printing? That doesn't right.

Thats funny. If go to ny times on safari therebis a print icon and no problem printing. On the app -- and I am a paid subscriber -- no print option ...
You can ask the NY Times why not.
Standard behavior is that Airprint always works with iBooks, Mail, Photos, and Safari.  Apps are up to their author.

  • I updated my software to iOS6 and now my phone won't automatically join known wifi networks even though I have it on.  It goes back to 3G every so often when I'm at home instead of using wifi, and each time I ask to join it asks for my wifi password

I updated my software to iOS6 and now my phone won't automatically join known wifi networks even though I have it on.  It goes back to 3G every so often when I'm at home instead of using wifi, and each time I ask to join it asks for my wifi password

Try this for your home Wi-Fi:
On your iPhone, Settings > Wi-Fi > select your home network > "forget this network"
Power down (unplug) your wireless router
    Restart your iPhone
    Plug in your router
    Re-join that network
I don't know if this simple technique will fix it for good but try it. There is a long thread about this problem here: iOS 6 WiFi Disabled

  • If Firefox is not the default browser is there anyway to create an "Open with Firefox" right click option for internet icons on the desktop??

When internet icons on the desktop are right clicked and Firefox is not the default browser, is there anyway to create an "Open with Firefox" option in the right click menu? If not you should create one in future versions.

You will have to create a copy of the Firefox desktop shortcut and add the URL to the target line if you want to open such an internet shortcut with Firefox.
A normal internet shortcut will always open in the default browser.
