Upgrading Aperture Trial

Hi all.
My Aperture 30 day trial has just expired, and was so impressed with it, I have purchased the upgrade key from the Apple Store.
Everytime I try to input the new key, it claims that it is not a valid install.... Its a genuine key purchased from Apple, so i am very confused.
Do they keys work right away, or is there a lag of a few hours before they work?
Just wanted to put it out there before I call Apple.
Thanks

Call 1-800-SOS-APPL if it does not immediately work.
Make sure that Aperture and the OS are fully version-current. Immediately prior to and immediately after every installation of any kind (essentially anything that asks for sysadmin password) I recommend repairing Permissions. Note that repairing Permissions at other times does not have the same effect as immediately prior to and immediately after installations; i.e. repairing Permissions is not some kind of magic fix to use after problems present.
Good luck!

  • Aperture Trial - 1.5.1 Upgrade Breaks It?

Ok, so I was really pumped to see the Aperture trial and the D80 support today since I was waiting on the D80 before I bought Aperture. And the trial was just gravy!
So, I installed the trial, loaded it up and entered the trial serial number. Everything fine. Then, SW Update tells me I have an update to 1.5.1 for Aperture. So, of course I installed it and now the trial serial number is not valid and it continually asks me for a proper serial number. I am removing and reinstalling now, but at least in my case I would suggest that any trial users not upgrade to 1.5.1.
    Any one else seeing this?

    Same here.
I was hitting some issues with the demo, and was pleased to see that the update was supposed to fix them so I could give it a fair trial.
But on first launch after installing the update, I was asked for a serial number; I entered the one I was emailed with the demo and got a dialog box reading "You have entered an upgrade serial number. Please enter your original serial number." Without this missing number, the app won't launch.
Oh, well, it was fun while it lasted. But I don't want to reinstall v1.5 because if I demo it for my boss (which would be required to get the purchase approved) he would notice the problems and question my recommendation. Judging from the list of fixes, v1.5.1 would resolve many of those problems, but I can't run it.
    Any suggestions? Thanks...

  • How do you upgrade from Aperture trial version?

I have the Aperture trial version. When I open it, I get an option to buy it....and I have just three days left on my trial.
So I click BUY - and everything flakes out. It opens a window or two, along with Safari, with a URL that doesn't work - http://www.itunes.com/mac/aperture
One of the popups displays the price. When I click it, it says I can't buy it because it's already installed on my computer. I don't have a clue what's going on.
    Thanks for any tips.

To buy Aperture you get the best deal from the App Store, not the Apple Store. The Trial Version has been discontinued. To be able to download from the App Store you have remove the Trial Version from the Applications Folder, but keep your Aperture Library and all the presets in your User Library. Then you should be able download Aperture from the App Store.
What is your OS version? You will need 10.6.8 or 10.7.3.

  • Aperture 2.0 won't use my "Aperture Trial Library"

For some reason, Aperture 2.0 is suddenly now asking me each time I open it if I want to create a NEW trial library. I can't get it to open the Trial library I already made with it! At this point, I'm stuck. I've got an "Aperture Trial Library" that I made when I first opened Aperture 2.0, but it's now worthless.
Anyone else experience this? Any fix?

I finally just upgraded. Of course, that fixed it.

  • Aperture trial says expired

I just downloaded the Aperture trial, installed it with the key that apple emailed me. After launching the program it says my trial period has expired. Wow that was quick. Not even one day?
Can anyone help. Like to try this program to see if it is worth the upgrade.
    Brett

Call 1-800-SOS-APPL and Apple's customer service will no doubt work it out for you.
I strongly recommend that Aperture users work through the tutorial CD Apple Pro Training Series: Aperture 2 (Apple Pro Training Series) by Ben Long, Richard Harrington, and Orlando Luna (Paperback - May 8, 2008), $33 at Amazon.com. Without working the tutorial many folks fail to experience the real power of this new killer-app software category.
Note that the value is in the tutorial, not in using the book as a manual. The time spent learning modern digital image capture workflow via the tutorial is invaluable.
Good luck! Have minimum 2 GB RAM on board before trialing Aperture.

  • How do I remove Aperture trial and go back to iPhoto (be kind, I'm new).

How do I remove the Aperture trial and go back to iPhoto.  For my usage (just iPhone pics/movies) iPhoto is okay for me, but now I cannot figure out how to remove Aperture, when I drag to Trash I get a warning that Aperture is a system file.
Please help, but also, please go slow if you can help, I am new to my Mac.

Should be pretty easy as follows:
1 - Make sure you have copies of any pictures you want that are inside Aperture somewhere on your computer.
2 - Quit Aperture > Remove any Aperture icon from dock > drag the Aperture program (lens icon) from Applications folder to the Trash > proceed through any warning dialog (including entering password as required) to complete the process.
Note - new security features in OS X Lion may present those warning dialogs to prevent accidental deletion of Apple programs.
3 - Hold down the 'Option' key and use the 'Go' menu in menu bar and select the 'Library' option.
4 - In the Library folder, open the 'Application Support' folder and delete any Aperture folder found.
5 - While still in the Library folder, open the 'Preferences' folder and delete both the 'com.apple.Aperture.plist' and 'com.apple.Aperture.plist.lockfile' file.
6 - While still in the Library folder, open the 'Caches' folder and delete the 'com.apple.Aperture' folder.
7 - Go the your 'Pictures' folder and drag the 'Aperture Library' (may be named Aperture Trial Library or similar) to the Trash to delete it as well.
8 - Empty the Finder Trash to remove Aperture.
Note - there are some files and Aperture folders in the '/Library' folder (which is in the root of your system drive), but you don't really need to remove those. Since you are a beginner, it is probably better not to for now.
    That should do it.
Additional edit: There are two Library folders I am referring to. The first is the one in your user account 'Home' folder which is the one you are going to by using the 'Go' menu. This is the one you are deleting files from in the steps listed. The second Library folder is the one in the root of your system drive and is not typically a location for beginners to work with (thus the final note above). Hope that is clear enough.

  • Error opening the database for the library "~/Pictures/Aperture Trial Library.aplibrary" error message

When starting up Aperature 3 I get the following Error Message :
"There was an error opening the database for the library “~/Pictures/Aperture Trial Library.aplibrary”.
I can't di a thing except Quit. I have restored from Time Machine and reloaded the Software from Disk. Still get the same message. Any suggestions Are appreciated.
    Jim

    Hello Jim,
I assume you trial Aperture Library is in your "Pictures" folder? Try to rename it to something like "OldApertureTrialLibrary.aplibrary", to force Aperture to create a new Application Library.
To rename the old Trial Library, select it in the Finder and enter Command(⌘)-I (short for File-> Get Info). Click on the file name text field and enter a new name.
Possibly you get this error message message, because there is some permissions problem. If you are not allowed to rename the file, click on the padlock in the lower right corner, authentificate as admin and give yourself read/write access to the trial library (in the "Sharing & Permissions" brick of the "Get Info" panel).
Post back, if your "ApertureTrialLibrary.aplibrary" contains valuable images that you would like to save or if this does not work and you need further advice.

  • Upgrading Aperture 3.4.5 from the App store

I try to upgrade Aperture 3.4.5 through software update, but I get an error message that says "We could not complete your update. Failed to verify the preflight file. It is not signed by Apple." I bought the software as a boxed DVD with licence no. Any solution to this problem?

Try this solution posted by Gaile from Maine:

  • Cannot upgrade aperture from 3.0 to 3.1.3

I cannot upgrade aperture from 3.0 to 3.1.3. The 3.0 was initially purchased as a download from the old Apple Store. Now it does not seem to recognise this version when I want to upgrade: "this upgrade requires Aperture 3"... which is ecactly what I have (and purchased!).

    OK, got it solved:
Re: Aperture 3.0.1 upgrade claims I don't have Aperture 3.0 installed
Feb 24, 2010 2:15 PM (in response to civilpooch)
The Aperture file you are upgrading must be in the root Applications folder AND the file must be named (exactly) "Aperture" (no quotes). If you've renamed your Aperture file to "Aperture 3" or something like that, the update will fail. Mark

  • Aperture Trial loaded but will not accept the emailed serial number

I downloaded the aperture trial, and received an email with the serial number to activate the trial but i keep being told the serial number is invalid!
I am concerned that my trial is counting down, and i cannot access it... can i register for another serial number or should i get help with getting this one working?

Serial number issues are most often related to typing it incorrectly. Either an accidental typo or confusing a zero with the letter "O". The best way to enter the serial number is to copy it from the email and paste it into Aperture.

  • Upgrading from trial to paid

    Hi,
I just upgraded from trial to paid (final cut pro x)
I thought it would just unlock the trial version, but instead it started downloading the 1.51 GB file again
(I clicked the buy button from the trial, it appeared to try to open the app store, but didn't,
so I opened it, searched and bought)
    My questions are:
    1) Is there some way to just update the trial so I don't have to wait for this download
    2) Biggest one, is wil my files from the trial be accessible?
I had 2 projects I put a lot of time into in there
    Thanks

Your existing Projects and Events will still be there when the paid version is installed and you can carry on editing them if you wish.
As far as I know, you have to wait for it to reinstall - which is curious because Apple claim the versions are identical.

  • Endless loop with pop-up window to upgrade Aperture

I have been using iPhoto and it keep updated.  Using v.9.4.2.  MaxOS is current v.10.7.5.  I have tried Aperture but not really used it and don't keep it updated.  It is v.2.1.4.  Recently I chose a pull-down setting in iPhoto to open photos in Aperture library (or somehting like that, I don't remember, I was just fumbling around).  I got a pop-up window stating:
"Aperture library needs to be upgraded.
To open this Aperture library in iPhoto, you need Aperture 3.3 or later.
Click Update Aperture to buy the latest version of Aperture from the Mac App Store.
After installing the update, open your library in Aperture to upgrade it."
The only options on this pop-up window are "Quit" or "Update Aperture".
If I choose "QUIT", iPhoto closes and I can't open the photos in my iPhoto library.
If I choose "Upgrade Aperture" I am re-directed to the APP Store where I can purchase Aperture for $79.99.
I didn't intend to open Aperture and I don't want to upgrade Aperture, either.
I only want to open iPhoto without the Aperture library.
I can't figure out a way to get me back to opening my photos in iPhoto without this pop-up window.
I thought there would be an iPhoto or Aperture preference file ending with ".plist" in iMacHD \ Library \ Preferences.  If so, I would delete it and then try to re-launce the iPhoto application.  I only found one relating to Aperture.  I deleted it and tried re-launching iPhoto and still get the pop-up window asking to upgrade Aperture.
I would like to remove Aperture and use only iPhoto, if I can.

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Aperture trial to full version

I have been using the aperture trial for 26 days, and I'm gonna get the full version, my question is, should I get the box, or the activation code. I ask this because I have some projects set up as well as a vault and I don't know if when the trial ends, I'll lose this stuff. Will that happen...also, is the documentation that important? I bought the Apple Pro Training series book, Getting Started with Aperture...do I need everything else that is bundled? Thanks
    1.83 ghz 2gb RAM MacBook Pro 100gb hd + 250gb external hd   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

And if all else fails, just backup ApertureTrial.dmg to a CD. (132MMB dmg will fit on a 700MB CD easily) That's version 1.5.0. Then just download the update and you're back.
Actually you might be able to download the updater as a standalone and back that up on the same CD.

  • Upgrade from trial version

How does one upgrade their trial version of Lightroom 5 (i.e. pay for a license) without having to re-install so the existing catalogue of photographs etc isn't deleted?
    Thanks

Unless I am missing something glaringly obvious, I cannot find any option to buy, register, upgrade to a full version of LR.  I can see I have two days left of a trial but there is no 'Lightroom Registration' option under help to just simply progress to purchase.
I also find it confusing and frustrating that options are wrapped up in CC membership - I own CS6, don't want to pay monthly - I just want to buy it, be assured I have a full version and get on with working with LR as I have been.
Any help would be greatly appreciated - I've exhausted forums and Adobe website.  As I say, might be missing something simple - so humble enough to have it pointed out to me.
    Many thanks.

  • Upgrading from Trial version to Developer Edition

We installed SQL server 2014 trial edition in 2014 and the trial period just expired. No longer access SQL server 2014. Also in 2014 I purchased the SQL server 2014 Developer Edition.
I go in the maintenance section of SQL server 2014 and try to upgrade by entering my product key and get an error message that my product key is not valid. I called Microsoft and two different employees confirmed my product key is good.
Should I be able to upgrade from Trial version to Developer Edition by simply entering my product key?
    Thank you

    Hi cguay01,
As other post, you should be able to upgrade from Trial Edition to Developer Edition by entering product key from SQL Server setup wizard, you can follow the steps in this similar
blog. You can also use the following command lines to upgrade SQL Server 2014 Trial to a full version.
    Setup.exe /q /ACTION=editionupgrade /INSTANCENAME=<MSSQLSERVER or instancename> /PID=<PID key for new edition>" /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS
According to your description, the issue that “product key is not valid” might be caused by several reasons such as corrupted installation file, antivirus scanning and so on. There are some proposals for you troubleshooting this issue.
    1. Please ensure that your SQL Server installation file is not corrupted. If you are using ISO download, please copy the content of the ISO image to the local disk on your computer and upgrade SQL Server from there.
    2. Make sure you use corresponding license key matched the edition and version of SQL Server.
    3. Make sure that you don’t exceed the limit of allowed activations of the product key.
    4. Turn off any Anti-virus software when upgrading SQL Server.
