Updating to KDE 4.7 - memory is leaking

Hello!
After update to KDE 4.7 my system got a memory leak.

As you can see, after 5 hours of uptime, the memory usage increased from ~400Mb to 2,5GB.
After ca. 8 hours system go upon 3GB and begins to swap aggressively. How i can determine which component causes the leak?

you can use ksysguard and look for the library causing the leak. If it's X leaking you will need root privileges to see what leaks what)
Other handy tools are top/htop , xrestop (in case of a pixmap leak like nvidia/kwin combo loves to do) and pmap (with pmap -d `pidof <program>` )
Also what's your GPU / driver and what kwin/compositing rendering engine is in your Desktop effects > Advanced (Xrender or openGL)
Also are you using the QT default rendering engine (native Xrender) or raster or opengl (not the same as kwin's)

[SOLVED]NetworkManager won't work since updating to KDE 4.3.4

I'm running Arch64 on Qosmio X300 notebook. I have just updated to KDE 4.3.4 and since the update the NetworkManager won't connect to my wifi (I haven't tried wired yet). I use following packages for NetworkManager and KNetworkManager applet
kdeplasma-applets-networkmanager 1047027-1
networkmanager 0.7.2-1
There seems to be nothing strange in the daemons.log, but the KNMgr tray icon keeps saying "Networking information not available" and when I click it I get "Network Management Disabled" instead of the usual menu. I still can configure network manually and wicd is also working fine.
I remember putting my notebook to suspend-to-disk by mistake instead of shutting it down right after the update, so that's when it might have gone crazy. I tried reinstalling NetworkManager and the KDE applet and googling around a bit, but nothing has helped so far...

NM is definitely running, "ps aux | grep Network" gives me

I tried uninstall -reinstall method, but the plasma applet still sticks to the "Networking information not available" message.

The first gen iPad has a slower processor (A4) than the iPad 2 (dual-core A5) and iPad 3 (dual-core A5X) and 4 (A6X), and it also has less memory - 256 meg, compared to the iPad 2's 512 meg and the iPad 3 and 4's 1024 meg. My first gen iPad got noticeably slower with iOS 5 than it was with iOS 4, so I doubt that it could cope with iOS 6.

Can't start KDE applications after update to KDE 4.9 [SOLVED]

After updating to KDE 4.9, I can not start systemsettings, kwrite, konversation, digikam or any other KDE application using krunner or from a shell. Non-kde applications starts fine. Any help deeply appreciated!

I got no messages on the terminal, and restarting KDE or even rebooting did not help. But killing some stale processes did, so now I just wonder where those came from...

HP Laserjet p1102w - after firmware upgrade / Smart Install update - down to 1MB free memory

Hello,
I have a Laserjet p1102w running off a laptop with Windows 7 64-bit. Just bought the printer this month.
After updating the firmware to 20120814 version and updating the SmartInstall update utility for the 20120814 version as well, I am now down to 1 MB free memory (out of 8MB originally). [Another LJ p1102w updated prior to these updates has 3MB free memory.]
Because I have 1MB free memory, the printer is almost a brick. It can print simple text based pages - however, printing any page with a graphic or a PDF file will cause the printer to take forever to receive data - essentially preventing printing a page on my new printer (while printing the same page instantaneously on my older nonupdated p1102w).
Is there any way to fix this problem, given there is no memory upgrade option? Otherwise, this printer is a brick.

Hi cyskim,
Did you tried turning the printer off and on after updating the firmware? This should clear its memory, including any memory may affected during the firmware upgrade proccess .

Firefox 26 on OS X 10.9.1 still has huge memory usuage (leak) which leads to crash

Hi, The subject is sort of self explanatory but for the last few months (not sure exactly when) i have had regular Firefox crashes, it seems to happen when i'm out of memory and FF has used all the available RAM.
I have a MBP with i7 and 8gig of RAM using the latest OSX 10.9.1 and latest FF 26. I always keep up to date with the software.
Usually i have about 20 or so tabs open and go back and forth between these. I have googled and read allot on this topic and most people recommend starting in safe mode, without add-ons , creating clean profile etc and i have done these but slowly i get back into the same issue even after a clean profile....
It seems for every FF update the memory usage increases....back in the day FF was extremely fast and efficient. Or maybe latest FF just wants to remember so much and save just to much old information which leads to these ridiculous amount of memory usage, i tend to go over 3-4gig RAM after half a day alone before it crashes and all my tabs are lost which is extremely frustrating. Is there a way to limit the memory usage?
Only helpful tips i have found so far that seems to remove allot of garbage from the cache and the footprint is going to about:memory and run the "minimize memory usage", this has been working great and so far after 2-3 hours its steady on 900meg (more or less) with 16 tabs open.
Isnt this something FF needs to do regularly to get rid of old stuff ? i saw youtube and many other old stuff in the cache which i was not using and caused FF to go over 2 gig or so before i run this so why isnt this automated? as a user i shouldnt need to care about such thins really. I also used Safari for a few weeks with same amount of tabs and it never goes over 800-900 meg.
I really hope you guys can explain and give me some tips as to how to limit the memory usage of FF and not the regular make a clean profile and generic tips. I really think the problem is FF and nothing else. I done extensive testing here and i'm using just a few add-ons

Sorry if i sound irritated but having to lose my tabs daily and being forced to bookmark my tabs constantly just in case FF crashes has been bugging me for a while now and i'm on the verge to switch browser but frankly there is no other browser as good as FF (offering same amount of plugins/add-ons) so i badly want to use FF if possible.

I note that FlashPlayer 12 is now out. When you start testing I guess it would be best to test with that now.

10.2.6 I can't get the update because I "Have insufficient memory"

Hey, I got this Mac used and I don't know much about Macs, but I do know I have about 15 Gigs of memory, and it won't let me install the update from 10.2.6 to 10.2.8 because it says I have insufficient memory. I've had this problem with other programs as well. Any ideas?

Tough call, but here's a basic maintenance tip which might or might not
help out...
First, to repair the main drive:
1) Boot your mac into single user mode by holding down command-S while you boot.
2) At the prompt type: fsck -fy <hit return>
3) If it find any errors and fixes them, run it again until it doesn't.
4) Type: reboot <hit return>
Also, I highly recommend you upgrade that computer to 10.3. It'll run faster and smoother on that machine. You could probably find a copy on ebay without breaking the bank. You could try 10.4 too, but I'd recommend more RAM for that. That said, you might want a bit more RAM anyway.
I mention the upgrade because installing it (using the Archive/Install option) will probably clear up system bugs like that and it's worth it for the improved system.

I have just updated my Mozilla Firefox at the pop-up warning that the version I was using was outdated. I am too confused by such aspects as high memory use (my computer will likely crash if this use continues--even when I am not asking questions of Mozilla Firefox. Can I reverse this choice to upgrade in order to restore all my settings and data?

There are a lot of benefits to running the latest version of Firefox. Can't update due to lack of memory 5230

Hello, I have a a 5230 with a 4gb mem card but cannot install any updates as it says the phone memory is nearly full. How do I get around this?
The phone is about a month old and the mem card was put in yesterday so has barley anythig on it. I have followed some of the guide about best memory use and changed OVI installs to go to the mem card.
I aslo deleted apps like Facebook, Hi8, Amazon etc as suggested with a view to just re-installing Facebook but I can't find the mobile version on OVi for my phone nor does the Mobile version by text link work.

Can't restore iphone 4s after ios7 update, pc keeps eating hd memory, but not restoring?!

I have an iphone 4s and just updated to ios7. However after the update, when I tried to restore my old settings from the backup (which is on my pc), the iphone started eating hd memory until I was left with 28kilobytes of free space. Naturally, I got the low disk space error and the process stopped. Now I can't restore my settings on the updated iphone and I have no memory left on C:\
Please help!

Iphone 5 locked into an Apple screen this morning.
Followed like 5 different suggestions from this forum, regarding connecting to Itunes and restoring.
All attempts on Windows and MAC, Itunes is up to date.
Itunes extracts the software, contacts apple for verification, an then " Notification of error 40".
I have tried this like 15 times now, and nothing is working.
Any real help, beside following an article that I probably already attempted would be appreciated.

Unable to update software due to low memory

i received d alert on my device this morning;asking me to update new software&i downloaded it but i could not install it due to insufficient memory.1.7mb more memory is needed but i hav only 1.1mb left bcos d rest are system files which i cannot delete.pls help me!

Updated my vivaz and the memory card has locked. how do i unlock it ?

Hi, i updated my vivaz last night and i didnt have the memory card in because i didnt want to lose anything. When i put my memory card back in, it says its locked and enter a password. I never put a password on the memory card so how do i sort this and why has it done this ? Its not the original 8gb that you got with the phone, its a san disk 16gb. Could anybody help me with this please ?

Qt update rendered kde apps ugly [SOLVED]

For some reason, having updated to the latest Qt, all my KDE apps started behaving as if no theme was installed. SMplayer can change from the Default (Win-like ) theme to Plastique, but the color remains the same. My point:

K3B is a KDE app, not just a Qt app. SystemSettings > Appearance overrides Qtconfig for KDE apps, so, for them, use Systemsettings (in kdebase-workspace).

Firmware update 9.1.4 and memory

Before installing OS 10.2 or 10.3, I installed firmware update 4.1.9 as required by Apple. This caused my iMac to no longer recognize the (non-Apple) 128 Mb memory module installed about 8 years ago. The Apple System Profiler now lists this memory as "incompatible", leaving me with only 64 Mb of factory installed memory.
If I replace the 128 Mb with new memory, do you think it will be compatible? Has anyone experienced this problem?

Thanks for the good advice. Memory vendors hesitate to say if their generic memory will work. One mentioned memory from Samsung or Micron as good possibilities, though they cost twice as much as generic. Have you any info on specific brands of memory that are likely to work? I would hate to buy memory and have to return it, or worse yet, find nothing that is "compatible". Thanks again!

Hello everyone,
everytime I install a new version of KDE the memory usage increases dramatically. Right now, the free command show around 1 GB of memory usage after startup. Since alot of people write here and in other forums that KDE uses much less memory, I got quite curios about KDE.
I still can remember on the first stable version (4.2), where KDE required around 350 Megs on the same machine...
Anyone got an idea?

I had: blueman, ktorrent, firefox, desktop efects & daisy, ram, cpu plasmoids running and folowing daemons: syslog-ng hal @sensors @bluetooth @alsa @cpufreq @cpudyn @networkmanager @kdm @cdemud @cups
Ram is intended to be used and you have enough ram (as me).
You can't have heavy/candy/user frendly desktop like kde/gnome and few ram used.
If your sistem is responsive all is ok.
If you want more free RAM/CPU, disable strigi and nepomuk services from systemsettings/desktop search.
