Upgrading from Oracle 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.2

we have recently migrated an application from HP-UX environment (with Oracle 9i) to LINUX (with Oracle 10.2.0.4)
now a thought is being given for upgrading the databases to 11.2.0.2.
i wanted to know if their would be any major differences between 10.2.0.4 and 11.2.0.2, which would require us to make changes in the codes (we are using Pro* C/Pro* C++ in our application source codes)
could anyone please guide me on this?
info on current server:
the current server uses LINUX REL 5 (64 bit) and Oracle 10.2.0.4

Hi,
you can start at Oracle Support with "Master Note for Precompilers, OCI and OCCI [ID 1129588.1]", this note give also relevant notes about Pro*C. Further reading will then include the next note: "Note 377161.1 Precompiler FAQ's About Migration / Upgrade", this states some differences between the versions.

  • After upgradation from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g,one proc is throwing error

recently upgraded from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g. We have some Oracle procedures which are not working in Oracle 10g.
A section of code from one of the procedures looks somewhat like the code below:
    Declare
    Cursor c_matched_records (…..) is
    Select a.field 1, b.field2
    From table1 a, table2 b
    Where a.field3=b.field1
    FOR UPDATE;
    BEGIN
    For records in c_matched_records
    LOOP
    -- Continue processing
    -- Update records
    COMMIT;
    END LOOP;
END;This section of the code throws out the following error in Oracle 10g
ORA-01002: fetch out of sequence during PUT outputFile file
However this code was working fine in Oracle 9i.
    please help me with this?
    Thanks

I believe you are lucky that the pl/sql is okay in Oracle 9i. How about remove the commit statement? Why do you need it in the loop. I look up metalink. You may refer to article ID 257914.1

  • Upgrade from oracle 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.2

We have a need to test the upgrade from oracle 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.2. For the 10.2.0.4 DB, we are not using RMAN for back-up. We are using manual file back-up of data files, archives etc.,
The OS is Suse 10 Linux or HP-UX 11.
If we want to use RMAN on the 11.2.0.2 DB, do we need to take any extra steps for RMAN before upgrade / after upgrade? Any relevant advice is welcome. thanks.

    1. Take all datafiles backup with current controlfile.
    2. Take all the archive logs backup before up gradation start.
    3. If possible take a cold backup as well.
    Regards

  • Upgrade from oracle 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.4 Server or Clients first?

    Hello,
I'm planning to Upgrade from oracle 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.4 on Windows
Server and Clients ar running now on 10.2.0.3.
I cannot Upgrade both at the same time.
What is recommend to upgrade first? Server or Clients?
    Thank you!
    stepe

    Hi,
No matter the order the client / server compatibility is not so strict. Check MOS note 207303.1
You can connect with a 10.2.0.3 client on a 10.2.0.4 database or with a 10.2.0.4 client on a 10.2.0.3 database. In fact you could even connect with a 9.2.0.8 client if it was still supported.
As Ollear mentioned you client application needs of course to be tested but it should work fine.
Notice the 10.2.0.5 patchset has been released.
    Best regards
    Phil

  • Upgrading from Oracle 10G standard edition to Oracle 10G enterprise edition

    Hi
I want to upgrade from Oracle 10G standard edition to Oracle 10G enterprise edition. Is there any script provided by oracle which I can run on existing Oracle 10G standard edition to upgrade to enterprise edition after completing the licensing formalities or do I need to install Oracle 10g Enterprise edition from scratch and then migrate my data.
    Ramanbir S

You will not need to perform any data migration to upgrade to EE. The diffetence between standard en enerprise editions are the features offered. When you upgrade you can use the same set of files you used to install standard edition and just add the enterprise edition features you want to use in the 'Custom' section of the Universal Installer.

  • Upgrade from Oracle 9.2 to 11.2

    Hi
I want to do a upgrade from oracle 9.2 to oracle 11.2 (Step by Step procedure).
Please kindly share simple procedure for upgrade and checks need to me done post upgrade.
if possible scripts for post upgrade.
    Jass

You have basically two ways how to do this. The first method is to upgrade the database either manually or using Database Upgrade Assistant. You have to be on the last 9.2. patchset or have to upgrade to the last patchset first. This method was suggested by Srini and you should really read those documents, that he suggested, before you will proceed with this.
The other method is to simply create a new empty 11.2 database and then transfer data using exp/imp utility. This method can be used no matter what version you are on and it is usually rather straightforward process with very few problems to deal with. However, it is time consuming as all data has to be exported and imported, which might not be possible if your database is big and your outage window too short. There are ways how to shorten the outage significantly when using this method, but that would be for longer talk.
You will also need more disk space, preferably enough that you will be able to fit both databases (old 9.2 and new 11.2) concurrently.

  • Upgrade from Oracle 9.2.0.1 to Oracle 9.2.0.4

    Hi,
I want to upgrade from Oracle 9.2.0.1 client to Oracle 9.2.0.4 client, from where I can find 9.2.0.4 version. Can any tell me what is patch number for this. my orale admin tried to find the patch but he did not had any success.
    Thanks

Here you can tell your admin:
After logon Metalink, click on "Patches" at the left side -> Click on the 3rd link (Quick Links to the Latest Patchsets, Mini Packs, and Maintenance Packs) -> Move your mouse over "Oracle Database", then a blue box shows up -> Select a platform(example: Microsoft Windows 32-bit) -> click on 9.2.0.4 (or 9.2.0.5) -> Click on Patch number at the lower part then you can download it.
After the patch installed, you will see the release number from your SQL*Plus session.

  • Is it really necessary to Upgrade from Oracle EBS R11i to R12?

    Hi,
Oracle Applications 11.0.3 (Oracle Financials) was implemented in our company and later in 2006 it was upgraded to 11.5.10 (with new implementation of Supply Chain Management Module - INV,OM and PO) and 2 months ago we upgraded it to 11.5.10.2+DB 11gR2.
I've been recommending to upgrade to R12 but the Finance Users are reluctant for an upgrade and of the opinion that the R12 has many bugs and there will be issues after upgrade to R12.
Once of the consultant is of the opinion that its better to re-implement R12 instead of Upgrade. He also tells me that R12 does not have sub-accounting and sub-ledger and trial balance reports in AP.Since I am not a Functional Consultant I could not comment on this.
Please advice if there are any useful docs which address the upgrade to R12 issues which I can share with our consultant and users.
I am currently going thru +Upgrade Advisor: Oracle E-Business Suite Financials and Projects Upgrade from 11.5.10.2 to 12.1.3 and 12.1.2 [ID 256.1]+

R12.1.x is a stable release that many customers (including Oracle themselves) have upgraded to.

The Finance modules have been completely re-written and fucntionality had changed for the better. Re-implementation typically costs upto 3 times more than a upgrade. Re-implementation is not necessary if the business model and process have not changed. What are the consultants justifications for doing a re-implementation (other than making more money) ?

  • Upgrading from Oracle 9.1.0.8 to Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2)

    Hello everyone;
We are in the process of looking into  upgrading from our current Oracle 9.1.0.8 to Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2): Windows
We would like to download and install the 10.2.0.1 base release (Oracle Software).   When I go on SAP Marketplace
https://websmp210.sap-ag.de/oracle-download  and goto the (Software Download) section and click on
Oracle 10.2 Software (32-bit versions) to download  I receive a error  NO DATA AVAILABLE.
Is there another area to download the Oracle Software? or do I need to purchase a CD from SAP or can I download this base release straight from Oracle?
Thanks for your time and have a great day.

    Hello Pellegrino,
just download it from the SAP container for each product .. for example
-> Installations and Upgrades - Entry by Application Group -> SAP NetWeaver -> SAP NETWEAVER 7.0 -> Windows Server -> ORACLE

    Recommendations
Oracle recommends gathering dictionary statistics prior to
    upgrading the database.
To gather dictionary statistics execute the following commands
    while connected as SYSDBA:
    EXECUTE dbms_stats.gather_schema_stats('CTXSYS',options=>'GATHER'

Oracle recommends removing all hidden parameters prior to upgrading.
To view existing hidden parameters execute the following command
    while connected AS SYSDBA:
SELECT name, description from SYS.V$PARAMETER WHERE name
    LIKE '\_%' ESCAPE '\'

From system tablespace minimum required size means free space from system tablespace or total size of system tablespace?
i am going to use dbua utility for upgrade means does it alter tablespace as per output of scripts or we need to manually alter tablespace size as per requirement?

  • Issues after Upgrade from Oracle 10.1.0.5 to 10.2.0.5 in Windows Server2003

    Good Morning Good People,
I have run in to some issues after upgrading my 10.1.0.5 database to 10.2.0.5. Initially after the firtst upgrade from 10.1.0.5 to 10.2.0.0 one has to run Critical Patch set 4 to get to 10.2.0.5. Well after initial up grade everything worked fine. I could connect to the database from within the server as well as remotely through SQL*PLUS client. However, after completeing the patch I'm still able to connect to the database from within the server, but remotely i get the following error:
ORA-12514 : TNS Listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor.
I also get Error ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor The Connection descriptor used by the client was: (description=(address=(host=mcquery2)(protocol=tcp)(port=1521))(connect_data=(sid=mcquery)(server=dedicated)))
I've tried serval different things to trouble shoot the issue but nothing seems to work.
If anyone has run into s similar issue please help. This is ruining my weekend! LOL!

  • Password problem in oracle 10g after upgrading from oracle 9i

    Hi to all,
    i'm migrating oracle 9i to oracle 10g. in oracle 9i username/password are same character(eg kareem/kareem)
after upgrading to oracle 10g will it create any problem. Because in oracle 10g the condition is when creating user is username and password should not contain same character (kareem/kareem not allowed).
    Thanks in advance

in oracle 10g document, they have mention below condition to create user. See the second condition.
    • Passwords must be between 4 and 30 characters long.
    • Passwords cannot be the same as the user name.
    • Passwords must be from the database character set and can include the underscore (_), dollar ($), and pound sign (#) characters.
    • Passwords cannot be Oracle reserved words.
    • Don't start the password with a numeral.
    • Don's use change_on_install or manager as passwords, since they are used by Oracle.
As i'm going to upgrade oracle 9i to 10g. if it give problem because username and password are same then i have to request my development team to change the password in their application. Can you please verify and tell me.

  • DB Upgrade from Oracle 8i to Oracle 11g express edition

    Hello,
As per the requirement i have to upgrade some of our application from oracle 8i to oracle 11g express edition on window base platform.
I am using import/export utility to migrate data from oracle 8i database to newly installed oracle 11g XE database. after importing i have tested my application in testing environment. It is working fine. Now I have to do this in production env. before proceeding with it.
please someone let me know what all things i have to keep in mind before execute in prod env. Like all risk, databse backup recovery, or any guidelines need to follow while upgrading lower version of oracle to 11g XE version.
    waiting for your valuable inputs.

You might want to consider what other programs interacts with the database; can they still connect to a much newer db server version? Any integrations that need a dry run before going in production? Any other "ad hoc" applications, like excel, running against the db? (you could use listener.log to find out what connects to the db, but a year worth of history might be needed)
Do you have any scripts or other "loosly coupled" stuff that needs review?
Read the New features guides released between versions - there are five or six of them.
Check out the Database Upgrade forum (you could look at this as an upgrade in general from 8.1.x to 11.2), {forum:id=583}. Search the forum for previous related topics and ideas.
