Unknown Error Occured [1418[

When attempting to use my Ipod Nano I get a message saying the Ipod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored. Attempts to restore result in an "Unknown Error Occurred [1418]" message and goes back to the restore screen. This problem started when Itunes said that the Ipod software wasn't up to date and I attempted to download the new Ipod software. Any suggestions?

Did you try both of these:

  • An unknown error occurred (1418).

So my iPod has been a little neglected over the past few months since I've been out of a job. I don't need to take it to work anymore to listen to my music. Very recently I went through an entire reformat and reinstall of my OS and other programs, so my system is pretty clean, if I do say so myself.
I reorganize my music by what I want to load on my iPod and decide I need to take it out to charge. When I plug it in, it tells me that (basically) it has new firmware and asks me if I want to let iTunes handle the download and update. Sure I think, no biggie. I remember what it was like when you had to download a separate firmware setup, and I thought "Wow, cool. I don't have to do all that crap anymore."
As it starts updating my iPod it stalls, and I get an error message. No I can't recall it. It asks if I want to wait, cancel or -somthing else-. I tell it to wait and it seems to work, then it stalls on the update.
I do the 5 R's. I'm not unaccustomed to them, I have even had to wipe my iPod a few times because those don't work. Now what my iPod is doing is constantly saying "Do not disconnect," yet iTunes won't see it, but that is not the end of it.. oh no. (PC see's it just fine)
I pull some reboots to try and keep the fragmentation down when I do disconnect the iPod, and every time I restart iTunes and try to update and restore my iPod I get this message: "The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1418)." I'm getting this every single time. I reset, update iTunes, repair iTunes, reformat the iPod, try a different USB port, and I get the same thing over and over again. None of the help articles seem to be useful.
    Help?!?!

Ran a new diagnostic tonight, since I'm getting the same error and I have tried to fix it a few different ways.
The above error messages are gone. In their place this seemed to be the message that stood out:
[SERVICE: 0x844,00:16:24 ERROR] Did not find first letter of stage
Also there seems to be a huge bit at the bottom of the log with possible (?) IRQ destinations... I didn't notice this in the first one but because I saved over it, I'm not sure.

  • Please help: An unknown error occurred (1418)

I have several iPods and have used them basically trouble-free for years. Last night though, my 1st Generation ipod, after coming home after being away for a month, "died" after synching to my mac-mini. I went through the 5 Rs, but have no success in retsoring the Nano even to the original settings. The restore process via iTunes fails, giving the error message 1418. The unit has not been dropped or abused, but the only thing that has changed is an update to itunes and quick time on the mac mini. Any help is appreciated, as it appears my warranty expired while on vacation....

  • How can you get your music synced from iTunes to your iPod when a window pop ups on the screen saying"The iPod "Edward's iPod" cannot be synced. An unknown error occured (13019))?

I had 429 songs already on my iPod Touch. When I was in the process of syncing a song from my iTunes Library on to my iPod, a window popped up on the screen saying, ""The iPod "Edward's iPod" cannot be synced. An unknown error occured (13019)). I click "Device" on my iTunes Library to make sure the song was in my iPod. It showed the song that was recently synced now listed under "Device", but when I physically looked for the song on my iPod Touch, it does not appear on there at all. It all started when I decided to put a Playlist I created in the iTunes Library and transferred it on to my iPod. Do you know why it may affected my syncing process and is there any way where I could get the syncing function back to normal so that I can continue adding songs on my iPod? Thank you for listening.    P.S. My iPod iOS version is 4.3.5.

  • I downloaded an album from iTunes and some of the songs downloaded but others didn't there was an error message 8003 Unknown error occurred. While I downloaded the album to my phone, it wouldn't download to my mac, what am I doing wrong???

I purchased an album on ITunes store, while the items downloaded to my phone, it didn't download to my mac. Some of the songs downloaded but not the majority, when I try to download the songs, it gives me an error 8003 Unknown error occured. What am I doing wrong? If I can't download this album, how do I get a credit??

    Hello mercdw,
Once the music has been downloaded to your iPhone, you can transfer purchases from your device to iTunes.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
Alternatively, the following article provides further information regarding this error and steps that can help resolve the issue.
    "Error -50," "-5000," "8003," "8008," or "-42023"
These alerts occur due to timeouts or conflicts trying to write a file during download.
If you encounter this issue while accessing iTunes Store:
See iTunes 9: "One Moment Please" or "Error (-50)" message when accessing iTunes Store
If you encounter this issue while while downloading something from the iTunes Store:
Delete your iTunes Downloads folder, located in:
    Mac OS X:
~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Downloads   Note: "iTunes Media" may appear as "iTunes Music. Also, the tilde (~) refers to your Home directory.
    Windows Vista:
  \Users\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Downloads\
    Windows 7:
  \Users\username\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Downloads\
    Windows XP:
  \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Downloads\
After locating your iTunes Downloads folder:
    Quit iTunes.
Delete the Downloads folder on your computer.
    Open iTunes.
Choose Store > Check for Available Downloads.
Enter your account name and password.
If you encounter this issue while while downloading Digital Copies using Windows:
Use MSCONFIG (directions for Windows XP and Windows Vista/Windows 7) to disable conflicting software.
If using MSCONFIG steps resolves the issue, you may want to use the System Configuration Utility to turn on the third-party System Services and Startup Items one at a time (restarting your computer after turning on the item or items) to identify which System Service or Startup Item is causing the conflict.
You can turn all of them back on by selecting the Normal Startup option under the General tab of the System Configuration Utility window, but please note that this may cause the issue to reoccur.
If you are able to isolate the issue to a particular third-party software, you may wish to contact them to let them know of the conflict.

  • Itunes wont open, I get "itunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-50)"

I'm on Windows 7 - using itunes daily without problems and suddenly itunes wont open, I get "itunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-50)"  The only thing I can think is I think there was a download in progress when I shut down the computer.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalled, but I get the same thing. I tried clearing the itunes folder and reinstalling, same thing. help!

Doublechecking. When you did the complete uninstall, were you using the following document as a guide?
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
(If damaged program files are involved here, a standard install might not remove them, and a reinstall might not then replace them. So the Verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled section is an important step.)

  • "There was a problem downloading podcast. An unknown error occurred (-50)"

    Hello everyone,
When I try to download the latest episode of my podcast feed, I see an exclamation mark next to the episode. When I click on the exclamation mark for more information, I see the following error message:
"There was a problem downloading <podcast_episode>. An unknown error occurred (-50). Please check that the URL is correct and the connection to the network is active and try again."
I was hoping that somebody might take a look at my feed and review the code for any potential problems. It can be found here:
    http://www.stereogol.com/audio/wimpy_podcast.php
    Important notes:
    1. This is not XML code. It is an XML generator created in PHP.
    2. This feed used to work fine in iTunes. I had many episodes already downloaded.
    3. I began noticing the problem after upgrading to iTunes version 7 and beyond.
    4. I know at least 3 other people that experienced the same problem with my feed after upgrading.
    5. Upgrading to newer service packs (7.0.2 for example) has not solved the problem.
    6. I ran my feed through an RSS validator. It spotted 2 errors: (1) the width of the podcast image and (2) the syntax of the <source> tag. I made corrections but they did not solve the problem. I changed them back after that.
Thanks in advance for any input you can provide.
    Pedro

Try fixing up the validation issues...

  • There was a problem downloading An unknown error occurred (-50).

    Hi,
After upgrading to Itunes 11 it refused to play movies I had purchased through the Itunes store, even though I could see the files were there on my hard drive, and the movie covers were visible in Itunes. I discovered that the only way to get them playing was to redownload them from the Icloud. If this wasn't bad enough (I have over 200GB of movies) I am getting the following error on particular files.
There were problems downloading some purchased items.
For more information on the items that could not be downloaded, click below.

I hope somone can help me with both problems because whilst my ISP might like to see me download 200MB of data (I pay extra when I go over 20GB in a month), I would not. Also the error problem would be usefull to correct because I would hate to lose any of my Itunes purchases. I should probably mention that I am using Windows 8 64 bit.
    Thanks,
    Lachlan

    Hi Lachlan,
That sounds frustrating. Luckily, we have documentation on this error message:
iTunes Store: "Error (-50)" when downloading purchased content
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1583
This can happen when the connection timeout occurs while downloading purchased content from the iTunes Store. Certain types of software may also affect the way a computer sends and receives information from the internet. Here are a few examples of these types of software:
    - Firewalls
    - Web Accelerators
    - Ad Filters
    - Virus Protection Software
