Uninstalling Distiller

I recently setup a MAC G5 (OS-10.4.11) with previously installed CS 4 Suite. This machine had Acrobat 7,8 and 9 on it as I used it for troubleshooting.  We ended up deleting every version of Acrobat to get another copy of 8 on it. I was able to get PitStop installed and registered for 8 (which was a miracle in itself). The problem is that Distiller 8 crashes and has from the getgo. I copied Distiller 7 over and it crashes as well. I took the PS file to Distiller 9 on a different machine and it processed...yay...
I copied over Distiller 9 to the machine in question to see if it would work. It wanted me to register, so IT gave me a random # and it worked on there...yay again...
My dilemma is that I need to uninstall Distiller 9 and reinstall using the current CS4 serial # or get the software to ask for a serial #. I have deleted every file affiliated with Distiller (7,8,9) known to man and Distiller 9 just opens...
Is there a workaround or do I need to uninstall CS4 and reinstall?
Thanks in advance,
Nd

I will try there as well. It just seems to me that I'm probably not the only person who has had this problem while in Lightroom. To me, it sounds like Lightroom has a bug but like you said, could be Acrobat as well.

On Mac OS X 10.8.3 Distiller X Pro will not save the watched folders setting.  I can set the watched folders and it will process the files but when I close Distiller the watched folders are gone when I reopen it.

I just uninstalled Distiller 9 Pro on my computer and now I can save the watched folder list and the entire set of settings files load when starting Distiller X.  The other computer I'm having this problem on is a new installation and has Distiller X Pro only.  It must be a permissions issue.

  • Adobe Pagemaker installation

I can't install Adobe Acrobat Distiller 6, needed by Adobe Pagemaker 7 to export pagemaker documents as pdfs, because I have a later version of Distiller, Adobe Acrobat Distiller IX. When I try to install I get the message "Setup has detected that you already have a more functional product installed. Setup will now terminate." When I try to export a pagemaker document to pdf, pagemaker hangs. Do I need to uninstall Distiller IX or is there another solution?

PM was killed off almost ten years ago, and was never intended for any 64bit environment. Use your version of PM with a contemporary OS.
However, congrats on managing to install it as the installer often has a hissy fit on 64 bit systems.
If it is running, forget Export… AdobePDF… (which works best with Distiller 5 and Win2K http://bigjohnd.org.uk/PageMakerExportPDF/index.htm ). Your least worst bet is the AdobePDF printer.
But you're on your own here. Disaster awaits.
Remember to keep a copy of your PM file before you attempt any heroics. And look to moving on to InDesign aka PM Ver 13.

  • 64-Bit Windows 7 & Postscript I Fonts

Hello.  New machine.  64-bit Win7 with CS5 installed.  Attempting to install some older PS 1 fonts.
Have all necessary elements of each set (both PFM/PFB).
Get 'does not appear to be a valid font' error when attempting to install via Windows7.  I am the 'administrator' of the machine.
I have also copied entire folders into ID5 fonts folder as well (Program Files (x86)/Adobe/Adobe InDesign CS5/ Fonts)
    Still nothing.
    Stumped.
Any assistance or insight/next steps would be appreciated.

You have a number of questions here. I'll try to answer them as best as possible.
    (1)     Do not uninstall any data files or directories associated with data files generated by Adobe applications. They may be necessary or desirable when you load your new software.
    (2)     Given the fundamental incompatibility of CS2 with Windows 7 64-bit, I would most strongly recommend uninstalling all CS2 programs from your system prior to installing any CS5. That includes all the Acrobat 7 Pro software (which is documented as highly incompatible with Windows 7 64-bit) including Distiller and Designer. Uninstalling Acrobat 7 Pro should simultaneously uninstall Distiller and Designer. Adobe Bridge was installed by CS2. Uninstalling all CS2 will uninstall Adobe Bridge.
    (4)     Uninstall Adobe Reader X.
    (5)     Reboot.
    (6)     When you install CS5 Design Premium, it will install Acrobat 9 Pro. Do not attempt install Reader X. You don't need it if you have Acrobat 9 Pro.

  • Distiller 5.0 uninstalled

    Hello:
In the process of upgrading to Framemaker 8 and Acrobat 9, my Distiller 5.0 application, unbeknownst to me, was uninstalled. I did not see any prompts related to this de-install. Anyone know what happened? And where can I get Distiller now?

  • How to get Distiller to display as a printer in my programs

Hi there, I recently re-installed and re-activated Creative Suite 3 on my Windows 8 computer, but Distiller does not display as a printer option in any of my programs. I already uninstalled and re-installed the bunch. Still no use. How do I fix this? Any suggestions?

    Hi Sariensteyn,
This version of suite wasn't tested with windows 8.
I would suggest to upgrade to the latest version and that should help.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.1.0 distiller ICC profile error asks for reinstall

I have Windows XP professional, SP3.
My Systems Administrator recently upgraded my Adobe Acrobat Pro 8 to 9.1.0 and since then I keep getting an error that says: Distiller cannot find its standard ICC profiles. Please reinstall Adobe Acrobat to correct this problem.
    This error happens when:
    1. I print to Adobe from a web page (IE 7.0.5730.11 or Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.20)
    2. I try to print to any printer from certain websites, such as the usps.com, where I print all our postage labels from.
    3. Occasionally when I start up the PC.
Sometimes I get the error but it still pdfs the page. Usually, though, it hangs and then Acrobat and the web browser close.
I seem to be able to pdf MS Office 2007 items (Word, Excel) and my Filemaker Pro Advanced 10 records. I guess it's when I'm "printing" to Adobe as opposed to "saving as pdf" that I have this problem.
Acrobat 8 worked fine. My Sys Admin has reinstalled the upgrade twice (after trying a repair which didn't work) to no avail. He can't find any documentation about this error at Adobe, so he's going to uninstall it and switch me back to Adobe 8.
I do all of the pdf'ing of our deliverable documents at my company and I would like to have the latest edition of Acrobat. If anyone knows of anything I can do, please let me know.
    Thanks!
    Stephie

Adobe Tech support was most helpful on this.  First download the updated
    Distiller ICC profile files at:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=4075&fileID= 3790
Unzip the file and copy only the *.icc files (without regard to the subfolders that they are in - in other words, take the files out of each of the subfolders) to the followng folder in Windows 7:
    c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\color
These new files will probably overwrite some old ones.
This solved the problem for me.
This is actually the best solution though I found that instead of copying all the .icc files to the windows\sys...  folder, all you need to do is copy the 3 Video files from the RGB folder (VideoHD.icc, VideoNTSC.icc, and VideoPAL.icc).  Once you add these three files to  c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\color  you will be good to go.
It seems that this was an error on the part of Adobe in that there is no reason to include Video files for printing.  Nevertheless, the distiller will look for these and return the ICC profile error message if those files are not present.

  • Acrobat 9 standard can't make pdf and can't uninstall or reinstall

952 update killed the pdf printer. Gone. Adobe guy in India couldn't fix it by taking over my computer. He deleted something in printers and faxes and then I got the put in the windows cd for files message. I did a system restore and the PDF printer came back, but now nothing works. Can't uninstall it either in windows or with uninstall programs downloaded from web. In Windows I get the message "This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows installer package." Can't reinstall it with the cd either. Same message. Will have to try to call India Monday morning. (Gee, I work Saturday, why can't they.) I don't have a good feelling about this.
Meanwhile, I downloaded PrimoPDF for free and it works a charm. Maybe I'll stick with that. Can't beat the price.

India lady said she would "escalate" and someone would call me withing 24 hours. Nobody called. Too bad, twist slowly in the wind seems to be Adobe's message. I own a jewelry store and I do whatever it takes to take care of my customers. Meanwhile, I paid for their product which was working fine until their update and now it doesn't. Not only no pdf printer, but distiller won't even open. Hangs up and I have to CTRL ALT DEL to shut it down. Manual PDF printer install asks for i386, a windows folder. I have it. It lives in Windows>driver cache but the install doesn't see it. Is there no one at Adobe with the knowledge to fix this? Will Adobe do whatever it takes? If they don't, I will do whatever it takes to get them to do whatever it takes. Grrrr.

  • Can't access Distiller 9.0 in Virtual XP with Pagemaker 7.0.1

I have had to revert briefly to using Pagemaker 7.0.1 to help out my mom who is still in the dark ages... anyhow, I have Pagemaker loaded in Win 7 Virtual XP because it crashes in the main O/S. I have also loaded Acrobat 9.0 from my CS5 inot XP BUT while I can access it from other programs installed in XP, Pagemaker will not. If I print to PDF, for some reason Pagemaker points to the same printer window as if I export to PDF. Worse still, no matter how I set things up, Distiller converts all greyscale to CMYK and downsamples my images by 50%. I have tried removing  the Print folder from the EXTRAS folder, I have removed the ExpPDF plugin, hoping that by doing so I would force Pagemaker to stop accessing Distiller 3.-whatever-it-is and go to 9.0. but no luck. I tried removing the PPD4 folder from RSRC\UKENGLSH but that didn't work either.
What I am thinking is that there is a dll that points to the PPD4 folder in the RSRC\UKENGLSH folder and that's why I can't get Pagemaker to just print to my Acrobat 9.0 printer driver.
Any ideas if this can be fixed and how?
    Regards,
    Michelle

I finally found a solution: I had to uninstall both Acrobat and Pagemaker and reinstall them both but Acrobat first.
But that has only solved one problem.
Will post another thread with the other problem.

  • Distiller error when trying to save book as pdf

I haven't used FrameMaker since about version 5 or 6, but recently I have picked up a few client jobs requiring RoboHelp and FrameMaker. I tearfully parted with the funds for TS 4, crossing my fingers that the investment would pay itself off. I have a client now with FrameMaker 10 files that I am working on in FM 11. When I try to save the book as a pdf from the File menu, I get this error:
How do I fix this? Please don't tell me I need to buy Acrobat to make this work...you don't want to make an old woman cry.

    > I haven't used FrameMaker since about version 5 or 6 ...
    Was it still installed?
Was a contemporary version of Distiller still installed?
That old Distiller is incompatible with FM10 & 11.
You might need to uninstall it and re-install TCS4.
As a quick fix, you might try printing to .ps and Distilling separately.
I don't have FM10 or 11, so the above represents more than I know.

I haven't moved up to OSX 10.5 yet, but I was wondering if you can do what I do in 10.4
In the Print Dialog window in the bottom left is a PDF button. Click on that and you have the option "Save PDF as Postscript". And then drop your postscript file onto Distiller.

  • What to uninstall and what to keep

I have been an Adobe/Macromedia user for a very long time and I seem to have accumulated a lot of versions of some of the same software on my computer and I need to clean things up and need some help in determining what to uninstall that will not affect the performance of what I currently use.  If anyone out there could spend the time to look over my mess and assist me with this I would be extremely grateful.   What you see below I copied word for word from My Programs List and am using Windows XP Professional.  If I have placed a question mark next to an item it is because I am not sure if I still use it but I do not knowingly ever choose it from the list.  I did not uninstall older software prior to this for fear that I would not e able to gain access to pages I created in the older software using the new version.
    What I have:
    Macromedia Folder:
    Extension Manager?
    Freehand MXa no longer use
    Fireworks 8 no longer use
    Dreamweaver 8 no longer use
    Flash 8 no longer use
    Flash Video Enhancer 8 ?
    Player 8 ?
    FlashPaper 2 ?
    Homesite + ?
    Adobe Folder
    ExtendedScript Toolkit ?
    Adobe Web Standard CS3 Folder
    Bridge CS3 do not use
    Contribute CS3 use
    Device Central CS3 ?
    Dreamweaver CS3 use
    Extension Manager CS3 ?
    Fireworks CS3 use
Flash CS3 Professional use CS3 now
    Flash  CS3 Video Enhancer ?
Adobe Programs listed by themselves not in folder but in Programs List:
    Acrobat Distiller 7 use
    Acrobat Professional 7 use
Adobe Bridge CS2 and CS3 this is really the major issue, can I delete Bridge CS2 without loosing functionality of other CS2      products I still use?
    Designer 7 use
    Extended Script Toolkit 2 ?
Go Live CS2 rarely but sometimes use
    Illustrator CS2 use
    Image Ready CS2 use
    InDesign CS2 use
    Photoshop CS2 use a lot
    Stock Photos do not use
Stock Photos CS3 so not use
    Flash CS3 use
    Contribute CS3 use
    Dreamweaver CS3 use
My issue is what can I safely uninstall without loosing any functionality of the programs I do still use/  Bridge is the major issue.  It takes up so much space and performance I want to uninstall both CS2 and 3 because I never use it but will I loose any functionality of the other programs in the creative
suite of which it is a part?
Anyone who would take the time to assist me I would be extremely grateful.
    Thank you,
    Jennifer

Bridge takes up next to no space at all. Leave it alone. As for the rest, only you know what you use and what you need.

  • Distiller 8.1.3 Crashes on Startup, and Other Pro8 Woes

I bought Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 a couple years ago, and Distiller 8.1.3 has never worked.  I have a Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5, currently running 10.4.11.  Whenever I double-click Distiller, it doesn't even get as far as an opening screen before it crashes.  All it tells me is:
    The application Distiller quit unexpectedly.
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
Meanwhile, I've never been able to create a PDF using the print function.  I make the settings, it goes through the motions, an icon of a laser printer or something appears down on the toolbar, and no file is created.
What I really need this for is to create a PDF of my book interiors from Quark XPress 7 for the print-on-demand printer.  Formerly, they've been able to work with exported PDFs, but now they claim they absolutely need it done with Distiller.
    Any suggestions?

    Try the Following:
Go to Printer Setup Utility and remove AdobePDF from Printer list.
Choose either Acrobat or Reader from from help menu choose repair installation.
    Click on AdobePDF.
Now try to create a PDF.
Open Disk Utilities and Try repair permissions.
since your using X.4 look for and download AppleJack.
Restart in SingleUser Mode (Command -S) and when B&W screen finishes loading Text info and there is a Blinking cursor.
At that point Type applejack.go through all the procedures do items 3 & four both for system and for each user. When finished type return then choose restart.
If that doesn't work you may have a problem with Print driver. It not be up to date.
Go to Printer's website and download the latest version.
Next go to Printer Setup and remove you printer from the printer list.
Next open and install the New Driver (even if exactly the same version as previous).
Now try to create a PDF either by Apple's print menu PDF button. Or by choosing AdobePDF in the print menu.
    If that don't work try:
Gather up your Acrobat install Disk and download from Adobe Support > Udates , all items related to Acrobat 8.
Now open Acrobat Director (Folder) and choose uninstall.
Next from finder choose file menu > Find. When opens up type in first Acrobat and remove all items associated with Acrobat 8 to trash and empty. Make sure they are only related to acrobat.
Next Type Adobe and repeat. DO NOT REMOVE YOUR PDF'S.
Now run Disk Utility and repair permissions.
Install install Acrobat and  open. Close the run each updater in turn.
Now try to create a PDF. If none of this works then you might have some type of extension, control panel, or other item installed in your system interfering. Most ly you don't and one of the bove methods will get you running.
