Upgrade MacPro1,1 with ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB and Open GL 1.7.7. to recommended system requirements for heli simulator: OpenGL Version 2.1 compatible 3D-graphics card from NVIDIA or ATI with 512MB.

I want to install a helicopter simulator into my MacPro1,1 with ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB and Open GL 1.7.7. Recommended system requirements for the heli simulator are: OpenGL Version 2.1 compatible 3D-graphics card from NVIDIA or ATI with 512MB (at least as fast as NVIDIA 8600, 9400 or ATI Radeon HD 2400). Is there such a graphics card available that will work in my Mac Pro?

Are you really still running 10.6.3? you will need 10.6.5+ so do that and make a clone.
ATI 5770 from Apple Store - like 1000s of others have done and in the comments section on the store page.

  • Alternatives to ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB

    Hi Guys,
I'm pretty sure my ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB graphics card has failed...
I run MacPro1,1 (2008) Dual-Core Intel Xeon with 2 x 23-inch DVI Apple Cinema Displays. Tonight only one of the screens would wake from sleep - the screen in port 2.
    I've tried...
    1. Swapping the DVI cables, this results in the non waking screen waking and the waking screen, not waking.
    2. Tried running just one screen off DVI port 1 and nothing happened, blank screen but power light on.
    3. Tried running same screen off DVI port 2 and still nothing happened, blank screen but power light on.
To re-cap - None of the DVI ports work on their own and only Port 2 works when both screens are plugged in.
So... is there any other tests or checks I can do to confirm 100% it's a faulty card? I've unplugged and done the SMC reset.
Secone part to this - if the card is shot can anyone recommend an upgrade to the ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB?
    Thanks
    Pete

You could use a Mini-DisplayPort to DVI adaptor on one of the ports, I would think. Otherwise, you don't have two many choices. You might look for a used ATI 4870, Mac Edition model. It's performance will be similar to the 5770 since the 2006 MP only has PCI-e 1.0 slots so the 5770 can't take advantage of it's capabilities if installed in a PCI-e 2.0 slot.
Other cards that will work include the older Nvidia 8800 GT for Mac. You must be sure with these other cards that you look for the ones that are compatible with a Mac Pro. These were the ones made specifically for Apple. Non-Apple cards will not work unless you have the hardware, ability, and knowledge to re-flash ROMs.

  • ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB graphics card has failed?

I think my ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB graphics card has failed...
This is a MacPro 1,1 (2006). We're on our yacht in a French territory, South Pacific, so local support is non-obtainium. I would appreciate any advice on how I can confirm my graphics card is dead.
I have only 23" Apple Cinema Display for testing. The display works great on MBP, so that end is good.
The MacPro seems to boot normally - AFAIK based on startup sounds, fan, RAM LED diagnostic lights.
    Suggestions?

Case A) the screen goes blank at the login screen
invoke Safe Mode (hold down the Shift key at Startup).
This performs a five minutes or so Disk Utility ( Repair Disk) on the boot drive, then demands your userId and password, even if you normally auto-login.
Safe Mode only loads the absolutely essential Drivers, and the graphics drivers are not considered essential. So screen re-draw may be slow, but you can check your email, surf a little, do many operations that do not require graphics acceleration.
    Edit movies? Probably not.
Case B) your screen completely blank
If the power-on light flashes in a pattern, that indicates not enough good RAM to start up.
If no power light flashing, you need some function you can invoke that will show a non-graphics result.
The Caps Lock light on the keyboard is under software Control. If it works, at least the SMC controller that talks to the keyboard is working.
Holding down Control while pressing the Eject key on the keyboard brings up this familiar dialog box, whether you can see it or not:
    any key except:
    R for Restart;
    S for Sleep;
    Esc for cancel;
and return for the default Shut Down
should cause the System Beep sound. S should Sleep it, and the power light should shortly indicate that it is sleeping. Any key will then wake it up.

  • Problem with upgrading Graphics Card from GTX 635 to GTX 960

    Greetings,
I'm new to upgrading hardware in computers but have decided that I wanted to upgrade my graphics card in my HP Envy 700 - 329 (Nvidia GTX 635) to an Nvidia GTX 635. The only problem is I have never opened a computer and have no idea what cable to put where or how to take my old Graphics Card out to put my new one in, and I'm very worried because I might mess up.  Is there any video tutorial/ guide out there that is convinient to my desktop for me to upgrade?
    Thanks,
    Marwan
P.S. Is the space in the Envy 700-329 large enough for the GTX 960?

    Hi there
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you are looking at upgrading your internal video adapter from a Nvidia GTX 635 to a Nvidia GTX 690. I am happy to help with this. FIrst thing, you must be aware of before you buy any video adapter upgrade, is the power requirements of the card, the recommended minimum output for the computer's power supply,  the size of the card, the required expansion slot type, and the type of power connectors that must be available for the card from your system power supply. Starting with a comparison of the card you have with the one you are thinking to install:GeForce GT 635 (OEM) Specifications - www.geforce.comBus Support - PCI-E 3.0 Height 2.731 inchesLength 5.70 inchesslotWidth SingleMaximum Graphics Card Power (W)  35W GeForce GTX 690 Specifications - www.geforce.comBus Support - PCI Express 3.0Height 4.776 inchesLength 11.0 inchesslotWidth Dual-slotMaximum Graphics Card Power (W)               300WMinimum System Power Requirement (W) 650WSupplementary Power Connectors                Two 8-pin Your computer has the following:
Power Supply Internal Total wattage: 460W  - too lowDimensions: 150mm x 140mm x 86mm (5.9 x 5.5 x 3.4 inches) I have highlighted the items you will need to be aware of in red, before trying to install this card. Because the stock power supply is 460W, it will also need to be replaced, because the card requires that your power supply meet a minimum output of 650W, and that power supply needs to also have two 8-pin supplementary power connectors. I included the dimensions of your current power supply so you have a guide to the type of space you have and form of the power supply to help with finding something that will fit in that space. Also I highlighted the fact that the card you are looking at is significantly larger in all dimensions, so you can make sure it will fit inside the case or have an idea of what cabling may need to be moved, and because it is a dual-slot width, it may block another slot on your main board. Because of all of these issues you may want to consider talking to a local computer tech or a tech savvy friend to help you with this, and maybe save some money as well. I did not include the instructions on how to replace the card itself, because of the other issues, which you will need to check on first. I hope this helps, or does not confuse the matter more, but reading your post I realized you were probably not aware of these little roadblocks.

  • Reg: Upgrading my graphics card to NVIDIA geforce GTX 760/780

    Hi,
I am working with a Dell Precision work station 690 which currently uses a NVIDIA QUADRO FX 3450.. I want to upgrade this to a high end graphics card mostly NVIDIA Geforce GTX 760/780.. However , when I read the Specs for Dell Precision work station 690, it is mentioned that is support memory only till 512.. Are high end graphics card compatible with my PC? Will there be any power issues? I have an extra 6 pin cord from PSU on my PC.
    --Thanks ,
    Rama

Check if your chosen video card requires UEFI.
The GeForce GTX 960 failed in my Precision 690.
Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit would not boot with this card.
I believe the issue is that this card requires a motherboard with UEFI which the 690 does not have.
Other posts report that the GeForce 750 Ti fails also because of lack of UEFI.
I found this site on Dell which says that the Radeon R9 280X will work in a 690:
     http://accessories.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&sku=a7272920
Note in the above URL  the requirement for a 1000W power supply. Some video cards require two (2) 6-pin or one (1) 6-pin and one (1) 8-pin connector from the power supply.
    Hope this helps.

  • Laptop with two graphics cards? [Nvidia Optimus - SOLVED]

    Hi,
I just bought a laptop that includes two graphics cards: a low-power Intel one and a high-performance nVidia card. Right now I'm just using the Intel graphics card, and the system only detects it. When I install nVidia drivers I have to uninstall the intel drivers because of incompatibilities, and it doesn't even start the X server. I could attach a log if necessary, but I haven't found anything relevant, it just says that the nVidia driver is not valid for the detected graphics card. Is there a way to use both graphics cards transparently, like in other-operating-systems?
    Some hints? Thank you!

It's called Optimus. Kinda surprised there's people who don't already know about it. Not supported fully in Linux, but there's a hack to get the nvidia card going: Bumblebee

  • System requirements for BO Enterprise XI 3.0 with 3 cloned webi services

    Helllo,
I'm wondering what the system requirements would be for a server to host a BO Enterprise system (XI 3.0) if it is connected to a SAP BW system.
The system should be able to cope with around 150 to 200 calls/requests maximum at a time.
The users log in into SAP and launches a request via an SAP screen with behind that an URL request that is constructed based on a guest account (max 200 requests at the time) for BO. Because it is always the same account (Guest) that is used over and over again I'm wondering what kind of additional requirements the system should support.
We did some stresstesting with 120 simultaneous users. Even with 3 cloned web intelligence processing servers it blocked several times.
For the moment it is running on following hardware specifications:
HRBOXI (Dell PowerEdge 2950 (Servicetag: GMZ834J))
Memory: 8 memory slots available on motherboard of which 2 are used (each is  2GB) Total available memory at this moment is 4GB.
CPU: 2 x Intel Xeon E5420 (quad core). There are 2 CPU sockets on the motherboard that are in use.
    Disks:  2 x 146GB (15K) SAS
On that there is a 32bit operating system in use. We would like to start with upgrading that to 64 bit OS.
Can someone tell me if this machine is suitable for production purposes for BO Enterprise linked to an SAP BW on mainly HR-data? I mean by that does this machine has enough processors to be able to cope with 3 cloned webintelligence services at a time. And also enough RAM memory?
    Many thanks Thierry Renaer

  • What is the system requirements for MAM3.0 with MI7.1

    Hi Experts,
We are planning to Install MI7.1 and want to deploy MAM3.0 application. Till now we are using MI2.5, now we want to upgrade this to MI7.1. Can any body please tell me what is the requirements of
    Server
    Client
    MAM Version
    Client Database
Also please tell me whether MAM3.0 supports MI7.1 for PDA.
Your help in this regard is highly appreciable.
    Regards,
    Murthy.

    Hi Murthy,
first of all MI7.1 is not generally available at the moment. Secondly MAM3.0 is not working with MI7.1. There will be a MAM verison especially for MI7.1 available, but the release date is not official jet. Rumors tell something about next year - but as I said, no official date is mentioned.
So I guess it is a wise decision to wait a little longer.
And be aware with MI7.1 to UI of MAM has changed completely. It is not longer based in JSP - so all your enhancements need a complete rewrite!
Beside that the requirements are totally open - cause nothing is officially released yet.
    Regards,
    Oliver
