Upgraded to 7.0.1 last night. Firefox would not launch afterward. Hour glass appears for a few seconds then goes away. I can see on Task Manager that Firefox.exe appears in the Proceses list and then after a few seconds disappears. No browser, no error message. After going through every troubleshooting step I could find I removed 7.0.1, downloaded 3.6.23 from Firefox site and this works fine.

Very strange. So today I log in to my banking site and everything is working properly. Firefox tells me I am running the same version 8.0.1. Who knows! I guess I should just be happy that Firefox works as it should.

Bootup hang and then some apps not launching

Bought magic mouse at weekend - installed OK and worked. Don't know if magic mouse relevant to problem- saw one thread which suggested reducing speed of double click to cure failure to launch app - tried this after the hang below and no difference - so the hang may be unrelated to new mouse.
Computer (late 2007) hung when booting up few days later. Sound and apple screen normal. Then hung on blue screen. Rebooted - same. Researched and started in safe mode - booted up to normal finder screen. Restarted - normal boot up but various apps eg mail, address book, quicktime, ical won't launch from either the dock or apps folder. Preview won't open file. In the dock icons move up and down jerkily then disappear. If launched from apps folder large pixellated app icon momentarily appears then vanishes. Have run disc utility from SL - no hard drive errors reported. Fixed permissions etc. No difference. Saw a note which said the SUID ? file had been changed but could not be repaired - don't know what that means. Have reset PRAM - no difference. Downloaded Onyx and SL combo update but neither will launch. Tried re-installing SL but this hung and would not instal with error message 10822 the operation cannot be completed. Computer generally running slowly and jerkily.

That indicates corruption or conflicts with 3rd-party things in the normal boot account. Create a new admin user account and see if that fixes the problem. As for QuickSilver and the scripts, that might indicate that they're in Login Items and usually mount on startup. I recommend deleting them from the login items. Also, check the various /Library/LaunchAgents/, /Library/LaunchDaemons/, and /Library/StartupItems/ for rogue processes. If you don't have the issues in this new account, then you can proceed in two ways. One is to log into your new account, make a list of the preference files (plists) located in /username/Library/Preferences/, including any in the ByHost subfolder, log back into the original account, move everything not on that list into a newly created folder on the Desktop, log out and back in, and see if the problem goes away. If so, you can copy the ones in the Desktop folder (one at time) back into /Preferences/, restart, and see if the problem returns. If so, you've identified the corrupt/conflicting one. Continue with all of them until isolating the bad ones. That'll save you the trouble of resetting preferences.
The second way is much more detailed and I'll not burden you with the steps unless the above doesn't fix the issue.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I checked everything , cable, services, stop and start and automatice, etc.and went through all the steps on the apple support site, to include removing all apple software in the designated order and reinstalling it. iTunes still doesn't see the iphone.
The Apple iPhone shows up only under protable Devices in the Device Manager window and has a Yellow ! warning triangle, and there is no Apple USB controller in the devices menu.under Universal Serial Bus Controllers. When I look under the properties of the Apple iphone, it says in Device Status, to reinstall the drivers for this device (Code 18).
When I do this, I get the following: "Windows found driver softweare for you device but encountered an error when attempting to install it" Apple Mobile Device Driver One of the installers for th this device cannot perform the installation at this time. I tried both suggested locations on the C: drive.
Also I can't seem to find out how to install the Apple USB Contoller or is that related to the problem above?
The iphone and my ipod work fine with this version of itunes on Windows 7 on my laptop. is it possible that I am missing a critical update from Microsoft on the driver and USB controller? I have been leery of installing them since my computer had problems with some updates in January.

Firefox 3.6.8 fails to load any page if I open Outlook2003 after starting Firefox. Outlook also fails to send/receive although I am able to load pages in another browser. These problems do not seem to occur if I open Outlook first and then firefox.

I switched on my PC and there was an update for realplayer. Since then firefox will not load. It is running according to Task Manager. I've downloaded a another copy of the programme using IE but whilst it loaded as a programme, does not open a window.

Helps if I give the correct link ! <br/>The press shift button appears to still work, but the option to start in safe mode from the programs listing of a standard install I do not think exists anymore.
Safe mode will start from a command line, (or a shortcut) and in some circumstances you may need to enter the full path name on a command or shortcut detailed instructions are at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode
Remember (at least at this stage) do not make changes when you get the options list, just click on the continue button.
If you think that RealPlayer is causing the problem you could uninstall that for now.
Firefox recent versions are 3.6 4.0 (and 5.0 in beta). There is some debate as to whether creating new profiles or re-installing Firefox is the simplest method of troubleshooting and solving some of these problems, personally I use multiple profiles and multiple versions of Firefox, and tend to forget the required procedures are less than straightforward. For now at least try [[safe mode]] again.

Best way is to restore your backup from before the problem, rebuild it and update it again

If you right-click on your Photoshope.exe, select Properties, there should be a Compatibility tab. There you can select Windows XP, Windows 2000, Winows 98 or 95. One of these should allow you to open Photoshop 6, unless you mean CS6.

reboot your phone then restart the app updates again. This usually fixes the problem. Also if you have a lot of updates it will try to do too many at once. tap the ones that are downloading and pause all but two at a time. As soon as thoughs go into the installing unpause the next two. If you have too many going at once then during the install it takes too long before it starts the next download on itunes will require a password again so it stops all the update in the middle. The other work around is to update one at a time in the app store instead of hitting the update all button.

If you install Lion then erase the drive that will erase Lion. To purchase and download Lion you must first install Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later to access the App Store where you purchase and download the Lion installer. You might read this before:

1. After downloading Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Lion application. After Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing Lion.
2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.

3. Locate the saved Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility.
Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Drag the InstallESD.dmg disc image file into the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable Lion installer that you can use without having to re-download Lion.

Sometimes Firefox will hang during startup or shutdown, and still be running invisibly in the background. Usually in that case, you need to "kill" it either by restarting Windows or using the Windows Task Manager. It sounds as though you are familiar with opening the Processes tab, finding firefox.exe, and using End Process.

A couple of other suggestions:

Since updating Firefox, it appears that it causes the OneGreatFamily genealogy program to give an error and then Firefox crashes.

Since updating my Firefox browser to version 3.6.3, I get an error message from the OneGreatFamily website and then Firefox crashes. All worked well before I updated Firefox a few days ago.

Delete the files extensions.* (extensions.rdf, extensions.cache, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox [[Profiles|profile folder]] to reset the extensions registry.
