Updating iOS 6 without upgrading to 7

Hi All,
I have an iPhone 4s and have zero interest in iOS 7 due to the storage requirements. I saw that a new update went live for iOS 6, but when checking my settings the only update available is a full jump to iOS 7. Is there any way around this so that I can still get updates from my iOS 6 device?

There is no update for iOS 6 other than what you already have.
The next update for you would be iOS 7.0.4 which was released yesterday.

You should be able to copy it over to your computer's iTunes via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases.
Audiobooks are a one-time only download from the store, so you may want to take a backup copy of it when you've copied it over to your computer

  • How can I update iOS without losing my media?

Hey guys, how can I update iOS without losing my media?
I've been told to sign into iTunes on another computer, authorize the computer in iTunes, then sync my iDevice before updating iOS. When I attempted that I got a warning message from iTunes saying the content on my iDevice would be replaced with the content on the computer so I backed out. I don't have my computer with me and I'd really like to sync my iDevice with another computer so I can update my iDevice to iOS 5.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks.

Wait till IOS 7 has been officially released in fall - now it is only available for developers.
And see this for compatibility with IOS 7 on your phone: (scroll down to the bottom of the page)

What model iPad and what iOS are you running? The max iOS for the iPad 1 is 5.1.1.
    See
iOS 5: Updating your device to iOS 5 or Later
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect to your computer & click on the "Update your device using iTunes".
Tip - You may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. After you update to iOS 5.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • Updating iTunes without upgrading software. HELP!

I bought a Clamshell iBook on eBay and it came with 10.3.9 software already installed on it. I have iTunes 4 and I need to update as much as I can without upgrading the Mac OS X. Everytime I try to enter the iTunes store, it tells me that the store is too busy and to try again later, or that the internet connection is bad. Which I know these are not the cases. It won't even let me load my songs and application on from my iPhone. I need alot of help with this!!!
If anyone can help me with this I would appreciate it very much!
    Thank you.

Sorry, didn't catch the iPhone part. You will need to upgrade if you want to sync your phone. Here's what the iPhone needs:
    Mac system requirements
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.4.10 or later
    iTunes 7.7 or later
If you don't have a USB 2.0 port, syncing is very slow and prone to errors.
I'm not sure what your iBook specs are, but OS 10.4 (Tiger) has the following requirements:
To use Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, your Macintosh needs:
    A PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
    Built-in FireWire
At least 256 MB of RAM
DVD drive (DVD-ROM), Combo (CD-RW/DVD-ROM) or SuperDrive (DVD-R) for installation
At least 3 GB of free disk space
You can find Tiger discs for purchase online. Try a Google search.

  • Update iOS without iTunes.

I have a problem with network connection so i got my iPod touch-4 Gen failed to update to iOS-5. Is that any other way to update without download it direct from iTunes? i have tried to download the IPSW restore file with my Download Manager  and hold Shift Key+restore menu on iTune but it doesnt work (Error 3002). If i download and update it directly via iTunes, it will stuck in the middle and error 3200. But when i check my network connection there is no problem detected and it can download other file so fast.

from where you downloaded ipsw file?

  • Need to update IOS without losing pictures, data entries, etc

I have an IPhone 4 and really need to update my IOS (I'm still on 4.3.1).   When I attempted to update it a long time ago, I received a pop-up message saying it would "delete all of the apps and media, including iTunes Store purchases" on my phone and said "to preserve your content, apply this update on the computer where you sync apps, music, videos, and photos.  Updating on this computer will only preserve contacts, calendars, text messages, and other settings."  I have synced my phone with iTunes several times and can see where it has saved my apps and I have my pictures from the photo app that came with my phone so I'm not concerned about them.  What I am concerned about is trying to save photos that are in a pass code locked photo app, entries made in my calendar (Dr's appointments, concert events, meeting dates, etc), and ENTRIES into a private diary that I have written in for several years.  I see the diary app on iTunes, but have no way of knowing if the contents/entries inside were saved.  My phone didn't come with ICloud and I am unable to download it on my phone because of the IOS, but I was able (using another IPhone) to get ICloud on my PC, but have been unable to find out if I can save these photos and diary entries there long enough to update my IOS. I'd really hate to lose 2-3 years worth of diary entries, but I seriously need to update my IOS!   If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it!!

    You cannot.
The iPhone is designed to sync to one and only one library.
Attempts to sync (which is required to update) will wipe the content from the device and replace it with content from the new library.
They need to fix or replace their home pc and then upgrade.

  • Update ios without pc, now cant use my iphone4

i'm just update my iphone from ios 5 to 6 using my iphone4 (without pc, because i'm on aboard). after finished download, it start to install, few second after, it appear to connect to itunes, i cant because i dont have my laptop. how can to solve this problem, because i cant use my phone to make any calls. thx

Unfortunately, you will have to just keep waiting and trying again.  I know how you feel.  I can't live without my phone either.  The activation servers are probably overloaded with everyone trying to update to iOS 7 today.

  • How to restore photos in ipad after updating ios without backup?

Please help! I accidently updated my wife's ipad which she didn't do any backup before. All her valuable vacation photos as well as her cooking photos are gone! Anyone out there can give any solution to this? Thanks in advance!

There is no solution. If you didn't backup the iPad, the photos are gone.
    Do you use photo stream?

Allan Eckert, my guess is that my reply did not show up until the OPs posted her reply. That problem seems to have restarted this morning. See the post in the Lounge>Community Operations forum for more info.

  • My iPod touch won't connect to wifi. Password is correct. Already reset network settings and restored ipod to original settings. Already updated iTunes and upgraded iPod to iOS 6.

A message keeps popping up when I try to join my network that says, "unable to join the network."
I have already reset network settings and restored ipod to original settings.
I already updated iTunes and upgraded iPod to iOS 6.
The password is correct. I even made sure by checking my wifi account.
I have completely restarted my internet connection multiple times.
I have also restarted my ipod multiple times
My wifi was working on my iPod yesterday before I reset all settings.
I updated it yesterday to iOS 5. Still didn't work.
It wasn't updated to the new iOS 6 until today so I don't think it has anything to do with the upgrade.
My camera started to be glitchy, so I reset my Ipod like I was advised in another discussion.
My internet wasn't connected anymore. My password wasn't working either, but the wifi connection was still showing.
    Safari still wasn't working, though.
I did the sensible thing and I reset my network connection.
Now, the password isn't working and there's no wifi signal.
The camera is working well now, but the wifi is messed up. I didn't expect any of this to happen. The internet is all I use the iPod for. Now, the iPod is useless to me. Please help?

are other things still connecting to the wifi without a problem?
Have you tried resetting network settings, then unplugging modem and router from power for 40 seconds then plugging back in letting the lights stabilize and Then recconecting with the ipod>?

  • Restoring 5.1.1 without upgrading to iOS 6

I want to restore my 5.1.1 iOS.  Is there a way to do that without upgrading to iOS 6?

If you have not yet installed iOS 6, and you have an iOS 5 still on your computer, then you can restore your iPhone with iOS 5 -- I think the help above assumed you had already installed 6 and wanted to step back down to 5 (that is not possible via "standard methods", and is a violation of the TOU here).
So yes if you still have iOS 5 on your computer you can restore to iOS 5 as long as you haven't updated to 6 -- no requirement to update to iOS 6 if you haven't done so yet.  If you do not have iOS 5 on your computer, then you won't be able to download it from Apple.  There are other sources to get iOS 5 if you Google that, then you should be able to restore to that version as long as what you saved to your computer is the same (or later) version of iOS 5 that you're using now.
I've updated to iOS 6 and have had no troubles at all, but I won't try to sell you on updating.

  • I have this iPod touch 3rd gen (without camera, right?).. What is its updated ios?

I have this iPod touch 3rd gen (without camera, right?).. What is its updated ios?

Then you most likely have a 2nd generation. To confirm, check the model number on the back. if it is A1288, it is a 2nd gen and can not be upgraded beyond 4.2.1.

  • How can I restore an iPad to factory.....WITHOUT "upgrading" to IOS-*?

I have an iPad 2 that I want to give to a friend.  I'd like to reset it to factory settings, WITHOUT "upgrading" to IOS-8 (I have a 4 that is upgraded & fine, just have my doubts about 8 on a 2).  I've had it laying around my office and I'm not sure whether I ever backed it up previously at home (know I haven't done it here).
Is there a way to avoid IOS-8, or should I just sync it & remove all my music, photos, etc. then give it to him?
    Sam

    K-Tim,
Thanks for the quick reply.  Will doing that keep the current IOS-7 on it then?
