Updating Java JRE from 1.5 to 1.6 in Solaris 10 SPARC

Hi!
The server came with the 1.5.0_07 preinstalled , now I want to update it to 1.6.0_11 and downloaded it already.
How can I update it ?

I'm doing this soon myself. Here are links to the instructions:
[http://java.sun.com/javase/6/webnotes/install/jdk/install-solaris.html|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/webnotes/install/jdk/install-solaris.html]
[http://java.sun.com/javase/6/webnotes/install/jdk/install-solaris-64.html|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/webnotes/install/jdk/install-solaris-64.html]
All Solaris machines use the first link. 64-bit machines use the second link as well.
Looks pretty straight-forward.

  • How can I completely remove Java JRE from my system?

    Hi,
    the installation of an earlier version of JRE didn't finish properly (1.5.??), since then it isn't possible at all neither to deinstall it nor to install ANY version (stops on extraction of the installation files, the process must be killed by the task manager!). It seems as if there are some incorrect statements left in the registry.
    When I try to install the latest version, it stops with a "missing version information" error.
    Is there any possibility to remove ALL statements belonging to Java out of the registry without doing it manually, so that I can install the latest version? Or does anyone of you have a better idea?
    THX,
    Christian
    Edited by: ChrizzLee on Oct 22, 2007 12:32 PM

    If the uninstaller has already lost some files, it will be diffcult to uninstall properly from Add/remove programs. Its better to remove the entry from registry.Actually you can do it safe without much problem.If no other versions of java are installed, delete the javasoft key (entire tree)from LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE. Then reinstall jdk.It should splve the problem

  • Can't get Firefox to "downgrade" Java JRE version

    I recently allowed the Java updater to update my Java JRE from 1.6.x to 1.7.x. However I have a critical web site that will not run the applet unless it sees a 1.6x "only" JRE. (yes, it is a dumb site) . Anyway, I removed the 1.7 version, and re-installed 1.6 but Firefox still shows the 1.7 version in my add-ons and I can't remove the references or get them to update to 1.6x.
    I still can't get the web site to launch the applet that I need from FF because it thinks I am not running 1.6x. I am NOT having this problem using IE8.. it seems to have downgraded just fine.

    You can see the installed plugins that are enabled on the about:plugins page.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/about%3Aplugins
    You can set the plugin.expose_full_path pref to true on the about:config page to see the full path of plugins on the about:plugins page.<br />
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/about:config
    It is best not to leave that pref set to true as it exposes that full path to web servers, so reset that pref to false after you are done with the about:plugins page.

  • Best way to update java w/ zen

    Hi all: I have been working on a method of pushing out a
    java update via zenworks. However I keep running into
    issues. My method is very simple: either copy the exe down
    to the server or call it off of a server, then start it with
    the /s switch. However this method fails as several java
    dependencies prevent the installer from completing. In the
    past I have use snappshot but that limits you to a specific
    version to version upgrade whereas using the exe/silent
    method does not.
    I am curious how others update java (jre) via zen? Thanks,
    Chris.

    The switch is /qb, not /bn

    For webstart apps., the procedure is along the lines of..
    - Install the other JRE.
    - Open the [Java Control Panel|http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/javawebstart/apps/player.jnlp]
    - In Win/Linux that will open showing the Java Cache Viewer, close it and..
    - Navigate to the Java tab
    - View the Java Application Runtime Settings
    - Find or Add the other JRE as needed.
    For applets, do the same, but from the Java Applets Runtime Settings, View button.

  • Updates for Java 2 Runtime Enviroment V1.4.2_08 and Java JRE 1.3.1_01

    Hello everyone,
    Thanks again for your help, I have a different question, because in my windows 2003 I have 2 versions, (I suppose)
    Java 2 Runtime Enviroment V1.4.2_08 and
    Java JRE 1.3.1_01 (Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.3._01)
    Anyeone here, that might help me to find out the difference, or JRE 1.3.1_01 is just an old version of V1.4.2_08. Thanks a lot!

    To answer " Anyeone here, that might help me to find out the difference, or JRE 1.3.1_01 is just an old version of V1.4.2_08. Thanks a lot!"
    Yes. 1.3.1_01 is very old, and 1.4.2_08 contains all the fixes/features/changes that are in 1.3.1_01. There is considerable change between the two.
    You are going to have to do some work to figure out the differences if that is your intention.
    Each family release moves the code base forward, containing all the features/fixes from the previous family.
    1.4.2 introduced new features, and had many, many fixes. Each 1.4.2 update has release notes that list the changes that you can find and read.
    Consider moving to 1.7
    Have fun!

  • The Java for Mac OSX 10.5 Update 10 removed the Java plugin from Firefox 5.0. How do I re-install it?

    I've just installed Java for Mac OSX 10.5 Update 10 and can no longer run Java Applets from Firefox 5.0

    Dear Craig,
    Macbook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB RAM
    I'm sure that this is 64-bit
    CF 8.0.1 Enterprise Build 3080
    I had moved the Java SE 6 to the top in both Plugin and Applications. The
    correct version is showing in the terminal window. See below.
    Last login: Thu Jun 18 11:27:09 on ttys001
    Beta-4:~ Colin$ java -version
    java version "1.6.0_13"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_13-b03-211)
    Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 11.3-b02-83, mixed mode)
    Beta-4:~ Colin$
    CF will not start. I have the activity monitor open, and when I start CF you
    see it in the activity monitor for a few seconds as it starts up. When the
    message process is completed in the terminal window CF disappears in the
    activity monitor.
    Any suggestions?
    C
    Hi, Colin,
    My apologies but I forgot to ask 2 questions: (1) What kind of Mac you have
    (Intel or PowerPC)? (2) What version of CF are you running and what installer
    did you choose (8 or 8.0.1, 32-bit, 64-bit, etc.)?
    To start, try the following:
    1. Normally you'd shut CF down first ... but that's not necessary for you
    2. Open Java Preferences again
    3. Select Java SE 6 and move it (drag) to the top spot in both section (Applet
    Plugin and Applications)
    4. Open Terminal
    5. Type java -version (you should see 1.6.0_13 as the new version)
    6. Try to start CF again
    This may not work (I've had issues with it) but it's technically how it's
    supposed to work. With the Java Preferences utility, you're visually setting a
    default JVM (you can do it with commands in Terminal but this is much faster
    and easier).
    If CF still won't start, look for the jvm.config file in your CF application
    folder (try /Applications/ColdFusion8/bin or
    /Applications/ColdFusion8/runtime/bin -- the latter is where a jvm.config file
    is on my machine for a particular version of CF that's installed similar to
    yours). You can override the JVM in this file but, hopefully, that won't be
    necessary!
    Best,
    Craig

  • Invoking java methods from C/C++ on the machine with different JREs

    I implemented Windows NT Service instantiating JVM and invoking several java methods. Everything works but I have an issue with running the service on the machine where multiple different versions of JRE have been installed. The service is calling java methods that require JRE 1.3 or later so I wrote the code that is setting system PATH from within the service based on the configuration stored in the external file. The problem is that the service requires jvm.dll to be in the PATH prior lunching it since this library is instantiated through the implicit linking. When I put jvm.dll in the same path as the service binary I can lunch it but JNI_CreateJavaVM fails and returns -1. This happens even if JRE 1.3 is in the system PATH prior lunching the service.
    Everything works if the system PATH contains references to JRE 1.3 and jvm.dll is removed from the service's directory.
    I am looking for an advice on what is the proper way to deal with invoking java methods from the C/C++ executable in the environment with different versions of JRE.
    Thanks, Kris.

    Here's a way I have done what you are asking about:
    What you want to do is make all of your linking happen at runtime, rather than at compile time. This way, you can edit the PATH variable before the jvm.dll gets loaded.
    Following is some code that I used to handle a dll of my own in this manner. You can decide if you want to write a "wrapper" dll, or if you find it simpler to approach the jvm.dll in this way.
    // Define pointer type for DLL entry point.
         typedef void JREPDLL_API (*EXECUTEREQUEST)(char*, Arguments&);
    // Set up path, load dll, and pass everything off to it.
    HINSTANCE javaServer = javaServer = LoadLibrary("jrepdll.dll");
    if (javaServer != NULL) {
    EXECUTEREQUEST executeRequest = (EXECUTEREQUEST)GetProcAddress(javaServer, "ExecuteRequest");
    if (executeRequest != NULL) {
    if (argc == 1)
         // Execute the request.
         executeRequest("-run", args);
    else
         // Execute the request.
         executeRequest("-console", args);
    Here's some code for how to edit the PATH:
              // Edit the PATH environment variable so that we use our private java.
    char *appendPt;
    char *newPath;
    char *path;
              char tmp[_MAX_PATH];
              // Get the current PATH variable setting.
    path = getenv("PATH");
              // Allocate space for an edited path setting.
              if (path != NULL)
                   newPath = (char*)malloc((_MAX_PATH * 2) + strlen(path));
              else
                   newPath = (char*)malloc((_MAX_PATH * 2));
              // Get upper part of path to desired directories.
              strcpy(tmp, filepath);
              appendPt = strstr(tmp, "dbin\\jreplicator");
              appendPt[0] = '\0';
    sprintf(newPath, "PATH=%sjava\\jre1.2.2\\bin;%sjava\\jre1.2.2\\bin\\classic", tmp, tmp);
    // Append the value of the existing PATH environment variable.
    // If there is anything, append it.
    if (path != NULL) {
         strcat(newPath, ";");
         strncat(newPath, path, (sizeof(newPath) - strlen(newPath) - 2));
    // Set new PATH value.
    _putenv(newPath);
              free(newPath);

  • Update USR table from Java Code outside OIM

    Hi,
    I want to update a particular field in the USR table using the update query specifically from the java code. I dont want use updateUser api.
    I have written the code which works fine for some userids. But for some user ids it gets the tcUtility object successfully but when trying to execute the update query, it throws the tcDatasetException with message as Data Access Error.
    Please let me know how can i achieve this.
    Also let me know the groups the userid should be member to execute a update query on OIM DB from external java code..
    TIA...

    You are performing an unsupported process. I suggest you correctly code a connection to OIM, and perform the update correctly.
    If you need to update the database directly, use jdbc java connection and run the update. You can do a google search for jdbc and java to find plenty of samples.

  • Java update 2012-006 did not remove Java plugin from any browser

    I successfully installed Java update 2012-006 via Software Update on my iMac running OS X Lion 10.7.5 (German) and it updated the Java runtime to version 1.6.0_37 and removed the Java Preferences application as expected, but it did not remove the Java plugin from any browser!
    Safari and Firefox can still use the Java plugin as before.
    I repaired permissions, rebooted, manually downloaded Java update 2012-006 and successfully installed it again without any change to the Java plugin: it is still present on my system and fully functional from any browser!
    The web is full with messages from users missing the Java plugin after installing this update - but I could not find anything about the plugin not being removed!
    Is anyone experiencing the same behaviour under Lion? I thought this would happen only under Snow Leopard...
    What should I do now? Can I really trust this "successfull installation" of Java update 2012-006 on my system?
    Thanks,
    Michael

    Thanks - I will keep the symlink in place and I won't touch the Deploy bundle, because I need the plugin in Safari and I don't need Oracle's Java 7 for now...
    If the plugin is supposed to stay in the Deploy bundle, this could help others who miss the plugin - they could just recreate the symlink, right?
    To summarize I think we can state, that the Java update 2012-006 for Lion and Mountain Lion sometimes leaves the symlink in /Library/Internet Plugins/ untouched.
    The circumstances that lead to this behaviour are still unknown.
    The install log in Console shows that the scripts to create links and to delete obsolete files ran okay, but there was an error with the "postinstall" script. In spite of this the installation succeeded:

    Does anybody know what "com.apple.mrt.uiagent" and "com.apple.mrt" stands for?
    Obviously the "postinstall" script provides an invalid argument (at least on my system).
    I have no idea if this is related to the Java Plugin symlink not being removed...

  • Java JRE 32-bit 7 update 71 performance issues

    We have packaged and are testing Java JRE 32-bit 7 update 71.  We are encountering a number of issues in testing, mostly surrounding performance.
    Login to McAfee Web Gateway Console via IE takes abnormally long time to connect (over a minute).  This same process with Google Chrome completes in 5 seconds.  Normal login time with JRE 32-bit 7 update 65 is around 5 seconds.
    Also experiencing similar issues with performance with IBM Workplace XT using JRE 7 update 71.  Using JRE 7 update 65 works with normal access times (around 5 seconds).  Many users impacted by this issue.
    Access to some external websites fails with ClassNotFoundException (start.jviewONE.class).
    We tried Java 7 update 72 and also 8 update 25 with the same results.  The only documented updated features are a timezone and expiration enforcement.  We have compared settings side by side (7v65 vs 7v71, 7v72, 8v25) and do not note any additional configuration or differences in settings.
    Is anyone else experiencing these issues?  Were you able to find a resolution?

    We have found exactly the same.
    Websites such as JavaTester.org give a 'ClassNotFoundException' application error in Internet Explorer whereas they work fine in Firefox and Chrome.  Switching a PC back to 7u65 gets the website working fine again.  Interestingly I did have a VM with 7u71 installed that could still access the Java applets on these websites - but it can't now following a revert to snashot!?

    Configuration: EBS 12.1.1 on OEL 5.5 (64-bit).
    Regards

    You need to be on 10.1.2.3.0 or higher, so if you are on 10.1.2.3.0 you should be OK and you can skip this patchset. However, it's always recommended you have the latest patchset applied.
    Thanks,

  • How to run JRE from an external USB disk

    Hi
    I wanted to put up a tomcat servlet engine that could run from a USB harddisk without any previous installment on the host machine. The OS of the host machine would be windows 2000.
    My first question would be; is that possible ?
    I think that when i install JRE environment on some w2k machine som registry stuff is created. And my problem here would be, how to run the java without any registry updates and directly from the USB stick that i insert into the machine.
    And my second would be; what should i install of java on the USB to make this work?
    Grateful for any input on this, or any pointers.
    Best regards
    Abid

    You would need the whole JRE on the media, and I would also assume the the full SDK/JDK as many servlet containers use the SDK's java compiler if you're doing JSPs.
    You would then simply install your servlet container and your .war files. Now I believe that registry settings are not mandatory but one must ensure the PATH, JAVA_HOME, and CLASSPATH environment variables are set accordingly, thus a startup script (.bat/.cmd) would be necessary to create the OS environment, spawn the JRE and in turn invoke the servlet container.
    I've never done this with tomcat, but I've done very similar things with Jetty FYI.
