Upgrade of Integation Services (Windows 2012 R2) on Windows 2008 R2 with Exchange 2013 SP1 DAG fails

Here is the scenario:
Legacy Host: Windows 2008 R2
Guest VM: Windows 2008 R2 with Exchange 2013 SP1 DAG cluster.
After importing the VM (2008 R2 and Exchange 2013 DAG) into a 2012 R2 host (Cluster).  (copy VM files to new 2012 R2host) Everything works fine.
Then upgrading "Installation Services" (for Windows 2012 R2 host) on the imported VM runs fine with no errors to the "Restart" prompt. VM than shows: "Configuring Windows updates 32% complete. Do not turn
of your computer." Hangs there for about 20 minutes until is says "shutting down". Hangs there for 20 minutes until power off. Restart to normal start; "Preparing to configure Windows. Do not turnoff your computer." proceeds slowly
to "Configuring Windows updates 32% complete. Do not turn of your computer." hangs there again indefinite. Sometime hangs at shutdown cycle and "Configuring Windows updates 32% complete. Do not turn of your computer." indefinitely.
I moved 20 other machines from a 2008 R2 host to new Windows 2012 R2 hosts all of these machines install the 2012 R2 Integration services just fine on the 2008 R2 VM. Just the 2008 R2 VMs clustered (DAG) and Exchange 2013 SP1 do not take the Integration
Services upgrade.
Any advise from Microsoft? I know I could decommission the DAG and Exchange machines and install Integration services on the native box before Exchange and DAG and that would sure work, but I'd rather avoid that amount of work for a simple integration layer
upgrade.

Hi,
Could you try use the following method to fix this issue first?
1. Run the System Update Readiness Tool, then check if there is any error in the Checksur.log and checksur.persist.log.
 1. Please run the System Update Readiness Tool on this affected server. Please download this tool from the following Microsoft article:
Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, and for Windows 7
 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821/en-us
2. The System Update Readiness Tool creates the log files that captures any issues that the tool found or fixed. The log files are located at the following location:
%SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\
3. Please paste the checksur.log here for analysis.
If there is no error found, please try the following step.
==================================
2. Use Fix it tool to reset the Windows Update components.
 1. Open the following link.
 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en-nz
 2. Select Windows 8.1, Windows 8 and Windows 7 in the product selection box.
 3. Click “Run Now” to reset the Windows Update components.
Note: We can reset the Windows Updates manually by following the steps in the KB above.
3. Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files
 1. Open the command promote with Administrators.
 2. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
     sfc /scannow
Any errors are found in the steps above, please let me know.
Hope this helpful.

    Hello Scott,
The Visual Studio 2012 SDK need Visual Studio 2012 but not Visual Studio 2013. Please make sure you will use Visual Studio 2012 on your OS.
Here are the system requirement of that:
    Supported Operating System
                        Windows 7 Service Pack 1; Windows 8; Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1; Windows Server 2012
    Windows 7 SP1 (x86 and x64)
    Windows 8 (x86 and x64)
    Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (x64)
    Windows Server 2012 (x64)
    Hardware Requirements:
    1.6 GHz or faster processor
1 GB of RAM (1.5 GB if running on a virtual machine)
300 MB of available hard disk space
    5400 RPM hard drive
DirectX 9-capable video card running at 1024 x 768 or higher display resolution
    Prerequisites:
Visual Studio Professional 2012 or higher
Here higher means Visual Studio 2012 higher version, for example, Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate.
If you want Visual Studio 2013 to work, I think you need to install the Visual Studio 2013 SDK.
    Best regards,
    Barry

    Hello,
Please make sure you do exchange server upgrading or a clean exchange 2013 installation. If you do a upgrading, please refer to the similar thread to assign a database to the arbitration mailbox "SystemMailbox{bb558c35-97f1-4cb9-8ff7-d53741dc928c}".
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/239cb4a6-4a07-4b9a-800c-974573bbff32/error-installing-step-12-mailbox-role-service-on-exchange-2013-cu2?forum=exchangesvrdeploy
Please make sure you have these permission "Schema Admins, Domain Admins and Enterprise Admins" to install exchange 2013 server.
If this is a clean exchange 2013 installation, please try to recreate the system mailbox to check the result.

  • SCDPM 2012 R2 Backup with Exchange 2013 SP1 CU6 DAG

    Hi,
    Correct me if I'm wrong.
    DAG setup as follow,
    1. Server1\MBX01 (Active)
    2. Server2\MBX01 (Passive)
    DPM
    1. Select Full for Active
    2. Select Copy for Passive
We always select active copy so that logs can be purge.  On the other hand, if we select backup passive copy and purge logs. My guess is logs will be replicated from Active copy.
How about when active copy change passive copy?  Do I need to change the backup option?
    Please advice. Thanks.
    Kelvin Teang

    Hi,
It sounds like an exchange problem - this was the application event log entry on the passive node after taking an incremental backup from DPM.  After the below event was posted, I checked both active and passive node and the logs were successfully truncated.
It took a few minutes before the logs were deleted.

  • I plan to Integrate AD RMS 2012 with Exchange 2013 SP1

    To use
right policy templates with OWA, Outlook and Moblie Phone ,a CAL is required
    or not ?

AFAIK, You just need a standard Windows CALs to use ADRMS.

  • Exchange 2013 sp1 DAG problem on Wondows 2012 r2

     Hi,
I have configured this on my servers. It seems to be working almost 100%.
When I look at  server-databeses in ecp  I see the DB is healthy both active and psssive.
     When I run  this (Get-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup) | ForEach {$_.Servers | ForEach {Test-ReplicationHealth -Server $_}}
I get DatabaseAvailabilty   FAILED  on  both  active and passife  DB.
When I Switchover to the other sever I get no errors  but in ca. 2 min it Switches back.
If I try to move mailbox from Exchange 2010 sp3 to  Exchange 2013 sp3 I get
    Data migrated: 1.327 GB ‎(1,425,379,174 bytes)‎
    Migration rate: 0 B ‎(0 bytes)‎
Error: MigrationPermanentException: Error: Mailbox changes failed to replicate. Database 18475dc2-2111-4da6-854b-6583d42c9279 doesn‎'t satisfy the constraint SecondCopy because the commit time 3/12/2014 12:17:49 PM isn‎'t guaranteed by replication
    time 1/1/0001 12:00:00 AM.
I admit that I had this configured before I installed SP3 :( Do I need to delete the DAG and create it again?
    thanks.

  • Exchange 2013 SP1 and SCOM 2012 R2

    Hi there,
Hopefully someone can assist me with this issue, if it is one...
I am halfway through an Exchange migration, from Exchange 2010 SP3 on Server 2008 R2 to Exchange 2013 SP1 on Server 2012 R2.
76 users in total, roughly 80GB of Public Folders.
I have configured the 2013 environment with a cross datacenter DAG, also increased all of the timeouts of the cluster to take this into consideration, and everything appears to function as expected.
Added both 2013 machines to SCOM 2012 R2 for at least a week with no active users on it, and all monitoring reported ok, no issues.
Exchange 2010 is configured to use webmail.company.com for RPC over HTTP, which is what I have configured 2013 to use as well.
Implemented Microsoft ARR for client access to Exchange 2013, as opposed to ISA we've used for Exchange 2010.
A week ago, changed the DNS records for webmail.company.com from ISA to ARR, and all clients connected perfect.
Thought, ok, now we can start the migration. So far everything "seems" to be going perfect with the mailbox moves, however, SCOM is really noisy.
Attempted to reran the probe for EWS and got the error below:
Is there perhaps anyone that can assist me with these errors?
    Cheers

FYI... IIS ARR is not supported for Exchange Server.
Check in event log if you are getting anything related to the issue.
About Outlook POP UP to end users. Check the event log on 2010/2013 for MRS events.
Are those mailboxes still moving or in move request?

  • Setup Error 1603 with Exchange 2013 incl. SP1 on Windows Server 2012 R2

    Hello all,
i've started the installation of a new Exchange 2013 with SP1 in a Windows 2012 R2 environment. New AD, no Exchange previously installed. Exchange ISO from
Volume Licensing Service Center (Filename: SW_DVD9_Exchange_Svr_2013w_SP1_MultiLang_Std_Ent_MLF_X19-35118.iso)
All the prerequisites are ok, installed also the “Unified Communications Managed API (UCMA) 4.0″ as requested.
Setup.exe i've started with "run as administrator" and all went well, until Step 11 of 15 (Mailbox role:Mailbox service).
Setup stopped and gives an error:

Exchange ECP is not working (HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found), EMS (Shell) is working - if i try a get-mailboxserver it gives me the correct servername.

What happens to the existing  (corrupt) installation of the exchange which is not working ?
    Thanks for your help
    Bruno

    Hi,
From the error message, the cabinet file 'EngineInstanceData.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. I'm afraid you have to download a new ISO for Exchange 2013 incl. SP1 and run the setup again.
If it still doesn't work, I recommend you remove the failed Exchange server installation, then re-install Exchange server.

  • Migrate to Windows 2012 R2 and Exchange 2013 SP1 using database portability

Hi, I'm planning to migrate from Exchange 2013 SP1 running on Windows 2012 to Exchange 2013 SP1 on Windows 2012 R2.
Is it possible to use database portability to move the databases from the exchange installation on win 2012 to the new installation on Win 2012 R2? This would save a great deal of time not doing the mailbox moves.
I've searched similar cases but couldn't find any, all speak about disaster recovery and database portability but I've found no articles that uses the migration scenario.
Would it be possible to do and if so, what would the steps be? Do I need to delete the database from the source server, move the database files to the new server and mount them and relocate the mailboxes? Or should I dismount the database on the source server,
move them to the new server and mount them and relocate the mailboxes?
    Frank.

    Hi,
According to your description, I recommend you consider using DAG to achieve your requirement.
The following steps for your reference:
1.Prepare a new server which installed windows 2012 R2 for Exchange 2013 mailbox server.
2.After you deploy Exchange 2013 Mailbox servers, you can create a DAG, add Mailbox servers to the DAG, and then replicate mailbox databases between the DAG members.
3.After replication, you can mount all the databases on the new server.
    Hope this helps!
    Thanks.

This no way a resolution. This won't work at all as Both OS will be different and you can't form the Cluster.
    Please Unmark it!

  • Can't get OWA to work on Essentials 2012 R2 with Exchange 2013 on second server 2012 R2 std.

I have previously with success setup a working solution with server 2012 essentials, and a second server 2012 std. with exchange 2013, I did it following this guide: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj200172.aspx
Unfortunately I lost the server due to a cooling error which led to an un-repairable essentials 2012, since this was a new setup and also a test setup I didn't have any working backup solution setup at the time...tsk.tsk.
Since I had to make a complete do over I chose to try out the new R2 server editions, and set it up following the same guide, when it came to this part:
Download KB2732764 for ARR 2.5, and then install the update on the server that is running Windows Server 2012 Essentials.
Copy the SSL certificate file for Exchange Server to the server that is running Windows Server 2012 Essentials. The certificate file must contain the private key, and it must be in the PFX file format.
    Note
If you are using a self-issued certificate, follow the instruction in the Exchange Server article Export an Exchange Certificate to export the certificate.
Open a command window as an administrator, and then open the %ProgramFiles%\Windows Server\Bin directory.
Based on you installation scenario, follow one of these steps to configure ARR:
If you are performing a clean setup, run the following command:
ARRConfig config –cert “path to the certificate file” –hostnames “host names for Exchange Server”
I noticed that the version of "Application request routing" had changed to version 3, so obviously I didn't need to dl the 2.5 update.. When I came to the part where I wa instructed to run arrconfig config etc. I noticed
that the ARRconfig file no longer where placed where the setup guide indicated, I then went ahead and tried som manual configuration regarding certificates and such. In the end I have a working solution where Exchange and OWA is working locally but OWA isn't
working outside my local domain, the link get's placed in the RWA and is indicating the correct link for the exchange server www.remote.clinten.dk I have a certificate which include to separate domain names aforementioned and remote.clinten.dk and
I get no errors indicating certificate errors, when I try to connect to www.remote.clinten.dk/owa from outside I get a 404 error, and when I connect to www.remote.clinten.dk I get the RWA login screen for the essentials RWA. Obviously I need to set up something
in ISS probably in the url rewrite section, but I can't seem to find the right setting.. Can someone help with this?
Btw. I have found the missing arrconfig file in c:\windows\system32\essentials" and tried to run the command as described in the guide "ARRConfig config –cert “path to the certificate file” –hostnames “host
names for Exchange Server”" but it doesn't seem to work, it just prompts with a guide for using the arrconfig command and examples of correct use, I also tried removing the "" from the guide, like this "ARRConfig
config –cert path to the certificate file –hostnames host names for Exchange Server",
when I ran it without the "" It didn't prompt me with anything nor did It indicate any errors, it did not however make my OWA work either..
I am aware that exchange 2013 atm. isn't officially supported on the R2 server, but the exchange works fine inside my domain, and the pop3/smtp also works from outside, since this Is a test environment, using only my own private domain and not a company
domain I figured it would be ok to run the risk.. ;)

    Hi

"Ok just an update for anyone else how has this issue.
The problem has been solved by Microsoft and I have included their findings below, but basically it comes down to a typo!
I often use notepad to have all the commands I need on hand, and I must have copied the command direct from the TechNet article or other website and customised the required fields. The issue with this is one of the characters did not “convert” - for want
of a better word. I should have retyped the whole command from scratch and it would have been right!
Thanks for everyone’s input and for Microsoft for getting to the bottom of it.
    From Microsoft:
We have tested on your environment and here is the investigation result from our senior engineer:
    ================================================================
Basically the command fails due to invalid parameter, the invalid one is the ‘-‘. I think the one customer used is copied from the online document sample which translate to the unicode is 0x8211 means “en dash”, it
can’t be input by normal keyboard, so I pretty sure it is from web (mostly HTML document).
The one we check (compare) is ‘-‘ which has the code 0x45.
So it always failed to compare the parameter and ARRconfig.exe thought it is invalid parameter.
The solution is quite simple, just using keyboard to retype the command, using normal ‘-‘ and I have tried the password prompt shows

  • Exchange 2013 SP1 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise - BSOD after DAG creation

    Hi,
We are running Exchange 2007 SP3 RU13 on Windows 2003 R2 with SP2 in a 2003 native AD environment and recently decided to upgrade to Exchange 2013. We installed a pair of new DELL R420 servers running Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise then threw Exchange 2013 SP1
onto them. This all went fine and the servers are running stable.
We connected the second NIC of each server to the other via a separate switch, the second NIC has Client for MS Networks and File/Printer Sharing disabled plus a totally separate subnet with no DNS or GW address assigned. DAG setup was run and completed
OK. I created the DAG network in Exchange and enabled replication, I also left replication enabled across the production LAN. Finally, I went into the advanced network settings and made sure the replication network was below the production network in the binding
    order.
After an hour or two the BSOD's started.. both servers would crash within a few minutes of each other and reboot with a Kernel Panic. I have attached the contents of the dump file below. This seems to happen every few hours and it always seems to be the
server hosting the passive DB copies crashes first, followed by the server hosting the active copies. Note that if we disable the replication NIC on both servers they do not crash.
I got the impression from somewhere that perhaps the servers had mixed up the binding order and were trying to use the replication network as primary, losing access to AD and rebooting (which I have read is the behaviour for Exchange now). It appears the
Exchange Health service has killed WININIT which causes the crash.
    Thanks!!!
The crash dump text is below:
    CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION (f4)

    terminated.

    Hi Darrkon,
I suggest checking the status of the HealthMailbox on each of servers.
Also try to re-create the mailbox. You can safely delete and recreate health mailboxes.
Be aware that any local Managed Availability probes that are using the these mailboxes will fail until the Microsoft Exchange Health Manager is restarted.  Once that service is restarted, it will recreate any mailboxes that it needs.
More details in the following similar thread, just for your reference:

  • BSOD after upgrading to exchange 2013 SP1

    Hi,
I Have 4 servers, x2 Mailbox and x2 CAS, all with 2008 r2 OS, Mailboxes with DAG. Problem started after I upgraded all servers from Exchange 2013 CU3 to Ex13 SP1. All Servers are in Vmware, same hardware.

Try'ed to recreate all performance counters, did'nt worked
Try'ed to create prefered domain controller, did'nt worked
Try'ed to play with healthSet 'AD', but there is almost no information about it in TechNet, so I just looked which services are unhealthy, sometimes it shows ActiveDirectoryConnectivityServer
or ActiveDirectoryConnectivityConfigDCServer as unhealthy, but after few minutes it goes to
healthy, problem that Exchange could already restart the server
    mainly reason I think is:
The AD Health Set has detected a problem with Server.contoso.com at 2014.04.09 06:33:11. The Health Manager is reporting that ActiveDirectoryConnectivityProbe/Server.contoso.com
Failed with Error message:  Search took 1518 ms. Threshold 800 ms. Attempts to auto-recover from this condition have failed and requires Administrator attention. Exception Details: System.Exception:  Search took 1518 ms. Threshold 800 ms
I really need some new ideas...
EDIT: Exchange 2013 sp1 works perfectly in test lab, there are  cloned machines from production, the only difference is DomainController, there is just one (server), no replications, and no subdomains (production domain have subdomain).
    Running DCDiag shows no errors

We have 2 CAS and 4 Mailbox server that were installed from SP1 and seeing the same issue.  This is a clean install still with no mailboxes migrated over as of yet.  Opened a case with MS.  also ran:
    Add-GlobalMonitoringOverride
-Identity Exchange\ActiveDirectoryConnectivityConfigDCServerReboot  -ItemType Responder -PropertyName Enabled -PropertyValue 0 -Duration 60.00:00:00
    Waiting
for MS to get back and to see how this workaround does.  Seems like the original issue was not resolved completely?
    Will
post back when we get an update.  Changing the DirectoryActiveMonitoringContext.xml and the above workaround do not seem suitable for us.  We would like to see a complete resolution for this.
    Good
    luck!

    Thanks for the help,
    Greatings,

    Hi,
Agree with Ed. A checked build Windows is used for debug. Before installing Exchange 2013, please make sure that you use a free build. I'm afraid that you need to reinstall the OS.
What's more, you can refer the following screenshot to determine which Windows build is running. Generally, it should be Free build.
    Hope it helps.
    Best regards,

  • Problems with Outlook 2013 and Windows 8.1 with Exchange 2013

    Hello Guys,
I just got started with testing Exchange 2013. My lab consists of 2 Exchange 2013 Servers, the Installation Media is the Exchange 2013 SP1 from MSDN, Server 2012 R2 and 2 Windows 8.1 Clients with Office 2013 SP 1 with all updates installed. I have configured
some mailboxes in Exchange and I want now to configure Outlook. So at the initial startup Outlook displays the correct Name and Mail Address. When I click next I make it to Logging on the mail server and then I am getting the Error : The connection to Microsoft
Exchange is unavailable. Your Network adapter does not have a default Gateway. All servers are in the network 192.168.5.0 /24. Any suggestions how can I fix this problem ?
    Thank you

Hi there and thanks for Posting!
You can correct the issue by disabling outlook connection optimism.
Full details can be found from link below.

  • Coexistence & Upgrade Exchange 2010 SP3 Unified Messaging to Exchange 2013 SP1 UM

    Hello Experts,
    We're doing Exchange 2010 SP3 to Exchange 2013 SP1 upgrade.
This upgrade also include Unified Messaging component which is currently working with Exchange 2010 SP3 and Lync 2013.
We have one dial plan and its SIP URI and Secured.
Looking for high level steps to plan coexistence and upgrade of Unified Messaging  from Exchange 2010 SP3 to Exchange 2013 SP1 integrated with Lync 2013. I'll also appreciate tips on what kind of certificate and its Subject name(s).
Microsoft documentation is not very clear and I found it confusing for my scenario. Since I we don't want any downtime for UM users, looking for some help.
    Thanks in advance for help.

    Hello Hinte,
Thanks for the information. I have been to this article which explains fresh deployment but doesn't address coexistence and migration scenario.
I'm looking for high level steps only. Can anyone validate and suggest if I'm missing something!
    1) Install new CAS+MBX Server
    2) Move system mailbox as per MS documentation to Exchange 2013 MBX
    3) On CAS+MBX Server Enabled internal CA trusted Cert for UM Services.Internal
CA certs contain only CAS+MBX server's FQDN only.UM services Startup Mode is set to "Dual".
    4) Assigned existing SIP URI Based Exchange 2010 Dial plan to New Exchange 2013 Servers.
    5) Run Exchucutil.ps1
in Exchange 2013 and OcsUMUtil in Lync 2013 (Again?)
Will this be enough or Do I need to create New Auto attendant or
    Haunt Group etc?
    Thanks for all the help!
