  • Problems after updating from Mavericks to Yosemite.

Hello everyone.I have noticed some battery problems after updating from Mavericks to Yosemite like no charging at all (but the orange led was on )and not able to fully charged.I solve them with SMC reset and PRAM reset.Furthermore, battery discharges faster than before and its really annoying. Now I have notice that the upper right corner of my mac is getting hot.I'll appreciate any help
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible

  • My Mac book pro has the end of a earphone stuck to it. After this I updated to maverick, and this massively slowed down my computer. Now my laptop is switching on and logging in just fine, but after logging in the screen goes white. What can the reason be?

At first my laptop was fine after the earphone end got stuck in. Soon it started getting slower, and suddenly it stopped switching on. The people in the service station said that it wAs because the hard disk drive was corrupted. I came back home, and immediately it stopped working again. This time they said it was because of water spill. They changed the entire key board and then it started working for a while. Later I updated to maverick and that slowed down my computer. Once, I switched on my laptop, logged in, and then the screen went white. When we took it to the service center they said they will need to replace the hard disk. I am not sure what I should do. Any suggestions?

Liquid damage from water spill is progressive, unfortunately.
    Best.

  • Macbook Pro 2010 upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite keeps shutting down on its own

I upgraded to OS X Yosemite about a month ago, I have a macbook pro 2010, and in the last two weeks it started shutting down on its own. At first when i'd wake it, the fan would come on loudly and then it would shut down. In the last couple of days, I would make sure all programs were shut when it wasn't in use and then put it to sleep but every time i'd return it would be shut down and need a hard restart. If i just pressed the on button lightly it wouldn't start. And when i turn it on the fan comes on immediately. I'm a publisher so I'm working in indesign and illustrator a lot but I keep a constant look out for my memory and this isn't the problem. I'm working to a deadline here and can't afford to lose my computer for 3 days in the mac store (I live in Barbados) to get it fixed. Any advise?
    Thanks

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select the most recent panic report (with a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic") under the heading System Diagnostic Reports on the left. If you don't see that heading, select

In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post any other kind of diagnostic report, such as a hang report.

  • From Mavericks to Yosemite, current Aperture unavailable, "Purchased"not working

Updated from Mavericks to Yosemite, which made my current Aperture 3.5 unavailable, I went to the App Store, went to "Purchased" to update to 3.6 found Aperture and clicked update. I get a small spinning thing on the upper left, but there is no activity, I get a little spinner but it stops and looking at what is being downloaded I see very little activity from the app store.

The solution, for me, is here.

  • I updated from Mavericks to OS X Yosemite without backup

    Hello,
    First , i have a
    iMac (24-inch Mid 2007)
Processor 2.4 GHz intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory 4GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Storage Capacity 32.23 GB free of 319.21 GB
I haven't try any temporary fixes  other than restart and download again.
Problem: I update from Mavericks to SO Yosemite without back-up. Everything is great but now iPhoto will not open even after I downloaded the iPhoto Library Upgraded available from Apple.
Question: Anyone else having the same problem and if so how do i fix this?
Problem: I have an external hard drive of 500 GB for my Time Machine but afraid to use it because it might delete my previous work  and photo.
Question: How can i recover my photos?
    Thanks,
    Eric

I have a 2008 iMac and a 2008 MacBook Pro and had the same issue with iPhoto after installing Yosemite.
I downloaded the latest iPhoto and then got the message to run the iPhoto Library Upgrader which I did. After that I opened the new iPhoto and it upgraded all my pics.
Are you sure you have the latest iPhoto - available free from the App Store?

  • HT1229 With iphoto version 7.1.5 can I  update to Mavericks or Yosemite without losing photos?

I have OS X 10.8.6 Snow Leopard and want to update to Mavericks or Yosemite, but I have heard that many have had problems with iphoto in doing so. I have a particularly old version of iphoto (2008) and do not want to lose my photos of which there are relatively few--about 80.
Does putting the photos on disk ahead of time get around the issue of saving them before doing any upgrade?

If you want to continue to use iPhoto after upgrading to Yosemite buy an upgrade to iPhoto 9.6, once you have installed Yosemite. Then run the iPhoto Library Upgrader. see:  iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrader
If you do not want to keep using iPhoto, since your library is not large, export your photos from iPhoto to a folder on your Desktop, before you upgrade:
Select all photos in iPhoto and use "File > Export".
Don't upgrade to a new system without making a full backup of your computer.  You will need this backup, if you want to revert to your original system.  Before upgrading from Snow Leopard to Yosemite check all your important applications and device drivers, if they are Intel versions or universal versions. The newer MacOS X versions since Lion  do no longer support the Roseta environment, that is required to run Power PC  apps. If you do not upgrade these older apps while still running Snowleopard, you may not be able to upgrade them at all.  See this User Tip:
Classic, Rosetta, and 32/64 bit revisited.

  • Ever since I updated to Maverick my MacBook is slow to load apps

Since I updated to Maverick my MacBook is slow to boot up after being shut down and is slow to load apps (excessive bounce, etc.). Is there a solution?

Your model is right at the cutoff of models that can handle Mavericks, so you need to keep that in mind: an older machine and less powerful processor. Aside from that, you should really have a minimum of 4 GB of RAM for Mavericks to run reasonably well - how much RAM do you have? The 2 GB minimum published does not work that well unless you only use one app at a time.
So, if you've maxed out the RAM, make sure you don't run too many apps at the same time, especially if dealing with photo editing or movie apps and quit one before starting another. Also make sure you have plenty of empty hard drive space at all times.

  • Upgrade external HD from Mavericks to Yosemite

    Hi,
On my MBP I have installed Mavericks 10.9.5.
Then I have a couple of external hard drive with a clone of Mavericks 10.9.5.
If I have a cloned hard drive plugged in (not booting off from it), and I run the installer of Yosemite and I tell to install Yosetime on the external hard drive (where there’s a clone of Mavericks 10.9.5) what would then happen.
Would Yosemite erase everything from the clone, or would the clone upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite, else?
    Thanks

No, the Yosemite install will not erase everything on the clone.
Yes, the clone would upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite. All your apps and data will not be touched.
I actually did something similar onto an SD card. I installed Yosemite 10.10, apps and data. Then later, I ran the 10.10.1 installer against the SD card and all that happened was Yosemite updated from 10.10 to 10.10.1. Nothing else was touched.

  • What is the best solution for migrating from Maverick to Yosemite?

What is the best solution for migrating from Maverick to Yosemite? Anyone have suggestions?

Back up all data. Update all third-party software to the latest version and remove any you don't need. Download the Yosemite installer from the App Store. Run it.

  • Why does my application slow down?

    Hi,
I'm designing a LabVIEW PDA application which has to receive, display and save data. One data is received every 30ms through Bluetooth (the other side is a microcontroller). My problem is that after about 5 secondes the LabVIEW application slows down and my system is not real-time any more. Is it because of the shift registers? I don't have a lot of knowledges in LabVIEW and I hope somebody will be able to guide me toward a solution.
    Thanks in advance

Your image is not good enought to really see what's going on, but nothing seems very efficient from what I recognize.
You don't need the flat 4 frame sequence structure at all. Simply delete the read globals in the fourth frame and use a wire from the value a few frames over. Now execution order is fully determined by dataflow. Delete the sequence.
What's all that song and dance to get a DBL from a string? (looks like "string to byte array...split string...combine...delete from array(?!)...to DBL") I think all you need is a "typecast" and a "to DBL". (I've see that before but it is very hard to comprehend why people use "delete from array" and then only use the "deleted portion" output to get a subset. What's wrong with "index array" or "array subset"????)
You are growing four arrays without bounds, this is very expensive. Do you have any idea how long the arrays will get in the worst case scenario?
you are reading the dt global four times with each iteration. I doubt it will ever change during the loop, so read it once outside the loop and wire it to all users.
Why are you constantly building new waveforms? You might as well just graph the arry direclty and set x0 and dx once with a property node before the loop.
    What determines the loop rate?
Why are you bundling the four arrays into a cluster at the end? Keep the datatype simple! For example you could use a single 2D array.
What is going on in the other frames of the big sequence?
Why on'y ou attach your program, it would be easer to inspect.

Since upgrading from Mavericks to Yosemite Mail, Spotlight, Mission Control and App-Store don´t work correctly. Is it possible to return to Mavericks?

If you have an external drive with an OS X Time Machine backup, then do restore of your last backup. If you have an external drive  with a bootable clone of your previous system, you can boot to that clone and re-clone the OS X on your external drive back to your Mac's internal drive.
If you do not have either of these available, then the reverting/restoring process becomes much more complicated and involves purchasing an external drive and backing up your current system to that drive, then erasing, reformatting your hard drive and now your only options to installng an OS X version is doing a clean install of OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, then upgrading, again, to either OS X 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion. OS X 10.9 Mavericks is no longer available for download and Apple has not made OS X 10.9 Mavericks available in any other form to be able to redownload and install.
Maybe it would be better to explain in detail your issues with Yosemite to see if any of us here can help you with your difficulties.

    Thanks from Zurich,

So does that mean Apple has simply abandoned a proprietary paid for iOS app?
That has happened before - remember iWeb?
But this time Apple has provided a migration to the successor app, Photos.
For iPhoto and Aperture on the Mac is not much known (Aperture is Dead. Long Live Photos! | ApertureExpert), only, that there will be a "Photos" for MacOS X.
