Updating FCP to 5.1.0

I a currently have a G4 running the latest version of OSX and Quicktime. The version of FCP I have is 5.0.3. I am currently trying to upgrade it. I have the 5.1.0 disc and I am trying to update it from that, but when I do, the option to select FCP upgrade is greyed out and I cannot tick the box.
Spec:
G4 Dual 867 processor
2GB ram
OSX 10.4.7
Anyone got any ideas? I'm really stuck on this one, I even tried removing it from the G4 and start from scratch but it still wont recognise it. Do I need to upgrade the current version of FCP to 5.0.4 or something

Yes....yes it will. This is the ONLY time I have seen FCP be backwards compatible. I think it is because FCP 5.1.4 was a minor fix to 5.1.2..

Updated FCP X versions are not showing up

Updated FCP X versions are not showing up in my App Store upgrades. Apple has been less than helpful other than to verify that I'm looking in the right iTunes account. Can anyone tell me why I can't see the updated versions? I can see my updates for both compressor and motion.

You probably have the app purchase "hidden" in the App Store. See this tech note for further details:

When you reinstall FCPX it should show as already purchased and allow you to just download it again. No charge as far as I know.

I cannot update FCP 7 to 7.03 on a installation with Yosemite

I set up a new installation with Yosemite and installed Final Cut Studio from my original disks. FCP 7.00 work properly, but it will not update to 7.03. Now I cannot open my projects, that I was working on with FCP 7.03,

Oh...yeah. It can't update when FCX is in the Apps folder. Since I don't use FCX, I don't know the actual solution, but I know that FCX needs to not be in the Apps folder, or needs to be hidden in some sub folder, in order for the update to work. I think I read that you need to install and then update FCP 7 before you even install FCX.

Updating fcp

i'm assuming this shouldn't be a big deal but planning on doing a bunch of updates to my mac pro including updating fcp 6.05 > 6.06 and quicktime from 7.6 > 7.6.6. while i was at it, i thought i'd update leopard 10.5.6 > 10.5.8 and there's also the prokit 5.1 update. is it worth doing these and are there any issues with doing this. for example i've heard some folks have had issues losing their pro level w/ quicktime. is there any particular order that i should perform them and any tips. i have back upped my hd and i'll repair permissions. thanks.

Download the combo updater to 10.5.8.
Repair permissions. Install it, repair permissions.
Then run the software updater for the pro apps.
Don't do this in the middle of a project.
Also, if everything is working, why change it?

how did you obtain it? I would think that if you got it from traditional sources the answer would be obvious...so indulge us and share where/how you got it...because I can only think of two ways to update FCPx...

Can't update fcp 5.1 to 5.1.4

final cut pro (5.1.4) stopped working on my office mac (dual 1.25 g4 running 10.5.6) so i deleted the fcs apps, the plists and receipts and reinstalled fcs and compressor from our original fcs disks. ran software update and it installed everything successfully except the fcp 5.1.4 update. if i repeat the process for just the 514 update it downloads the file but stalls at the 'checking packages' step then i get an error which reads "the update final cut pro update can't be installed. sorry an unexpected error occurred'.
so i downloaded the 5.1.4 update from the apple site but launching that i hit an issue where i can't click on the install button after agreeing to the eula. if i click on the install location and reselect my boot drive i still see the install button greyed out.
any suggestions?

fixed it by downloading the excellent fcs remover application, running it then reinstalling everything.

Help! Updating FCP from 10.0.3 to 10.0.5-Project will not open.

So here is the deal:
I asked an intern to cut an small video for a friend. We loaded her computer up with FCP 10.0.3. She started the project on that. She upgraded to 10.0.5 over the course of the summer and completed the project. She never experience any issues opening her project files.
I copied her files over to my comuter running 10.0.3. They wouldn't not open and it told me to upgrade. I upgraded both FCP and my OS System. Now that I am running all of the latest updates, NONE of her project files will open on my FCP. What is going on???? She is leaving for College this morning and I am stuck wtih a bunch of useless files. Anyone know what the issue could be?
My OS is 10.7.4
FCP 10.0.5

Also, I will add, that I have not worked in FCP since version 7 and I have always hosted the files safely on my computer so there weren't any linking issues. Please let me know if I didn't copy all of the necessary files in order for it to open as well.

Originally, when I was running 10.0.3, it informed me that I had to upgrade. Now, it's just not able to be opened.
Am I missing some kind of ghost file that I didn't copy over from her computer?

Cannot update FCP 6.0

I don't understand why after several Pro Application Updates, my FCP version still shows version 6.0
The latest update 2008-02 updates all my other components in Final Cut Studio 2, but FCP remains the same version although it should be v.6.0.4 by now.

If you installed Leopard as an "upgrade" installation, you could be having your problems due to that... but you can also leave all applications and just "archive and install" from your leopard disk. It's only going to replace the OS that way. But doing the erase and install is best. You could clone your current startup disk first to preserve it, or set up a new startup disk. I typically run 3 different startup disks/partitions on my single system here... not a problem works great, and always gives me the opportunity to clone my "backup perfect system" to my "working" system if need be. I use "SuperDuper" for the job... it can restore a startup disk in about an hour complete with studio, Office, Adobe software etc...

Installing update fcp 7 after installing fcp x

FCS 3 is put into a folder when FCP X is installing. When I try to update FCS 3 with Pro Applications Update 2010-02 to obtain FCP 7.0.3 the installer says succesfull, but I still have FCP 7.0.0 (and Motion 4.0.0 etc.)
Is there a way to point the installer to the applications in the Final Cut Studio folder?

Should I remove FCP X completely, move the FCS 3 apps to the root, perform the the update, then reinstall FCP X? (Apple keeps track of my purchases, isn't it?)

Quicktime update + fcp update = iDVD problem

recently updated my quicktime to 7.1.5
Now, after exporting clip from FCP 5.1.4, dropping the quicktime file into iDVD5, and burning a DVD, the clips are not able to be played on a consumer DVD player (I tried 3 different ones). The DVD is able to be navigated, but once a button is selected, the menu freezes and there is no clip. However, the DVD works fine on a computer (pc and mac). I have been working with this process for the last 2 years with no problem, and the DVD's were fine even hours before the upgrade.
Any thoughts are appreciated!

Here I am replying to my own message.
After reading a post regarding this problem on Creative Cow it turns out to be a Zazwerks plug-in. In this case 3d Flag. I use it in Motion.
The path is Library/Plug-ins/FxPlug/Zaxwerks3DFlag.fxplug
When I remove that last folder, the Zaxwerks one, FCP 5.1.2 loads no problem. Put the plug-in back, and no loading.
There you go. Causes me some problem as I am using the plug-in for a client project in Motion, but I guess we'll just move it in and out until a fix is developed.

Cannot Update FCP

I just installed FCP 5.1 and i went to system pref. and did the updates.
The updates i have are FCP 5.1.4, Motion update, and Compressor update. I tried updating but an error comes up after it downloads and says that it cannot be downloaded and the file has been moved to the trash.
Whats going on?

I just experienced this problem. It turned out to be because I had installed Logic Studio first (on my new MBP), which has a newer version of Compressor, SoundTrack Pro, and who knows what else. I removed all of Logic Studio and FCP 5.1 apps +and associated files+, then reinstalled FCP 5.1. Then all the Software Updates worked.
I will now proceed to spend the next few hours of my brief life reinstalling Logic Studio...

Updated FCP 5.1 to 5.1.2 - Audio and video now out of sync

I just noticed in my software update that FCP needed to be updated. So I updated the program.
Now when I open exisiting projects the audio and video are out of sync even though they appear perfectly in sync in the timeline. Has anyone else had this problem? The problem also persists when cutting clips in the timeline. I will use the razor tool to make the cut and I cut the clip on a ceratain frame in the timeline and then in the viewer the clip was really cuts a second or two later. Does anyone know what is going on?
Very furstrating to say the least. Any help is much appreciated.

I am still wondering why you're recommending that I use an external drive for this project.
Because the internal has more than enough to do running Mac OS X and the applications. It is constantly writing files. While DV video is at the lower end of the scale, it is still asking a lot of the drive's read and write head.
I always used external drives, but we had many problems with delays and processing problems.
At the very least, you should be using FireWire external drives. USB is no good for video as it delivers data in packets, not the sustained stream that video needs. The drives must also be formatted as Mac OS Extended. Windows FAT 16 of FAT 32 formatted drives have file size limits of 2 and 4 GB respectively. Anything larger is segemented and can cause problems on a Mac.

Update FCP 6.06 to the FCP 7

I have an old version of FCP 6.06 on one of my Macs. I would like to update it to FCP 7 to be able to convert my old FCP 7 projects to FCP X projects. How can I update? I have tried the 2010 FC Studio upgrade, but I get te message that I don't need to upgrade...???
I have also tried to reinstall Final Cut Studio to my editing machine, but it won't install the old Final Cut Pro. I already have Final Cut X installed.

the upgrade to fcp7 is a paid upgrade and is no longer available. You might be able to find one on ebay or amazon.
What OS are you running? If you're running a recent OS, you can install fcp 6, but you'll need to either install rosetta from a snowleopard disk or use one of the other workarounds. I've installed Rosetta on several clients machines without any issues but some people (well actually one participant on this forum) says this is very dangerous.
