Unreadable photos when trying to import old photos to new updated iPhoto??

After updating to Yosemite and updating iPhoto to 9.6, when trying to import all my old photos, it says they are all unreadable.  How do I update the file format of the photos to import them?

You found the right way to do it.  Never import an iPhoto Library into iPhoto. Just open the iPhoto Library by double-clicking it. You are lucky, that iPhoto prevented you from importing the iPhoto Library. It would have created a terrible mess of duplicate photos in all sizes.

  • I'm trying to import "old" photos from my iPad to my MacBook.

I'm trying to import all of the photos from my iPad to my laptop. Although I can clearly see TONS of photos on my iPad, when I plug it into my laptop all that are showing as available for import are two that I already imported and 86 "new" ones.
How can I import other "old" ones?
Not sure how much difference this makes, but my iPad is an older one (first iPad) as is my MacBook, although my MacBook has all of the updates available for it.
    Thanks,

  • Re error 8 message/corrupt photo when trying to buy a photo book

I am trying to upload a photo book, which I have done many times before, and this message comes up: "com.apple.chameleon.component
General.error 8." The book  stops uploading at page 4 and sites a corrupt photo. How do I find out which photo is causing the problem? The same thing happens when I try to preview the book. Help!

Remove the photos on page 3 and preview - if it works re place the photos on p 3 oneone and  preview until you find the problem photo - if the problem is not on p 3 then  do the same on p4 and p5 is necessary

  • Receive an error message when trying to import any videos from iphone to iphoto on my desktop.  Help?

I have 6 videos on my iphone, varying in length from 24 seconds to 11 minutes, that will not import to iphoto.  I have tried to import them as a group and individually but get a message that 'there was a problem accessing the file.'  I had no difficulty importing over 300 photos from the phone to the desktop.  Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.  Thanks.  Anne

See if you can use Image Capture to upload the video files to a folder on the Desktop and then import from there into iPhoto.

  • When opened, iPhoto freezes trying to import old photos from library

When I open iphoto, I get a message that says "26 photos have been found in the iphoto library that were not imported. Would you like to import them now?" When I click YES, my computer freezes and I must force quit. The only way I can open iphoto is to ignore this message. This occurs when no devices are hooked up to my computer. How can I fix this or delete these 'mystery' photos that are waiting to be imported? Help! (Please and Thanks)

quit iPhoto and in the finder right click on the iPhoto Library package, select the Show Package contents option and fine the folder names Import or Importing and drag it to your desktop - DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE within the iPhoto Library
close and restart iPhoto - you should be ok. Look inside the import folder from the finder and see if there is anything you want to save - if not trash the folder and its contents - if there are photos you want to save drag them one at a time onto the iPhoto icon or the open program - if you find one that cause,s problems trash it

  • File could not be written....is the problem when trying to import any photo from my hard drive.. I have just downloaded lightroom 5 and it does not seem to want to link with my photos .. win 7

    question

Could you quote the entire error message, word-for-word, verbatim? What Import settings are you using ... Copy, Move, Add?
Most likely you have a permissions issue, but it will be much more clear to me if I can see the entire message.

  • Unreadable File when trying to import Pictures from CompactFlash in Reader

In the past I have been able to read images from my compactflash.
    This just started happening.
I have a Canon EOS Rebel and it stores images on a CompactFlash. When I put it in my Dazzle* Hi-Speed USB 2.0 reader to download the images into iPhoto, I'm getting "unreadable file" errors. Then I take the same reader and flash card to my Windows laptop, I'm able to read the images. Then I figure.. what if I manually copy the pictures to a folder on the Mac... Well, they copy over, and if I single click the file when my finder is on Column mode, the thumbnail of the image comes up in the Preview pane, but when I double click it for Preview Application to open, the image comes up digitally corrupted. Even if I take my USB cable that came with the camera, I put the flash back into the camera and then I try to download the images and still get the same error.
I HAVE TO FIGURE OUT A WAY TO GET MY PICS TO IPHOTO!!
So, I scaled down the capture from LARGE to SMALL, and tried to read the files from the reader again. I GET THE SAME ERROR! Then I try the USB Cable direct to the camera, and lo and behold, iPhoto is able to pull in the pictures.
My question is... Has anybody out there experienced CompactFlash card reader problems? You think this is a Tiger problem?
PS.. I've tried reformatting the flash using the OS from the Camera, and with Windows OS with no success.
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for the reply...
When I was experimenting, I copied the files from the reader unto the mac, discovered I couldn't read it, then from the Windows computer, I networked over to the Mac to attempt to view the images. It was corrupted, that's when I went on a wrong tangent.. and started blaming the camera. I foolishly formatted the card, erasing the good images. So, now I'm left with bad images on the Mac because, I missed the opportunity to copy the images unto the windows laptop with the reader. There weren't that many pictures, but darn... we could've used one of them for our XMAS card.
This experiment still begs the question, "How come the reader can work on the windows computer and not the Mac?" but, life is short... readers are cheap, I'll just buy one just like the one I borrowed... that works, on the Mac, and keep the other reader on the Windows computer with a sign that says "Doesn't work on Mac!".
But just curious, what is a "kext file"? Is that a driver?

  • Error "A web exception has occurred during file upload" when trying to import ESXi image file into Update Manager

I'm encountering this error and not sure how to fix, I'm quite new to vCenter so please bear with me.
I'm trying out vCenter 5.1 with Update Manager 5.1 right now.  No license key has been entered and I still have 50 odd days to try it out.
2 ESXi hosts are being managed by this vCenter, and they're both running ESXi 4.0
I'm looking to use Update Manager to try to upgrade the ESXi 4.0 hosts to ESXi 5.1
I downloaded the image file VMware-VIMSetup-all-5.1.0-799735.iso from VMWare website, and is looking to import it using the Update Manager so I can update the ESXi hosts, but I keep on getting the error:
    File name:     VMware-VIMSetup-all-5.1.0-799735.iso
    Failed to transfer data
Error was: A web exception has occurred during file upload
I tried importing it by using vSphere client to connect to vCenter server both remotely and locally, with firewall disabled.
    I've read http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1026602
I've disabled firewall, and there is no anti-virus program on the server.  I've also restarted the machine several times, to no avail, I didn't reinstall update manager because the whole Windows and VCenter installations are clean from scratch.
I logged into the vSphere Client using Active Directory credentials, and I've made all Domain Admins (which my account is a member of) part of the administrator group on the vCenter server. I can't log in using admin@System-Domain because it tells me I don't have permissions for it, I still haven't really had the chance to figure out why that is and not sure if that makes a difference.
Also, I'm fairly certain I'm using the right image file, as I've burned some DVD's used that image file to upgrade some other ESXi hosts.  Unless there's a special image file I need to download?
I'm at lost on what I can do to make it work.  Please advise.
    Thanks.

The ISO file you mentioned is the one for vCenter Server. What you need is the "VMware-VMvisor-Installer-5.1.0-799733.x86_64.iso" (or VMware-VMvisor-Installer-201210001-838463.x86_64.iso) for the ESXi host.

  • Lightroom 5.7.1 stops responding when trying to import photos from iPhone.

As the title says, when trying to import the photos from my phone which I've done with Lightroom for a couple years now, the program stops responding entirely. This happens with both mine and my wife's phones. We did leave hers plugged in over night and it eventually started responding again and I was able to import her photos. But I can account for at least 5 hours during which it was not responding first. I'm not sure what changed over night that finally let it work again.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

You're sure you want to stop using iphoto? Then I would try it this way instead:
Export each event in your iphoto library separately, put the photos where you want to keep them and use "from files and folders". If there's an event that the organizer chokes on, then you'll have to go into that one photo by photo to see where the problem lies. (You are aware that using "from iphoto" is duplicating your entire iphoto library, so you don't want to do that AND keep using iphoto, right?)

  • All of a sudden I am getting an "unreadable files" message when trying to import photos to iphoto, how do I fix

Why am I all of a sudden getting an unreadable file message when trying to import photos to iphoto from the card in my Nikon camera?  I have done this many times before with no problem.

Can you access the files from Image Capture (in your Applications Folder)?
Have you tried a USB Card Reader?
Have you tried reformatting the card with the Camera?

  • Error message when trying to import photos into Bridge CS5

Hi, when trying to import photos from a card reader into Bridge CS5, I click "get Photos" and get the following error message: "cannot obtain all files from this device. Please ensure the device is connected properly, or that the battery is charged". It imports a small selection of the images from the sd card but that is all. I'm currently using a Windows 7 desktop computer with plenty of ram.
    Any suggestions?

Hi station_two, thanks for your quick response.
I can confirm that its not the card reader/cable, usb port, defective sd card or the computer itself. I have already eliminated all these potential culprits through trial and error using different several ports/cards/readers and even a different computer (although not into bridge).
I am able to copy the photos from the same card/card reader into Lightroom on the same computer (incidentally, when using Lightroom it uses the term 'Import photos'!)
I am using a number of Panasonic Lumix Micro 4/3s cameras (GH1/GF1/GX1). The sd cards have a combination of RAW and JPEG and the problem exists whether using 4GB or 16GB cards. I have plenty of space left on my hard drive and as stated, I'm running a fast desktop PC (Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS) so I'm certain this is not the issue.
Could this possibly be a problem with the cache?

I get this pop up when trying to create a photo book through the iPhoto store.
"Some or all of the photos you selected were downloaded from your published albums. You can only view these photos. To use them in an album or a slideshow or project, you must import them to your photo library."
The photos I have selected have already been imported so how and why do I do it all over again?
What do they mean by published albums?  I categorize them into photo albums for organizational purposes after I import them from my camera or phone. So why can't I put them into a book now?
I have over 400 photos selected for a photo book for my child's graduation gift so how can I tell which photos I have to do this to?
Please help. Any insight wouyld be appreciated.
    Confused and frustrated...

Give this a try:  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.

  • When trying to import photos with iPhoto from photoshop.. won't let me keeps saying that the photos are already in the iPhoto library but they are not... need to fix this

When trying to import photos with iPhoto from photoshop... won't let me keeps saying that the photos are already in the iPhoto library but they are not

If you are using Photoshop from within iPhoto the following may help with the workflow.  However, we do need to know the answers to the questions posed by Terence and Larry to be able to help you.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
    Screenshots are from PSE 10
Note 1:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
Note 2:  editing a RAW file with either PSE or PS creates a new file which must be saved outside of iPhoto, i.e. the Desktop, and imported as a new photo into the iPhoto Library.
