Unsupported iPad video

I have two iPads. ios 3.2 plays MP4 video but ios 4.2.1 does not. What changed in the new OS to cause this to fail. I just get a black window?

MP4 video is supported by iOS but not in the Connect Mobile App. If you want your video to show in the mobile app, upload the video as FLV.

Thanks! For whatever bizarre reason for which I have no answer - I sync'd my iPad to my MBP the old fashion way (not iCloud) and the movie showed up just fine. It is Nikon camera 'how to' video. I like to watch them for a better indepth discovery of what the camera can do. The only weird thing about the hard wire sync is that it was placed in a catagory "home movies" which was never there before...actually it showed up in two places "home movies" and TV shows.

Double click the clip in the Timeline, to place it in the viewer.
In the Viewer window click the Motion tab. Adjust the "Scale" control and set keyframes as needed.

IPad video poster frames white box with grey tv, looking for fix

I have searched the forums and can not find a working solution.
I have mpeg4 Apple TV/ iPad videos that I have added to my iPad through iTunes.
When they came in, all the poster frames were black, as that's the first frame of video. I manually went though iTunes and set each poster frame.
I then sync and reboot on the iPad. Poster frames are now white squares with grey tv.
Repeated the above twice.
Signed in and out of home share (as suggested by one forum) and reboots iPad.
Have removed all files from iPad and then added back. Back to black poster frames.
I have no way to check if the poster frame are correct as in iTunes, I can only see files on the iPad in list view. When I do get info, there is nothing about the poster frame.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Still looking for an answer on this. In addition to the above:
I have tried setting the poster frames inside of iTunes
I have tried setting the poster frames outside of iTunes and then importing onto the iPad though iTunes.
Setting ratings made no difference.
I can not add artwork manually, it is greyed out in the info pain and not accessible.
Still same results. Now all video files are a Grey Square with a different symbol depending on what "Media Kind" the file is set to. And in fact, when I do this, the files disappear from iTunes and I can no longer find them.
Apple, Please help!!

Why does my iPad video shoot in 24 fps when 25 fps PAL is the standard for Europe?

At some point in trying to get my iPad 2 video into a viewable place ie my TV I had an alert telling me the iPad video at 24 fps conflicted with my iMac settings in iMovie (or it may have been iTunes) which was set up for 25 fps PAL. Is there a way to shoot 25 fps PAL on the iPad to avoid degrading quality when converting?

Try the Settings app.
Tap on the left under the video button.
Look for the heading TV Signal.
Change from NTSC to PAL.
Perhaps this should/might work.

No. The VGA adaptor is an analog connection and the only inputs are digital Mini Display / Thunderbolt ports depending on your model. It maybe possible with a conversion box of some sort or maybe trying an HDMI to mini display port cable ($44.95) and an iPad 2. The 27' should be able to be used as a second display but the 21 is not. If you have the iPad 2, pick up the cable and the HDMI adapter and try it out. If not, return the cables within two weeks.

Can't import iPad videos in Final Cut Pro X

Hello there, anyone knows if there are recent issues in importing iPad videos into Final Cut Pro X?
I follow the ordinary workflow, and it all seems ok but at the end of the importing process a "!" yellow triangle remains attached to the imported clip and this one can't be played.
Already tried to make a high quality conversionand/or a proxy, the conversion process seems to start but it doesn't go further than 0%.
Thanks in advcance for your help.
PS: the videos have been teaken with the "Video Pro" app an then exported to the iPad "film roll".
PPS: in the importing window the clips can be played normally.

Russ, I succeed in importing some files by transcoding them in a proxy one by one (that is not in a work queue). Some other files simply stops the rendering process and make it hang until the closing of FCPX. Thanks for your time.

You'd need something to redirect the VGA signal to a DisplayPort connector on the iMac. Your other option is VGA is easily adaptable to S-Video, though its resolution is not as great as VGA and using http://www.elgato.com/ 's hardware for that. A third one is using a Remote Desktop app for the iPad. Several exist.

What happed to the iPad video tutorials on Apple's website?

I can't locate any of the extensive video tutorials on iPad (or for much else for that matter) on Apple's website - did they remove them or put them in some incredibly secret place? They used to have them for most all of their products -- now it seems they are only available for software products.

I wish the ipad video player was the same as the iphone video player...

The ipad video player is not as good as the iphone video player.
I'm specifically referring to how it handles chapters and episode info.
1 - episode info
With the iphone, when I'm looking at the list of videos, in addition to the show title, it displays the season and episode #.
With the ipad, it only shows show title. And since episodes are for some reason sorted by show title, it's impossible to play the show back in episode # order, since it's not displayed...
2- chapters
With the iphone, when a video with chapter marks is being played back, as part of the play controls, there is a chapter option so you can see what and where the chapter marks are and can easily go to them directly.
With the ipad, this chapter option is not there. You can only get to a specific chapter by forwarding chapters one-by-one.
No idea why the two players can't have the same functionality.
Hopefully someone from apple can see this and consider it for a future update.
(is this the best way to get them info/suggestions for future updates???)

IPad Video App Subtitles Glitch

The Video app on the iPad seems to have an issue or two with soft subtitles.
First, the Video player disregards the size settings, or for some reason scales them down, so a subtitle track that's set to be 60 pixels high on a 640x480 video will clearly not be the same size as they are when the video is played in iTunes, it seems to be around half the size.
This affects the width the the subtitles as well. A particularly long subtitle, the sort that wraps to two lines in iTunes, simply gets cut off on the iPad, even though there's lots of room available with the smaller subtitles. It won't wrap subtitles to two lines either, just cut them off.
Finally, not a bug, but the behavior in Quicktime is to remember that a user has 'show subtitles' selected from video to video. iTunes and iPad Video both require that the subtitles be selected on every video. It would be nice if there was some universal toggle like there is in Quicktime.

There is a major problem with these subtitling circus which for me is very disapointing. It is totally not Apple. Apple was always exciding customer expectations. With subtitles they stoped halfway. Sometimes QT displays subtitles beautifully, iTunes a bit worse. Then Apple TV terrible. Along came iPad which subtitles handling is a joke. Major thing is that subtitles are in such a place in the screen that you need to decide if you want to watch movie or read subtitles. No, wait. No need for decision - they are so small you can not read them anyway. I am from Poland and I heavy depend on subtitles and Apple evendid not concider adding Polish language to subtitles selection. How far it can be from German to Polish. At least closer than to cyrilic. It is crucial they fix it asap. BTW i just typed that from my iPad, not spell check so sorry to all English native speakers. IPad Video app not sorting correctly

Long time reader, first time poster - but I cannot seem to find a resolution to my issue, I fail to see how this issue could go unresolved for as long as I have had it;
The iPad video App when streaming from a home shared iTunes account does not sort TV shows as per the TV Show / Season / Episode attributes in the metadata. Is there a fix for this other than re-entering the metadata to the Artist attribute - I have a moderately sized library and this would consume my attention for far too long, not to mention its double handling!!!
Surely the introduction of a sort function on iOS devices and Apple TV is not too much to expect.

Actually there is a fix, that I found from another thread. Plug in yor device to the computer as it's faster. Un synch all your music from the iPad, which will remove it from the Pad. When that's done, turn the music synch back on, putting your tunes back on the device.
The music library is corrupted and this will fix that. A regular synch will not work.

Ipad Video App don´t show 2 lines subtitles

I´m using homesharing to stream the movies i have in my itunes computer. i have many video files in Full HD
The problem only happen in the Ipad Video App, works fine in the Iphone Video App
The problem only happen with video files that have height of 1920x816 (I test with files with resolution 1920x1280, 1920x800, 1920,812, 1920x814, 1920x816, 1918x816, 1920,820, 1792x1080, 1920x1040)

UPDATE to this CURRENT LOCATION on iPad / iPhone / Find My iPhone issue -
I have a iPad that kept showing my OLD adress in Orlando Fl on BOTH google maps and Apple Maps, even after I moved up north to South Carolina. I tried everything. I then tried my FIND MY iPHONE on my Macbook Pro and same thing. Annoying.
This evening I set up my BACK TO MY MAC so i could acess my Time Capsule from work. After I set it up, and just for grins, i renewed the DHCP Lease while doing this. After the Time Capsule rebooted, my iPad displayed the correct location immediately. My macbook pro was still showing the OLD location in my FIND MY iPHONE. Did a restart and BAM, its all good.
Not sure if it was the renew or restart of the Airport Extreme Time Capsule.

IPad videos to TV problem

Hi all. I've purchased an Apple component AV cable in order to watch iPad videos through my TV. After connecting I get "video is appearing on TV" message on the iPad screen but no sound or image appears on the television. I should point out that while the TV isn't a new flatscreen type, it does have the option to connect component and composite. (component is usually what I watch my DVDs through). I'd appreciate some advice on what I'm doing wrong. If it helps the cable part number is MB128ZA/B. Thank you

if you made sure you selected the component as active input source
then I would troubleshoot by trying a friends tv to verify it's not a problem with your setup

Last night I downloaded flipboard and I messed up the window order (prompt should have been active but the app behind the alert prompt was actually active, really strange) and i count not use the touchscreen at all even when I left the app. I toggled the screen and it all came back.
