Unrecognized usb device

Since loading iTunes 10.6.1 my Windows system is unable to load the USB device driver for iPhone or iPads. Anyone else with the problem or even better a solution?

Did you already try to remove iTunes and all Apple related software and install iTunes again after that?

  • Unrecognized USB device on A30-151 in XP

After a clean install of WinXP Pro on a Satellite A30-151, a USB Device remains in the "Other" category (after installing audio, modem and graphics drivers) for which no drivers appear to be available on the drivers CD. At that point the "USB" category contains four entries, two standard "Universal Host Controllers" and two "OpenHost" controllers, all with default drivers.
I suspect the missing device may be a USB 2.0 "PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller" from a further manufacturer, but Toshiba does not offer a driver for XP for this so it should be supported by the OS (?!).
Any suggestions as to what the device may be, and what drivers it requires?

Turns out XP only supports USB 2.0 as per SP1, so it seems a pre-SP1 version of XP Pro results in the native Windows drivers being unavailable. For anyone in a similar position, it looks as though either a) upgrading to SP1 or b) installing the hotfix Q312370 (

  • 6500 Slide unrecognized USB device

    Hi all,
I've been handed my sisters 6500 slide( 555552 RM-240 ) to fix because it wont transfer pics.
Essentially when it's plugged in it prompts for usb mode just fine but shows as an unrecognized device (on three different computers, two windows and linux vis lsusb showing unknown device)
I've tried restoring factory settings which has done absolutely nothing, warranty has expired so taking it to a NCP isn't really an option, does anybody have any ideas?

Cheers for the replies but I think my post may have been misunderstood.
I've tried both data storage/mass storage mode and PC suite mode connected to three different computers (two of which have PC Suite installed and recognize my N97 fine.
My problem is the phone is presenting itself as "unknown device" no matter which mode it's in or which computer it's connected to, so I know it's not a driver issue or an issue with the computers, I've also tried a different usb cable.
I'll post the output of lsusb later when I get the phone back to illustrate what I mean
    Ta.

  • Freezing iPod combined with unrecognized USB device combo... Worst yet?

    Hey Everyone,
I'm using a 5G 30Gb iPod, or at least I was... It was working fine for a couple of ways, untill yesterday I did the following 3 things:
-Updated Adobe with that photo stuff
    -Used an usb Memory stick
-Charged it with a Logic3 AC adapter
I have no if these are the trouble makers, but the usb stick is my main suspect. Since I did these things, my iPod shows the following behaviour:
-When connected to computer, shows the "do not disconnect" for about 30sec.
-After that, the computer starts seeing a "usb storage device".
-At the same time the computers starts seeing the iPod, the iPod freezes.
Due to this crashing, I can't format it or change the drive letter indication. I've tried everything I could think off, including:
    -5R's
-Uninstalling iTunes + iPod software completely
-Installing from the disk, or the latest updates
-Tried to install those usbstor.sys/inf, but it says "best drivers already installed".
-Rebooting over a 100 times (at least that's how it feels now).
Well I guess that was about all, but I've tried it numerous times..
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Ingmar

Wow, I've just had a nightmare experience with Apple and their so called "genius" bar at their store. After at least 10 combined hours of trial and error, on the phone with Apple Care & time spent at the genius bar, turns out (and this is just what I am presuming based on the evidence) that this 5th Gen IPOD won't necessarily work with your existing 2.0 USB port. The USB port has to be "WHQL" certified. My IOGear USB card isn't WHQL certified. I found this out by going to IOGear's website and reading the FAQs about my card. I suggest you do the same ... like go to the USB card's manufacturer's site and read about it. I'm sure there will be something about errors with IPODs ... it might tell you that this card is not compatible (as it did with me). So .. I have two choices now :
    1) Use my IPOD with the slow 1.1 USB link (not going to be happy with that )
    2) Buy a new "compatible" card. (also not the happiest about it)
Below are two cards Apple Care says will work for sure:
    1) OrangeMicro Model # 70USB90011
    2) Belkin Model # F5U219
    Last but not least ...
Why does Apple not know of this?!!! Why do I have to figure all of this out myself?

  • Nano unrecognized USB device

Has anyone had a problem getting Windows MCE to recognize a Nano? I had a similar problem with a Netgear wireless USB adapter and their tech folks said it was a driver issue. Is that the same case here and if so, does Apple have a driver to solve this problem?

  • IPod nano no longer recognized USB device - after almost 2 perfect years

Okay, so I ran about 5 miles last night using my nike+ipod. The ipod worked flawlessly as usual. When I went to plug it in to my computer, instead of acting normal I got "unrecognized USB device" or something similar. iTunes didn't recognize it either. It was charging however. The ipod still plays music, but without being recognized I won't be able to get any music changed on it.
I already tried a couple of things. I rebooted the computer. I plugged it in to another computer (with same results). I switched the hold switch and then held down the top two buttons for 6 seconds, etc. It turns off and back on fine. It plays music fine. The computer seems to know it's there b/c it charges and respondes "USB device not recognized". It just doesn't recognize it anymore.
Please help! Did I sweat too much on it?

I got my ipod in May for my birthday and its worked pretty fine up until now. I went on holiday for two weeks to France where I went running everyday with my ipod and it worked fine but on the journey home in the car it wouldnt work and froze. Now it wont charge and is unrecognised on my pc and says that there are no drivers installed for this Device when it before worked fine. I have tried everything that has been mentioned on every discussion I could find and it still isn't working. It's driving me crazy! Could any1 help please? All suggestions appreciated.
Out of curiousity could it be a faulty wire?

  • Can a USB device be owned even when logged out?

We are trying to deploy THUM (temperature and humidity USB measurement) devices from Practical Design Group --- simple USB-attached devices to track ambient temperature in our application --- on a variety of Mac hardware all running OS X 10.5.2. We've found, not too surprisingly in retrospect, that when a user logs out, or even is sent into stasis by fast user switching to another user, that user, even as a cron job, can no longer access the USB device --- the USB ports, after all, have to be available to whoever may then be the "console" user. We're trying to run a cron job (that is, one run every n minutes) that will run the vendor's OS X executable to sample the temperature and append the result to a file, to build up a temperature record.
Is there any way around this? We would like to be able to grab the particular USB device and assign it to the original user through any login or logout or fast user switch as long as the machine stays up.
We know that there's a default setting to automount volumes on boot without user, and are wondering if there's anything similar for USB devices.
I've had a look around the Apple USB Device Interface Guide, but it doesn't appear to discuss this issue.
Thanks in advance for any clues.

  • Can this USB device be recognised on start up.

    Hi All
Am using USB Wireless Lan device.
The device is working well except for the annoying problem that it is not recognised when the device is in the usb port during stat up. Therefore, it has to be pulled out and reinserted every time I start up, for the internet to work.
Does anyone know of any solutions to this problem?
    Much appreciated.

  • USB Device Not Recognized - Palm 700p Verizon

    Hi,
Yesterday morning I could sync, yesterday afternoon I got the error message "USB Device Not Recognized.  One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."  Sometimes when I click on the associated error pop-up message, it shows the location of my "unrecognized device" but sometimes nothing shows up.
I've seen a couple of posts on the web generally about this, but not about the 700p.  I've tried rebooting the computer, tried syncing to a different computer, tried rebooting the phone, and blown out the contacts.  I don't want to buy a new USB cable if I can help it because I'm thinking about getting a Pre anyways (although the fact that I can't seem to use Palm's chat function through either Internet Explorer or Firefox is starting to dissuade me).
Anyways, is there anything else I can try to resolve the issue with my 700p or should I just give up?
    Thanks,
    Margaret

if you already tried your phone and USB cable to a different USB port and computer then the problem could be in either the phone or the cable. if you don't want to buy a new cable because of your plan. maybe you can visit a store near you where you can borrow a cable or PC. at least you trying to make sure which is defective. in cases like this, the cause is the USB cable.

  • IPad mini USB device not recognized

Trying to get my laptop pc with Windows 7 to recognize my iPad mini on iTunes v11.  Actually, trying to get it recognized by my pc at all.  It shows up as an Unkown Device when i plug it in, as well as in my Device Manager.  I've gone through Apple's online Troubleshooting guide (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538), but when I click Hardware IDs in the Devices tab as requested, it shows up as Unrecognized (USB/UNKNOWN) still -- the Troubleshooting guide does not adress this scenario.  I've been connecting it to several funcitoning USB ports (that recognize my iPhone 4S just fine) via the "lighting" cable that came with the iPad mini, with the same result.
This is a very simple Windows 7 laptop so it strikes me as very odd that this wouldn't work simply.  I've checked around the net and seen people with similar dilemmas without any known solution yet, as far as I can tell.  Please advise, Thanks.

I tried the method mentioned and it didn't resolve my problem.
After much frustration, I opened Device Manager on my PC with my iPad Mini conected in one USB Port, I located it as Another Device (Not Recognized) / iPad. Double Clicked iPad and manually Reinstall the Driver.
It wasn't recognized as Apple Mobile Device in Universal Serial Bus Controllers before.

  • New USB Problems - USB Device Not Recognized

I've had Ultimate x64 installed for awhile now.  It's gone through some growing pains (mostly NVIDIA-related BSOD issues) but it's usually pretty stable.  About a week ago it started having USB problems.
I have a SanDisk ImageMate USB 2.0 card reader that suddenly stopped reading my camera media.  I also have an HP photosmart 7960 that stopped printing (I was using drivers for another printer, per instructions from HP, because this printer doesn't have Vista drivers).  My Memorex flash drive also no longer works, and it no longer sees my Garmin GPS.  They all say "USB Device Not Recognized".
I contacted HP and they determined that my USB needed to be rebuilt.  This is what I did:
    Unplugged all USB devices.
    Removed all related USB software.
Booted up in safe mode and went to Device Manager and uninstalled, in this order: USB root hubs, then USB host controllers.
Even in safe mode, I couldn't get everything to stay deleted.  As soon as I deleted a USB host controller it would reinstall itself and install a root hub.
I rebooted, and now I'm trying to install the SanDisk card reader.  It installs it, and then there is an exclamation point next to "USB Mass Storage Device" in Device Manager.  I've tried to update the driver (also by having it look in C:\Windows and all subfolders) and it says "Windows was able to successfully install device driver software, but the driver software encountered a problem when it tried to run.  The problem code is 10."
So I seem to be stuck with no USB.  I've been throwing new hardware at Vista, determined not to go back to XP.  However, I'm sure I can't work without USB.  What should I do at this point?
    Thanks!

WHY hasn't anyone replied to this thread?  This is a huge issue, and I am certain millions are affected.  Glowball, did you find a solution.
I have had major issues with my PC Card (PCIMIA SLOT) Adapter TYPE I & II Compact Flash Card Readers, which were plug and play in XP, give the same behavior - now you see it , now you don't!  None of the manufacturers were willing to provide any acknowledgement nor certify their devices for VISTA.  However, on the MS Support site I did find the attached instruction for a Reg Edit which allows the assignment of an IRQ to the PC Card Adapter in VISTA - apparently this was not required in XP (is this an advance in the OS??? I think not!).  IRQ 16 was assigned, and now works great on my Vista Home Premium laptop.
On my other Vista Business laptop, I have a PC Express Cardslot - haven't tried an Adapter for SD + cards yet there, but supposed to not have the same issues, I believe.  However, I am having the same issue Glowball describes above with my USB  Card reader. It is USB 2.0 high speed certified and has been working great for Readyboost with an 8 GB SD card inserted and adding 4 GB of Readyboost "ram".  However, when I also inserted a CF card into the adjacent slot of the same card reader, it has become an "unrecognized device" as noted above.  Tried unplugging, replugging USB cable.  Although still displayed in My Computer and Explorer, the drive contents are not updated or active and cannot be opened - get "drive not present error" and the USB error noted above.
I am unwilling to delete the USB drivers/device EVERY time I need to work with a CF card.  Surely there is a registry correction for this issue.  It must also tie into this IRQ issue noted with the PCIMIA card readers above as well?
    Anybody know or CARE?

  • HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 color M551dn - Optional USB Device port

Hi, I'm hoping to buy the optional wireless print server (HP Jetdirect 2700w USB Wireless Print Server J8026A). There is one problem though, the optional USB device port seems to not exist on my printer. I only notice that the USB logo is present where the port is supposed to be. The plastic in the area is squared off as though it is some sort of break away tab and the port is underneath maybe.
There is no reference to this in the manual anywhere and I am really unsure how to proceed. I don't want to damage anything.
If someone experienced with this model (preferably an HP Employee) can confirm the availability of the port and tell me how to access it (Is it a break away tab?). Part of the reason why I bought this printer is the optional Wireless N print server.
    Thank You in advance.

Thank You for your reply. The port you are talking about is the front panel port for walk-up usb printing and firmware upgrades. This port is indeed available on the higher end LaserJet 500 (NON-MFP, printer only edition) as I just used it to upgrade the firmware. The port I am talking about is the one on the left side in the ports section which you use to plug in the optional print server (not the computer I/O port).
This is shown in the official manual and the spec sheet so I'm 85% sure the port is there, hp can't advertise and mention something that is not available as this would be a big problem and make the 2700w print server incompatible when it clearly states that it is. I just need someone to confirm the availability and clear my confusion (either from HP, or another owner who bought the wireless print server 2700w).

  • USB Device for IPOD not recognized by Windows, whether ipod connected or no

During the past few days I have received a pop up error message from (I would think) Windows that the USB device is not recognized. I have the USB plug for the ipod connected (as always)but the ipod isn't even connected. It keeps popping up like every few seconds that the usb device is not recognized.
When I attach the ipod itself, the ipod is recognizing it because it powers up. But, it took 10 times just to get the ipod to recognize through itunes. It updated, then immediately upon completion, windows again starting giving repeated error messages that the usb device wasn't recognized.
I have downloaded the newest itunes but I had it on my system for 4 days with no problems whatsoever. I don't think that's it. No other system changes.
I've deleted my temp files and cache. Also did a "disk clean up" and "defrag." It's still doing it.
    Any suggestions?

I'm having the same problem. Ever since I upgraded to version 7, iTunes & my PC no longer recognise my iPod, and it therefore won't sync.
It's not the USB port (other devices work in it), I rebooted my iPod and re-installed iTunes, I've tried stopping and starting the iPod Service (but can't see my iPod in My Computer). When I run the Diagnostics it says iPod connection failed. I've even bought a new USB cable but that doesn't work either.
This is driving me up the wall. Is there a glitch with iTunes 7?
Can anyone help me out?? Thanks
