"Update server not responding" when trying to update Acrobat 9 Pro

I just installed Acrobat 9 Pro on my desktop computer and on my laptop. I was able to download and install the latest updates to the copy on my desktop computer (so that it is now version 9.3.0), using Help>Check for Updates.
When I try the same command on my laptop, I get and error message that states "The update server is not responding, which means it may be offline at the moment, or the Internet or firlewall settings may be incorrect. Please try again later." I tried several times yesterday and today with the same error. The message pops up immediatley; it doesn't even seem to actually try to connect.
I disabled my firewall and antivirus software and still get the same result. I uninstalled then reinstalled Acrobat and still get the same result.
I looked online at Adobe.com to see about downloading and installing the updates manually, but it's difficult for me to tell which updates I need. Some are for other languages and some are for 64-bit but I have Windows 7 32-bit.
A call to tech support was no help. The agent seemed to think because I installed verison 9.0 that I only needed the one English update listed on the download page under 9.0, and not any of the later updates. . . And he said that Adobe recommends manually installing updates from Adobe.com rather than using the Check for Updates command (?!).
Anyway, does anyone know what might be causing this problem with the adobe updater? Maybe I need to reinstall the updater (where do I find it?).
OR
Can someone tell me which of the updates listed on the Acrobat dowload page I should manually install to bring my product up to date?
[Running Windows 7 32-bit on both machines]
Thanks.

Hi,
Which version of Acrobat do you have ?
(Launch Acrobat and Go to Acrobat->About Adobe Acrobat menu item and check the version )
Also, can you ping following urls ?
armmf.adobe.com
armdl.adobe.com
ardownload.adobe.com
Are these urls reachable ?
Also, you can check the contents of host file /etc/defaults/host to see that none of the ips are redirected.
One more thing that you could try:
If you have firewall on, could you please disable the firewall and then try the update. Does it works now ?

You're saying that there is an issue when trying to use Software Update to get to 10.6.8, correct? An alternate way to apply that update is to download the 10.6.8 update from the Apple download site.
Before running it, bring up Disk Utility, repair permissions, apply the update, and repair permissions again when done. With that, you can now install iTunes 7.

After downloading for 40+ minutes, it went into step 1 and came back with "The update was not successful".  I have it connected via network cable and not wi-fi.  Is there another way to update that will get me from 5.0.2 (4250) to version 5.1?

    Hi,
    same storry here.
I was renting a movie yesterday with  my iPad2 (iOS 5.1) - wanted to AirPlay the video stream from iPad 2 to AppleTV 2 (has the latested OS installed on it) - AppleTV says "not authorized"...
Tried also everything (e. g. reconnected AppleTV to my ITunes-account..) - nothing worked.
I AirPlayed a lot of rented movies from ITunes-store over my iPad2 to my AppleTV 2 in the past without any problems....
I have no idear why this happens now...

macbook pro - iPhoto keep prompting to update after Yosemite update. Error message when trying to update -This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.

I only have 1 apple ID and the same was used to set up this early 2011 macbook pro and iPhoto app. I don't want to loose out on any photos. I tried logging out of app store and back in but no luck. PLEEAASEE HELPP!!!
This problem has been reported by quite a few forum members, who skipped the update to iPhoto 9.5.1 while running Mavericks. In that case try to purchase iPhoto again instead of updating.
After making your backup try the following:
Uninstall iPhoto by deleting it from the applications folder, but do not empty the Trash.
Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your AppleID.
Open the main page of the App Store and search for iPhoto.
If iPhoto is listed as "Free", click the "Free" button to buy it with your current AppleID.
If it is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support, as Niel pointed out: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/

    Hi!
When trying to download Acrobat Pro XI Student I only get this " http error: 404/support/downloads/dlm/main.jsp " warning. This happens with Akamai and the altervative method too. I've paid it, is this because Adobe hasn't progressed my payment yet?
    Kind regards, xpooler.

Luckily the problem seems to have vanished. I am not sure what happened but I think the reason was one of the browser extensions, thanks for the advice anyway!

I found this response to the same situation on OSX
10.5 and I am wondering if this is safe to carry out.
Am I going to run into any problems if I do this?
{quote}A fix for the ypbind errors in system log
OS X 10.5 Leopard is showing these errors every ten seconds:
] com.apple.nis.ypbind[]: Domainname not set. Aborting.
    ] com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.nis.ypbind[]): Exited with exit code: 1
    ] rasalas-pro com.apple.launchd[] (com.apple.nis.ypbind): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
    I fixed it as follows:
Since ypbind is not used by OS X in 99.9% of installations, just turn it off.
    Edit the ypbind start-up definition
    sudo vi /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.nis.ypbind.plist
    and change
    <true/>
    to
    <false/>
    Then shutdown the service
    sudo service com.apple.nis.ypbind stop
I'm expecting that the "false" will keep it from restarting on reboot, but not quite sure about that.
    Also, for future reference
    sudo service --list
    will show all the 'services'...

  • Update server not responding photosmart 410 all-in-one

    Hi all,
I'm new to blogging and not too computer savvy so patience please. This problem looks like it's been posted before but I'm not sure how to apply it to me.  I have a 410a printer connected to a minimac running OSx 10.10 (yosemite?). I am trying to update software to prevent duplicates printing after turning off the computer. When I go through the procedure to run update the printer screen says it had a problem connecting to the server.
I tried the printer IP address in Safari and Firefox but both say server is not responding. Is the server down, or is a problem with my setup?
    Help - and thanks
    This question was solved.

    Hello HevnLgh,
Thank you for your input. I tried to follow your instructions but had trouble right from the start. I got to HP uninstaller and clicked continue but there was no printer listed. It just said "device" and uninstall was greyed out. I decided to just continue so I reset the printing system and repaired the  disk permissions.
It took me a couple of tries to reinstall the printer from the Apple website because at first it couldn't find the device to add so I tried using the IP address on the next tab and that seemed to do something but it still wouldn't print. The printer was found after I  went back and tried again and everything seemed to work this time (whew).
I tried the update procedure on the printer itself and it still can't connect with the server, but the original problem with the duplicate copy on shut down seems to have resolved itself.
The bottom line is my printer is working like it's supposed to (for now anyway)  and I didn't get two copies of my printout so thank you again for your help.  It's good to know I can go somewhere for help when I have a problem.

  • Adobe application manager update server not responding

I have installed the Creative Suite 6 Master Collection from CDs,
and activated the license. Now when I run Photoshop > Help >
Updates, the Adobe Application Manager runs, but gives the error
message "The update server is not responding. The server might be
offline temporarily, or the Internet or firewal settings may be
    incorrect".
Acrobat and Lightroom both updated no problem. I waited a day, but
    the problem persists. Any thoughts?
    Thanks, Bruce

I found the answer in another post (https://forums.adobe.com/message/4484225#4484225):
Go to creative.adobe.com, and download PhotoShop CC
This downloads, installs, and runs Creative Cloud
As soon as it comes up running, cancel the download of PS CC
All of the CS 6 apps are ready to update
    Thanks, Bruce
