Update Re: Using Canon LiDE 210 with OS X 1.6.8

Hello,
I've read some older threads regarding this discussion but they must be closed since I couldn't add a comment.  So, I thought it would be best to open a new one.  I apologize if I'm treading old ground.
Here's my setup:  MacBook Pro (mid-2010), Mac OS X v10.6.8 Snow Leopard, Safari 5.1.2.  I needed a basic scanner, did research and everything looked good, so I bought a Canon CanoScan LiDE 210 scanner.  All I need is to be able to scan documents (minimal graphics) to the MacBook, preferably in PDF format.  Not really interested in scanning photos etc.
I just want to be careful and would like some clarification, please.  So regarding installation, I've gotten three "recommendations/methods":
1) With the purchased Scanner, included was installation CD with instructions.
2) Emailed Canon Support and was told to download the latest driver and the MP Navigator EX from their website instead.
3) Read and referenced Apple Support Article HT3669 , which has been updated recently - February 15th, 2012.
Now, step #3 is my preferred selection, since it comes from Apple Software Update and the article lists the LiDE 210 as supported.
I also noticed on the other thread (that I could not comment on), that PAHU commented:
I have the LiDE200 and it works fine with Image Capture and Preview. The driver was included with one of the Canon updates hosted via Apple and part of Software Update. Checking the [latest Canon update|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#canon] hosted by Apple, the LiDE210 and LiDE700F are both included as supported scanners.
This sounds exactly what I want to do for installation and use (Image Capture and Preview).
So before mucking up anything, if possible, could someone please confirm the step #3 approach and the supporting comments. (PAHU ?!  ).
The way it appears, step #3 seems like minimal hassle, straightforward, and the best way to go.  Also, do I really need this "MP Navigator EX", if I have Image Capture and Preview?  I would prefer to avoid as much third party SW as possible.
I apologize for the lengthy post and thanks in advance for the help!

Nice to read that it is all working. In response to the questions;

I would love to have Adobe Acrobat Pro but funds won't allow it.  You mentioned TWAIN based (Adobe Acrobat Pro) and making PDF's.  What is the difference in creating a scanned PDF file via Image Capture vs creating one with Adobe Acrobat Pro?  Or another way to ask is, what does the TWAIN driver do that the ICA doesn't?  I googled TWAIN but got lost pretty quick.  Sorry if that is a dumb question...
A PDF created by Image Capture is not a text searchable PDF. It is basically an image file (it is usually a TIFF with a Postscript header). So if you wanted to locate some line of text on the page, you would not have the ability to do so. In contrast, a PDF created in Acrobat will be text searchable, as the software will do character recognition (aka OCR). So if you wanted the means to locate content within each document, then you should OCR the scanned document. An Acrobat Pro will do this on the fly as you scan the document. Using Image Capture, you would have to scan the document first and then use some OCR package to convert the scanned image.
For the record, MP Navigator has an OCR function, but it is not as accurate as Acrobat Pro's version.

One last question (I think - ).  I'm still running Snow Leopard OS X v10.6.8. but probably will go to Lion soon.  It looks like the Apple Support Doc says that the ICA driver I got through SW update will work with Lion OS X v10.7, so will the driver "disappear" when I do the Lion upgrade, causing me to have to setup the scanner again?
The driver won't disappear if you upgrade. The ICA driver package available from Apple is for 10.6 and 10.7. But it is sometimes advisable to remove the printers and scanner in 10.6 before you upgrade, or at least ensure you have the latest versions available before the 10.7 update. Given that you have just done this installation then you have the latest drivers so there should be no issue with the scanner after the Lion update.

  • Problems with using Canon LiDE 210 and OSX 10.7.4

I am getting nowhere with installing the Canon LiDE 210 scanner software on my 2010 MBP. All I get when I try to scan is "insufficient memory". I can scan using Image Capture and with the trial VueScan software so the problem looks as if it is something to do with the Canon software or the way that it installs on the MBP. Has anyone else had a similar problem or can anyone suggest a fix? Many thanks

Hellooo, I realise this thread is a year old and yet I'm having some real difficulty, hopefully this will fall on someones ears...
Firstly I have a mac mini bought recently and running on Mountain Lion 10.8.3 I tried downloading what is apparently the most up to date drvier and mp navigator for use with the CanoScan LiDE 210 meaning, that both the driver and mp navigator are compatible with Mountain Lion. Here is the following link I used that was forwarded to me by Canon:
    http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/contents/ASIA/EN/0100434402.html
    http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/contents/ASIA/EN/0200153502.html
I install both of the downloads, plug in the scanner, and nothing... no noise, no beep nothing to say that it is on. I try and open the scanner through system preferences-printer/scanner-canoscan icon yet I am then presented with the message; "failed to open a session on this device"
Strange, I call canon back and they do not know what else to suggest apart from all the usual trouble shooting, the type that is very patronising and annoying... did you click the icon and press scan, did you click the install button after downloading the software... the sort of thing that might otherwise result in the beating, of ones own face with the phone
At the end of this call, and after forwarding me a couple more useless links to unworkable downloads they say that it must be the product, and that I should contact the seller for a replacement.
So I do, I contact Amazon, I get my replacement and voila, exactly the same problem.
I even try getting it going using my mbp which is on snow leopard, which means I can use the installation disc that it is packed with it, it makes a noise, it sounds like its turning on but then when I click "open scanner" ... nothing, no option to scan, no acknowledgement of the device other than the icon itself in system preferences.
Does anyone have any experience of this issue, does anyone know how I might resolve it?
    Many thanks,
    Jeff

  • Canon lide 210 not recognized in yosemite. Latest driver downloaded

Since upgrading from Mavericks to Yosemite (10.10.1) I have lost capability with my Canon Lide 210 scanner and Jam XT bluetooth wireless speaker.
I have downloaded and installed the latest Canon driver to no avail. Any ideas? Both were working great before I upgraded to Yosemite.

The scanner driver file is installed in HD > Library > Image Capture > TWAIN Data Sources. Here you will see the LiDE210.ds file. This package file contains information used by the scanner and removing the scanner entry in Print & Scan does not remove this file. You could trash this file (make sure you remove the entry from Print & Scan first) and then run the v17.7.1 scanner driver installer again.
If MP Navigator still fails it could actually be this application rather than the scanner driver at fault. Note that Image Capture uses a different driver called an ICA. So to test that the TWAIN scanner driver is okay you would need a TWAIN compatible application. And one such application is VueScan. Install this and see if you can scan without any error. If you can then it indicates the issue is with MP Navigator. If VueScan also fails then you do have a scanner driver issue.

  • Canon LiDE 210 insufficient memory with Lion

My LiDE 210 scanner which has worked in the past using OSX10.7 but it now says "insufficient memory" each time I launch MP Navigator EX 4.0.
Canon advised me to open MP Navigator and select 'View and Use', where it says 'Specify the scanned location', select a different scanner location to see if this resolves the issue. I am unable to do this as I get the "insufficient memory" message immediately I double click on the Canon software. If this did not resolve the issue, they recommended uninstalling and re-installing the latest drivers, which I have done but with no solution to the problem. I haved repaired permissions, checked printers in the library and there does not seem to be anything missing or conflicting. I cannot find any reference to TWAIN in the Library and finally the basic scanner functions are available using Image Capture.
    Any ideas most welcome. Thanks

  • Use Canon Powershot G6 with Photo Booth?

I have a brand new Mac Pro running OS 10.5.7 with photo booth, but no isight camera. I'd like to use my Canon Powershot G6 with Photo Booth, but when I plug in my camera, via USB cable, and launch Photo Booth, there is just a blank picture window.
I'd be very grateful for any suggestions of how to make this work (if possible) or where I might look for a solution.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi,
In Many apps that can access cameras it is about the resolution the software that the app restricts the camera to, rather than the abilities of the camera.
You may find that some cameras such as those that connect by Firewire may produce a more pleasing picture rather than being at a different resolution.
There is not much difference in External USB cameras over the Internal one on those Macs that have Internal iSights.
iGlasses is cheap and works for a7 day trial before you have to commit yourself and can access some features and tweak the video from Web cams in various Apps

  • PSCS6 no longer recognizes my CR2 files and will not open. Using Canon 5DMark III with updated Camera Raw . It has worked before but now won't open files from this camera.

I have been able to open files from this camera before but still checked for latest Camera Raw download. Still won't open files from this camera. Opens files from my 60D just fine. I downloaded the latest and it has worked before. What the heck is going on?

Glad to be of help. But I'm curious (not critical of what you are doing) to know why so many people like to use Nikon Transfer to transfer their files to the computer. It is still necessary to import them into Lightroom. And, from my perspective, it seems simpler and maybe even a little quicker to use the Lightroom import dialog. I have Nikon cameras, and have never even installed the Nikon Transfer utility. What is so unique about it?

  • Using Canon Lide 80; it *is* possible

    Hi guys.
A heads up for owners of Canon's Lide 80 scanner. While Canon no longer supports it for 10.6 there is a way to make it work thanks to this tip over at Macdiddy: http://macdiddy.com/archives/148
You'll need Rosetta installed as both driver and Toolbox are PPC-only.
In case you use Hamrick's Vuescan instead of Canon's sub-par Toolbox make sure you have it open using Rosetta (toggle it in VS' Get Info).
    Hope this helps

It is possible to create each box with enum. Click here http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=361259#M361259 as it is discussed before.

  • Canon LiDE 80 with OSX Mavericks?

Does anyone have this scanner working in mavericks? I seen some people had success in OSX 10.9. But I downloaded the most current drivers they had (10.4 I believe) and when I try to install / run it I am greeted with the error message
'You can’t open the application “ScanGear CS Installer” because it may be damaged or incomplete.'
Also, it does not show up when I click Printers and Scanners in the System Preferences, however, it is showing up as a USB device being connected.
    Any ideas? Thanks much!

    Try this driver: http://www.hamrick.com
It's not free, but you can test it before you buy it. I have had to use vuescan with my Canon scanner since OS 10.7

  • Has any body tried using canon printer driver with Mac OS X v10.7. I just bought a new printer only finding out that I cannot use it. Any suggestions. Thanks

I just bought a canon pixma iX6540 printer only to find out that the driver is not supported. I am using Mac OS X v10.7. Can someone help please. Thanks

Although it mentions OS 10.6 on the link, have you tried downloading the latest drivers - if you haven't already - from the Apple Support site, maybe they'll work:

  • Has anyone used canon AVCHD camcorders with cs4?

Im considering getting a Canon HF10 camcorder, and want to know if anyones run into any problems editing with this, or any canon AVCHD camcorders. I hope it works well, because my only other options are ulead and pinnacle (and of course avid, sigh) and those options are pretty bleak.

I have the HF11 and love it...however editing is painful ( and I have a quad core Q9650 w 8GB). I also have a Canon HDV HV30 and like it also, they each have their pro's can con's, but for the ability to just pick it up and go it is hard to beat. Until Adobe can support the higher bit rates (i.e. above 17MB/sec) I am converting mine into cineform lossless codec(Please note they don't have a fully functional CS4 version yet, but it is supposed to be out soon).

  • I could not print using Canon MF8300C Series with Yosemite 10.10.1

After download and installing, I am not able to print using MF8300C Series. Help anyone?

So assuming that you have downloaded and installed the Canon MF Driver v10.3.0, have you been able to add the printer in Printers & Scanners? And if yes, does this printer go through the motions as if it is going to print that then fails?

  • Using Canon LBP7200Cdn (networked) with Lion

After upgrading to Lion, I deleted the printer, downloaded Canon's new driver (3.36), uninstalled previous drivers, installed 3.36, and registered the printer. During registration I got the error message: "Unable to verify the printer on your network."
As instructions said, I continued, printer was created. However, no program I've tried (Preview, Word, browsers) will print. I always get the error message "/Library/Printers/Canon/CUPSCAPT/Bins/capdftopdl failed".
I've tried several times, rebooted & tried again, etc. Can anybody (PAHU?) see where I might be missing something?

The status of the printer and subsequent warning message will be determined and generated by the 'CAPT Statusmonitor for Macintosh' utility. I am curious to see what it is showing on Lion compared to Snow Leopard. So the following details the procedure for opening the utility on both Lion and SL.
Open Print & Fax and select the LBP7200.
Open Options & Supplies and select the Utility tab. Then click Open Printer Utility.
This opens the CAPT Statusmonitor utility. In the menubar of this utility you will see the Options menu. Opne this menu and then select Consumables/Counters. Does the Lion connection show the same as the Snow Leopard?
Still in this utility there is another setting which we can disable to see if that helps to get Lion printing. So still in the 'CAPT Statusmonitor for Macintosh' utility press the Options menu again but this time select Device Settings then Warning Display Settings. In the new window disable the 'Display Toner Cartridge Replacement Notice' checkbox and then press OK. You will then need to power the LBP off for ten seconds and then back on for the setting to take effect. Now try printing from Lion again.

  • Canon Scanner LIDE 210

I have been using a Canon  LIDE 210 scanner with no trouble for some time.  Now sometimes the scanner light does not light up and I get several dark, or black, pages in my scans. I have re installed the software but it still happens
If I scan 5 or 6 pages I might get 2 good ones and the others black.
Scanner is about 4 years old.  Do I need a new scanner ?

This topic is far from "Windows 7 Hardware Compatibility " topic, because your scanner has worked for some time.
I am afraid the you have reached the end of life of your scanner and new scanner is an only option here. Hope this statement is not true one.
