Updating N90 to V 5.0607.73 causes loss of date an...

I have just successfully updated my N90 to 5.0607.73, and now whenever it is turned off it loses the time and date and asks for a new time and date whenever the unit is turned back on!
It worked perfectly before I updated!!

I updated from 3.0545.5.1 to 5.0607.7.3 and my clock stays on.
Couple of things to try...
1. Never switch off :-)
Just switch to Offline profile at night.
2. Format the device
Set the time. Make a fresh backup of your data onto MMC. Format device by switching off > press & hold GRN, 3, * while switching on (until inner display lights up). Restore data.

Operating system causes loss of data during writing to file continuously

Within a while loop I read data from serial port (9,5KByte/sec, bluetooth dongle via serial port protocol) and writes them to a file (text-file) continuously. The operating system interrupts the while loop periodically which causes a loss of data. If I read data from serial port without saving them no data get lost.
E.g. on my PC the OS (W2K) wakes up a second hard disk exactly once per hour which freezes the data saving process to the 'saving' hard disk (and therefore also the while loop, data reading) for about 5-6 sec. On a Laptop the OS (XP, one single hard disk) interrupts the data saving process every 10 minutes for about 1 sec. during the first hour and not any longer afterwards.

so tried to use the 'deny read/write' option of the 'Open File.vi' to prevent other file sweeping applications (backup, anti-virus, Fast Find) to open the file simultaneously which could temporarily deny you write access to the file - no success.
BTW, this concerns also the compiled version of my LV7.1-program.
Any suggestions?

Use two loops, one for reading the serial data and a separate one for writng to the file. The first loop reads the serial port and writes the data to a queue. The second one reads the queue and writes to the file. Put a delay in each loop, perhaps zero milliseconds in the serial loop and 10 ms in the file loop (try various values). This causes the LV scheduler to share CPU time between the two loops.
Now the serial loop will acquire the data and store it in the queue which also serves as a buffer. If the file loop gets blocked by the OS, the data just stacks up in the queue.

Every time isync resets causes loss of data

I have two computers. 1 running 10.4.11, 1 runnin 10.5.5
I frequently sync the PB with 10.5.5. However when I sinc my PB running 10.4.11 the message appeared that .mac was reset and I am asked to replace the data on my computer or on .mac
The same will occur tonight, when I go home and will try to sync again the PB running 10.5.5.
In the past these resets have caused me a lot of grief and loss of data, as the two computers have different contacts and bookmarks.
Of course this never occurred when both computers were running 10.4.11
How can I sync both computers without these random "resets"

If you're syncing between Macs via .Mac/MobileMe, then you are using *MobileMe Sync*, not iSync.

VbCrLf in expressions cause loss of data on export to Excel

I have a report where it is necessary to embed 3 text boxes in a rectangle, which then lives in a Tablix cell:
Within the highlighted cell lives an expression. It was necessary in this case to use commas to separate the values and then manipulate these in Excel to put them on new lines. VbCrLf, VbLf, VbCr were all tried to no avail. There can be
4 of these but only the first 2 would display. The point of the post is to engage discussion really. This is the work around in this case.
What's funny is all other instances of using rectangles to house text boxes works. And of course, it's not string length because there are other parts of the report that work.
Was not able to rapidly find this on Google so got with a consultant here where I work. It has something to do with the ASCII values returned by VbCrLf, VbCr or VbLf that cause truncation to happen in some cases.
It was hard for me to find so I'm passing the knowledge along. Having a handy consultant saved a lot of spinning wheels on dead-end google searches.

According to your description, you have add VbCrLf in an expression to make four values display on different lines within a textbox. But when exporting the report to Excel, only first two values can display, right?
As we tested in our environment, the VbCrLf can work fine both in preview results and Excel. We have specified the expression like below:

The report both in preview mode and Excel work fine. In your scenario, since you mentioned the VbCrLf doesn’t work fine after exporting to Excel, would you please provide some screenshots about results both in preview and Excel for our analysis. Also please
share some sample data and report design.

Type problem into Safari and many folks having same problems wig Hulu and other video/TV apps crashing repeatedly! It's EXTREMELY irritating and aggravating! The apps didn't crash like that until AFTER the latest operating system update for iPads was pushed/downloaded.

Among the alternatives not mentioned... Using a TiVo DVR, rather than the X1; a Roamio Plus or Pro would solve both the concern over the quality of the DVR, as well as providing the MoCA bridge capability the poster so desperately wanted the X1 DVR to provide. (Although the TiVo's support only MoCA 1.1.) Just get a third-party MoCA adapter for the distant location. Why the hang-up on having a device provided by Comcast? This seems especially ironic given the opinions expressed regarding payments over time to Comcast. If a MoCA 2.0 bridge was the requirement, they don't exist outside providers. So couldn't the poster have simply requested a replacement XB3 from the local office and configured it down to only providing MoCA bridging -- and perhaps as a wireless access point? Comcast would bill him the monthly rate for the extra device, but such is the state of MoCA 2.0. Much of the OP sounds like frustration over devices providing capabilities the poster *thinks* they should have.

GC reason: Other, cause: Memleak Request Data

We recently ran into 100% heap allocation issue. In the output obtained with memdbg we get to see mentions of ' GC reason: Other, cause: Memleak Request Data'
Question(s):
1) does this means there is a memleak (the name seems to suggest it but maybe there is another interpretation).
2) when I started a memleak session with jrmc the heap was heavily GC-ed and dropped to 50% (no longer in production of course)
So, was it really a memleak then? I would imagine a real memleak would not go away simply by doing a GC. And if it is not a mem leak why did the GC not kick in anymore? We left the jvm unchanged for more that a week and it did not do a single gc all the time!

On #1 - The Memleak tool can sometime force a GC to collect heap stats, I believe this is what your log message means. It more commonly works in a passive mode, waiting for a GC to happen and then collecting data as part of the normal GC cycle. I don't know when a GC is forced - maybe when you press one of the "update" buttons inside of Memleak?
On #2 - The forced GC probably cleaned up a bunch of garbage, which left the heap with more free space.
So: No, this behavior does not indicate a memory leak (you may or may not have one, of course).

Unfortunately, iOS 7 is too hard to push for the iPhone 4 and therefore has a lot of effects turned off to try to get it to run as smoothly as possible.
However, it becomes better and better with each update coming but it's hard to do anything about the hardware on an already released phones.
If you still have trouble or think they are too hard. My tip is, if so, to restore your iPhone 4 and make a clean setup with no iCloud backup. But all your photos in a photostream so you can access it later.

Correct. The 3G iPod does not have the hardware to support an iOS version higher than 5.1.1
To more easily find compatible apps:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
Starting when iOS 7 was releases, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

The pre-2006 iMacs this forum covers cannot run any higher than OS10.5.8, and Apple pretty much stopped pushing out any updates for anything other than the current version.
If your iMac is a newer model (covered here: iMac (Intel) forum) you can run at least 10.6.8, available for purchase rather cheaply here:

and it's possible you can run higher depending on your iMac variant. So find your iMac variant, please do "About this Mac" from your Apple menu and, in the resulting window, click the "More Info" button to get this screen:
Please tell us the code name ans number for your computer in the line I've indicated with the red arrow. For an iMac, it will either be in the format, "PowerMacX,X" or "iMacX,X" depending on the age of your iMac. The trailing numbers where I put Xs will help us help you determine what exact variant you have and what upgrade options are available.
Also tell us how much RAM is installed. Newer OS versions often need more RAM that older iMacs shipped with.

Make sure you have a backup of your data and the backup folder created by iTunes is also part of it.
