Unblocking ports on WRT54GL

I've had this WRT54GL router for years and have had no problems with it while running Network Magic but recently I had
a hard drive die on me and had to replace it. The problem is that when I installed Network Magic and then activate it, the server is no longer available so off to another networking program. I now have Homenet Manager and although it works pretty good on my wired machines, the computer which is wireless has problems connecting and it says that my Ports 137, 138,139, and 445 are being blocked by a firewall. Problem is that I have all my firewalls, virus programs disabled trying to find out what is blocking it so I am thinking the router is the culprit.
How do I go about unblocking those ports in the router?
Router: WRT54GL v4.30.14
OS: XP Pro SP3
Windows Firewall
AVAST Antivirus

What I usually do "Port Check" to make sure the port is open behind my router. I just go to http://ping.eu and go to Port Check and input the Internet IP found on the Status page of your router and the port number that needs to be opened. If the ports are closed, then we need to trigger or do port forwarding on the router. You may refer to this link:  Port Forwarding

  • Unblock ports

I'm having difficulty with my email account since installing my new Airport Extream. Talk to my local Internet/email provider and they are saying the the AE is blocking the required port (25) that allow me to send out email. How do I unblock a port that will aloow me to send emails.

I have never heard of the AE or any modem or router blocking outgoing.. yes, they can block incoming but never ever outgoing. it simply doesn't work that way. It is more like you have double NAT issues.
Or you have set the mail SMTP to the wrong server if you changed ISP. Most ISP will not allow mail relay.
Is this pop mail or web mail account?
Make sure you do not have two routers.. if the main modem is a router bridge the AE.

  • Uninstalled AOL - How Do I UNBLOCK Port 25

Had AOL Dial-Up for about a week. I dragged the application and the prefrences folder to the trash but PORT 25 is still being blocked cause I can't send mail.
    How do I unblock it?

    Hi Nick!
If you are absolutely sure there is nothing of AOL you want to keep, such as "Favorites". "Address Book", or any saved Emails in your "Filing Cabinet", to purge your system of AOL, do the following:
Quit all applications. Trash the files & folders I have listed. Empty Trash. "Repair Permissions". At this point, it wouldn't hurt to restart, and "Repair Permissions" again. Then reset any necessary System Preferences.
The paths are in all capitals, and the files/folders are under the path, marked like this:
<AOL> (Application). See the first entry, as an example.
    Path: HD > APPLICATIONS >
    File or Folder: <AOL> (Application)
    HD > APPLICATIONS > INSTALLERS >
<INSTALL AOL FOR MAC OS X>
    HD > USERS > SHARED >
    <America Online>
    HD > USERS > HOME > DOCUMENTS >
    <America Online> (Folder) If Present
    HD > USERS > HOME > LIBRARY > COOKIES >
    <Cookies.plist> (File)
    HD > USERS > HOME > LIBRARY > LOGS > CRASH REPORTER >
    <AOL.crash.log>
    HD > USERS > HOME > LIBRARY > PREFERENCES >
    <America Online> (Folder)
    <com.aol.aol.plist> (File)
    <AOL for OS X Backup Installer> (Application)
Although you may have to reset some of your connection preferences, for other browsers, to ensure there are no AOL prefs lurking about, trash these files, if present:
    HD > USERS > HOME > LIBRARY > PREFERENCES >
    <com.apple.internetconfig.plist> (File)
    <com.apple.internetconnect.plist> (File)
    <com.apple.internetpref.plist> (File)
    SYSTEM PREFERENCE SETTINGS:
System Preferences > Print & Fax > Faxing
If you have AOL mail set in the Email feature of Apple Fax, don't forget to change it to
    your present mail program.
    System Preferences > Network
Make sure AOL is not selected in: "Location".
    iPhoto Preferences:
Mail: Check that you do not have AOL selected.
    That should do it!
    Good Luck!

  • How do I unblock Ports? (WRT54GS)

There is no application on my computer associated with the Router, if someone could help me it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

The application that allows a user to configure the router is your web browser, either Internet Explorer (in Windows), Mozilla Firefox or Safari on a Mac. Typically, the router is at IP address 192.168.1.1.
To unblock the ports requires access to the router. However, the only time ports have to be unblocked is when you are serving the application to the internet and internet users need to connect to it. For example, if you were running a web page server on one PC, internet users outside of your local network couldn't reach the web pages on your server unless you configure your router to open port 80 on the router and direct requests for port 80 to the correct machine.
Is that what you are trying to do?

  • Cant unblock ports.. Tried in the past, trying again...

Hello, Ive tried to unblock my ports with my old router and had no luck. Recently I bought a Wireless-N Broadband Router WRT300N but with no luck can I unblock any ports. I have the latest firmware (v0.93.3) Ive tried DMZ as well as port forwarding, neither of them work. In port forwarding I have the ports set from 0 - 65535 protocol is both and to IP address is 192.168.1.2 which I set my IP address to be, of course enabled is checkmarked, and yes I hit save settings. I wasnt sure exactly how to set up DMZ but when I did try it, I left on "any IP address" and put my IP address in the destination. I have been searching all over the internet today and the past. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Care to explain what the difference is? I use port forwarding to be able to receive incoming calls on my VOIP device (PAP2T) in the LAN. Should I be using port triggering instead?
trigerring the ports is a feature that opens the ports for your router to request soemthing from the webserver.. it's like the router is the one who sends those outgoing request to contact the webserver for you to utilize that certain application.
on the otherhand, the forwarding of ports is a special feauture of your router that receives those incoming request to serve the clients that are utilizing the application or website you're hosting them...
if you are using port forwarding to receive the calls on your VOIP, it might be that your VOIP is having a problem for incoming that's why it's set to forwarding...
    to summarize:
    triggering = outgoing request
    forwarding = incoming request

  • U-verse blocking port 25 outbound - and doesn't want to unblock it for residential customers

Hello, I've been a customer of AT&T on U-verse service a long time but recently after my contract renewal the sales person told me that they had to change my equipment - I was suprised but I let them do it. Today when the tech showed up he was suprised to see my old equipment in place and told me that it didn't really have to be changed. He set up a new account on U-verse for me however, and when I called AT&T to unblock port 25 on this new account - they claimed that now it is their policy to not unblock port 25 for residential customers.I sounds wrong to me but I couldn't make them up block it. Can somebody help or comment on the situation? It seems just crazy to me... Thank you very much your time and input. Sincerely,Tom

  • Port 548 Shutting Down File Transfer Over Network

OK, nobody laugh, but I am trying to transfer some old work files from an ancient PowerBook 3400 (including many on Zip disks) running OS 8.1 to one of our newer machines so we can look through them at our leisure later and save those of interest.
On the PowerBook, I have successfully connected to both of the new machines (see below) via Chooser and started to copy files to those machines. In the middle of the copy, after a few minutes, I get the following message: 192.168.1.xx:548 "The file server connection has closed down". 192.168.1.xx is the LAN IP address of the receiving machine. Personal File Sharing is allowed, and file permissions have been given to Others in the receiving folder. Do I need to do authorize something on Port 548 to allow the transfer?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
    Bob

    Hi Ralph
I can see where that might be the case, but file transfer worked flawlessly BEFORE I went wireless using the same modem. The only way to unblock ports on my router is to turn NAT off - it creates a DMZ, so it permits unhindered 2-way traffic...
It's a pretty confusing piece of kit. Maybe I should just get a Netgear anyway!
I have a laptop on the wireless network as well, and file transfer works a treat between it and the iMac. All I can think of is that because I'm now working on a LAN, there's a blockage to get out to the "Real World" - even though it's easy for video to pass through.
I'll check my unblocked ports again, just to be sure. I'm unfamilar with the term "Jabber" - is that what Apple decided to call one of the elements of iChat? Excuse my ignorance...!

  • Blocked Stack Ports on 2960X-48FPD-L Stack (Unstable Switch Stack!) Spanning Tree?

I am having an issue where 2 2960X-48FPD-L Switches in a redundant flexstack (stack port 1 SW1 to port  2 SW2 and port 2 SW1 to port 1 SW2) ring.
At first running the 15.0(2).EX5 (and earlier EX3, and EX4) version IOS yielded all the ports on the stack master switch refusing to run spanning tree and would only link in amber and not pass any traffic other than CDP information (the slave switch linked in fine).
I upgraded to 15.2(3)E and this solved the problem of the ports not linking in green and participating in spanning tree.
Now, however, about every week or two I lose connectivity to the switch stack and I was able to go to the switch stack locally and found that for some reason the switch stack is blocking and unblocking VLANs on StackPort1 frequently (see below).  When I was at the site, I sometimes had connectivity, sometimes not.  A stack hard reboot brought everything back up, but this is the second time this has occurred and I would expect the same problem in the next week or so.
Has anyone else run into these issues, and have you found a solution?
I'm guessing that if I either get rid of the redundancy on the switch stack or stack using Ethernet cables between switches the problem will go away, but then what is the point of using stackable switches in a non redundant low speed stack.  It seems to me that Spanning tree thinks that I have a spanning tree loop going on with the stack ports which I didn't even think was possible.
    What do you think?

    Jim,
We have also the same problem with our 2960-X switches (access) connecting to a pair of 4500x (VSS) except our issue is with Portchannel with 2 physical links connecting the 2960xs to the 4500.
If we disconnect one of the physical links from the portchannel everything works fine, but when we connect the same physical link back all users lose connectivity and the physical link starts flapping. Here are some of the messages we see in the logs when both physical links are in the portchannel:

  • Ports blocked on the 1230's?

Please forgive me if this is posted in the wrong section, i am new to cisco products. I have a cisco 1230 wireless g AP that i have just configured with the basic settings, but its blocking some ports.
my basic network consists of a speedstream 4100 dsl modem with the ap plugged directly into it. ive talked with the telco about unblocking ports, however, they insist they are not blocking any ports what so ever. but when i try to connect through the ap to play a few games online, its showing the ports are blocked.
is there a setting or something im missing inside of the ap to prevent them from blocking the ports?
thank you for your kind advice!
    James

sadly i dont have one, but i do have an allied telesysn hub i could put between them.
i have a cisco 837 id love to get programmed and installed instead of this dsl modem i have, but im afraid the 837 is way over my head! :(.
i will try putting the hub between the two and see if that improves. thank you for your reply! :)

  • Port 25 Blocked?

    Hello,
I have family members and guests who come over to our house and can't send outgoing email becuase port 25 seems to be blocked on the verizon network. I see the need to reduce spam, however blocking port 25 across the board and not letting indivual customers call in to unblock the port is _VERY_ annoying. Please unblock port 25 verizon!

Port 25 is only blocked for people using non-Verizon outbound servers on a Verizon connection. You can configure their outbound server to use some port other than 25, or you can configure their account to use Verizon's outbound server until they leave.
Allowing customers to call in and unblock the port would make the whole system ineffective. "Excuse me, I'd like to send some email, please. I promise it's not spam." - Which is exactly what every spammer would say, too. If you really want it unblocked, you can sign up for a static IP address. At that point they can hold you accountable for messages sent from your IP.

  • Mail smtp server port problem

I just changed isp provider and I am trying to use mail with my yahoo account. Everything seems to work except sending mail. I have talked with Yahoo and Adelphia and they can not figure it out. Adelphia suggested that my server port was blocked but I don't know how that could be because it was working with my last isp verizon. How do I unblock port 25 if that is the case or do you have any other suggestions?

Most, if not all ISPs block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network (or not provided by the ISP) on Port 25. Some ISPs allow the use of an authenticated SMTP server only that is outside of their network on Port 25 but some block its use regardless.
These restrictions are in place as part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from the ISP's domain.
You cannot unblock using Port 25 with an SMTP server that is outside of your ISPs network. If using an SMTP server that is outside of your ISP's network is blocked by your ISP on Port 25, only your ISP can do so.
Are you also accessing an email account and SMTP server in Mail that is provided by Adelphia and if so, are you able to send mail with your Adelphia email account?
If so, sounds like the person you talked to with Adelphia does not know what they are talking about.
    Something to try.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your Yahoo account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below.
Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
Test if this resolves the problem. If not and you are accessing an email account and SMTP server in Mail provided by Adelphia and you are able to send messages with this account, select/use Adelphia's SMTP server to send mail with your Yahoo email account which is invisible to all recipients.

  • How to configure WRT54GL as router only?

I already have a linux server doing all the routing for my internet connection. I just wanted to add Wireless access for wireless devices i just bought. So, i want to configure this wrt54gl only as wireless router.
So, I configure this wrt54gl as router mode. I connected this port 1 wrt54gl into my existing wired switch. I configure the wrt54gl to account lan IPs of 192.168.10.200 to 250. When I try to connect my wireless notebook, it can connect and get the IP. But problem is the notebook get gateway of wrt54gl. How can I make this wrt54gl to give out my real gateway, 192.168.10.1???
My linux server is the real gateway with IP 192.168.10.1
    WRT54GL ip is 192.168.10.100
Do I need to connect the lan into the internet port instead?

Perhaps this is something to do with Setup --> Advanced Routing --> Static Routing??
I don't know what value to fill up. I tried just now and it caused routing problems. I had to reset the router to factory default and configure the thing again.
    Appreciate any feed back.
