Updating Pioneer 111D firmware VIA external USB connection

Hi all
I have a Pioneer 111D that I would like to update it's firmware from 1.16 to 1.29(?) but since
Pioneer doesn't do any firmware programs for Macs I would like to use my new MacBook (intel)
Bootcamp and do the update with a NewerTech USB 2.0 Universal Drive Adapter (http://www.newertech.com/products/usb2_adapt.php) but I'm not sure if it can be done via USB or it
has to be an internal connection. Any help with this would be very welcomed!!!!
Thanks!!!!

I don't think usb firmware update will work. you could pull the optical and take it to a small pc shop and have them flash it for you.
or try here:

  • Can I use my iPhone or iPad as a web cam for my PC via the USB connection?

I've seen quite a few Apps for doing this wireless, most of which a very poorly executed OR don't work at all. I'm just wondering why it hasn't been more popular to do this via the USB connectivity.

Thanks Lawrence but the point is, I already own the $600 dollar device (given as a gift) and secondly because to purchase a web cam that has the same quality as the iPhone is actually just a bit more than $10 and I'm not really desirous to spend anymore money based on my budget.  Any ideas of whether or not it can actually be done via USB OR do you have experience with an actual App that works via wireless to a PC?  Thanks again...

(InDesign CS5) I have created hundreds of InDesign documents incorporating images stored on an external USB connected drive. I did a manual back-up to another drive at regular intervals but far from ideal.
I now have a network drive which is properly backed-up. I have copied all of the images and folder structure from the USB connected drive to this new drive.
My question is how I get all of the links in my indd files to point to the new drive. I am aware how to do it one file at a time, but is there a way of doing the same thing over many files/folders at a time?

It depends on how you organize your work. If you have one folder for images for a document, relinking one image should alert you that other missing images are in the same folder, but this assumes that images are missing. If the links window sees a clear path to the original location of the images, they aren't missing, so that won't work.
Another thing to try is to select all of the images in the links window and go to the fly-out menu and select Relink To Folder (navigate to the new folder, and you don't even have to select any images by name).
If you store your images in many different folders for the same document, you might want to either package the document to copy all of the images into one folder (you can specify to only copy images if you like) or use the fly-out in the links window (Utilities>Copy Links To…) and select or create a new images folder.

  • HT4929 I have 2nd generation I-pod which does not meet requirements for ICloud.  However, I was told that after I moved to ICloud if I connected my iPod to my Mac via the USB connection that my calendar and contacts would sync, but this didn't happen.

I have a 2nd generation Ipod and just moved to Icloud.  I had been told my an Apple tech that although my contacts and calendar would not sync automatically I could connect the Ipod to my Mac via the USB port and ITunes would sync the calendar.  Now I find that this is not happening.  I am not happy that I will have to enter/edit calendar and contact info on two devices.  Is there something I can do to fix this problem?  Thanks.

one more detail, after a restore, when I attempt to reload music to the ipod, if I try and move, say, 20 files, the transfer seems to work as it should but then stalls on the last file.  Eventually, the status will change to "Updates Files on (my ipod)" a and suggests the iPod is syncing  even though I have the auto sync feature turned off.
This process eventually works itself out, and seems to take longer relative to the number of files I attempt to transfer.   Once done, howver, if I try and eject and dismount the iPod, iTunes stalls with the spinning pinwheel and I am warned that the iPod is syncing again with the spinning candy cane status bar.     Eventually thisd works itself out and the iPod dismounts from iTunes and the desktop and eventually the iPod is free to disconnect.
Then if I try and play the music I just transfered, the iPod says there is no music loaded.
    Ideas?

It may be necessary to place the device in DFU mode (google it).

  • Importing via external usb CD drive to external hard drive-FW or USB?

I want to import my cd collection (no downloads) to a large external drive as AIFF. I'll be backing that up to another large drive later. I'll be using an external usb cd drive to avoid frying my internal cd.
My external hd drive has usb 2.0 and firewire 400 with an Oxford 934 chipset.
Will firewire and usb function simultaneously or should I save via usb ?
I'll be importing a large quantity of cds, and won't have time to check them, should I use Import Settings/Error Correction during import? I'd like to verify if possible.
It's doubtful I'll need to write a cd or dvd from the saved AIFF's as I have the master, but I might.
Anything else I should be considering here? I'm assuming iTunes is the best program for the job.
I'd appreciate any advice or feedback.

there are phones listed that NSU supports if your phone is not listed there is no way you can update your phone's firmware/software unless you goto the nearest nokia care point

  • Data migration to new macbook via external usb?

So I have a macbook pro right now and am looking at getting a macbook. I want to use the data migration assistant during the macbook setup to keep all my files, applications and things from the mbp.
The question is can I use a external usb drive to do this or does it have to be firewire? I wouldn't actually have both computers at the same time, so I would create a restore on the external usb and just plug that intot he new macbook. Would that do?
If not and I need firewire, would a simple usb to firewire adapter work?
    Thanks

Patience sir. People who have an answer will post. If no one does, it's probably too esoteric for most. See "A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs" at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=580146. That should get you started.

  • Updating Media Hub firmware *without* an Internet connection? (+ A few other questions)

    Hi everyone! :-)
I recently purchased an NMH305 in the DSG retail stock clearance, which I am planning on using as a "Black hole" for my audio, video and software collections. Before I begin setting it up though, I need to check on a few things and ask a few questions. :-)
First things first, here's a brief overview of my network and some other stuff:
My network has no connection to the Internet whatsoever. I was previously online with a major UK ISP, but because of numerous connection issues and the fact that a direct connection has negative impacts on my lifestyle, I decided to get rid of it and do without.
Consequently, all of my access to the Internet (E.G: Posting here) is done through local libraries and friends connections.
Most of my systems run Windows XP, but I also have a few Ubuntu, Fedora, and OEM firmware based clients knocking around as well. Windows VII and/or a mass switch-over to Linux may occur in the future.
All network clients are wired up with 100mbps fast ethernet (No wi-fi)
My Media Hub currently has it's 500GB WD Green Caviar installed, but my plan is to replace this with two 500GB 7200rpm Hitachi drives stripped out of USB external caddies for quicker access times, greater peace of mind (I don't really trust Western Digital products) and use the more efficient Caviar as an external HDD insted.
Because I like to keep my systems as "light" as possible; I'd like to skip using the bundled set-up CD (Which'll install a lot of stuff that I don't need) and insted set-up the Media Hub manually using a web browser or terminal connection.
I consider myself to be an experienced and advanced user, and therefore I'm comfortable with the idea of configuring and operating my Media Hub via an SSH or Telnet session.
Downloading, backing-up and restoring Firmware by hand:
Anyhow...The first question I'd like to ask is How can I backup and update the firmware on my media hub using only my local network? I know full well that I can download the firmware images using just a web browser, but I cannot seem to find a direct URL anywhere on the Linksys site. The closest lead I've got so far is http://downloads.linksysbycisco.com/downloads/firmware/NMH_FW_3_18_15_B_ReleaseNotes.txt...But no logical variations of this URL that I've tried (Drop the _ReleaseNotes.txt, try .bin .img .tar .tgz and .tar.gz extensions) have resulted in success. :-(
If anyone has the direct URLs for the firmware images, I'd be most greatful. Failing that, if anyone can tell me the URL that the Media Hub uses to perform a version check (A few packets dumped via WireShark during a check will do) I can follow the HTTP chain from there by hand. :-)
Naturally, I'm assuming that there is a means by which to dump and upload firmware to/from the Media Hub (Via an SSH session, most likely) but if not, would serving the firmware update from one of my own systems (Using a record on my local DNS) work, or does the Media Hub use a secure connection for this?
Operating the Media Hub via SSH/Telnet:
As the Media Hub runs a customised version of Linux, I presume that administration via Telnet and SSH are available. I assume that the default login would be root / admin (I'm assuming the web interface also uses the root account for it's administrative logon) but is that correct...Or would I need different credentials to those for a Telnet/SSH login?
Installing new HDDs: Anything need keeping off the old one?
Finally; As I mentioned above, I'm planning to swap the OEM drive supplied with two others before use. I'm currently leafing through the users manual and am about to come across the procedure given for drive replacement, but given the size of the Media Hub's UI - Which looks to me to be pretty heavily featured - I doubt the whole lot would fit on the Hub's firmware flash...So presumably I'd need to back-up interface data and files from the OEM disk to the new disks first.
Dumping data from one disk to another isn't a problem (dd has become one of my favourite utilities over the past year) but - Thinking from the viewpoint of efficiency - Is it possible to restore the UI data and interface alone (No media lists or cache info - That's better regenerated after) without having to dump the first x sectors from one disk to another?
Also; Given the unit comes with a 5400rpm WD Green Caviar, will the Media Hub's PSU handle two standard 3.5" HDDs (Which could draw about 15-20w each) without problems? :-)
Farewell for now, apologies for the length of this post, and many thanks in advance for any help! >:-)

  • External USB Connected Samsung DVD: Beeping/flashing of OS/applications

I connected this drive (which is an internal model mounted in a NextStar USB 2 enclosure) to the USB port directly on the back of the mini (I have a Belkin powered USB base, and I'm thinking maybe I should try it in that). In any case, a blank DVD was detected, but after a few minutes (while noodling around with iDVD), I noticed folder titles were flickering, the top menus would not "stay" dropped down (I'd have to hold the mouse on them as I mad selections), and I was hearing a repetitive beep/chirp from the system. Unplugging the DVD drive resolved it. The drive works on Windows machines without issue. Is there a power limitation on the mini USB ports, or another issue of some kind?
    Many thanks,
    Mark

    Hi Ron,
As you found out USB can play odd tricks on you when
    you least expect it.
I would say, you concluded that power was the issue,
once a powered hub was used? That is usually the
case, however length of cables can also affect that.
Yes, that's my conclusion, though it would seem inconsistent with what I would believe to be true: That the on-board USB ports are powered and should be able to support the load (especially considering that the external device itself has it's own power supply). Still, no denying that it works fine when connected to the separate Belkin powered hub. I suppose this is one of those "odd tricks".
In the case of my USB enclosure I have no problems
using the included 1 meter cable (Aprox. ~3 feet),
however using a 2 or 3 meter cable, that is a
different story. I need the hub if I use them.
The cable in use with this external drive is about 3 feet long.
A friend seems to have issues with routing his USB
cables. He is OK if he allows them to sag behind his
monitor. If he routes it to close to the rear end of
the monitor he crashes his Mac big time.
I guess we could make a case for interference (power line or otherwise) in that scenario, but, yes, it too sounds a bit odd. I don't feel so bad now.
Thanks for your response. It's much appreciated.

  • HT4106 can you use this device to connect an external usb connection hard drive to the ipad?

I have  an I pad and external hard drive which i want to be able to connect together.... is this the device i need?

You can't connect a USB HD using the camera connection kit.
There are some wireless external hard drives that can be used with the iPad.
The Kingston Wi-Drive, which costs $50 for the 16 Gigabyte, and then $30 more for every 16 gigs more. It works by you turning it on and then accessing the files on it from an app that you download on your iDevice. You can access music, movies, and other stuff. No connections or anything, it works like a WiFi connection, you connect to it from the setting on the iPad under wireless networks.
Then there is the Seagate GoFlex, which some would recommend over the Wi-Drive. But this one costs $199 and had 500 Gigabytes of storage. It works the sameway as the Kingston: no wires, runs over its wireless connection. You can actually fit up to 300 HD movies on it.
    Another option:
Expand your iPad's storage capacity with HyperDrive

  • Capturing video input via a usb connection

i have a usb converter from interview 2.0. one end is the usb input and the other end has two different input options . . . one is an rca video input and the other is an s video input.
is there a way to get this to work with imovie or something else on my pwerbook?

iMovie is a video edit app meant to work with firewire connected miniDV camcorders
.. firewire isn't just a plug and a cable, it is also some protocol standard... that's why you don't need any "drivers" to make iM work with any fw connected camcorder...
some link to the manufacturer of your "converter" would be useful, I can not google any specs with your infos...
but I'm afraid, that is a "PC only" product...
    so:
    a) no, doesn't work with iM
    b) needs some additional apps to get any input into a Mac... usb uses a very "slow" and instable connection, so my guess is, it uses some kind of compression, which isn't natively supported by iM (as mpeg) => needs conversion.... not useful.

  • Cannot update my remote control that is USB connect ability

I have a harmony remote that is programable and update thru a USB .
I have used it in the past as recent as a month ago.
This is what I am receiving when I attempt to log on:
The update is not complete, give permission to write to the applications folder. Check that your firewall software is not blocking the update,
I am not sure what or how to "give permission to write to the Apps folder" means.
Can someone explain that to me.
I have removed the firewall and that did not help.
I recently repaired permissions as a routine maintenance last week.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try repairing it again. At the same time, you might want to repair the disk.
