Update to 3.6 won't drag into applications box - administrator has 'insufficient privileges"

I have downloaded 3.6 and tried to install by dragging icon into applications (in OSX). The action is not allowed due to "insufficient privileges". But this is when logged in as the administrator.
== Downloaded 3.6 to install on Mac

    Hello PamelaFox14,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you need to log in as the administrator to update the iTunes application properly.
Take a look at this article named:

    This section in particular:
    1. Make sure you have administrator account access

  • Firefox icon won't drag into applications folder

After I drag the icon, "something" seems to be happening, then it bounces back to the left and says 0 MB available.
I've updated Firefox many times, and this is the first time I've even gotten the prompt to drag the icon! I'm still using an old version.

Which version of Mac OS X do you have?<br />
Firefox 4 and later require at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

  • Newly downloaded version icon won't drag into Applications folder because I "don't have sufficient privileges" - what does that mean & how do I fix it?!

I opened a new window in Firefox, which was still open from last night. I saw the notice:
    URGENT!
Your version of Firefox is no longer protected against online attacks.
Get the upgrade - it’s fast and free!
So, I clicked on the download which ran fine. At step 3, drag the Firefox icon to the Applications icon, a pop up said I didn't have sufficient privileges to do that.
What does this mean and how do I fix it?! Thank you,
    Allison

Okay ... so it's not one of the cases of bodged up ACLs on the Apple folder in Common Files. (That's been underlying a few of the recalcitrant E7W5s.

  • ITunes Update: Installer has Insufficient Privileges

"The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory. C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start\Menu\Programs\iTunes. The installer cannot continue. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator."
    System specs: Windows 7, x32 or x64, fully patched & SP'd
I just worked with my cousin in Colorado over Skype to get this resolved.  This is a fairly obscure error, and if you try to edit the permissions of the folder, run the installer as an administrator, log on as an administrator and run it, no actions seemed to resolve the problem.  We did get it fixed, which involved the following steps.  Not all of these may be strictly required, but hey, it worked for me. ;-)
    1.  Download the latest iTunes installer
    2.  Rt. click the installer, select 'Properties'
    3.  Click on 'Unblock', then click Apply, then OK.
    4.  Click on the Windows icon and type 'uac' (no quotes)
    5.  Click on 'Change User Account Control Settings'
    6.  Move the slider down to 'Never Notify' (NOTE: This will require a reboot)
    7.  Rt. click the installer and select 'Run as administrator' from the context menu
    8.  Let the installer complete (it should now)
    9.  Open 'Change User Account Control Settings'
    10. Return the slider to the position you found it on (likely 2nd from the top)
Hopefully this helps you resolve this issue.  All the best, iTuners!

    Hello Kurt,
I am trying to download Itunes 11.0.2 update.  The update was dowloading, checking for new software, and brought up the User Control Panel up asking for the program to make changes.  When I clicked "yes", the Apple Software Update window opened where Itunes was dowloading then installing, then I received the above error.  I also received an Apple Software Update error stating:  Errors occurred while installing the updates.  If the problem persists choose Tools - Dowload Only and try installing manually.  I tried that and ended up with the same error message:  Insufficient Privileges.  I am logged in as Administrator.  I am definitely not savvy with this type of stuff.  So to follow your instructions above, where - or how - do I dowload the Itunes installer?
Thanks so much for any help you can provide this novice.

  • Software downloads mount drive but do not show icons to drag into applications folder

I downloaded Flash this weekend and Logos 5 today. Both downloaded and the drives mounted, but the drives did not show the software package to be dragged into my application folder. In the case of Flash, the folder header was there, but the space below, where the Flash app was supposed to be was blank. In the case of Logos, when I opened the drive, the only thing visible was the arrow between the app and the shortcut to the applications folder. There was nothing to grab and drag either. Any ideas for me?

3rd party software uses all kinds of different ways to get installed.
Some provide installers you double click on inside the mounted .dmg.  And to keep things interesting, different vendors use different installer utilities
Some include an Alias pointing at the Applications folder.
Some just give you the App and you figure out what to do with it (if you are lucky, these sometimes include a README file that tells you want you should do).
This is life outside the Mac App Store.

  • Cannot down load itunes. Had it before but couldnt update so I uninstalled it and removed all the components but I get a message stating the installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file. Then an error message

I cannot download itunes to my pc. I had it on a couple of months back but I could not update the software so i removed everything and tried to reinstall. I get a message that says "The installer has insufficient privaleges to modify this file. Then when I click that off it continues to download and says its complete and ready but when I try to open i get another message "error#7 itunes did not install correctly. Please reinstall. "Which I have tried to do to no avail. Any suggestions?

      Many thanks.
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Installed update of Firefox, but cannot drag into applications folder, it indicates that "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges", so how can I complete the install?

I try to drag the app into the applications folder where an old app of firefox exists and it asks me if I want to replace it and after i say yes it gives me the operation cannot be completed message.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

  • HT1451 I created a new folder in my playlist but when I click my selection won't drag into the folder

I keep trying to move things into folders to organize my playlists but when I try to click and drag the selections won't move?

Playlist folders can contain more playlist folders and playlists. You can't drag tracks to playlist folders, only to non-smart playlists.

  • SUDDENLY NOTHING IS MOVING, SONGS WON'T DRAG INTO PLAYLISTS

I'M TRYING TO CREATE NEW PLAYLISTS AND SUDDENLY NOTHING IS MOVING. INDIVIDUAL SONGS DON'T MOVE, PLAYLISTS IN THEIR ENTIRETY DON'T MOVE. TRIED CREATING A NEW PLAYLIST FOLDER AND MOVING PLAYLISTS INTO THAT BUT NOTHING GOES. HAVE CHECK SOME SETTINGS BUT I'M AT A LOSE AS TO WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. HAVE THE LATEST VERSION OF ITUNES INSTALLED. ANY SUGGESTIONS???

    Hi Lee113,
I see that you're having a similar issue to me - I download songs through a wi-fi network (wirless internet), and try to sync them to playlists.
Now that I see you have a similar issue, the answer may be a setting in iTunes,or maybe re-downloading these through your PC to see if you can then transfer these purchases to your playlists. I'm currently not at my home PC, but if you could experiment with that, it may help.
All downloads under your iTunes account should be able to be re-donloaded for free through your home PC so give it a shot, download the songs again and try and transfer them. Let me know how you get on.

  • IPhoto - data won't read into application

As an addendum to my earlier post:
I just found that all my photos still exist in pictures>iPhoto Library on my HD, but for some reason they are not loading in iPhoto when I open the iPhoto app. I'm sure there is a way I can manually direct iPhoto to read the photos from the Library ... anyone know how?
    Thanks.

This topic would probably be better suited for the iPhoto forums where you could find some people with some more iPhoto experience. But, you can hold down the "option" key while opening iPhoto and it will present you with a dialog box that allows you to select and iPhoto library folder.
