Universal export for iPhoto

Hi all!
Since I am switching to Lightroom I was looking for universal way to export my photos from iPhoto. It turns out something as simple as exporting albums to folders with album names doesn't exist (or I couldn't find it). Then I found GREAT UNIVERSAL exporter!
http://www.n8gray.org/code/scriptexport
You type in your script actions (unix command line knowledge required).
For example to export album to folder with same name as album:
Preflight: mkdir ~/Desktop/NEW/"$iPAlbumName"
Per-Item: cp "$iPImageSourcePath" ~/Desktop/NEW/"$iPAlbumName"
And volia
You can easy script what you wish...FTP, SSH, format conversion.....
Thank you Nathaniel!

Unfortunately that requires more than what most of us are knowledgeable in.

  • How do I remove the Facebook Exporter for iPhoto?

    Hello,
I have recently installed v1.0.8 of Facebook Exporter for iPhoto, and it hangs on the first picture I attempt to upload. It is unusable. I had found the previous version 1.0.6 which worked great and downloaded that, and subsequently attempted to install it. However, the installer errors out stating that there is already a previous version installed. The v1.0.6 and v1.0.8 installers, do not have an uninstall feature either. Direct support for this package is impossible from the developer.
I'm asking if anyone could lay out exactly what I need to remove in order that I can proceed with downgrading to the v1.0.6 once again. I have asked in other forums(not here) and have had only "upgrade all your software to the latest versions and everything should work" answers, which were and are completely useless. If an upgrade is required of something, please be specific as to why.
Note that, I have already performed this function as outlined here, http://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=222897111055523, which simply describes deleting a folder in their install directory. This has not worked, meaning the removal has worked, however reinstalling the previous version envokes the error about a later version.
    Versions involved;
MacBook Pro, 2.53ghz, core 2 duo
    MacOS v10.6.8
    iPhoto '09, v8.1..2 (424)
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • Facebook exporter for iPhoto 11 problem!

I previously had installed the Facebook exporter for iPhoto and it worked fine. It always showed up as a tab in File Export. Now with Iphoto 11 the tab for facebook has disappeared. I went to the download page for it again to reinstall it and when I go through the installation process and it asks where to install I have the exclamation mark on my Mac hard drive with the following error. "Facebook exporter for iPhoto can't be installed on this disk. A newer version of this software already exists on this disk.
I went to plugins and removed it yet I still get this error on reinstallation. Why won't the exporter work anymore or install?
I like this much better than the built in one on iPhoto as it lets me caption each photo before I upload.

    I found the problem
It seems the version of facebook exporter found on the applesite is an older one.
I downloaded a newer version on versiontracker and that fixed it.
tha one I am using now is facebook exporter iphoto v 1.0.5
    cheers

  • What happened to facebook exporter for iphoto?

I keep getting an error when trying to share photos from iphoto to facebook. I have tried all the common things, but now I see that there is no longer facebook exporter for iphoto. I have had this Macbook Air since May, and was able to share photos via iphoto exporter to facebook, and now all of a sudden it is not working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had Iphoto exporter plugin installed previously and it would show up on file-export as an option. Then mysteriously it was gone as an option. I tried to download the plugin again from Cnet and when I try to install it I get and error saying "It can't be opened because of an inidentified developer my security preferences only allow installation of only apps from your Mac app store and identified developers"
How do I turn off that security so I can reinstall it again. As for why my original install disappeared I am mystified about that. Why was it there one month and then poof gone the next month?
I like that 3rd party plugin as it lets me caption all the photo's and rearrange the order and write a discription all in one application. It works better than the share button way of doing it to facebook.
Is it not compatible with Iphoto 9.4.1?

  • Is there a secret place in my mac the Facebook Exporter for iPhoto is hiding?

I recently installed Facebook Exporter for iPhoto 1.0.7 on my Mac OS X 10.6.8, with iPhoto version 7.1.5. It read the install was complete.
I tried using the program and it didn't seem to synch with Facebook (says there's a connection error). After reading about numerous problems people have encountered with this plug-in, i decided to remove it.
I've tried following the instructions to uninstall the plug-in, but I can't seem to find the file where it's supposed to be stored, in the Package Contents under iPhoto. As far as I can tell, the program did install because a Facebook option is still showing up in my iPhoto exports menu.
My computer seems to be running slow and stalling since installing the plug-in and I just want to get rid of it once and for all. Please help. Thanks

Download and run Find Any File to search for  files with "Facebook" in the file name.
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages. This will help you see where the plugin is located on your hard drive.
But for a fix reggie has the correct suggestion, contact the developers.

  • Announcement: Picasa web albums exporter finally updated for iPhoto 7

Whew, it sure took long enough!
Google's Picasa Web Albums Exporter for iPhoto is finally updated to be compatible with iPhoto 7 (iLife '08). I tested it quickly and it worked like a champ. I only see 1 new feature: an option to convert iPhoto keywords into Picasa Web Albums tags.
    Download it here:
    http://picasa.google.com/intl/enus/web/mactools.html
    - Steve -
ps, sorry if this doesn't really belong in this discussion, but I know lots of us have been waiting patiently for this update.

I want to use Picasa Web Albums to share photos with friends and let them pick out, download and print a decent resolution photo. I use the Picasa (plug in I think) / Export to upload the photos from iPhoto. It lets me pick quality to upload, but I notice that when downloaded from the web album, the highest comes in at 180dpi with a 3264px x 2448 px pixel dimension - is this sufficient for a 5 x 7 print or possibly a 8 x 10 print?
What resolution do you want to print at? Decide and multiply
    5x7 at 300 dpi = 1500x2100 needed -- at 150 dpi = 750x1050
    8x10 at 300 dpi = 2400x3000 etc
If possible I want to save bandwith and storage space by uploading at a lower resolution, the smallest they offer (when downloaded from the site) is 72dpi at 1000px x 750 px and the medium is 72 dpi at 1600 x 1200 px.
Note that dpi is meaningless for a digital file - dpi is Dots Per Inch so until you set inches (print size) dpi is just a meaningless number and can be totally ignored

  • Can't export from iphoto '11 to facebook with facebook exporter

    Help!
I've been trying to export photos from iPhoto '11 (Version 9.2.1) without success.  I am running OS X (10.6.8).  This is the error message I keep seeing, no matter which way I attempt to make a connection (through the 'Accounts' window in Preferences, or through the 'Share' tab when I select a photo to export).
Here are the following steps I have taken, without any success:
    Changed my Facebook password.
    Logged out of Facebook.
Downloaded and installed the 'Facebook Exporter for iPhoto' plugin from Facebook; alhtough this is suspect, since here's the most recent comment from Facebook on this plugin:
The home for the Facebook Exporter for iPhoto - athttp://developers.facebook.com /iphoto/ - is temporarily down, as we build out a new version of it. In the meantime, you can download the application from this profile page, using the button at the left. Happy photo sharing!

Re-booted my Mac after installing the plugin.
Verified that the plugin is actually on my hard drive.
Searched Google and Apple Support for help, but here I am...
I really don't like Facebook, so maybe this the final hint that I should just give it up...

Use Apple mail - set in the iPhoto preferences

I´d like to export my iphotos "macbook pro". Everything worked fine when I installed impression for iphoto but when I installed impression 2 now I can´t export my photos. I´ve restarted the computer but still it doesn´t work.
Please can sombody help me with that?
    Thank you

Are you running Snow Leopard or Lion?  Your info says Snow Leopard.  If it's lion then:
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
Then you can locate the folders mentioned.

  • Export in iPhoto offers a "Custom" setting for size. The default is 1000. 1000 what? Pixels, centimeters, MB's?

Export in iPhoto offers a "Custom" setting for size.
1000 is the default, but I don't know what 1000 refers to.
    Pixels, centimeters, MB's?
I want to make the photo an 1 inch x 1 inch.
Do I go up or down from the 1000?
    Thanks

    Pixels.
For a 1" x 1" photo first crop the photo square.  Then export  with Kind = Current with JPEF Quality = Maximum and Size = Full size.
Then when you go to print the photo select a 1" x 1" print size.  This will squeeze all available pixels in each dimension into the 1" dimension giving you the highest DPI resolution available from your image file.

  • Iphoto slideshow exported for iweb viewed by windows

I have been trying to publish an iphoto slideshow that I had exported as a movie for weeks. My mac people can see it, my PC family members cannot! I tried to make it small for the web, changed the filename to mp4 from mpv4, but PC people still could not see it. So I tried to put the slideshow movie in as a huge .mpeg and it disappeared. ( I had made an avi file but it looked horrible so used the equally as large but better ,mpeg)
I am getting the idea that it can only be done with imovie! Is than an authoritative step by step on iphoto 08,quicktime pro, and Iweb so I can put all these things together?

Don't use the Finder to change the file extension. Not only is it folly but it breaks the links used in your iWeb page code.
Don't use AVI. It is a dead container discontinued by its authors (Microsoft) years ago.
    Don't use MPEG-1 (1991 format).
Default exports from iPhoto to QuickTime formats use the newer H.264 video codec which requires any machine (Mac or PC) have QuickTime version 7 installed. If they can't install version 7 they can't view your file.

  • I can not export photos onto DVD. After I click export, close iPhoto, click Finder, At this point I can't find the file to burn. (copy to be used on Windows) Sorry for the lame question....new to mac

I can not export photos onto DVD. After I click export, close iPhoto, click Finder, At this point I can't find the file to burn. (copy to be used on Windows) Sorry for the lame question....new to mac

So it sounds like you are trying to burn a DVD with photos on it so the photos can be either transferred to or displayed on a Windows PC, is that correct?
For the purposes of this I am going to assume you are using iPhoto '11.
Gather the photos you want to burn to DVD in one album in iPhoto. This is not absolutely necessary but it sure makes things easier for me.
Select that album, then go to the File menu and select Export...
In the dialog that shows up, select the File Export tab. Select the setting you want to use for export. Click the Export button.
Another dialog will show up. Set the location to Desktop and click the New Folder button. Name the folder something nice and descriptive and click the Create button.
Click the OK button. Quit iPhoto as the rest of this work will be done in the Finder.
You will now have a folder on your desktop with that nice descriptive name. Find it and select it. Go to the File menu and from it select Burn "Descriptive folder name" to Disc...
Insert a blank DVD when prompted.
Let the finder complete the work and eject the disc afterwards.
    That's it. Best of luck.

  • How can I control the image size when I export form iphoto, the choice is too limited, I need to send a photo under 3 MB but if I choose high quaulity it is only 1.1 and i need to keep the best quaulity I can. Thanks for help.

How can I control the image size when I export form iphoto, the choice is too limited, I need to send a photo under 3 MB but if I choose high quaulity it is only 1.1 and i need to keep the best quaulity I can. Thanks for help.

Any image can only be as large as the Original. With a program like Photoshop you can UpRes an image and get it to a bigger size, larger files size as well, but the actual quality of the image will be degraded, depending on the UpRes system and the original quality of the image.
iPhoto is not the program to be doing that in and I don't think it even has that option.
So I suspect the image you are trying to send isn't much bigger than what you are getting. You can also try Exporting it from iPhoto to yopur desktop and see what size you end up with. If it is still that 209KB +/- file size then that is the size of the original image.

  • Best settings for iPhoto Slideshow Export

My aim is to export an iPhoto slideshow (iPhoto ‘11 v9.3.1) and import into the FCP7 sequence with the best possible quality.
Original video source - Sony camcorder - DV PAL (16.9 anamorphic) imported into FCP7 with a sequence preset of DV PAL 48 KHz Anamorphic (720 x 576)
    Stills for slideshow - 3648 x 2736 Jpeg
I realise I will lose significant quality to fit the restraints of the DV sequence and so after some tests the best result was through a custom export from iPhoto
    Compression - H.264
    Frame rate changed to 25
Keyframes & data rate - Automatic
    Quality - Best
    Encoding - Best Quality (multi-pass)
    Size - 768 x 576 SD
    A few thoughts -
Are there other settings for better results?
The resulting QT movie had a slightly inferior quality inside Final Cut than when played outside with Quicktime Player
Any movement over the stills created a strobing/flickering effect inside Final Cut - I have never been able to sort this problem out and now no longer set keyframes to move over stills.
I have tried a third party software (Industrial Revolution CoverFlux2) with no great improvement re flickering problem and general quality
The sequence is 16.9 but any attempt to export the slideshow to fit (eg 720 x 576 16.9) stretches the images.

Original video source - Sony camcorder - DV PAL (16.9 anamorphic) imported into FCP7 with a sequence preset of DV PAL 48 KHz Anamorphic (720 x 576)
    Stills for slideshow - 3648 x 2736 Jpeg
You're already in FCP7 so why go to iPhoto and then back to FCP?  That just adds layers of encoding which will reduce the final image quality.  As TD pointed out keep it in FCP

  • Export from iPhoto while keeping original photo information?? NEED HELP!!!

I'm trying to set up a pc for my grandmother so I can take over her old computer (macbook air). However she has 11000 photos on iPhoto and I need to move then all onto a storage device (about 30GB) but when I export them the computer doesn't copy all the information such as the date the photo was taken etc. Talking to a guy in the apple store he said i couldn't do it, but he was being pretty unhelpful so I was wondering if anyone here could give me an answer. How do you export from iPhoto while keeping all the information?

    This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
    As to dates specifically:
There are two kinds of metadata involved when you consider jpeg or other image file.
One is the file data. This is what the Finder shows. This tells you nothing about the contents of the file, just the File itself.
The problem with File metadata is that it can easily change as the file is moved from place to place or exported, e-mailed, uploaded etc.
Photographs have also got both Exif and IPTC metadata. The date and time that your camera snapped the Photograph is recorded in the Exif metadata. Regardless if what the file date says, this is the actual time recorded by the camera.
Photo applications like iPhoto, Aperture, Lightroom, Picasa, Photoshop etc get their date and time from the Exif metadata.
When you export from iPhoto to the Finder new file is created containing your Photo (and its Exif). The File date is - quite accurately - reported as the date of Export.
However, the Photo Date doesn't change.
The problem is that the Finder doesn't work with Exif.
So, your photo has the correct date, and so does the file, but they are different things. To sort on the Photo date you'll need to use a photo app.

  • Unable to export from iPhoto

I have tried to export individual photos and an album as a file(s) to my desktop and to smugmug via the iPhoto plugin without success. I have also put a new folder in Pictures and have tried to export the photos to it without success.
When exporting to desktop, the message comes up "Exporting...Unable to create /users/name/desktop."
When using the smugmug plugin, iPhoto "unexpectedly" shuts down!
I have tried to drag and drop photos from iPhoto without success of course.
I will appreciate your help and suggestions. This is the first time that I've had problems exporting from iPhoto.
    Vernon

Well the reason you can’t export is because iPhoto can’t find the pictures.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
    Regards
    TD
