Upgrade G3 B&W and G4 Single Processor from OS 9.2.1 to 10.4 Tiger?

I Purchased a G4 Installation / restore disk OS 10.4......Used an external DVD drive and disk opens fine on both machines, but when I click on install, both machines give me the following error message (even if I use the "C" key on startup..."startup disk was unable to select the install CD as the startup disk (-2)....There is no support for OS 9 or it's related browsers on the internet, and I use both my G3 (home) and G4 (business)....I need to have access to the internet in both locations. Would someone kindly give me some advice on how to upgrade to OS 10.4.......drivers?.......use external Hard drive? Many thanks in advance......

Hi Limnos......Many thanks for the info...good stuff. As it turns out, my G3 B&W is a server version and was given to me by a company that I worked for until they moved to northern (brrr) Wisconsin. It has two SCSI cards, one of them the LVD -2 ADPT card. Thanks to you I have already installed the firmware on the card. Some of the info on trhe G3 suggests that I need to be running O.S. 8.6 to upgrade to O.S. X???? I have been running O.S.9.2.1 for years but Comcast, E- Bay and half the rest of the world out there no longer supports Browsers, etc. for O.S. 9....Why would I need 8 when I have 9.2.1.that doesn't make much sense. This computer IMHO was way ahead of it's time and cost the company that gave it to me something in the neighborhood of $2700.00 when they bought it new! It has two firewire ports along with USB and the SCSI
cards and SCSI hard drive.....It is a great computer, and the only reason that I never tried to upgrade to O.S.10
sooner is the fact that it has been rock solid reliable running 9.2.1, and I kept hearing about "glitches going on with the early versions of O.S.10." You know how that one goes..."If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it". I had Adelphia Cable Internet for quite a few years, and they supported O.S.9, but their tech people for the most part were clueless about the macs. I really need to get X on this machine!
One final question...My G4 is a single processor 733 machine, and believe it or not was given to my son when it was only a year old! We didn't get an O.S. install disk with it, but the (gray) disk I just purchased IS
a G4 (specific) install/ restore disk that according to many threads I've seen should work on my G4. I haven't been able to determine from the info you so kindly gave me if it needs a firmware update or not? There seem to be so many versions of the G4 that I'm not sure what category it fits into as far as firmware requirements are concerned........It has plenty of RAM and two firewire ports, but beyond that I'm puzzled. How long did you wait for the systm to catch up to your request for more storage? it can take a little while, up to an hour sometimes I have heard.
If you don't see any more room after waiting a while, try resetting your phone to see if it appears then.

I just recently upgraded my labview program from version 6.1 to version 8.2 and now I'm converting over some of my VIs from the previous version. I'm looking for equivalent VIs to AI single scan and AO single update.

The functions are available if you install traditional DAQ as well as DAQmx but since the traditional DAQ driver is no longer getting updates, you'll want to transition to DAQmx. You are wrong. You can create table inside a PL/SQL using execute immediate. But, this is not a good practise. I think you should reconsider the logic and then use such programming code. Please read the Oracle documentation regarding execute immediate.

Back in August I asked several questions concerning the above, and a person named LIMNOS gave me some great info. Since both of my computers have only CD drives, he stated that I would need an external (firewire) DVD drive to do the installation. Am I to understand that all of the newer Macs that utilize DVD drives are firewire powered? If so, where can I purchase a couple of internal (firewire) DVD drives for my computers? I have only seen USB DVD drives in various stores, both external and internal......what's with that? I tried using an external USB DVD drive, and it opened the Gray G4 install/restore disk that I have, but It won't seem to go beyond that. I have taken LIMNOS advice and updated the firmware for both computers, and would like to know if I must Zero my HD's, or can I also install the OS into a partition, or even an external HD? I do graphic design, and have been running Macs for ten years (is there anything else?), But I need the ability to "bounce" back and forth between OS9 "classic" and OS 10......Any and all suggestions and info would be greatly appreciated.......Awesome Forum.........keep up the great work..........MACS RULE" !

Internal drives don't use USB or FireWire. Just buy a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-115D.
Most computer stores don't stock external FireWire DVD drives because FireWire is not standard on a PC. You can buy them from:

Grey disks are for a particular computer model. They may not work with yours. To be sure, you need the black retail discs.

I'm currently using SSO (Apex engine registered as partner application in Oracle SSO) with Apex 3.1 and have couple of Apex apps using Oracle SSO.
If I upgrade to Apex 4.0, will my current configuration be untouched or do I need to re-register Apex in SSO?

I currently have a family plan with 5 lines (1 basic phone, 2 iphone 4s, and 1 blackberry bold). Both iphone 4s phones have 2gb of Internet data a month and the blackberry has unlimited internet data. I have 2 upgrades on my family plan, the iphone 4s and blackberry. If I transfer the upgrade from the 4s to the basic phone and then get the new iphone 5 from the basic phone upgrade (I would have to get the 2gb data plan when i purchase iphone 5 for the contract price), can I then put the iphone 5 on the blackberry line (basically just switch phones) to keep my unlimited data, then put the basic phone back where it was and cancel the 2gb data plan (not get charged the $30 for the month)? I have read and heard that this can happen and was wondering if I could do it.
Any help and if would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if this has already been posted.

If the iPhone 4S, already has the 2GB data plan and it is eligible for an upgrade, why don't you order the iPhone 5 on that line? You would extend the contract on the iPhone 4S line and then you can use the iPhone 5 on the BlackBerry line.

Upgraded itunes whilst abroad and now cant buy from store

I upgraded my itunes to version 7 whilst staying with a friend in Poland and after installation a message popped up saying that the itunes store is not available in this country so I cant download anything from the store.

Mac OS X 10.6.8 is Snow Leopard and can be upgraded directly to Mountain Lion 10.8 without going through Lion 10.7.
