Unwanted text outline colour in highlighted button state

Hi DVDSP geniuses and much thanks in advance!
I'm getting unwanted colour at the edges of text in buttons in selected and activated states. I'm using a non-layered menu and a greyscale jpeg for background, a greyscale jpeg for overlay with simple colours.
The overlay is black text on white and I'm creating buttons from the text. In the selected and activated states for buttons unwanted, pixelated outlines appear on the edges of the text, often in a colour I haven't selected for any of these states.
Can anyone help please?
Many thanks

I usually prefer picts or tifs for overlays. Are the pixels that you are seeing jaggedy edge types text edges or more like you are getting a glow? The edge of text can be a bear, but a drop shawod or stroke may help. (Did you do this in Photoshop) Also some text types/colors are more prone to issue (smaller fonts).
As to the color, did you somehow assign a different map set to the buttons? You can have three sets on a menu and if somehow adjusted a set for a button it could happen....(are the colors consistent on the menus, meaning it is always red or blue, let's say, on the menu where you expected yellow? (used three colors in case three sets snuck in.)

  • Reset Highlight Button State

    Hi,
    When I create a button from text, it will automatically provide a highlight when it is selected.
    I've created the button, so that when it is selected (the button will highlight itself), it will navigate to another page/state. But when I return to that state via a "back" button, the button I originally pressed is stayed highlighted.
    How do I reset that button (to it's normal state), when the button is pressed.
    This problem also applies to my data lists.
    Just a note, I'm NOT using the Wireframe Components that are provided by Catalyst (the buttons they have also have a mouse down state).
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Baller,
    You have two options:
    1) If you only want the button to look selected while the mouse is down, you should convert your artwork to a Button component and edit the Down state. You can do this by selecting the artwork, choosing "Convert Artwork to Component > Button" in the HUD, and then click "Down" in the HUD. Now you're editing the Button's Down state.
    2) If you are using a custom component as your "Button", if you go to the original state and set the custom component's state in the Properties panel, it will be restored to this state every time you go back to the original state.
    Good luck,
    -Adam

  • Highlighting button and text when scrolled over

    Hello,
    I have a menu that I wouldlike the four buttons to be highlighted when scrolled over wiht the navigator. I a way that only one shall be highlighted then you press down and the next will become highlighted, leaving the other one with no highlight. Any help?

    In this case you would need to use a highlight layer created in an image app like Photoshop. The background image for the menu would not contain any text, just a shape (or whatever) to indicate to the viewer there is a button there. The overlay would then contain the text to appear within the button area.
    You would create this in gray scale, and use the colour mapping tools within DVDSP to allocate the desired colours for the selected and activated states.
    In this way, only the background area will show when the button is not selected (i.e. is in the 'normal' state), but clicking on (or mousing over) the buttons will reveal the text in the highlight layer.

    Hi all
    When i do compare for old and new file, unwanted text are highlighting in compare document, becuase text are same but it indicates in compare. I am using Acrobat professioanl 8.1.3.
    How this happened?

    You may want to consider an upgrade to the current version of Acrobat. There were substantial improvements to the Compare feature in Acrobat 9 and later. (There won't be any upgrades to Acrobat Professional 8.)

  • Highlight Buttons in DVDSP

    I create a button and select a highlight color for it, but when the DVD burns I cannot see which button I am selecting when played in my DVD player. Pleae help!

    OK - let's go through it a step at a time...
    You have created a button by dragging out a rectangle in the menu editor. Click on the button once and look in the property inspector under the 'Style' tab. In the middle, look for the Shape drop down and navigate through to whatever shape you want to use. For simplicity, select something like 'L shape highlight', which will create an underline and left hand upstand for whatever is on the background image.
    Now click on the 'colours' tab and select 'simple' at the top. You should then see three sliders, one for 'Normal' one for 'Selected' and one for 'Activated' button states.
    Leave the 'Normal' one set to 0 opacity (regardless of the colour in the box). This means that nothing will show up at all when the button is not selected or activated - so just whatever is on the background at that point will show through.
    Move the 'Selected' slider to full opacity (15) and set the colour to what you want. It defaults to yellow, and I like to change that to red, personally. With this in place the button will then get a red underline when it is selected in your DVD player. You can check this by using the middle of the three buttons underneath the menu editor window that allow you to show the different button states... make sure that you haev a button clicked on in the editor first (i.e. has drag handles around it).
    Now change the colour in the 'Activated' slider to be yellow, and set the opacity to 15 as well. This will make the button highlight change colour momentarily when a user activates it. If the selected colour is red, using something diferent (like yellow) allows you to see that the button has indeed been activated. Use the three buttons under the menu editor now and switch between the different states - you should see the highlight appear and change colour.
    Now, repeat the process for every button that you have got on the menu, then go into the 'settings' drop down box and click on the text that reads 'Auto Assign Buttons now' (if it isn't already assigning the navigation). If you click on a button and then go into the 'Advanced' tab of the property inspector you should see which button the user will go to if they press a directional arrow on their remote control.
    Finally, click on the background, away from any shapes, buttons or drop zones, or click on the menu icon in the outline view, then check the property inspector again - it should now show the options for the menu. Click on the 'Menu' tab and check the setting for the default button. It should say button 1 (if you didn't name the buttons as you went along), or whatever the name is of the first button that you created. This button will be the one highlighted in the 'selected' state when the menu plays.
    That should be it.
    If you do decide to create an overlay layer, all you do is create the background image in Photoshop (or whatever) and save it as a .pict file (don't use JPEG). You then add a layer and on that draw only the highlight shapes that you want - in our example you would simply draw a few lines to appear under the text on the background layer.
    Hide the background so that just the highlight lines are showing and then convert this to grayscale. Export that as a .pict image as well, then import both to DVDSP. Set one as the menu background, one as the overlay and then proceed as above but don't use a shape... draw out the rectangles around the button text and you should see the highlight shapes appear. Set the colours for the states as before.
    Lastly, don't forget to assign the button targets no matter which method you choose!

  • Change button state from another button

    From reading some other posts it would seem that you can only create rectangular button outlines (not buttons but the outlines you drag out in DVDSP to definte your button area).
    Well I have a menu design that has buttons that run at an angle across the page, and they are very close together, so if I use a single rectangular outline it will cover more than one button.
    So, I want to create several small button outlines to cover my button area, but I'd like to have it so that when a button is in a "Selected" state it automatically makes another button "selected" and it is this button that has a overlay highlight that will inidcate what the user is selecting.
    So can a button be moused over and automatically "select" another button.
    (When I say "select" I do NOT mean activated - I don't want to mouseover a button and another button get activated and the user gets taken to the buttons target).
    I also don't want to use a layed PSD file as I don't really like the delay you get.
    I hope this makes sense. If not, I can make some images to show what I mean.
    Thanks in advance

    Sorry Rob - I don't think you'll be able to do that... a DVD button isn't able to be linked to a different button so that it can set it to be selected. The buttons are not that 'intelligent', I'm afraid.
    From what you say you can either use very small buttons with a simple highlight to the side of the text on the back drop, or (sadly) re-do the menu bakground to accommodate the nature of the button rectangles.

  • Highlight button in preview is not working...

    Hi, so this morning I did my software update for the OS X Yosemite, and when I took a screenshot of a picture, and I wanted to add text but the 'highlight' button is not working, please help! I'm on my macbook pro.

    Hi coralie137,
    I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact situation you are describing. If you are talking about annotating images/screenshots in the Preview application in Yosemite, you may find the information and steps outlined in the following article helpful:

  • How to do a text matching test on a button?

    I am trying to do a text matching test on a button for example 'Submit", but when I try to highlight it, it clicks the button, which is undesirable in my scenario.
    How could I do a text matching test on this button?

    I think you could do a number of things. The first is to put the Text Matching test on after the fact using the raw html. Another option is to use an object test in OpenScript where you just mouse over the element and hit f10 then choose the proper attribute to build a test case around. If all that fails then take advantage of the behavior and use the path captured for the event to build the test case after the fact and just delete the event afterward.

  • Radio button state on region load...

    Is there a way to set the radio button state (click event) on a region load? The default value of 0 (read-only) works when clicked, but doesn't when the page initially loads, and it's like the button click event needs to take place at the region load time. The values are 1 and 0 set statically if that matters, and the hidden value does not get changed when the radio button with the value of 1 is selected.
    The button makes the button visible when 'edit' is selected and the button disappears when 'read-only' is selected which is the expected behavior.
    I do have a condition on the 'save' button for the value to not be zero which is based on the value from the radio button.
    My gut says it'll be a region header attribute or Java Script sort of thing and I've not found anything so far, and I'm hoping there's an Apex guru out there that has a recommendation.
    Thanks in advance!
    Matt

    I used some source I found on Denes' web site and added the call, but it didn't yield the result I was hoping for.
    <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
    $s('P8_RADIO_BUTTON','0');
    function f_showhideButtonRadio(pThis, pValue)
    {     var show_or_hide = html_RadioValue(pValue);
    if (show_or_hide == 0)
    {html_HideElement(pThis);}
    else
    {html_ShowElement(pThis);}
    function f_showhideButtonSelect(pThis, pValue)
    {     var show_or_hide = $x(pValue).value;
    if (show_or_hide == 0)
    {html_HideElement(pThis);}
    else
    {html_ShowElement(pThis);}
    </script>
    I'm quite new to the Java Script in Apex, so if I hosed this up, please let me know. Also, does that set the click event on or does that just set the value? The reason I ask is with a 0 or 1 it yielded the same result.
    Thanks!

  • Newbie having trouble with template highlight (button)

    Stupid question I'm sure, but for the life of me I can't figure it out:
    When using a template, if I change anything at all about the TYPE related to a button, or the size of the button/text group, the corresponding HIGHLIGHT gets freaky. I can't for the life of me figure out how to control where that highlight appears, or even it's size, etc. So I have these beautiful DVD menus that are marred by weird highlight bars--some of them run across two buttons.
    (Yes, I figured out how to make the highlights invisible, but that defeats the whole point of course.)
    Hope my question wasn't confusing. Any help would be wildly appreciated. Thanks...

    Okay, let me pose a theory: Is it possible my installation is having trouble, in other words is what I'm seeing NOT normal?
    Can anyone verify (it would only take a few minutes) my findings? Here are the steps: Create a brand-new project using (just to make sure we're on the same page) the Apple template called "Wedding Classical Index." Next, resize any one of the main elements (labeled "button 1," etc.). OR, change the text to two words, or modify the text size/font. When finished, hit the Simulate button and mouse over the button you modified.
    Does the highlight look normal, e.g., underneath the text, etc., or has it moved to the side of the text, or changed into a vertical line, or worse?
    I just want to verify that my installation isn't being screwy. Thanks to the kind soul who takes a minute to help me out with this so I can move on...

  • Change nav button state when using SSI

    I am going to be redesigning a website soon and I am going to use SSI's.  Is there a way to change the state of the nav button in relation to the page that is being viewed if the nav bar is in the SSI?  If not, what is the best way to achieve this?
    I was thinking that the pages specific to the nav buttons (Home, Contact, etc) can not have the nav bar in the SSI and it must be in the main file.  If the design is changed in the future the pages containing specific nav button states must be changed individually.
    Thanks for any input.

        if(a.href == window.location){
            Spry.Utils.addClassName(node,"activeMenuItem");
    This function checks the list items (li) within div ID MenuBar1 and retrieves the the link within the anchor (a) element. If the link (a.href) is the same as the URL (window.location) then add a class called activeMenuItem to the list item.
    Spry.Utils.addLoadListener(InitPage);
    When the page loads, this will trigger the function
    .activeMenuItem a {
        background:#a59a84 !important;
        color:#ffffff !important;
    We need to add style rules for the anchor element within the list item with the class of activeMenuItem.

  • How would I create buttons states for MCs I am creating abstract MCs

    I am creating a generic website that would have abstract MCs that would load jpg or TXT fields for the user interface to allow for fast updates to the site. click insert/new symbol, tick movieclip, assign a name, tick export for actionscript and in the class textfield enter a name (say ButtonClass) and click ok.
    attached to the first frame of your new movieclip, type stop() in the actions panel.  put whatever graphic you want on-stage for your button's up stage.  create another keyframe, label it "over" and put whatever graphic you want for button's over state on-stage.
    in a layer above those graphics, you'll probably want to add a dynamic textfield so each of your buttons can have different text.  assign the textfield and instance name (say tf) and extend its timeline to the last frame of your movieclip button.
    then when you want to create a button, on your timeline you can use:
    var b:ButtonClass=new ButtonClass();  // these two lines need to be entered for each button
    buttonhandlerF(b,someX,someY);
    //-------code between dotted lines only needs to be entered once no matter how many buttons you add --------------------
    function buttonhandlerF(b:ButtonClass,x:Number,y:Number){
    b.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER,overF);
    b.addEventListener(MouseEVent.MOUSE_OUT,outF);
    b.x=x
    b.y=y
    addChild(b);
    function overF(e:MouseEvent){
    e.currentTarget.gotoAndStop("over");
    function outF(e:MouseEvent){
    e.currentTarget.gotoAndStop(1);
    //-------code between dotted lines only needs to be entered once --------------------
    // you'll also want to create a click listener and listener function
    the code between the dotted lines is amenable to being added to a ButtonClass.as class file if want to expand your capabilities.

  • Sprite and button state support are essential

    Looking to the future (and you probably have something planned), items like sprites and button states are absolutely essential for a productive PSD > HTML workflow.
    Photoshop's never been an ideal web design tool, other than for rough mockups, mainly because of that important missing functionality. Being able to identify and extract button states in some way becomes pretty important as a differentiator for Parfait, I think, because it would eliminate one of the real pain points of a Photoshop > Web workflow.

    Actually, sprites are problematic for any Photoshop workflow at present, other than creating them as separate files. Absent an unlinked layer mask and setting layer comps for each state (and even that is a poor substitute), there's just no way to represent them in a page mockup. Button states using individual layer groups or changing layer styles are doable in a page mockup, but one has to accept the inefficiency of multiple image files at load time.
    I have only once used a Ps mockup to create a site, and only because the client provided their preferred design as a set of page-jpegs and a PSD, but all I used of those files was a header image and their text. I built everything else directly in the Dreamweaver code editor because it was so much faster. A button that's just text with a border around the <a> tag and uses changing text and background colors for the hover, active and visited states is a few seconds work building the class in CSS. Even with a background sprite rather than a color change, it's pretty trivial.
    So I appreciate that none of this is non-trivial to implement.

  • Initial button state in motion menu

    I have a 5 sec motion menu and I want the active button state to delay highlight until the motion is done. I did not set a default button hoping it wouldn't select while playing but that didn't work. Is there a work around?

    I just did this in a recent project. You have to use a menu overlay, then set the motion menu’s loop point at 5 seconds. The buttons will be invisible until you hit the loop point. The menu will continue to loop, but won’t include the first five seconds.
    I could not get it to work with DVDSP’s built-in buttons.
