Both are separate programs. You can have both 10 and 12 installed at the same time.

  • I currently have Photoshop Elements 9 and want to change to Photoshop Elements 12

I need to understand how ver. 9 converts to ver. 12, how does the organizer, specifically I want to understand file structure, folders & tagging

Thank you, I has PSE9 on my old computer, I now have a new computer and
still have my original disk.  Can I re-install PSE9 even though Adobe does
not support that version?  From what I have seen of PSE12 I don't think
that is the version for me, it is more than I need.  I simply want to scan
my photos to directories and run short slide shows from that.  Is it
possible that you could call me or I call you?  I find it difficult to read
through manuals, I understand much better by asking some questions.  I will
be out for a couple of hours but my phone number is 250 768-6620.  Gladys

First of all, use PSE9 on your old computer to make a full backup of your catalog and image files.  Put this backup in a safe location, such as an external HDD, and don't mess with it.  If something goes wrong, you'll need to restore your catalog from this backup to get back to where you started from.  Let's call this backup "PSE9 Backup Golden".
Now the question becomes "Can PSE10 restore from a version 9 backup?".  I don't know, so you have 3 options:
    1.  The "I feel lucky" option.
Use PSE9 on your old computer to make a new, full backup onto an external HDD.  (Call this backup "PSE9 Backup New".)
Install PSE10 on your new computer.
Use the PSE10 Organizer to restore that "PSE9 Backup New" to your new computer, answering "Yes" to any prompt about converting the catalog to the new version.
    2.
Use PSE9 on your old computer to make a new, full backup onto an external HDD. (Call this backup "PSE9 Backup New".)
Install PSE9 on your new computer.
Install PSE10 on you new computer.
Use PSE9 on your new computer to restore "PSE9 Backup New" to your new computer.
Open the restored PSE9 catalog in PSE10 and say "Yes" to the prompt about converting it to the new version.

Open the PSE9 catalog in PSE10 and say "Yes" to the prompt about converting it to the new version.
Use PSE10 to backup the converted catalog to an external HDD.
Install PSE10 on your new computer.
Use PSE10 on your new computer to restore that converted catalog to your new computer.

I have Photoshop Elements 10 on a new Mac, using Yosemite 10.1.1 - PE locks up every time I try to sign in. This software was restored to this computer from Time Machine after a theft of my old Mac. How can I fix this? It keeps telling me that there are missing files, too. If I upgrade to Elements 12 or beyond, will this fix the problem?

You can't sign in because there is nothing to sign in to. For PSE 10 the only sign in was to photoshop.com, which has been dead and gone for a year and half. Just skip the sign in. Reinstalling will not change this.

I currently have Photoshop CS5.1 on my Mac and want to transfer it to my newly purchased Mac Book Air. How can I do that?

Just install it like you did the first time (do not try to transfer it from the old machine in any way) - you can download thru your account if you purchased it as a download originally - otherwise there is a link for downloading below. Your serial number should be available thru your Adobe account online if your registered the software previously.

If you like you can leave it on the first machine as a backup because you are allowed to have two activated installations.  If you wish to remove it from the older machine you should deactivate it first (open an application and choose Help -> Deactivate).

That depends. If you bought the disc version, you're good to go, since your serial number works on both platforms, so just install the mac version. If you lost the discs or your mac doesn't have a disc drive, you can download it here:
    Download Photoshop Elements products | 13, 12, 11, 10 <https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/photoshop-elements-10-11-downloads.html>
However, if you bought the windows version as a download, you're out of luck. Adobe does do a crossgrade, but for older versions you have to pay to upgrade to current version on the new platform, and that's more expensive than just buying it, if you search around for a good price.

  • I have Photoshop Elements 10 - how do I upgrade to 11

I have Photoshop Elements 10 - how do I upgrade to 11. I tired downloading 11 but got an error message.

You would have to upgrade to the current version 12 by purchasing it.  Adobe doesn't sell older versions of their software, so if you want to by an upgrade to version 11 you would have to look for some third party vendor which you are less likely to find for an upgrade purchase - and purchasing from a 3rd party vendor can be chancy.

I have Photoshop Elements 12 for both PC and Mac (I use both). I have a new camera, Nikon D810. I downloaded the latest version of Camera Raw, 8.8. My D810 is listed as a supported camera model. However, when I try to open a raw photo in Photoshop Elements, I keep getting the message "Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw. I have tried reinstalling Camera Raw many times, and have tried to open many different raw files in Elements, and still get the same error message. Please help.

How did you try to install ACR 8.8.  The only way I know of that works with Elements is to use the Updates Choice on the Help menu.
There are two charts supplied by Adobe that explain your RAW dilemma.  This one tells you what your camera needs:  http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html   This one tells you what version of software you need:  http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
In your case, the Nikon D810 needs Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 8.6 or Lightroom 5.6.  (Congratulations on buying a new camera!)
To get to that level with Photoshop Elements, you will need to replace your Photoshop Elements 12 with version 13.   Adobe caps ACR updates on version 12 at 8.5.
The most convenient way to get around it without spending any money is to use the FREE from Adobe DNG Converter.  Download and install it from here for FREE:  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5855&fileID=5890  Once it is installed you can convert your D810 raw files to an Adobe RAW version with the .DNG file extension that most, if not all, versions of the various Adobe software programs can use.  That includes old versions of Photoshop, Elements and Lightroom.  DNG converter can be used as the tool to move your files from your memory card to your computer, is efficient, will convert in batches and is completely lossless.  There is no risk of any image quality degradation or RAW functionality.

I have an iMac purchased new about 5 years ago with OS 10.4.11. I would like to upgrade to Lion. I currently have a 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 2 GB of ram. Can I upgrade to Lion, and what is the best way to do so?

    From what I read here:
    http://www.tuaw.com/2011/06/06/lion-...u-2-gb-of-ram/
s long as they already have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 installed in it.All a person needs to do with that type of iMac is to upgrade/max out their Ram. They claim that an Interl iMac with Core 2 Duo is all that is needed, as long as it has OS 10.6.8 installed. They say you don`t need  the "Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor"
But I wonder about the RAM speed, the iMac 2.33Ghz uses DDR2 SDRAM,  which I believe is rated at 667Mhz. Lion maybe installed but it might be problems running smoothly or not?
Did some quick checking and the iMacs apple is selling this year use 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM.
The only thing to do is to make sure you have a good back-up, Install your RAM and install Snow Leo, then wait a couple of hours and install Lion.
    Good Luck
