Unlimited tablespace and unlimited quota

What is the differences between granting a user unlimited tablespace and giving unlimited quota. Is unlimited tablespace mean the user can create object in any tablespace?
Thanks,
Nur Hidayat

unlimited tablespace = user can create objects in any tablespace. In any tablespace he can use unlimited amount of space.
unlimited quota can be given to a user for a particular tablespace.
Disadvantages of giving unlimited tablespace privilege
1) The privilege overrides all explicit tablespace quotas for the user.
2) You cannot selectively revoke tablespace access from a user with the UNLIMITED TABLESPACE privilege. You can grant access selectively only after revoking the privilege.

  • Unlimited tablespace and dba_ts_quotas dynamic view

    Hi everybody,
    I have read an article about the dba_ts_quotas and particularly the following query :
    select username, tablespace_name,
    bytes/1024/1024 used,
    max_bytes/1024/1024 quota
    from dba_ts_quotas
    order by username
    which returns for each user and its tablespace the used tablespace and quota (size in the tablespace which can host user's objects).
    In the article , it is pointed out that if a user has unlimited tablespace on the tablespace then the column quota has the value of -0.000 , whereas in my database (oracle 10g v.2 on XP) the value -9,5367431 appears!!!!
    What may be the reason ...the different database versions????
    However the value -9,5367431 seems to be like 'irrelevant'.......
    Thanks , a lot

    Yes, and you can see it here:

  • Import tablespace and index seperately

    dear gurus,
    i created two tablespace testtbs, and testtbs_idx. so when i try to import the dump file. so complete file is going to tablespace.
    can you suggest advised as starting or beginner level what best practice should i do. so that both goes seperately.
    there is user test/test@orcl. the file is also test.dump
    i am not using parameter file rather it is single file command line issue. i am using rhel 5.3 with 10.2.0.4 10gr2.
    confirm another thing, at the time of creation user i give user test to tablespace test permission already. but tablespce index i have not given any permission.
    look at below and confirm if i miss or wrong anything...advise accordingly
    CREATE USER test IDENTIFIED BY test DEFAULT TABLESPACE PREMIA QUOTA UNLIMITED ON test TEMPORARY TABLESPACE TEMP;
    GRANT CONNECT,RESOURCE,IMP_FULL_DATABASE,EXP_FULL_DATABASE TO test;
    REVOKE UNLIMITED TABLESPACE FROM test;
    ALTER USER test QUOTA UNLIMITED ON test_IDX;
    imp test/test@orcl file='D:/bkup_dump/test.dmp' log='D:/bkup_dump/test.log' ignore=y FULL=Y;
    regards
    salim

    hello,
    CREATE USER test IDENTIFIED BY test DEFAULT TABLESPACE PREMIA
    QUOTA UNLIMITED ON test TEMPORARY TABLESPACE TEMP;is it like that you are creating user test, default tablespace premia and quota on test???? you should allow quota to user on its default tablespace only so try
    CREATE USER test IDENTIFIED BY test DEFAULT TABLESPACE test
    QUOTA UNLIMITED ON test TEMPORARY TABLESPACE TEMP;before executing this
    ALTER USER test QUOTA UNLIMITED ON test_IDX;
    have you executed this???
    ALTER USER TEST DEFAULT TABLESPACE TEST;
    ?????? you should do that.
    and import complete dump in users default tablespace and then rebuild all indexes to index tablespace, that will be easiest way....experts please correct me...
    alter index <index_name> rebuild online tablespace <new_tablespace>;
    import command is looking fine
    imp test/test@orcl file='D:/bkup_dump/test.dmp' log='D:/bkup_dump/test.log' ignore=y FULL=Y;you might like to include fromuser and touser clause if the user exported is different...and why using full?? are you importing full database???
    HTH
    thanks and regards

  • Database create and assigning Quotas

    Hello,
    when creating a database can we assign a tablespace unlimited quota?
    for example:

    MAXLOGFILES 5
    MAXLOGMEMBERS 3
    MAXDATAFILES 100
    DATAFILE 'd:\oracle\oradata\test\system01.dbf' SIZE 350M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 1024K MAXSIZE UNLIMITED
    sysaux datafile 'd:\oracle\oradata\test\sysaux01.dbf' size 350m reuse autoextend on next 10240K maxsize unlimited

    GROUP 3 ('d:\oracle\oradata\test\redo03.log','e:\oracle\oradata\test\redo03.log') SIZE 10240K;
    create tablespace test
    datafile 'd:\oracle\\oradata\test01.dbf' size 10M
    extent management local;
    can i assign unlimited quota on test tablespace? or i can only do after creating a schema user?
    Thank you.

    when creating a database can we assign a tablespace unlimited quota? Though the answer IMO would be the same what Pierre mentioned, no and it should be making sense too as the quota is assigned to the schema and there is no schema available when the database would be getting created except the internal schemas like Sys , System etc. And if its possible by some unknown way, you should not think of doing it.

  • Explain local manage tablespace and dictionary manage tablespace

    hi all,
    kindly help me to understand local manage and dictionary manage tablespace
    i have read search result and oracle corporation book still unable to understand
    what i know that local is managed by bitmap(no redo) and dictionary is managed by dictionary(generates redo) plz explain this as well
    and also suggest me some documentation.
    thanks
    Navin

    Navin,
    These are excerpts from Oracle documentation
    Dictionary Managed Tablespace_
    If you created your database with an earlier version of Oracle, then you could be using dictionary managed tablespaces. For a tablespace that uses the data dictionary to manage its extents, Oracle updates the appropriate tables in the data dictionary whenever an extent is allocated or freed for reuse. Oracle also stores rollback information about each update of the dictionary tables. Because dictionary tables and rollback segments are part of the database, the space that they occupy is subject to the same space management operations as all other data.
    Lcaolly Managed Tablesapce_
    A tablespace that manages its own extents maintains a bitmap in each datafile to keep track of the free or used status of blocks in that datafile. Each bit in the bitmap corresponds to a block or a group of blocks. When an extent is allocated or freed for reuse, Oracle changes the bitmap values to show the new status of the blocks. These changes do not generate rollback information because they do not update tables in the data dictionary (except for special cases such as tablespace quota information).
    Locally managed tablespaces have the following advantages over dictionary managed tablespaces:
    Local management of extents automatically tracks adjacent free space, eliminating the need to coalesce free extents.
    Local management of extents avoids recursive space management operations. Such recursive operations can occur in dictionary managed tablespaces if consuming or releasing space in an extent results in another operation that consumes or releases space in a data dictionary table or rollback segment.
    The sizes of extents that are managed locally can be determined automatically by the system. Alternatively, all extents can have the same size in a locally managed tablespace and override object storage options.

  • Open and cancelled Quote Report

    Hi,
    Can anyone give me the information  for getting open and cancelled Quote Report?

    I hope you are using reason for rejection for cancelling quotations. If that is the case, you can use transaction VA25 to view the list of quotations. Here you can filter on two columns status and reason for rejection to view the report as per your requirement.

    How to avoid these errors?

    Short of trying to then reverse-engineer the objects that are in the dump file (I believe Data Pump export files contain some XML representations of DDL in addition to various binary bits, making it potentially possible to try to scan the dump file for the object definitions), I would tend to assume that the export didn't include those type definitions.
    Since it looks like you're trying to set up the sample schemas, is there a reason that you wouldn't just run the sample schema setup scripts on the destination database? Why are you using Data Pump in the first place?

  • How to quickly switch between straight and curly quotes?

    I've recently moved from a Windows XP machine with MS Office to a Mac Pro with Pages.
    For the kinds of documents I typically work on, sometimes I need to have straight quotes, and sometimes curly quotes. With MS Word, I was able to create a couple of macros that would switch these preferences for me. With these macros linked to an icon in the toolbar, switching between straight and curly quotes was as easy as clicking a button.
    Now I'm looking for a way to do this -- or something like it -- with Pages.
    I know how to switch back and forth using the preferences menu, of course, but I'm looking for something quicker and simpler, since I often have to make this change several times a day.
    Can Automator do something like this? Or is there another way?
    -- Eric

    Turn off the auto correction and you can type Curly quotes with:
    left single ‘ option ]
    right single ’ option shift ]
    left double “ option [
    right double ” option shift [
    If you want the French quotes « and » they are option and option shift |

  • Outlook 2010 apostrophe, single and double quotes are changes to question mark while sending mails to other internet receipient.

    We are using MS Outlook 2010 as our mail client. But we have noticed that whenevr we sent a mail to any other internet mail recipient all the "apostrophe", "single" and "double quotes" have automatically converted to ?. We have
    done almost all the workaround found in this site such as
    1.New a message and focus on the message window > click File > Options > Mail > Spelling and Autocorrect… > Proofing > AutoCorrect Options… > AutoFormat > clear the box before “Straight quotes” with “smart quotes”
    2. Used different encoding. We presently using US-ASCII for outgoing message. etc.
    Need your help to sort out these issues urgently.
    Waiting for a solution.

    Hi,
    What is your account type? IMAP, POP or Exchange?
    Send an email from the webmail, ask the recipient if this issue persists.
    As far as I know, this problem is always related to the encoding for outgoing messages, and here I suggest you try UTF-8:
    Go to File -> Options -> Advanced -> International options -> Uncheck "Automatically select encoding for outgoing messages", then select "Unicode (UTF-8)" beside "Preferred encoding for outgoing messages" -> OK.

  • Pages '09 integrating straight and curly quotes within one file.

    I'm doing an edit in Pages and the document has a mix of straight and curly quotes. I can't seem to find a way to get them all the same. Find-and-replace turns some of the quotes backwards (as in 'em for them) Nothing in the archives addresses this.

    Look for patterns in search and replace.
    Search for a space + " to get the leading quote and " + space to get a trailing quote.
    Or get WordServices to fix all this.

  • Characters such as apostrophes and smart quotes turning into boxes or question marks

    We recently upgraded from CF5 to CF7 and are having a problem
    with previously saved text that no longer displays correctly. Some
    characters (apparently, non-ASCII characters such as curly
    apostrophes and smart quotes) are rendering as boxes or question
    marks. We recently upgraded to Oracle 10g from Oracle 8i, but this
    problem appears to be independent of the database that the text is
    stored in. Here is sample code that will illustrate the problem:
    <CFSET string1="Department’s">
    <CFSET string2="hey—there">
    <CFOUTPUT>
    string1 is #string1#
    <BR>
    string2 is #string2#
    </CFOUTPUT>
    output looks like this:
    string1 is Department?s
    string2 is hey?there
    These are rendered as boxes when viewed in Internet Explorer.
    (They show up as question marks when I copy and paste them here.)
    The Demoronize UDF helps *some* of the time, but this is
    still happening with a lot of text, especially text that gets
    pasted from a website into a form, then saved to a database. Does
    anybody have a solution for this? This is breaking my applications
    and is incredibly annoying. I'd like to either replace the
    problematic characters at the time they are displayed, or replace
    them when they are input in the database in the first place (and go
    back and update all the previously saved data to replace the
    problematic characters with plain text equivalents).
    Any suggestions appreciated.

    I finally isolated the problematic characters so I edited the
    DeMoronize UDF (available at cflib.org) by adding the following
    text replacements at the bottom:
    text = Replace(text, chr(8208), "-", "ALL");
    text = Replace(text, chr(8209), "-", "ALL");
    text = Replace(text, chr(8210), "&ndash;", "ALL");
    text = Replace(text, chr(8211), "&ndash;", "ALL");
    text = Replace(text, chr(8212), "&mdash;", "ALL");
    text = Replace(text, chr(8213), "&mdash;", "ALL");
    text = Replace(text, chr(8214), "||", "ALL");
    text = Replace(text, chr(8215), "_", "ALL");
    text = Replace(text, chr(8216), "&lsquo;", "ALL");
    text = Replace(text, chr(8217), "&rsquo;", "ALL");
    text = Replace(text, chr(8218), ",", "ALL");
    text = Replace(text, chr(8219), "'", "ALL");
    text = Replace(text, chr(8220), "&ldquo;", "ALL");
    text = Replace(text, chr(8221), "&rdquo;", "ALL");
    text = Replace(text, chr(8222), """", "ALL");
    text = Replace(text, chr(8223), """", "ALL");
    text = Replace(text, chr(8226), "&middot;", "ALL");
    text = Replace(text, chr(8227), "&gt;", "ALL");
    text = Replace(text, chr(8228), ".", "ALL");
    text = Replace(text, chr(8229), "..", "ALL");
    text = Replace(text, chr(8230), "...", "ALL");
    text = Replace(text, chr(8231), "&middot;",
    "ALL");

  • Single and double quotes entered in form field cause corruption?

    I am creating a database change request system using in APEX 2.2 and the main form has a description field (clob) and a API_description field (varchar2(4000)) that are text area fields on the page. The form seems to have trouble when the string data entered into the text area page items on the form contain single and double quotes.
    <br><br>
    I have pasted my test data below in this problem description(this is not true sql but it gets the point accross). I use the wizard created insert process to get the data into the db from the text fields in the wizard generated form, then use the wizard created fetch process to get the data back out and rendered on the same form. When I use the test data below, sometimes a few characters dissappear from my input data on the way out, sometime form fields go away, and their html is interspersed with the previous form field's data on the page. And I get different results on different tests with the same data.
    <br><br>
    Do I have to do something special for a vanilla htmldb text page item on a form to be able to receive single and double quotes in the string input in order to avoid that string data confusing the processing on the way in to the Database or on the way out for rendering?
    <br><br>
    Do I have to escape the characters? How do I do this?
    <br><br>
    The "varchar2(1) := ‘A’" part of the below TEST DATA string seem to cause the most trouble. The behavior is erratic - sometimes the pattern works, sometimes html is interspersed in one place, sometimes another (on the way back out)
    <br><br>
    START TEST DATA:
    Add column pcl3_data_ind varchar2(1) to edc_tran,edc_log, edc_recreate_tran table
    Or
    Create a file with following sql in it
    Insert into sometable values(‘A’,sysdate);
    Or
    create new table as follows
    create table “someschema”.“sometable”
    (id number not null,
    Name varchar2(20) not null,
    Join_date sysdate
    Active varchar2(1) := ‘A’
    END TEST DATA:
    <br><br>
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
    Here is an example of the test data being displayed after being fetched back out of oracle (this will look like gibberish when rendered in the forum system (end of problem description except for example):
    <br><br>
    env
    Add column pcl3_data_ind varchar2(1) to edc_tran,edc_log, edc_recreate_tran table
    Or
    Create a file with following sql in it
    Insert into sometable values(‘A’,sysdate);
    Or
    crete new tableas follws
    crate table “somesca”.“sometable”
    har2(20) not null,
    Join_date sysdate
    Active varchar2(1) := ‘A’

    I found a good php related post that has a nice set of the potentially problematic characters (this is in the context of word pasted into IE I think). I am pretty confident that at least single curly quotes do not work well in apex 2.2). I would not be surprised if some of the others were trouble as well.:
