Upgrade to CS4 Prod. Premium - is it trouble free

There is probably a forum for CS4 Production Premium but I wanted to get the opinions of a few photoshop users who may have made this upgrade.
I'm running Windows XP pro on P4 3.2gh processors with 2 gb Ram.
I've been using Production studio of CS2 and later upgraded some tools to CS3 like photoshop and Illustrator.
I remember having a fair bit of trouble installing Production Studio... A lot of people did when it was new.  A lot of dinking around was required as I recall.
I'm now wanting to upgrade to CS4 Production Premium and wondered if people could share there experiences with that sort of upgrade.
Is the cs4 package a pain in the butt to install... Did it install smoothly.
Please let me know what to expect...

If you can find any software that is trouble free I would like to buy stock in that company.  But seriously, CS4 makes major demands on the video card and you would be wise to read threads on this forum to see how that would affect you with your current computer hardware/csoftware.
Yikes... I should have known someone would feel compelled to make that quip.
Must have been clear that my question was more... `was it a pain in the butt to install'.
Can you be a little more specific about what you are hinting at?  Hard to know how to be wise with no clue to go on.
I have an Nvidia GeForce FX 5700LE (256MB) card
I guess another thing to ask is if its worth upgrading to CS4.  Is there lots of new functionality?
Just reading the `whats new' hype isn't like hearing from experienced users what they find worth using.
I remember back when I upgraded to Production Studio, one of the big things I was after was the
`Dynamic link' .  After the big buildup of how great it would be... I was pretty disappointed and never did find it very usefull at all. in fact it seemed to make the machine more unstable when calling up both AE and Premiere at the same time.  I quit using altogether after a few crashes.  And even when I didn't crash it just wasn't much different or better than the old way.
This upgrade will cost me about $600 for the upgrade I'm qualified for.
But back to the clues about what to look for... can you suggest some likely search strings to use?

  • Upgrade to CS4 web premium . . . or wait for CS5 ?

The question I have for anyone who may have some insight:  Is there anything groundbreaking in the works for Dreamweaver, Photoshop or Illustrator in CS5 which is due to be released in about 6 months ?
We have CS3 Web Standard, and now want to upgrade to Web Premium so we can get Photoshop and Illustrator which we now need, but with some pain could probably find a way to hold off for another 6 months .... if it was worth the wait that is. We don't necessarily need (and can't afford) the latest Software version all the time, but has there been any discussion about Improvements or New Features in the next release that's going to make us regret not waiting .......... ?

I wouldn't expect anything groundbreaking from one version to the next.  It sometimes comes down to maximizing your operating system to take advantage of speed boosts in both the OP and CS applications.  Your existing CS3 system may not be compatable with the requirements of CS5 whatever they may be, or not.  It's hard to say.  If you are planning on getting new hardware ( sounds like you are not ), then you may want to wait. If you plan on using your existing hardware, you may be able to upgrade to CS4.  But from the sounds of it, CS3 and Tiger is a pretty good combination and you will be able to get away with using that for awhile.  There have been significant fixes from CS2 to CS4, where CS3 had it's problems in Illustrator ( not sure about PS ).  Adobe sometimes throws a bone out to people who buy CS4 and get a break when they ante up for CS5, just be aware of the system requirements.

  • How to upgrade multiple CS4 WEB Premium to multiple Creative Cloud using the same Adobe account?

    Hi all!
    Sorry for my english speaking...
On my company Adobe Account I registred three Adobe CS4 Web Premium, that I use in my company on three different PC's.
Now I would to upgrade my three Adobe CS4 Web Premium buying three Creative Cloud subscriptions with the special discount that I find on https://creativecloud-specialoffer.adobe.com/special-offer/?loc=en_US .
So I registred three orders of Creative Cound subscriptions on my Adobe Account, but today I got a e-mail from Adobe that says that Adobe refuses two of my orders because only one Creative Cloud subscription is admissible for each Adobe Account that has at least one Adobe product serial number registred.
How can I solve this issue? Must I split my three Adobe CS4 Web Premium on three different Adobe IDs? Can I do it?
    Many thanks,
    Walter

    Hi Carol,
many many thanks for your quick reply!
In other words I must pay a 61$/mo subscription instead the 36$/mo subscriptions for 2 of 3 users, isnt it?
But in this way I will spend about 600$ more for the first year.
I always buyed genuine Adobe products, it is demralizing to spend 600$ only because a multiple-subscription restriction fot those that registred all the products per Adobe ID...
    Other solutions?

You don't. You missed your deadlines. You can only buy a fresh CS6 license.

  • When would be good time for me to upgrade from CS4 production premium to Master Collection 5.5/6?

    Hello Adobers.
I have CS4 Production Premium but I need Indesign so was thinking of upgrading to Master collection. It seems like Master collection 6 will be out early next year? So I am confused about when would be the best time to upgrade from $$$ saving point of view?
    So should I upgrade from....
    a) - CS4 Production Premium > to Master collection 5.5 now and then  > to Master collection 6 later
    or
    b) CS4 Production Premium > to Master collection 6 directly
    or
    c) - CS4 Production Premium > to  Master collection 5.5 now and forget about version 6.
I assume option c) would be cheapest. Which will be cheaper out of a) and b) ?
    Thank you for advice.

Adobe has made no announcement about CS6. The best time to buy anything is when you need it.

  • Upgrading to CS4 web premium ... or wait for CS5 ?

The actual question I have for anyone who may have some insight:  Is there anything groundbreaking in the works for Dreamweaver, Photoshop or Illustrator in CS5 which is due to be released in about 6 months ?

If you cannot afford the latest software all the time, why would you want to jump from CS3 to CS4? That falls under the 'all the time' category by going for a consecutive upgrade. A more economical way to go would be to leap-frog releases (CS3 to CS5).
The possible upgrade to CS5 may offer better integration of the apps. Since Adobe bough Macromedia a few years ago, it has been gradually blending the apps to be friendly with each other. It would not be a stretch of the imagination that a CS5 web design workflow might be better than with CS4.
Many web designers find Fireworks a decent replacement for both Illustrator and Photoshop. If you want to explore other image editors, consider GIMP (gimp.org) as a substitute for Photoshop and Inkscape (inkscape.org) as a substitute for Illustrator until you really need to upgrade.

  • CS4 Prod Premium-can't update or uninstall

My basic issue is that updates to the suite won/t work. Nothing will update and there is no error message as to why.Now I discover can't uninstall CS4.
Yes, I've been in contact with support and they told me to run the windows cleanup utility and remove all CS4 items. I did that. But uninstall through project manager still stops on the first screen but gives me no hint why.
I will, of course go back to support but I am hoping that someone might have some experience or guidance that I might try prior to that. Projects are just sitting here while we try to sort this out. Arghhh.

    Thanks Eldorado,
but I think I explained it not exactly enough: I know that the old Flash installation is looking for a file that seems to be on antoher pc / server / disc or what ever, but the problem is, that I did not install the Flash Player that I would like to remove, respectively upadte to the newest version.
It is part of the Toshiba Recovery DVD. That means, after killing the HD and setting up the system completely new with the Toshiba Recovery DVD, this little tricky Flash Player is already installed.
It seems to be that there is a wrong link or setup on this DVD. But if that is the case, I can not be the only one with this problem, or?
And is there any way to remove this thing manually?
    Again, thanks in advance.

  • Upgrading from CS4 to CS5 Prod Premium

Please excuse me if this has been discussed (although I only found one short thread relating to my question).
I have received my upgrade version of CS5.5 (DVD version).
I am currently running CS4.2.1 Do I have to deactivate my current version before I attempt the upgrade?
My installation history started with Prem Pro CS4 then I upgraded to CS4 Prod Premium for the whole suite. My experience of upgrading at that time was stressed!!
I had to go to online support and enter my Prem Pro serial number in with my Prod Premium serial number which produced a THIRD number - oh, the long winded nature of it all.... Meanwhile 24 hours later!
So, is it now quite simple? But do I have to deactivate my current and operational version first?

    Absolutely amazing!
Wow!! I must say my installation experience of CS5.5 was nothing like CS4. It took just 45 minutes - no hassle and once I entered my Adobe ID it didn't even ask for the old serial numbers.
And now the best part. No more red line renders on my HDV timeline which was a real pain as I couldn't even play the timeline after I made adjustments. Now I get a playable yellow bar. This is going to save me hours of edit/render time.
    What a difference...
And to Harm - yes, I don't regret.
    Happy Happy Happy

  • Upgrade CS4 design premium to CS5.5 standard, what happens with my web apps?

    Hi,
I'm planning to upgrade my CS4 design premium to CS5.5 design standard, but I still like to use Dreamweaver from the CS4. Does anyone know if this is possible. I've chatted with an Adobe sales employe who said I can only upgrade to CS5.5 design premium in order to keep using dreamweaver but I read that other people are using different versions of CS simultanously on 1 computer. Any thoughts?
    Thanks alot!

I respectfully disagree. The license includes a stipulation that you can continue to use the earlier version during a transition period. There is no set time limit there. I have CS3, CS4, CS5 and CS5.5 installed.

  • CS4 Design Premium Education Version upgrade to CS6 Design & Web Premium

Can I upgrade my CS4 Design Premium Education version to CS6 Design & Web Premium - likely an Education version also?
    What is the cost?
What is the best upgrade option (not including CC)?

    a) Edu versions can only be upgraded to commercial versions, but you missed the CS4 upgrade deadline which eneded December last year.
    b) If you are still eligible for edu pricing it's rirrelevant - you simply buy a completely new licenses at the discounted price.

  • Upgrade CS4 Production Premium to CS5 Web Premium?

I need to get Adobe Dreamweaver for some web work. Rather than spend $399 for DW, I thought I would spend $599 for the upgrade from CS4 Production Premium to CS5 Web Premium... These suites hace a several programs in common but the thing is, I still need to use Encore and the Media Encoder that only exist in Production Premium. After I install the CS5 Web Premium, will I be able to still use (officially or un-officially) a few of my CS4 Production Premium applications on the same system?
    Thanks...

  • I may have totally screwed myself but...after installing Yosemite without checking first, my CS4 Design Premium suite wouldn't open. So I deinstalled it, but I only have disks for my old CS3. When I got the CS4 upgrade I downloaded it. What can I do??

I may have totally screwed myself but...after installing Yosemite without checking for potential problems with Adobe software, my CS4 Design Premium suite wouldn't open. So after consulting some forums, I deinstalled it, but I only have disks for my old CS3. When I got the CS4 upgrade I downloaded it, back in 2011... What can I do?? Everything was fine before I upgraded that *#$%* Yosemite.

You can find the CS4 download here: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs4-product-downloads.html

  • Error 150:30 CS4 Web premium - Yosemite upgrade

I'm trying to recover from a Yosemite upgrade failure on my MacBook Pro. I used the Migration Assistant app to restore my Applications folder. When I launch any product from the suite, I get Error 150:30. I can't use the installer disk for CS4 Web Premium. I've attempted downloading it from the support site several times and it always fails. When I attempt to relaunch download in Safari, I get a message that I don't have permission to download the CS4 Web Premium installer.

    Michael,
Thanks for the reply. I'm not running Yosemite. I'm still running Mavericks 10.9.5. CS4 worked fine in it. I'll try the cleaner and attempt another download.
    Aaron
UPDATE: CS4 Installer doesn't work on Mavericks, although the apps were running before the failed Yosemite update. I've downloaded the installer but it doesn't launch. It behaves like a folder, showing the installer contents. Here is a screen shot.
UPDATE 2: The support reply was NOT helpful and didn't solve my problem. I'm not running Yosemite, if this post was read correctly.
I've downloaded CS4 Web Premium several times and it still doesn't work on 10.9.5.

  • Upgrading to CS6 Design and Web Premium from CS4 Design Premium Install Failure

I am trying to upgrade to CS6 Design and Web Premium from CS4 Design Premium on Win 7 (32bit).  I am nistalling from the DVD which was purchased from the Adobe Store.  The box says it is for Upgrading from 4 or 3x.   I am entering the CS6 serial number and it is able to validate it.   When it goes into the Preparing to Install mode  the status bar never changes and after what seems like a very long time the Installation failed message is displayed.  I ran the Adobe Support advisor and  followed the link to the page that tells you how to resolve the issues and chose to go into the registry and look for "In Progess".  There was no "In Progress".     I have the serial numbers for CS4 and CS6 so they should be valid given that both were purchased through the Adobe Store.   I am very frustrated!!!!!!!!!
    Installation Status:
    Installation failed:
    Adobe Advisor Results:
    Regestry:

I downloaded and installed the Application manager and re-started the installation.  This time it got to installiing the applications and after 3 hours it was only 55% completed and showing that it was installing Acrobat  and had 2 hours to go. It seemed to be stuck so I cancelled the install.

  • Possible or not upgrade PC version CS4 Design Premium to Apple Mac version

I have a big problem. Last year I bought a CS4 Design Premium package for the PC. However, I am switching systems to Apple (iMac) in a month and my CS4 for the PC won't work on an Apple Mac system. Buying new photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign is more expensive than I can afford. Is there a way to change or upgrade from PC to Mac? I hope anyone can help me.
    Kind regards
    Marjolein

Yes its called a Cross-Grade. You need to call Sales dept at Adobe There may or may not be some fee involved. Most software companies allow it. You may be asked to Destroy your PC Disk. Or
You and buy Parallels for your new Mac then install windows on the Parallels Partition (if you already have a Separate Windows install DVD). To get up and running if you don't have a packaged version (not OEM) of windows would be buy buy the cross Grade. If you have a Packaged version of Office laying around then buying Parallels for the Mac would be cheaper.
