Upgraded to 10.6.8 now CD/DVD doesnt work in Bootcamp or Parallels??

It seems upgrade to 10.6.8 broke the connection to my CD/DVD drive. It no longer works in Parallels or Bootcamp. Originally Parallels said it was being used by another program or files were missing. I upgraded Parallels Desktop 5 to version 6 and now it sees it, but it fails to burn a DVD. Bootcamp fails to burn as well but sees it. What can I do to get my drive working correctly again? Help!?

If you are experiencing the problem in both BootCamp (Windows) and Mac, then the problem is not software-related. Any upgrades made to the Mac OS (such as drivers or going from 10.6.x to 10.6.8) would not carry over when the machine was restarted. I'd suggest getting it taken in to check the optical drive, or possibly even the cable. Most good places won't charge just to take a look.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
It might also be a good idea to contact Square for assistance.

Sorry but that makes no sense at all. How can they possible know what things will possible malfunction on your device? Anything that they think is highly likely to malfunction they would have addressed in desiging and manufacturing the device in the first place, during development. They've made and sold many millions of iPhones, and many of them have lasted years without any problems (I know, I've owned such iPhones personally). So how could they possible know if yours was any more likely to develop any issues than any of those other trouble free ones?
It's hardware - stuff sometimes breaks randomly. No amout of money ever guarantees or even reduces the likelyhood of random product failures.
Take it in to Apple and see about getting it fixed.

Apple supports most of their computer products for a 7 year period, could be that your IBook is well past any kind of help.Secondly parts are no longer being made for this machine and never will be again. Finally I find it hard to believe that nothing has been done with this for 6 years.Have you documented the reasons why you were turned down for repairs ? were the replaced Ibooks within a couple of months of warranty expiration? What model is your IBook ? At least if we knew what the model #, some of the more techy types could find out if there were any repair programs for your model.
Seems odd that you'd hang on to a non-working IBook for that long.

Wow I see from the other responses to similar questions that the phone may be jailbroken. I thought I was purchasing an unlocked phone that was legal to use with any system. What a disappointment, I will have to go back to where I purchased this phone and let them have an ear full.

HP Dv2000 CD/DVD doesnt work

lately I have realised that my CD/DVD drive doesnt work? I tried to burn a CD the other day but the program I use said it cannot see any availible burners. I checked the decive manager but I couldnt see it anywhere? The CD/DVD tray still ejects like normal and the LED still lights up but doesnt boot any type of disc. Any help is greatly appreciated

i am having this same issue. i tried to delete the registry for it and re install the drivers and all but keep telling me bad registry entry for it. even before i tried to delete it. HP wants 60$ to remotely fix it for me. some how when i bought this laptop i only got a 90 day warranty? i dont know how that could be. but i can put a cd/dvd in the player and it SOUNDS like its winding up to play it but then nothing is happpening. i cant find the drive in MY COMPUTER, with or with out a disc in the drive. please someone help us on this. ive seen posts all over the internet for this but not a single reply or any insight that might help.

I just upgraded my iMac from OS 10.7.5 to 10.8.3. Firefox was my default browser and has all my bookmarks. Now when I try to load a page, the content is all jumbled and doesn't display correctly. I just updated Firefox to 20.0 but it still doesn't work right.
Also, the first time after upgrading, Adobe Illustrator wouldn't start unless I installed Java. Isn't that the program that should be disabled because of security issues? Or has that been resolved?

I think I figured out Firefox, I went under Help > Troubleshooting Information > Reset Firefox.
I only have one account on my computer. Honestly I don't even really know how multiple accounts work. I've never played around with it. I already allowed Java - should I disable it?

Upgraded to FF 26.0, now links don't work in MS Outlook. But work in IE9

Had FF as default browser. After upgrade to FF 26.0, can no longer link to website from email received in MS Outlook 2010. Get error msg that "needs to know what program to open xxxx"
If able to copy hyperlink from right-click, can paste it into FF and then can open URL. But not all links allow copying. Tried repairing MS Office, updated Flash [again], tried safe mode. No success
Changed default browser to IE 9.0 and links in Outlook emails work again.
Note - can also make FF work, if, in the errro msg box, choose to search for program to open link. FF does not appear in the drop down list but allows search for other programs. Firefox is on the list of ~40 programs. Choose Firefox and the link will open. Obviously this is not workable most of the time.

Sometimes there is a problem with links launching in Firefox, but don't recall hearing about anyone getting that particular dialog before. If you are interested in troubleshooting further, I'll dig out my settings for comparison.

I recently upgraded to iTunes 10.1.2 and it does not work.
The current message I have is:

IOs4 upgrade, Now car stereo doesnt work with iphone

I've got the AutoPilot from Griffin, and I haven't seen any issues with it. Anyone with one of those and have concerns shouldn't worry; it'll continue to work.
Granted, it interfaces with the iPhone via the dock connector, but eventually goes into the car's audio system via the auxiliary jack, so the USB connection is probably what the issue is with other audio systems.
I've also noticed the "This accessory isn't meant for your device" message doesn't give you the choice of going into Airplane Mode; it just reminds you that you'll probably get interference.

I just downloaded Mountain lion to upgrade from snow leopard and when I tried to open my calendar, a window pops up and says "You can't open the application "calendar" because powerPC applications are no longer supported."

It looks like the upgrade didn't go well because Calendar is damaged. First, I recommend you to reinstall OS X 10.8.2 > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1581
If it doesn't work, reinstall OS X Mountain Lion. Hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting and reinstall OS X. As Mountain Lion has to be downloaded again, this may take hours
