Updated to Snow Leopard 10.6.7, now wireless won't work?

Today I installed the new Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.7 on my MacBook Pro, and now I cannot connect to wireless networks.  I've searched everywhere for answers all night to no avail.  Other macbooks and pc's can connect to the network just fine, so it's definitely the software.
When I open the network settings, the Airport appears in yellow instead of green and says "AirPort has the self-assigned IP address 169.254.26.111 and will not be able to connect to the internet".
I've tried turning the airport on and off, I've tried rebooting the router, rebooting the computer, rebooting the computer in safe mode, moving the System Configuration folder onto my desktop.  Nothing that I found anywhere on this forum has worked.
Now I understand that self assigned IP addresses starting with 169 will not be able to connect to the internet.  My question is what in the world can I do to get an IP address that will allow me to connect to the internet?

Hi! I have the same issue but mine doesn't  assign any ip address, just blank.  I have a brand new macbook.

  • Recently auto updated to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 but mail no longer works. Had my Mac in at the iStore for 3 hours to no avail. Someone out there must have a fix! Help!!!

Just had an automatic update to 10.6.8 last week and then my mail app failed to work after that. Had my Mac in at the iStore in Cape Town for 3 hours and received it back with the same problem. Fellow user Grant Bennet-Alder offers this solution:
Some users have reported this problem if the Mail Application has been moved out of the top-level /Applications folder, or duplicated in another location.
When the Security Update is done, the old version of Mail is disabled.
    The solution has been to:
    1) make certain Mail is in the /Applications folder
    2) There is no other copy anywhere else.
    3) Once steps 1 and 2 have been done, Manually download and re-apply the Security Update (2012-004) by hand.

If the Mail.app has been LOST, it can be re-installed by applying the 10.6.8 version 1.1 combo update. But this update is quite large and it is usually not necessary:

  • I have updated my iPad and Apple TV and now AirPlay won't work!

I've had my Apple TV for a few months, lately my iPhone, Apple TV, and BOTH my iPads updated to 6.1 os. Now AirPlay doesn't work from any of my devices. I have restarted all of them, and even reset the Apple TV but still no joy. I can't think of anything left to try. Any ideas apart from loosing the plot???

    1.  There is no 6.1 update for ATV.  So what did you update?
    2.  Have you checked to see if AirPlay is still enabled on ATV, the iPhone, and iPad?  Did you check to see if your AirPlay id and password where still entered into your iPhone and iPad?

  • Updated to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 now I cannot print to my HP 4050 TN Laserjet nor scan from my Cannon 8800F

I have looked high and low, and pretty much all over the internet for a solution to this problem, especially for the printer, which I use frequently.
I have an HP 4050TN LaserJet printer that I had networked via ethernet to my iMac (when it was running just leopard) Once I did all the updates for 10.6.8, I found that my printer is nowhere to be seen, I can't add it. Nothing.
I found hp printer drivers for Lion, but I'm not going to get Lion, if i just have to turn around and get Mountain Lion in a couple of months anyway . . .
    Regarding my Scanner:
When I try to use my Cannon CanoScan 8800F MP Navigater justs quits. . . .
    Help??

A couple of things to try. Have you tried using Image Capture in the Applications folder for scanning - does it find the Canon?
You could also try resetting the printing system. Sometimes helps reslove printing problems:
System Preferences>Print & Fax, Control+Click or right click on a printer on the left and select 'reset printing system'. All printers will be deleted and need to be added again.

I just Updated the iOS on my iPhone 4 from 4.3.1 to the latest update, (after backing up my data on iTunes) and now the iPhone says I have 0bytes available and need to delete some photos or videos..  I have tried deleting content from my iPhone, as well as re-setting it, and nothing works.  What could be the problem?

Try hold down Power and Home buttons for 10 to 15 seconds.

  • Updated my Iphone 4s to iOS7 and now imessages won't work

After updating my phone my imessages aren't working (one of the many problems caused by the update). I've tried going under settings to turn on the imessages and logged in with my apple ID but it says it says "iMessage Activation: Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again."

I have had the same problem since updating
However I also have no facetime, and every time I use an app I get a message asking me to review the icloud terms and condition. Would happily do this but all it does is take me to a blank page. Apple support suggested resetting everything via settings, but icloud, facetime and imessaging are"greyed out".
    any suggestions anyone?

I have updated from Snow Leopard to Lion with Safari Version 5.0.5. Now I can not update to Safari 5.1. There is no update in the Software Updater, and on the apple-download page, I only found a Safari 5.1 for Snow Leopard. When executing it, there is an error message, that it is for 10.6 only.
It seems that I should have first updated Safari, and then only to Lion, which I didn't. Any idea how I can fix this now without having to rollback to Snow Leopard, update Safari and then go back to Lion?

Try this Safari5.1 from the installer package

The download worked better with Firefox not sure why. At the bottom of the page after the captcha>> slow down load is the Free link,  it took about 4 minutes to download on my test.

  • Updated to snow leopard now i dont have mail

I just updated to snow leopard... the best my 4 year old mac can go to... just so I can connect my iphone 5 to itunes.... now i find i do not have my mail.... grr...and its a saturday night...cant ring for help... anybody help me.. thanks

What Mail don't you have? Is that Mac Mail that is now missing? It's not in /Applications? Is it in some sub-folder there? If it is, then move it out in plain sight. Then run the 10.6.8 Combo Update.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1399
After that run the latest Security Update
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1642
Or are all your e-mails missing? Clarification needed for now I don't have Mail.

  • Updated to snow leopard and now get blue screen

    Hi there,
I recently updated to snow leopard and now I get blue screen on start-up.
I manage to get to enter my password and then to my desktop for a few seconds before it flicks back to my login.
I tried using disk utility from the install disc and it said HD appears to be ok. But it hasn't solved the problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

  • Macbook Pro recent update to Snow Leopard now disc drive doesn't work??

I just updated my Macbook Pro to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 now my disc drive won't work at all! I've read a couple forums here that show everyone had this problem back in 2009 when I guess this first came out...great. How do I fix this? It appears to be a software issue. If I upgrade to mavericks will this fix it? Although I also see that makes your computer very slow! Ugh I need help please!

    Two things to try:
    1. SMC reset, Directions are here - note the steps are different depending on whether or not the battery can be removed by the user:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
    2. NVRAM / PRAM reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
These steps are worth trying, although the problem may be deeper.
Please post back with your results.

    Hi spiritentrep,
What Adobe software are you referring to? Are you using Acrobat? You should have no problems running Acrobat XI on Yosemite, and as along as you have compatible scanner drivers for your Epson, you should be fine there as well.

  • Updated to Snow Leopard and now my picture looks bad on my HD TV... help?

    Hey guys and gals.
So I have a MBP 1.3ghz 15" 4 gb RAM and running Snow Leopard.
I have always used my DVI to Composite/S-Video adapter to watch movies on TV. I just recently updated to Snow Leopard from 10.4 and for some reason it looks like my resolution is all jacked up. I see that my resolution options have decreased on the video preferences and no matter which one I use I get a real bad blur and sometimes a distorted B&W picture on my tv.
    Any ideas?
    TIA
    A

Hello. I don't know what part of the world you're in but if you're in North America TVs typically operate on the NTSC format and if you're in another part of the world PAL is used. If you have an option in System Preferences, make sure the appropriate choice is selected.
