Upgrade to mac os x Lion??

Hey I just purchased a new mac but it has os x 10.6.7. ie "Snow Leopard" preinstalled. As I have come from using a Windows computer, I'm still unsure whether it is better to return the macbook and purchase one that has Lion preinstalled, or just keep this one and wait for the upgrade. Will the Macbook run better with "native" Lion software or is there no difference?
Also wondering how you would reload the Lion software without the disc if I somehow managed to crash the system (believe me, I make it entirely possible).

Lion is available now; no need to wait unless you want to. You can apply for the free download here:
http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/
The Lion installer will create a secondary partition on your hard drive from which you can reinstall should it be necessary. If your entire hard drive fails, you would need to install Snow Leopard first and then download and install Lion. Or make a bootable installer disk of Lion, instructions for which can be found on the web if you search. Lion will also be available on a bootable USB flash drive in August for $69 US, should you wish an "official" installer from Apple.
It's up to you whether or not you wish to return your MacBook Pro and wait. I don't see much reason, and some good reasons to have Snow Leopard and then the option to install Lion when you're confident enough in it, and in application compatibility, to make the move.
Regards.

  • Problems Problems after upgrading to Mac OS X Lion

I upgraded my mac os to Lion last week on my Mac air.  After loading, my norton could not work probably. Then last night, files in my start up disk doubled and hence error appeared - that my disk is full while I only used 50% of the storage capacity.
This morning my iphone 4 also appeared to be have the SMS messages and photos and every files also appeared to duplicate itself.
    Can anyone assist ?

After loading, my norton could not work probably.
    Does Norton ever work properly?
Norton is a known troublemaker, and most likely the version you have is incompatible with Lion.  You could try updating Norton, but personally, that's one I'd remove immediately and never come near again.  If you feel you need AV software on your Mac, the only thing I would recommend wholeheartedly is ClamXav.  Sophos' free home AV software would be my second choice, though with some reservations, as I've heard of people having problems with it.
As to the doubling files problem...  can you describe more precisely what you're seeing?  I've never heard of such a problem before.

  • My Safari browser won't open. I had upgraded to Mac OS X Lion. What do I  do?

My iMac is 2008 built. In March 2012, I upgraded to Mac OS X Lion. Since then I had problems after problems. Since the computer was getting slower and slower, I thought the Prosoft Drive Genious 3 would be useful. When I installed it on iMac, it caused more problems. I removed the Prosoft Drive Genius 3 from the internal iMac hard drive and tried to install it on an external drive.
Now I can't access Safari. It doesn't open. I had to download Mozilla Firefox browser. I don't see any links on Apple site for the latest Safari browser for Mac. What do I do to download Safari.

Thank you very much for your email and the post. I copied the segments of the crash report  from the Console and pasted and edited in the TextEdit. I don't know what shutdownStall etc is.

  • If I upgrade to Mac OS X Lion will I lose Applications/Documents/etc.

I was wondering if I upgrade to Mac OS X Lion tomorrow, will my applications and all the documents that are saved on my computer be there after the upgrade? I do not have money to buy an external hard drive right now to do the back up, so will I be safe without it?

    Hi,
    Look at it this way...
If you have a Backup and (for whatever reason) Something goes Horrible Wrong.. You have Lost Nothing...
Without a Backup... You could Lose Everything....
Not a Nice Thought At All...
So take all the Advice already Offered and Backup... Backup... Backup...
    And then Upgrade your OS...
    Just my 2 cents worth...
    Cheers,

No, if you are using the Music app you are playing them on your iPhone.

  • I can't get the mac app store. There's no software update availiable and it seems i can't upgrade to Mac OS X Lion without that.

There's no mac app store availiable to download for me.
I want to upgrade to Mac OS X Lion, but without that mac app store it seems to be impossible.
I did all software updates but never got that mac app store. So what can I do now?

THis is because you have two OS X upgrade steps. First, you need to upgrade to Snow Leopard ($29 us, disk only, no download).
Once you've upgraded to Snow Leopard, and run Software Update to get to 10.6.8 then you'll have the Mac App Store and can take the second OS X upgrade step to Lion 10.7.2.

  • Upgrade my mac ox to lion

how can i upgrade my mac ox to lion. Also i want to know if i upgrade my ox, the application that i have installed will remain there or i want to reinstall it. I was using Adobe CS5 master collection & Autocad 2011 mainy on my mac.

"how can i upgrade my mac ox to lion."
Using the App Store which should be in your dock because you are presently running OS 10.6.6 or higher (are you?) pay for and download the Lion installer.
"if i upgrade my ox, the application that i have installed will remain there..."
They should. That said you have a back up plan no doubt just incase?
"I was using Adobe CS5 master collection & Autocad 2011 mainy on my mac."
CS5 runs in Lion but AutoCad may have some problems check all third party apps with their respective vendor. And when you post do include information about your Mac. If it is not a core 2 duo you won't be installing Lion.

Just upgraded my Mac laptop to Lion to take advantage of iCloud, spent hours trying to get iCloud to work, not happy, tried everything still does not work, this is the first time i have been defeated.

The initial upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion is 10.7.1.  Have you done the system update to 10.7.2 already?
And since there isn't any general overview of what you've tried, see if anything at this site will help" http://help.apple.com/icloud/index.html#

  • I recently upgraded to mac os x lion. But now my broadband pen doesn't work. I'm portuguese and i use the vodafone network. Can anybody help me?

    Hello.
My name is Margarido and i'm portuguese. I use a mobile operator named zon to access the web using a broadband pen modem.
This operator uses the vodafone technical support (network) and since i upgraded to the Mac OS X Lion, the pen modem doesn´t work.
    Can anybody help me?
I eared that Mac OS X Lion doesn´t support pen modems yet. Is this true?
    Thank you.

Your best bet is to call the Vodafone technical support helpline. Since each manufacturer writes custom software for each OS. They might be working on new drivers...

  • Elements 11 is not running anymore after upgrading my Mac to Mountain Lion

Elements 11 is not running anymore after upgrading my Mac to Mountain Lion

PSE11 does work OK with Mountain Lion but you need to delete the saved prefs and application state.
    Quit Elements.
Launch Finder and click on Go (hold down the optn key) and click on Library when it appears in the list below Home.
Delete the following files from the Preferences folder:
    com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Paths
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Settings
Delete this file from the Saved Application State folder:
    com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.savedState
