what is the precise text of that message Faith? (in particular, give the full text of any registry key it's citing.)
sometimes it's easiest to send us a screenshot of the error message box. there's instructions on how to do that in the following user tip:

Thank you so much for your response. Whew that took a good 2 hours. I finally got it fixed. After the failed attempts to uninstall quicktime I found this:
*1. Go to C:\Program Files, then delete the entire QuickTime folder.*
*2. Click Start - Find/Search - All Files And Folders, select the hard drive ( C: ) to look in, type in QuickTime, then click Find/Search. when the list of files appear, right-click on and delete all the ones that you confirm are associated with QuickTime.*

  • Problems Uninstalling Quicktime

For some reason, my computer will not allow me to uninstall Quicktime. I've completed the standard uninstallation procedures. I've even tried accessing the file through the C:drive and deleting it under Program Files and I was still unsuccessful. I got the Error 0x80070091. And the Uninstaller Error# was 2330 It also said the directory was not empty. I have no idea what to do at this point... Could someone please help me?

+And the Uninstaller Error# was 2330 It also said the directory was not empty.+
A 2330 on XP typically indicates file or folder damage on a PC. So, let's see if that holds true for Vista as well.
Go "Start > Computer". Right-click on "Local Disk C:" and select "properties". Click the "Tools" tab.
Click the "Check now" button in the "Error correction" section.
    Does that find/repair any damage?
If so, are you able to delete that directory and complete a QuickTime uninstall?

  • Windows Vista ULT and Quicktime problem

I apologize if this has been posted already, I did a search and found nothing so here goes...
I just installed Windows Vista Ultimate and wanted to get iTunes and Quicktime running as soon as I could. I installed the latest version found on apple's website but every time I try to start Quicktime up, it does absolutely nothing at all. I try to click on a quicktime file and it does nothing as well. Even stranger, I try to uninstall quicktime and it hangs for a sec and then pretends I never asked it to do anything.
iTunes crashes every time I try to run it but it WILL uninstall.
Anyone know a fix to any of this?

Right, I read that article and did what they asked, but it didn't work and doesn't address the problem I have now.
According to the info Apple provided on that article, it implies that iTunes and Quicktime will work with Vista. I can wait for an update if thats the case, I just want to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong.

  • "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close." Quicktime problem!

I'm having a MaJoR problem with Quicktime and iTunes, but i think the main problem is Quicktime since iTunes runs off of it. I've never been able to install Quicktime, and i recently bought an iPod, and when i try to install Quicktime and iTunes the download goes great, but as soon as i try to open either one i get the error "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." i've tried about 7 or 8 times now, using the Apple help page too. Please let me know if u have any idea how to fix this.

Here's what worked for other users; perhaps it will work for you (I've never had this problem so I can't say for sure):
    1) Uninstall QuickTime from the Add/Remove Programs control panel. If you have difficulties, Microsoft's Installer Cleanup Utility, as you mention, may help.
    2) Clean up the Windows registry with http://www.ccleaner.com/ (freeware)
    3) Restart your system.
    4) Delete the QuickTime folder
    5) Reinstall QT ( you can get QT separately here.
    Good luck.

  • Can't get iTunes to open, Can't uninstall QuickTime. Why?

When I try to open QuickTime I get "Error -2095, make sure QuickTime is properly installed." Vers 6.5.0.48
When I try to open iTunes "encountered a problem and needs to close." Vers 7.0.2.16
I read forum and advice was to uninstall iTunes, which I was able to do successfully.
Then I tried to uninstall QuickTime and got: C:\windows\system32\QUICKT~1\UNINS~1.log
    Exception C:\windows\system32\shell32.dll\control_rundll
I went to windows explorer and found system32\QuickTime and the uninstall file is there but system does not think it is there.
I am in a quandry. I love my ipod nano, 2gb, which I bought a few days ago, but I sure wish I had read these forum postings before buying. I am discouraged, disheartened, disappointed.
I have 363 songs on my ipod now and would love to move new songs to ipod, but can't get anything to work.
Any help out there? Is there anyone from Apple who can help? hello? Is there a phone number for Apple tech support?
Thanks for any help on this issue.

    Check out this Apple help:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
It sounds as though you need the bit towards the bottom of that page called:
Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer
You can get the Windows Installer Cleanup utility here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
BTW iTunes cannot work if Quicktime doesn't work.

  • ITunes/Quicktime Problem

I'll start by saying my problem is similar to this one: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=498798 with a few differences.
I'm running Windows XP Pro. After updating to the lastest version of iTunes, I can no longer open it. Whenever I try I get that Windows Send/Don't Send error. Quicktime won't open either but I get no error message.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. I've tried reinstalling the standalone version of Quicktime, but after it finishes and I click 'Finish', I get this error message:
    Error Number: 0x80040707
Description: DLL function call crashed: QTInstallCode.QuickTimePostInstallProc
    Setup will now terminate.
If I try to uninstall Quicktime by going through the start menu a 'Setup is preparing to uninstall' box appears, loads about half way, then closes and nothing else happens. No error message. Quicktime doesn't even appear in my Add/Remove programs list.
I've also tried deleting the iTunes configuration file suggestion from Apple.
I've been working on this for a while now with no success. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    hi rbert!
    Katrina's onto it.
the problem is a conflict on x64 versions of Windows (and at least some 32-bit versions of Server 2003) between your QuickTime Player and Windows Update KB908531.

  • ITunes will not launch - can't uninstall Quicktime

I'm really, really annoyed with iTunes.
Rebuilt computer and installed iTunes 7 on a fresh config after antivirus software and firewall were installed. Had sound problems but managed to fix them.
Rebooted and tried to open up iTunes - only to get an error, rebooted again, same thing. Tried opening Quicktime - same. Tried Quicktime settings from control panel - a Fatal error has occured.
Uninstalled iTunes, with an eye to trying to install it again. That worked, but when I tried to uninstall Quicktime it got half way, then "A fatal error has occured". Tried downloading and installing Quicktime without iTunes - that wouldn't even run.
Tried iTunes install anyway, but got the same problems as before. Tried v.6.5 - but that claimed the freshly downloaded file from Apple was corrupt.
I now cannot uninstall or use Quicktime, cannot use iTunes or update my iPods and am really fed up with Apple over this shoddy update.
I've searched through the support pages, but cannot find a fix for this problem.
I'd be happy to try any fixes that might be around, especially if it means I can get v.6.5 on my machine (which worked fine!)
For now, I'm going to be searching out another player for my audio and video.
    Most dissapointed.

Tried opening Quicktime - same. Tried Quicktime settings from control panel - a Fatal error has occured.
that corresponds to a "standalone 1603" error message on earlier versions of the itunes and quicktime installers.
    let's try this first.
    here's what we'll try first.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try a careful standalone QT 7.1.3 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1.3 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1.3 Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention itunes
if that install goes through okay, reboot the PC and try another itunes install. does that go through okay this time?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • Can't upgrade iTunes... can't uninstall QuickTime

    Help!!
I've missed a couple of upgrades to iTunes, waiting to investigate the problem - error 1322, a portion of the path exceeds the maximum length allowed by the system.
Now I think I've isolated it. If I try and uninstall Quicktime (version 7.1) I get the same problem.
So I think uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime will help. But how do I do that - I can't get past the error.
Any experienced insights will be welcomed!
    Thank you
      Windows XP

I just solved a similar problem by using "Windows Install Clean Up" to completely remove my old version of Quicktime. Be very careful using this program, since it removes programs from the Window's registry. You can download it from Microsoft's web site.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Be sure to carefully read all the instructions on the webpage before using the program.
Run the "Windows Install Clean Up" program.
Select Quicktime and remove it. Don't select anything else!
After this, try updating iTunes. I hope it works for you.

  • Can't install iTunes 6.0.2.23 and can't uninstall QuickTime

help!!! i can't uninstall quicktime 7.0.2 (tried from control panel), which was included in my pc when i bought it, in order to install the newest version of itunes/quicktime. i would try lorraine's fix but can't even manually uninstall qt. got an error message "cannot delet file: cannot read from source file or disk". old version of itunes is gone, couldn't reinstall qt 7.0.2 (to try & repair), and remove apple itunes from NIS. i'd be grateful for any help.

HELP!!! this is driving me crazy...does anybody know how to fix this problem. how do i uninstall old version of QT in order to upgrade to the stand alone QuickTime and newest version of iTunes? I've already tried to manually delete the QT files and folders but got an error message. This totally *****! Both Apple & Windows support are pointing to each other for fixes.

  • QuickTime Problem

Hi, I have had problems with QuickTime. It has usurped the right top play any and all media files on my computer, even though I have turned off all of the options for it. As a result, I can't view ANY media on the web that Quicktime does not recognize. I uninstalled QuickTime, and it solved my problem, but then I couldn't use iTunes.
I am REALLY frustrated, and at a loss as to what to do.
    Please help.

Just wondering. I did send you the message on how I got mine to work or you can look through the notes that were sent too. That is where I got the answer.

  • Trouble uninstalling quicktime

im trying to uninstall quicktime b/c my iTunes is messed up (i have to uninstall both iTunes and quicktime in order to fix the problem, according to other wall posts). When i try and uninstall this message comes up:
    Unhandled Exception
    error number: 0x80040707
description: DLL function call crashed: QTInstallCode.QuickTimeUnInstallProc
    Setup will now terminate.
    Please help!

I have exactly the same problem, i'm running a 32-bit version of Windows
right you are, iddymonkey ... if your 0x80040707 is referencing QTInstallCode.QuickTimeUnInstallProc (there's different possible texts you can get with different causes and potential treatments), let's proceed with the 32-bit procedures for that one.
    here's what we'll try first:
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next use the QuickTime component of the complete uninstall instructions in the following document as a guide to a manual removal of leftover QuickTime program files and folders.
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows
once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try a careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1 Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention itunes 6
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • Uninstalling quicktime (help please)

I'm going through the same problems as everyone else, but it won't uninstall for me at all. I keep going into uninstall programs and it goes through the process, but it's still on my computer. • I cannot uninstall Quicktime

Ok, so my iTunes was not working properly, so I decided to uninstall everything. I uninstalled iTunes just fine, but am having a really hard time uninstalling Quicktime. Everytime I try to uninstall the program, it will tell me that an error occured and the task cannot be completed. I tried going to the control panel, and this didn't work, and I tried just reinstalling and this doesn't work either. My quicktime isn't working and I can't get it off my computer. Any suggestions would be so much appreciated...I'm going on vactaion in three weeks and I'd love to have my iTunes up and running so I can update my iPod for my trip.
    Thanks
    JD

Ok, so thank you for your suggestion! I tried using the clean up Utility and it did allow me to uninstall the program, which is great! Now, on to the next issue. I tried reinstalling both quicktime and iTunes. It finally allowed me to reinstall Quicktime without any problems, but as soon as it was installed I went to run it and a Window's box came up that told me that the program encountered an error and needs to close. The same thing happens obviously when I try to open iTunes. So, since the error was immediate after installing the program, I'm guessing there is a glitch in the actual program. SO......I am wondering if maybe an older version of Quicktime may be the solution. Any suggestions? I've had older versions of Quicktime on this computer before and they ran just fine, so I wonder if installing an older version (where do I find one?) would solve the problem
    Ok, thanks in advance

  • Can't uninstall QuickTime or open iTunes, thanks 2 Ace Mega Codec Pack???

Everything was fine, updated my 60gb iPod everyday and played iTunes daily. (Happy Days) Until one fine day, i decided to download Ace Mega Codec Pack.(Sad Days) It all starts here... Ever since then I have not been able to open my precious iTunes, Getting this message: *ITunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.*
So here's what I’ve tried, Possibly making matters worse, I uninstalled Ace Mega Codec pack immediately and when prompted that some files I was removing was shared I said, Whatever and deleted them anyways in hope iTunes would just work after uninstalling! What a mess.
I then tried iTunes again with no joy, So I uninstalled iTunes, reinstalled and still the same message: *ITunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.*
I then read on a thread somewhere that, if I reinstall QuickTime, it should work.
And when trying to uninstall QuickTime I get this (+Add or remove programs+) message: *Fatal error during installation*. with no error code.
I just don’t know what to do, I’m on the verge of reinstalling Windows! (I bet things like this don’t happen on a Mac.)!!
Well I would really appreciate any help or advice anyone could give me,
    Thanks a million,
    Phill, (Stressed in Dublin, Ire.)

Ok, I actually fixed this cannot delete old Quicktime files based on Apple's guidance on support. I had done this step yesterday, and must have missed a few files. This is going into the System32 folder through my computer. I deleted the Itunes, Ipod and Quicktime folders, but did not realize that I had to continue scrolling because there were these two file name were at the end, and not in a folder, so they weren't deleted the first go around. So I deleted, then reinstalled on my C drive (not the default Program Files) as someone else here had instructed, and Quicktime is now working! Now, I will attempt ITunes....wish me luck!
Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\system32\ folder.
