Upgrade from ISE 1.1.4 to 1.2 (VMWare)

We are planning to do an upgrade on our ISE runing on VMWare. Our current version is 1.1.4 and we are planning to upgrade it to 1.2. Based on released notes, 1.2 is running on 64-bit and we are currently using 32-bit on our ISE. I have red all releases notes and upgrade guide from Cisco and all doesn't include the upgrade process from 32-bit to 64-bit. I have created the draft for the upgrade plan, here is what I am thinking for the upgrade. Create backup of ISE 1.1.4, install ISE 1.2 to new VMs then restore the databases from 1.4 and from then will upgrade the databases to 1.2.

Hi,
You can run the upgrade stright on, the v1.2 installer takes care of 32 to 64bit conversion.
Edit: You will need to change host OS from RHEL 5 32bit to RHEL 5 64bit.
Is this a stand alone ISE or a depoymentof more then one?
If you have a deployment you can start with your secondary PAN (admin) node. When done the secondary announces that it's v1.2 and when you upgrade the next node, a PSN, it will conect automatically to secondary PAN.
It can be problems when upgrading ISE, but with my latest customer going to 1.2 everything worked as it should.
But I did prepare for the worst with backup of DB, backup of certifiactes + pvk, having access to AD admins etc.
Tip is to copy the upgrade file to the local disk and run upgrade from there and to reset the DB on the PSN nodes to shorten the time of the upgrade.

  • ISE upgrade from 1.1 to 1.2.1 - lost CLI admin password?

    Hi,
    In a mysterious way I lost CLI Admin password in whole my ISE deployment (6 PSN, 1 ADM and 1 MNT node). I wondering how it is possible? Last time I logged to the nodes when I upgrade my deployment from ISE 1.1 to 1.2.1. Is this possible that I could lost password during this upgrade?
    Regards
    Gunter

    Hello Gunter-
    You should have not lost/locked the admin account due to the upgrade. Nonetheless, you will have to follow the CLI password recovery procedure:

  • Machine authenticatiion not working after upgrade to ISE 1.2

    After upgrading to ISE 1.2.0.899 patch 14 we have a problem running machine authentication for a few hosts (30 of about 3000).
    Although we can see on the switch that the host presents the hostname, in ISE Operations all we get is the MAC address (for both the Identity and Endpoint ID fields).
    On the switch:
    show auth sessions int FastEthernet0/1
     Interface:  FastEthernet0/1
     MAC Address:  3c97.0eed.afbc
     IP Address:  Unknown
     User-Name:  host/xxxxxxxxxx
     Status:  Running
     Domain:  UNKNOWN
     Oper host mode:  multi-auth
     Oper control dir:  both
     Session timeout:  N/A
     Idle timeout:  N/A
     Common Session ID:  0AF19F16000138DC11B59C9D
     Acct Session ID:  0x000292EA
     Handle:  0x01000BCA
    Runnable methods list:
           Method   State
           mab      Failed over
           dot1x    Running
    In ISE we see the contents of the attached file.
    The workaround we found was to move the host in a different switch, where it will authenticate, and then move it back on the initial switch where it will work now. I know it doesn't make sense but it worked...
    Shut / no shut on the switch port or clearing the auth session doesn't work.
    Does anybody have any idea about this problem?
    Thanks in advance!
    Update:
    The issue seems to be related with how the policy servers cache the sessions/auth requests from the network devices. If we point the network device that hosts the problematic machines to another radius server the auth runs as expected. A number of machines have problems with a certain policy server (not always the same) while most machines authenticate correctly. The problem is that if, for whatever reason,a machine fails to auth, that policy server could "decide" to hang to that failed auth result for susequent tries.

    On which switch does the reauthentication work?
    Either way, it looks like you need to update the switch software:

  • Upgrading cisco ise

    Hello,
    We are planning to upgrade our ise boxes to 1.1.1.2xx version. I want to know which repository I should use for transferring the image? Which will be faster? sftp, ftp, tftp, http etc?

    Because of RNs (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ise/1.1.1/release_notes/ise111_rn.html#wp376240)
    Before you can upgrade to Cisco ISE, Release 1.1.1 from Release 1.1, you must first be sure you have applied Cisco Identity Services Engine Cumulative Patch 3 to your Release 1.1 machine(s)
    Yes we have a distributed deployment.
    2 admin/monitor nodes ( one primary , other secondary, both VMs)
    4 PSNs (appliances)
    I did not understand this: "
    the administration node took me over 5 hours to fully upgrade, so  when  you upgrade the PSN nodes you may want to reset the database so it   doesnt take as long."

  • Options for Upgrade from OSX 10.4 to Leopard

    Hi all, I started this question over here:
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2592383&tstart=0
    and BDAqua recommended I start a new thread, so here goes:
    My computer has been crazy slow for the last year or two. I have a MacBook with Mac OS X (10.4.11). We've think we want to reinstall the OS, I don't have the original install disks.
    BAqua recommended paying the $29 for the Leopard upgrade, but I noticed here http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html that it says I need to get the full product since I'm on OSX 10.4 - is that true?. Here's what it says on the bottom right:
    Upgrading from Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger.
    If your Intel-based Mac is running Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, purchase the Mac Box Set, which is a single, affordable package that includes Mac OS X v10.6.3 Snow Leopard; iLife, with the latest versions of iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb, and iDVD; and iWork, Apple’s productivity suite for home and office including Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.
    I'm not sure it's worth $169 to upgrade the OS - especially considering we don't even know if it's a hardware problem.
    Also, can I do a complete reinstall with the upgrade disk anyways? My husband has worked on PCs for a long time, but wasn't sure what to do about a Mac that has what appears to be a lot of corrupted settings. He tried to create a new user and copy the setting over (seems like common advice on these forums), but my computer hangs forever when trying to create a new user. He figures it's faster to just reinstall than try and fix it one problem at a time. Thoughts?
    Thanks so much!

    There have been reports from users who have bought the $29. package
    and used it to install a newer Snow Leopard 10.6.x system in a supported
    Mac computer model that was capable of using that version.
    Snow Leopard 10.6 is the current production version; Leopard 10.5 is not.
    With enough free space (capacity, unused) on the computer's hard disk
    drive, a new system could be installed; an Upgrade & Install, if you had
    a newer retail install DVD. But too full of a hard disk drive, and it won't
    work; neither would an Archive & Install, where you choose to have the
    new system save and use the old user account & setup info. If the Mac
    has too much stuff on the hard disk drive, it has to be dealt with first.
    And the computer system itself is separate from the user acct issues.
    The 10.6 upgrade is a full installer, according to those who have used it;
    but the better deal would be to get the large 'complete package deal' due
    to the addition of the other software, each in a retail package version, to
    add those other apps that the upgrade installer by itself won't include.
    And the older Tiger-level versions are fairly outdated to try and use in the
    Mac once you've upgraded the OS from 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard 10.6.x.
    Usual issues as you describe that are affecting your computer use, tend
    to be related to a few factors; issues contributing to slowness and sluggish
    performance, include: a too-full hard disk drive, in adequate RAM installed
    to run certain Apps. And a combination of a fuller than desired hard disk
    drive plus inadequate available RAM installed, can make a system slow.
    RAM is on-chip random access memory; HDD capacity is storage space.
    Not to confuse these; however the computer will use larger sections of free
    hard disk drive space. Unused capacity, used as Virtual Memory helps the
    Mac OS X system and Apps you may be using, handle the workload and
    temp files, swap space, Virtual Memory and other workings, are comprom-
    ised by a lack of sufficient free or unused hard disk drive capacity.
    Also, in addition to the above, certain cache files in the system, and other
    items addressed by routine and preventative maintenance, can grow to a
    point where they can slow the system. So, trying to install an upgrade over
    a problem not directly related to the system, only will layer the first problem.
    The symptoms you describe indicate the problem is probably due to the
    hard drive being near full capacity; or perhaps it has bad sectors and a
    part of the hard disk drive is not longer accessible to the Mac OS X, so the
    computer is working around the lack of space needed as Virtual Memory;
    and has gotten way slow in trying to find temporary work space, under load.
    IF the internal drive in the computer is more than 75 to 85% full, it likely is
    overdue for some clearing out; image files, music files, libraries of these
    can use up plenty of hard disk drive storage capacity. So much, the Mac
    may start to work very hard, and then the usual thing is hard drive failure.
    So, you should consider using an external drive enclosure that can boot
    the computer model you have (some can't.) If your Mac has USB 2.0
    ports, and FireWire400/800, then an external enclosure sporting both
    kinds of ports (FW + USB2.0) with its own power supply; and making a
    complete computer drive clone, on the external drive.
    Once a suitable and boot-capable copy/clone is created on an external
    hard disk drive, and it is tested to see it can start and run the Mac, you
    could choose to use Disk Utility from the clone's utility folder, and have
    it 'repair disk permissions' on the booted clone. Then, it may be OK to
    secure erase (one-pass) the hard disk drive, using Disk Utility's optional
    tools, and choose a partition map (GUID-type) and reformat to HFS+.
    Then, the system which was cloned to the external drive could be re-
    cloned back to the internal hard disk drive. The same Clone utility can
    be used to move or copy an OS X system back & forth. One that I use
    is a free-running donationware/download, named Carbon Copy Cloner.
    Since the computer have/had shipped with a special version of Tiger
    10.4, (Intel-based Macs with Tiger) this would not be able to use a
    retail copy of the Tiger DVD to do a re-install. You could call Apple
    Sales/Support, and tell them the Serial Number of your Mac, and ask
    about getting a replacement original software packet for your computer.
    This would cost a nominal fee; or go for the $29. Snow Leopard one.
    The product specialist you'd talk to about this, at 1-800-MY-APPLE
    may be able to direct you somewhat, if the original Tiger 10.4 replace-
    ment disc set is no longer available for your computer.
    A concern, would be if you were somehow able to install an upgrade to
    a later system into your computer, as it is now (with issues) the problem
    could be worse, since a too-full hard disk drive can be damaged or be
    a cause of software/data loss once you over-fill the drive.
    Also, a portable computer, among others that see a lot of use, may need
    a new/replacement hard disk drive by now; after three to five years run-
    time. They do wear out, and the more they have to work to do read/write
    cycles of use, such as when inadequate chip RAM is installed, to swap
    files and use HDD free space as Virtual Memory, things wear out faster.
    So, the system itself isn't likely the cause of the problem; but is a symptom.
    And you need to have some system discs. The replacement of original discs
    would give you the correct Apple Hardware Test it shipped with; this is not
    on any other version OS X install disc. And the original disc set should be
    included with a computer when it is sold, traded, or gifted away. Plus, any
    other OS X version it may have been upgraded with. To cover all bases.
    Perhaps someone else has a shorter version of this line of thinking, with a
    few good web links to helpful sites? I have fielded three local interruptions
    not related to computers while trying to write what I thought was a simple
    reply to a question; but find it is easier to know the answer than get it out.

  • Is it really possible to upgrade from a Treo 650 to a Treo 750?

    I am not a very happy customer at the moment, but any help would be greatly appreciated. I upgraded from my old Palm Tungsten to a Zire, then to a Cingular Treo 650, combining three devices into one. I have since discovered that the Treo 650 seems to have a faulty transmission mode, as I can rarely be clearly understood by whomever I call. Am on the second (or third, I have lost track) and continue to have the same problem. I get five bars of reception but can't be understood on the other end. A bit of a problem when one is trying to call 911. Am constantly told I am "breaking up". The repair shop says it "Can't duplicate the problem". OK, then I do not want to give up all the info I have stored in the fool thing, and the 750 seems to have a different system, so I thought I would try that. All the stuff I could find seemed to indicate it wouldn't be a problem to upgrade. When the 750 arrived, I tried to install the software from the CD on my Windows XP computer. No dice. Setup encounters an error and closes. Can't even look at the files, because setup tries to run any time I access the CD. From any drive.  Gave it to my girlfiend to check on her computer, and the CD seemed to run fine. Other CDs work just fine on my computer. Must be some kind of conflict, but what? Tried calling the AT&T number that suggested they could help with setup, and was first connected to the business center, they routed me to the laptop center, who routed me to the network center, who said they would have to bring in the Palm customer service and connected me to a Mac guy that dumped me back to a menu that took me to someone for whom English is a second language with whom I was trying to communicate over a very poor satellite connection. They made no sense anyway. telling me first that I couldn't have two desktops running (wrong, my girlfriend has my old Zire and the CD worked fine) and then insisting that the serial number on my device had to start with a P, when it clearly does not have any alpha characters in it. Gave up on that route of assistance. Managed to get the new ActiveSync installed from my girlfriends computer over the network. Great. Now let's get my 650 synced with Outlook (which I have not used at home) and see if we can move on. Nope. First I have to update Outlook 2000 from the old Win98 to my current XP. Find the old CD, and square that away. OK, now sync to Outlook. Nope. The sync program gives an error, saying it will only sync with Outlook 98, 2000, and XP(2002). Good grief. I have Outlook 2000, and the software apparently does not recognize it. If the Palm doesn't work, there is no reason for me to keep this phone, and I am very close to returning it and abandoning the Palm entirely when I upgrade to something that works, although I dread re-entering all that information.

    Thanks for the feedback. Today I installed an Enterprise version of Office 2007 I purchased a while back, but had not yet installed. Microsoft presented a few challenges, but they were quickly resolved. I then downloaded the appropriate conduit from Palm, and synced the 650 with the handheld overwriting the computer. Then used Active Destop to sync the 750. Satisfied I had moved as much info as possible, I called AT&T and had them move the phone number to the new Treo.
    Bonus! When the guy at AT&T called me on the new phone to verify it, he said it sounded better than my landline.
    Sorry for the streaming paragraph. When it is late I tend to write like I think.

  • Can't print from IE 8 after upgrading from Vista to Windows 7

    My laptop (HP Elitebook 8530w) uses two HP printers: Color LaserJet CP3525x (at work) and Deskjet 6940 (at home). Both printers are accessed across a local network.
    I recently upgraded from Vista Enterprise to Windows 7 Enterprise.
    Everything still prints fine (from Word, Adobe Reader, Windows Photo Viewer, etc.), except for IE 8! When I try to print a web page from IE, it prints only the page header, and otherwise the sheet is empty. This symptom occurs on both printers. (And of course this worked fine before the upgrade.)
    Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

    If anyone else is having this problem, I found the solution on another forum (http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/InternetExplorer/thread/920588e5-ccc4-4e24-83d6-606...).
    Specifically, the following steps solved the problem:
    1. If it doesn't already exist, create a directory named "Low" in your directory "C:\Users\<your_user_name>\AppData\Local\Temp\".
    2. From a command prompt, issue this command:  ICACLS C:\Users\<your_user_name>\AppData\Local\Temp\Low /setintegritylevel (OI)(CI)low

    Regards,
    A.Kamel

  • Slow table creation after upgrade from 10.2.0.3 to 11.2.0.1 using DBUA

    I've recently completed a database upgrade from 10.2.0.3 to 11.2.0.1 using the DBUA.
    I've since encountered a slowdown when running a script which drops and recreates a series of ~250 tables. The script normally runs in around 19 seconds. After the upgrade, the script requires ~2 minutes to run.
    By chance has anyone encountered something similar?
    The problem may be related to the behavior of an "after CREATE on schema" trigger which grants select privileges to a role through the use of a dbms_job call; between 10g and the database that was upgraded from 10G to 11g. Currently researching this angle.
    I will be using the following table creation DDL for this abbreviated test case:
    create table ALLIANCE  (
       ALLIANCEID           NUMBER(10)                      not null,
       NAME                 VARCHAR2(40)                    not null,
       CREATION_DATE        DATE,
       constraint PK_ALLIANCE primary key (ALLIANCEID)
               using index
           tablespace LIVE_INDEX
    tablespace LIVE_DATA;When calling the above DDL, an "after CREATE on schema" trigger is fired which schedules a job to immediately run to grant select privilege to a role for the table which was just created:
    create or replace
    trigger select_grant
    after CREATE on schema
    declare
        l_str varchar2(255);
        l_job number;
    begin
        if ( ora_dict_obj_type = 'TABLE' ) then
            l_str := 'execute immediate "grant select on ' ||
                                         ora_dict_obj_name ||
                                        ' to select_role";';
            dbms_job.submit( l_job, replace(l_str,'"','''') );
        end if;
    end;
    {code}
    Below I've included data on two separate test runs.  The first is on the upgraded database and includes optimizer parameters and an abbreviated TKPROF.  I've also, included the offending sys generate SQL which is not issued when the same test is run on a 10g environment that has been set up with a similar test case.  The 10g test run's TKPROF is also included below.
    The version of the database is 11.2.0.1.

    So while this certainly isn't the most elegant of solutions, and most assuredly isn't in the realm of supported by Oracle...
    I've used the DBMS_IJOB.DROP_USER_JOBS('username'); package to remove the 194558 orphaned job entries from the job$ table. Don't ask, I've no clue how they all got there; but I've prepared some evil looks to unleash upon certain developers tomorrow morning.
    Not being able to reorganize the JOB$ table to free the now wasted ~67MB of space I've opted to create a new index on the JOB$ table to sidestep the full table scan.
    CREATE INDEX SYS.JOB_F1_THIS_NEXT ON SYS.JOB$ (FIELD1, THIS_DATE, NEXT_DATE) TABLESPACE SYSTEM;The next option would be to try to find a way to grant the select privilege to the role without using the aforementioned "after CREATE on schema" trigger and dbms_job call. This method was adopted to cover situations in which a developer manually added a table directly to the database rather than using the provided scripts to recreate their test environment.
    I assume that the following quote from the 11gR2 documentation is mistaken, and there is no such beast as "create or replace table" in 11g:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10592/statements_9003.htm#i2061306
    "Dropping a table invalidates dependent objects and removes object privileges on the table. If you want to re-create the table, then you must regrant object privileges on the table, re-create the indexes, integrity constraints, and triggers for the table, and respecify its storage parameters. Truncating and replacing have none of these effects. Therefore, removing rows with the TRUNCATE statement or replacing the table with a *CREATE OR REPLACE TABLE* statement can be more efficient than dropping and re-creating a table."

  • Since upgrade from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 the conversations in Outlook do not group by subject

    Hi Microsoft,
    Since we have upgraded from Exchange 2007 to 2013 users complain their conversations in Outlook are no longer grouped based on the subject of an e-mail. I looks like Outlook uses other message properties for grouping e-mails in a conversation.
    I have investigated all the forum topics and see that with exchange 2010 there is support added for the use of conversation-ID's. However the functionality to automatically group e-mails with the same subject in one conversation in Outlook is gone!
    I would like to know if there is a fix to implement so that some our users get this functionality back. For Example: Let the exchange server not generate conversation-ID's and message-ID's for certain users.
    Your help is greatly appreciated!

    Totally correct!
    If you don't plan to maintain Outlook then you plan to fail :(
