Uninstall OS 9 classic

Hello, I just upgraded to Tiger but I still have classic looming around my harddrive. How can I deinstall it? I can't just drag it to the trash.
Thanks
WA

I am having major problems. Here's my question:
Currently when I go to STARTUP DISK, I have the following choices:
Mac 10.4.3 on Mac HD (my boot drive)
Mac 10.2.5 on Mac HD1
Mac 10.3.9 on Mac HD2
Mac 9.2.2 on Mac HD2
Mac 9.2.2 on Mac HD
I would like to just use 10.4.3. How do I unistall the other operating systems? To complicate matters even more, I have Final Cut Pro 4 and I want to put this on its own boot drive. Do I have to partition one of my hard drives? Can't I use the FCP program to boot my system from? I think I have many cconflicts which is why my system is sluggish. Also, what if I just wanted to re-intsall 10.2 and start over? Goven that FCP 4 uses QT 6.4 or later, I don't think I can do that. Correct? I have many more questions but will start here. Thanks a lot.

If you do not like Apple's Safari web browser, download, install and try Mozilla FireFox, instead.
The current, up-to-date version of FireFox is fully compatible with OS X and is regularly updated by the great developers of the Mozilla group.
I have, also, stopped using the Google search engine, regularly and use DuckDuckGo as my default search engine.

  • E book bought from Waterstones is very slow in use can you, help?

E book bought from Waterstones is unreasonably slow in use can you help, please?
I purchased a copy of “The Complete English Poems” by John Donne as an e-book, I downloaded the e-book successfully, as well as the new Digital Editions software and transferred the e-book to my Sony Reader. However when I try to use the book it is slow opening up and very slow moving between sections, or navigating between the poem and the notes on the poems, typically between three and five minutes. In practice this means that if I wish to consult a note on a poem it can take five minutes to move from the poem to the note then another five minutes to navigate back, giving a time of ten minutes to consult a note. This is not really feasible.
I have had no problem downloading and reading other books, from Waterstones bought after the John Donne.
I have tried deleting and re-loading the John Donne, as well as resetting the reader to no avail.
I contacted Sony support who says that as my other e-books from Waterstones and other sources work perfectly, then the fault lies with “The Complete English Poems” and not the Sony reader.
Please note that I had a similar problem with a Waterstones edition of “the King James Version of The Holy Bible. “ This problem was never resolved.

There is your problem right there!!!
CleanMyMac is complete and total paid ""garbageware"!!!!
You may have irreparably damaged/corrupted and/or deleted important/needed system and  OS X operational files using CleanMyMac.
You can try and use this uninstaller to completely uninstall CleanMyMac, but the damage to your system may have already happened and has been done
since you readily admit to using this garbageware regularly on your Mac.
Here is the proper way to uninstall both CleanMyMac and CleanMyMac2.
    http://macpaw.com/support/cleanmymac-classic/knowledgebase/how-to-uninstall-clea nmymac-classic
    http://macpaw.com/support/cleanmymac/knowledgebase/how-to-uninstall-cleanmymac-2
Make sure which version of CleanMyMac you are using and pick the correct uninstaller.
Do you run any other so-called hard drive "maintenance" or "cleaning" apps or any type of commercial antivirus softwares?
If you do, you need to search the web to find out how to correctly and properly uninstall these types of apps.
You now may need to get yourself another external hard drive, purchase and use a data cloning app, such as CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper to create a exact bootable clone of your Mac's internal hard drive to a new external hard drive.
Then erase and reformat your boot drive and do a complete, clean reinstall of you OS X system, system and security updates as well as  a complete reinstall of all of your applications and updates.
Let this be a very important lesson to you!
Apps like MacKeeper or any other maintenance apps like CleanMyMac 1 or 2, TuneUpMyMac, MacCleanse or anything like these apps, installed on your Mac, while they appear to be helpful, can do too good a job of data "cleanup" causing the potential to do serious data corruption or data deletion and render a perfectly running OS completely dead and useless leaving you with a frozen, non-functional Mac.
Plus, these type of apps aren't really necessary OR needed. They really aren't.
There are manual methods to clear off unnecessary data off of your Mac that are safer and you have complete control over your Mac and not just leave a piece of auto cleaning software in charge of clearing off data off of your Mac. Their potential of causing OS X issues outweighs the implied good and benefits these types of hard drive or memory "cleaning" apps are written to do.
These types of  system 'cleaning" apps are very poorly written and are really a scam to rob newbie and novice Mac users of their hard earned cash for a poorly written maintenance program that will do much more harm to a perfectly normal running OS X system than the good that the app developers purport these types of apps will do.
Plus, the software companies that write these apps make it hard to easily uninstall these apps if something DOES go wrong and these apps work in a way where you have no recovery or revert function to return your Mac back to its former, working state in the event something does go wrong.
It is best to never, EVER download and install these types of apps.
The risk to your system and important data is too great a risk!
Here is a proper and manual methodology to "cleaning" data off of your Mac.
Here are some general tips to keep your Mac's hard drive trim and slim as possible
You should never, EVER let a conputer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your Mac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto or Aperture, both have its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you are an iMovie user, iMovie has its own individual Trash location that needs to be emptied, too!
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your other Mailboxes and other Mail categories to see If there is other mail you can archive and/or delete.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
To find other large files, download an app called Omni Disk Sweeper.
    http://www.omnigroup.com/more
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/downloadonyx.php
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.

oh the part of it not being in CC so you have to download it yourself. that was dumb. i fear that maybe adobe is just phasing out disc authoring tools, but then the options for other tools are failry limited, and extremely expensive. good luck getting a Scenarist license   on a freelance budget

i need to deactivate Premire Elements to reinstall on second computer.... don't see where the deactive tab is

    danschnarr
What version of Premiere Elements do you have and on what computer operating system is it running.
Typically, for more recent versions, you would go to the opened project and Help Menu/Deactivate. Close out of the project. And, then you would uninstall via the classical Control Panel route.
You might also find a deactivate option to check in the course of the uninstall. But I would make sure to do the one in the opened project nonetheless as well as any deactivate in the uninstall dialogs.
Please let us know if the above answered your question.
You are allowed the same purchased serial number on two of your computers. So, I would ask, are you talking about a second computer here or a third?

If you do not like Apple's Safari web browser, download, install and try Mozilla FireFox, instead.
The current, up-to-date version of FireFox is fully compatible with OS X and is regularly updated by the great developers of the Mozilla group.

You have too many and duplicate user login/startup items.
    Add or remove automatic items
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
Select your user account, then click Login Items.
    Do one of the following:
Click Add below the list on the right, select an app, document, folder, or disk, then click Add.
If you don’t want an item’s windows to be visible after login, select Hide. (Hide does not apply to servers, which always appear in the Finder after login.)
Select the name of the item you want to prevent from opening automatically, then click Delete below the list on the right.

  • How to uninstall OS 9 without deleting Classic running Tiger?

OS 9 has become unusable, but it works fine in Classic Mode. I tried doing a reinstall and doing a clean install. I thought it would remove the old OS 9 and reinstall a new version. Instead it created a preveous folder of OS 9 and reinstalled another corupted version of OS 9! How do I uninstall OS 9 without deleting Classic running Tiger? Then I want to do another fresh install of OS 9. How is this done?

    Hi, basicaly tou can't.

  • How to properly uninstall Classic?

I searched & came up w/ a couple threads that say to just drag the OS9 System folder to the trash & reboot, but when I try to do this I get an error message saying it's not possible because it's "required by the system". Also, ppl were saying to CMD+click & drag the Classic icon off the menu bar, but I don't see it anywhere to begin w/...... This whole process seems really sketchy, is there a more legit way to do this? There's no actual "uninstall"? I just needed to run one OS9 program for a short amount of time on my G5 & don't anymore so i'd like to get rid of it & free up some space...

Open the Classic preference pane in System Preferences and be sure you have Classic turned off.
Open the System Folder and drag the Finder and System file to the Trash. Restart the computer. After the restart drag the System Folder folder, Applications (Mac OS 9) folder, and Documentation folder to the Trash. Empty the Trash.

Assuming you have windows, try uninstalling iTunes and all of its components as by following this guide exactly: Windows XP or Windows Vista/7, then reinstall iTunes.  You must follow this guide exactly or it will not be successful.  Note: uninstalling iTunes will only remove the application; it will not touch your iTunes library or data.

  • How do you uninstall applications in OS X specifically classic (os 9)

how do you uninstall applications in OS X specifically classic (os 9)

Do you mean you want to remove Classic (OS 9)?
If so, there's not much to it. First, be sure you don't need, or plan to use any OS 9 or earlier applications. You'll need Classic to run them if you do. Second, back up any files created with those older apps if you need to.
Once you're ready, delete the following folders:
System Folder (NOT System. That's the OS X system folder.)
Applications (Mac OS 9) (NOT Applications. Those are the OS X apps.)
If OS X complains that it can't empty the trash because "items are in use", restart and you should then be able to empty the trash.

  • How do I Uninstall Classic?

I originally installed classic on my powerbook g4 to use a couple old applications. However, I no longer use these applications so I would like to uninstall classic. I've looked in Apple support/help and on the internet and I cannot find out how to uninstall it! Any insight?

Hi, a mouse. Trash the two "Applications (OS 9)" folders and the "System Folder (from old Mac)". Don't worry about the rest — I would guess they're inconsequentially small (you can check on that) and will do nothing in the absence of the System Folder, but I'm not 100% sure it's safe to trash them. If they are inside any of OS X's own folders, I'd definitely leave them there.
The total amount of space you save by disposing of the main OS 9-related folders will probably be only 1GB or less, so in the grand scheme of things, what you delete won't make a lot of difference — unless you trash something that OS X needs. So delete the main items and leave the rest, until you hear from someone more knowledgeable than I am that it's OK to trash them too.

  • Uninstall Classic

Is there any way to uninstall Classic (OS9.2) without having to archive and install or erase and install ?
    Thanks for any information.
    Irene

Thanks for replying to my post, Duane and Sherman.
I tried what you both said and found that it is impossible to trash the System Folder without first trashing its contents and restarting, as you pointed out Sherman.
I succeeded in uninstalling everything, but forgot to uncheck “Start Classic when you login” in the Classic pref pane. This meant that every time I restarted I got the message, OS9 is not installed, so you can’t use Classic. Finally figured out what was going on.
My original intention was to do a clean install of OS9 after uninstalling it. I was having various problems with Classic applications which I couldn’t resolve. However, this has not worked out very well.
When I tried to reinstall it from Install disk2, I got the message that there was nothing to install. I assumed this meant that there was something on my HD which said that OS9 was already installed. I trashed the CPUMacOS9Z.pkg in Receipts and was able to install again.
But all is not well. OS9 seems to be corrupted in various ways. Many Extensions have wrong icons and are listed as “Color Sync Document Extension”. Extension Manager keeps telling me it needs to update info, although I haven’t changed anything. This results in having the same extension in both enabled and disabled folders at the same time.
I was able to fix the “kind “ problem and some icons by resetting launch services, but after using Classic applications everything reverts back. My original problem, not being able to download attachments with ClarisEmailer, has not been resolved, even with a clean install of CE.
So I think I’m going to have to do an archive and install after all. What I tried to do, a clean install of OS9, seems not to have worked and I wouldn’t recommend this to anybody.
Thanks again for your help to uninstall Classic.
    Irene
