Unusual problem (inverted colours)

Right, so I got a macbook a few weeks ago and everything's been going fine... until today. I'm not quite sure what caused it (perhaps I've had it turned on too long, or because my cat lay on it for a while and pressed some keys...) but all the colours on my screen are inverted. Blue is orange, green is red and so on.
It's not just an appearance change (in the appearance change it still says "blue" eventhough most of it is orange) because everything is inverted. From the icons to the menu, from pictures to the little Apple logo on the top left. I doubt it's a hardware problem as the original Mac OSX loading screen is still blue. From the moment it loads Mac OSC, however, everything turns orange and black and such.
If anyone knows how to invert it back to the normal colors, I'd be most thankful.
PS the suspect:
http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/4615/laptop2ug7.png
well, at least I got a nice pic out of it?

why exactly does a mac have the function of inverting colours?
It's for people who have vision problems and have trouble reading black-on-white text. It's part of the Universal Access system preferences (and can be turned on and off there as well as the keyboard shortcut).

• Inverted Colours after converting images

Hey Guys,
i got a huge Problem. At my Office I have an Intel iMac 7.1. I have to convert .tiff-files into .Jpg and sometimes resize them into low resolution.
I'm using the Automator for it (Finder same Problem).
The converted Images are inverted. Funny thing is: If i put these images onto a Win PC, the files a normal, not inverted.
If I edit the converted images on the iMac again, they will displayed at the iMac normally again. However these files are inverted on a normal PC.
Do you understand me? I need to fix this bug, because i cannot work if there are 1. inverted colours in e.g. resized pictures and 2. i dont know if they have normal colours on a PC or not..
If someone of you could help me, it would be amazing..
While looking at goole, i just found one page where it says that this is an old bug from Mac OSX. But i dont have that prob at my Macbook and I never saw that somewhere..
Sorry for my mistakes, not my foreign language..

• 3000 C200 Monitor issue - Desktop displays inverted colours (like photo negatives)

Hi,
My LCD monitor is displaying EVERYTHING in inverted colours (desktop, websites, photos etc.)  It just started doing this earlier today when I moved the laptop from my desk to the couch.  Can someone tell me how I can fix this, or if there is a utility (for Windows XP) that enables my PC to invert colours (for the whole computer, not just for images).
I have adjusted display properties and checked High Contrast in Accessibility options.  I have also tried PowerStrip and different magnifiers, and I have checked that my video and adapter drivers are up to date.  I believe that this is a problem with the LCD screen and not with my settings.  If it is a physical problem with the monitor then my warranty has run out so I would appreciate it if you can recommend the correct parts to buy to fix this or possibly a tutorial to show me how to open the monitor and fix it myself.
Thanks.

Welcome to the forum, prohyster
Try downloading one of so called "LiveCD"-s, for example hiren's , or PartedMagic or another program that can use 32-bit colour in non-windows enviroment (Linux is acceptable also as non-windows enviroment ) and check whether the problem persists. If colours are normal, the problem is in drivers or registry tweak, thus haven't hear about such thing ever.
Another (simpliest) way is to take screenshot and e-mail it to someone that owns a normal-colour-displaying comp. If the screenshot is clear (colours are ok), then problem is in your LCD and you'll have to have a pleasant date with service-centre =)

As far as trying to power up your device, make sure it has a good charge and then hold the button on the top of the phone and the home button on the faceplate together until the apple appears on the screen.

• Gradient Problems with colours

Hi I am new to Illustrator (just bought CS5) and I am having trouble with the colours when using gradients (colours are generally duller as well) but when I make a gradient from red to black the computer automatically puts a grey inbetween, (photoshop has no problems the colours are clear and bright)  I recently did a tutorial http://veerle.duoh.com/design/article/illustrator_inset_effect_on_text_in_combination_with _clipping_mask (she had the same tutorial in photoshop, which worked great) but my colours in illustrator are having this grey issue and the image came out looking very dull.
Is there some file setting I may have changed to cause this?
Thank you

The color setup in AI is trying to simulate the way CMYK actually looks in print. Sometimes the simulated display goes overboard, and it's impractical to write you a textbook on the whole color management (color calibration) subject in a user forum. (Plus, replies in a user forum are as often wrong as right.) There is plenty of reading material out there for you on this. (Start with the Help files, as the Color Settings dialog suggests.)
When designing for CMYK print, work in a CMYK document. Switching color modes is bad practice, especially if you intend for your on-press values to actually be the values you specify in the document. For example:
1. Set up your red (100M, 100Y) to black (100K) grad.
2. Change Document Color Mode to RGB.
3. Change Document Color Mode to CMYK.
4. Look at what has happened to your original CMYK values.
The best way to work in CMYK is to have a basic understanding of CMYK and the real-world principles of process printing. For example, if you do as Jacob suggests, and make the black end of your grad also contain the "red" (100M, 100Y), you will have a 300% total ink coverage at that end of your grad. That may or may not be a problem, depending on the target printing environment.
Generally speaking, yes; CMYK print is almost always "dull" compared to viewing RGB on a monitor (and you are always viewing RGB on a monitor, even if it is shifted to simulate CMYK). This is true regardless of color calibration. Common sense goes a long way. Monitors glow; paper doesn't.
One of the most overlooked facts is that human vision is highly adaptive. Even in RGB, your monitor never displays anything even approaching a true black. Yet your eye nonetheless sees a dark rich black.
CMYK process, for example, is very poor at reproducing brilliant blues. Yet the combination of knowledgeable image color correction (as opposed to mere calibration), quality printing, and the adaptive nature of human vision can nonetheless result in printed blues that seem to "glow."
If you're designing for commercial print, you should seek to understand the process enough that you would be comfortable assigning colors while working on a grayscale monitor. Again, that comes from both study and real-world exposure. Actually visit the press room whenever you have the opportunity. Maybe even take a course in commercial repro at the local tech school. You can't really gain the understanding you need in a software user forum. This is a huge subject.

• Unusual problem using Arial Black font with #'s

We have encountered a rather unusual problem.
Recently one of our customers contacted us about a problem with their job. They used #'s in arial black and regular throughout their document. Everywhere the #'s were in Arial Black they came out looking like an entirely different font. All of the files that we have created from their document appear correctly. Even the proofs created from the files printed correctly. However at the point of Esko's Nexus program creating the tiff file to make the press plates we are getting the incorrect results. I have even created a new document using our fonts in multiple sizes and I am getting the same results. As you can see the rest of the text in the same font is imaging properly. It is only the #'s that are the problem.
This is a screen capture of the PDF I created:
This is a screen capture of the results from the plate tiff image:
I am positive that it is not an issue with Esko's Nexus software as I have recreated this text in Quark, Miccrosoft Word, and Microsoft Publisher and they all imaged properly.
I am only encountering this with Adobe software. I am getting the same results from both InDesign and Illustrator. I have run the file from multiple Macs with various OS systems and from a PC each with their own font sets. I have even run the file from all versions of InDesign that we own (CC2014, CC, CS6, CS5.5) and they ALL give me incorrect results. As you can see from the images above it is ONLY the # character in Arial Black that is a problem.
I'm at a loss as to how to solve this problem.

• Unusual problem with N95

Hello guys, as title says i have an unusual problem with my Nokia n95. • Unusual problem with NumPad

I have quite an unusual problem with my iMac and I'm hoping someone has the answer. I will do my best to explain what's going on.
I started using a new program called Blender, which is an open source 3D modeling suite. In it, there are hotkeys which are required to function the program, like, CONTROL + NUMPAD 1, 2, 3 and so on...
I have a full size keyboard with NUMPAD, so this is not a problem for me. However...
When I attempt to press CONTROL + NUMPAD 1 (for example), it does not trigger the correct function in Blender. Instead, it switches SPACES to the corresponding SPACE. So, if I press CONTROL + NUMPAD 3, it displays my THIRD SPACE.
This seemed simple enough to fix. I opened System Preferences, Keyboard, Keyboard Shortcuts and changed the hotkeys for SPACES to COMMAND, rather than CONTROL. However, this did not fix the problem entirely. Even though it managed to disable my top row of numbers as hotkeys for switching spaces, it did NOT change the NUMPAD functionality. If I hit CONTROL + NUMPAD 3, it STILL switched to my third space, despite me altering the hotkey to be COMMAND + #. It continues...
I didn't really need this functionality from SPACES so I decided to try disabling it altogether. Once again, I opened System Preferences, Keyboard, Keyboard Shortcuts but THIS time, I unchecked "Switch to Desktop 1,2,3,4" hotkeys so as to disable the funtionality entirely. Despite this, it STILL did not work. I was STILL able to press CONTROL + NUMPAD #, and switch to the corresponding SPACE. I restarted OS X hoping something might change but it did not. I CANNOT disable this functionality and it is hijacking the ability to operate the Blender program.
The problem gets stranger...
I ask my Fiance, who has an identical iMac AND keyboard, running OS X Lion just as I am to attempt to perform similar actions. She was NOT able to switch SPACES by pressing CONTROL + NUMPAD #. Ironically, under HER system preferences, the keyboard shortcuts were all enabled and defaulted to CONTROL + #, yet she could not duplicate my problem on her iMac. As you can imagine, I was getting quite confused at this point and very frustrated. We tried switching keyboards. Same thing. On my iMac, I cannot disable the SPACES hotkey CONTROL + NUMPAD # and on my Fiance's iMac, she can not ENABLE it.
In summary, whenever I press CONTROL + NUMPAD #, OS X switches to the corresponding SPACE. I've tried disabling the shortcuts under System Preferences but the problem persists. My Fiance has the exacty OPPOSITE problem and cannot enable the functionality. It's not the keyboard and we're running identical iMacs running OS X Lion. Any help would be INCREDIBLY appreciated! Thanks!

As a matter of fact, I do have a solution, at least, one that one my laptop.
First, a couple of trouble shooting steps:
Create a new user a log as the new user.  If the new user doesn't have they Control-Numpad issue, you are probably looking at a user preferences issue.
Start in safe mode (hold shift while booting).  Any number of extensions may map these keys for you (as a favor, of course)
That said, I suspect that this is a user preferences issue; such as it was for me.
The solution is to remove the symbolichotkeys property list file; it should be regenerated cleanly when you next log in.  The two files you need to remove are:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist.lockfile
I always suggest having a system backup before fiddling, and I moved the files to my desktop temporarily (just in case!) before rebooting, testing, and finally deleting them.
Here is some information on the files:
http://hintsforums.macworld.com/showthread.php?t=114785
Let me know if that solves your problem; it was a bear to track down.

• Unusual Problem in SAP Query

Hi Experts,
I am facing a very Unusual problem in during SAP Query Devlopment.
In Input screen I am taking value as User , which is coming from User02 table and field name is
Bname . In USR02 table Username is maintained boths as Numeric num ( like 1236533) and Username wise ( Like gd.anil etc).
But While running the query , Its execute only when giving the nUmeric Num , It wont executes if i give the name like gd.anil .
This gd.anil is also maintained in USr02 table .
Can anyone tell me why its happening.
Thanks .
Koro

If the user ID is actually stored as lower case, then it was entered directly or with a screen field that doesn't have a screen mask.  You are most likely using the DB field in your selection screen and it's being converted to upper case after entry but before selection.  Have you debugged the generated program?  You should see this in the query.

• Unusual Problem caused by/with flash?

An unusual problem recently developed from flash and cannot resolve. I am running windows XP service pack 3 and i have flash 10.1 running. The problem that i have run into is this, when i have the internet browser open and i leave it idle for 5 minutes a windows error message comes up that says:
Could not find file "Flash.ocx"
Prior to 8/10/2010 this never happened, additionally I have looked in the appropriate folders on my system and the program seem to be there. I have also checked the program with Adobe and there system says program is up to date and functioning properly on both internet browsers that I use which are: IE8 and Google Chrome. Can anyone help to identify this problem as i am unsure of what steps to take to correct this issue and Microsoft has become completely useless.

Hi, I would not suggest a System Restore, especially if you have all Flash Player files and the SWO correctly Installed.
There could be another reason if you continue to get that message. System Restore is not a "fix" per se, it is there for your Windows Operating System in case of failure. I know people use it for other reasons, but just speaking for myself, I never have. I just research and find out the solution to whatever issue I may have at the time.
Any add on in your IE browser from whatever source can conflict with the browser, Flash Player (the SWO ActiveX Control) or other add ons. Especially any Anti-Virus program add ons. So you may want to check those to see if that is happening. Toolbars and their browser add ons also.
Go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash  Open Flash and post back all files listed there just to make sure they are correct.
Thanks,

• Unusual problem, my mail in inbox dissapears!

Hi,
Just got an new Mac Mini. Imported everything automatically from my old G4 onto it. But....
My Mail Inbox is acting strange. ALL THE OTHE MAILBOXES ARE FINE, but the inbox shows I only have 91 messages when I used to have around 1000!!
On top of this, a random selction of messages in (and only in) the inbox don't display and instead show in italics something along the lines of "message cannot be displayed as it cannot be downloaded until account is taken online" or something along those lines.
The thing is, the account IS online and is working fine in all other aspecs. It is a POP3 account.
I have tried re-importing manually. No luck.
ANY IDEAS ANYONE? I NEED MY MAIL BACK!!!!
Thanks

Hi RedHavoc.
Not sure what makes you think this is an unusual problem. Actually, it's quite common. The conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken. Take a look at the following thread to better understand the problem:
Help! "You need to take this account online in order to download it."
In particular, you may want to take a look at the following article (also referenced in that thread) to learn what you might have done before upgrading to minimize the risk of this happening, and what you may do after fixing the problem to avoid similar issues from happening in the future. DON'T do now what the article suggests, though, as that would make things worse in the current situation:
Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
More specifically, if this is a POP account, the following procedure should allow you to fix the Inbox problems:
1. Quit Mail.
2. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to fix the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
3. Create a new folder on the Desktop and name it however you wish (e.g. Inbox Old). It doesn't need to have an .mbox extension.
4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/.
5. Move the files mbox and Incoming_Mail out of INBOX.mbox, into the Inbox Old folder just created on the Desktop. These files contain all the messages that were in the mailbox before the upgrade to Tiger, and maybe even some messages that had been deleted. mbox is the most important. Incoming_Mail may or may not be present.
6. Move any strangely-named Messages-XXXXXX folder to the Desktop (not into the Inbox Old folder). These folders are to be deleted after fixing the problem. They are temporary folders created during an import or an indexing process, and Mail should have deleted them when done. Their presence is a clear indication that something didn't work as expected. If you've been using Mail after the conversion and have already tried to fix the problem by rebuilding the mailbox or something like that, they might contain messages that are neither in Messages proper nor in the mbox file, so keep them around until the problem is fixed.
7. Move everything else within INBOX.mbox, except the Messages folder, to the Trash.
The result of the above should be that INBOX.mbox contains the proper Messages folder only, and the Inbox Old folder on the Desktop contains the mbox and Incoming_Mail (if it exists) files only. Now, proceed as follows:
8. Open Mail.
9. The account's Inbox should properly display in Mail as many messages as *.emlx files are in ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/Messages/. If that's not the case, select the mailbox in Mail and do Mailbox > Rebuild.
10. In Mail, do File > Import Mailboxes, choose Other as the data format, and follow the instructions to import the Inbox Old folder that's on the Desktop. Do with the imported mail whatever you wish. You may move to the account's Inbox the messages that Mail failed to convert properly, and delete those that did get through and, hence, are duplicates now.
The following collection of AppleScripts has a Remove Duplicates script that can be useful for removing duplicate messages:
http://homepage.mac.com/aamann/Mail_Scripts.html
If all is well and you're not missing anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
Ask for any clarifications or if you need further assistance.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user's home folder.
