Upgrading Question, not specifically Illustrator (Mac)

Hi,
I currently run the CS3 Web Premium suite on a QuadCore Intel Mac. 10.5.8. This is an upgrade from CS, and then from CS2. I am purchasing the CS5 Design Premium upgrade.
(I didn't do the previous upgrading, so i have no idea how it works, what happens, steps involved, etc.)
My question is this. I want to purchase a laptop. How do I install the new CS5 upgrade on the laptop? Do I have to go way, way back to my original CS, install it, "upgrade' it to CS2, upgrade it to CS3, then do the CS5 upgrade? Or do I just directly install the CS5?
Sorry if this is pretty basic, or if it should be posted elsewhere.
Thanks for any help.

To install on a second system, you need the CS5 DVDs and their serial number, and the serial number of your original full version purchase.  There's no need to install any older versions if you don't want them installed. All you need is the serial number.

  • Bit of an odd upgrade question (not iPhone related I swear!).

Alright, so here is the situation. I will be the first to say I suck at figuring out the hows and whys of these things. I am hoping some of you are Verizon gurus and can explain this all to me.
Right now I am rocking an HTC Touch Pro 2, nifty phone, for its time it was a beast, lost its edge to the Droid behemoth these days though. Anyways I am looking to upgrade. I was mulling around the idea of an iPhone but have decided against it. I did however go to the page and plugged in the information to buy an iPhone, despite my new every two/upgrade period still being six months away it said my line was eligible for an upgrade and was going to give me the promo price of $199/299 to get locked into another two year contract. I also recall recieving a text a while back saying I could do the same thing for the Droid X.
My question is, is this promotion limited to certain phones? I really have my eye set on the Thunderbolt and I am wondering if when that phone hits it will let me lock myself into a new 2 year contract for the promo price of that phone like it would have the Droid X and iPhone.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Sounds like you ARE eligible for your annual upgrade (are you the primary, or only line on the account? IS you base plan $49.99 or more per month?)
You can get the 2 yr promo pricing on a new phone, you lose any additional $30 or $50 credit you may be eligible for, and there is a $20 upgrade fee. For some, it's worth that to get the early upgrade at 12 months rather than 20 months on a 2 year contract.

  • Installing Windows 7 64 Bit Upgrade on a Multi-disk Mac Pro

A lot of the information I found to help me with this issue scattered all around so I thought I'd consolidate it in one place.
The situation: I wanted to install Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit on my boot camp partition. Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit was already installed.
    My System:
    Mac Pro (early 2008)
2x Quad Core 3.0GHZ Zeon Processors
    12GB Ram
    3x 500GB Hard Drives
    OS X 10.6.2
    Boot Camp Assistant: 3.0.1
    The Issues:
1.You cannot directly update a previous 32 bit installation with a 64 bit installation. You have to do a clean install.
2.If you do a clean install with an upgrade disk it will most likely not activate.
3.Windows 7 does not like more than 4 partitions. More than 4 it will fail to install.
4.Windows 7 does not like GPT (GUID Partition Table) disks and will fail to install if it detects one.
What worked for me after a fair number of false starts:
1.Put the Windows 7 Installation disk in your DVD drive.
2.Start Boot Camp Assistant and create a Boot Camp partition. I deleted my old Boot Camp partition prior to beginning. *DO NOT* start the install from the Boot Camp assistant. Once you create the Boot Camp Partition close the assistant.
3.Power down your computer. (Remember the Windows DVD is in the drive, leave it there.)
4.Remove any extraneous drives that are GPT or cause you to have more than 4 partitions. I installed on my second hard drive and removed the 1st and 3rd.
5.Restart your Mac holding down the “c” key to make it boot from the Windows install disk that is in the DVD drive.
6.Once the Windows Installer is active do a “Custom” installation.
7.Use the Installer utilities to format the Boot Camp partition as NTFS.
8.Install Windows 7 on that partition, but do not try to activate it at this time.
9.When Windows restarts you may have to hold down the “Option” key (Alt if you are using a PC Keyboard) and select the Windows restart disk.
10.Once you boot into Windows do all of the updates.
11.Once the updates are done, make sure you are booted into Windows and call Microsoft support and explain the issue (doing a clean installation with an upgrade disk.) The issue is very common and not specific to Mac users so they will pass you to Tech support and help you activate your copy of Windows.
12.Download (from Windows) the Boot Camp update and install it.
13.You should be fine at this point, at least I sincerely hope so
    14. I also had a sound issue but that was resolved by downloading the latest Realtek HD Audtio Manager and wiggling the sound jack where my stereo system was plugged in, the RCA jack in the back of the system.
(Note: I haven't been able to locate my Boot Camp program or tray like I had on my Vista installation. I' haven't really looked. It isn't that big a hassle to hold down the “Option” key when I restart and just pick the OS I want to boot into.)
I hope this helps anyone that is having issues similar to what I experienced.

Not always. I tried. Easier to reinstall Windows 7 over itself, activated fine. Or just do the legal thing and buy full copy. Mac Pro owners that want dual processor support need Pro or Ultimate (Enterprise also) rather than Home Premium.
I would NOT use Boot Camp 3.1, it causes problems for number of Mac Pro owners, though maybe not all so unclear what/why) but just stay with Boot Camp 3.0x from the Snow Leopard DVD (which can have trouble with AppleHFS)

  • Trying to upgrade my kids iPod 10.6.3 since error msg shows that iPod needs 10.6.3 to work. But it won't show up in my iTunes when I plug in to my laptap. NOT on a MAC

    Hello,
I cannot see my son's iPod now when I plug it in to my laptop. It gives error message saying  that iPod needs upgraded 10.6.3 to work.
We cannot update  iPod to 10.6.3 for some reason. But what is really strange is that it won't even show up when we plug it in to try to update! I do not have a MAC please don't say that's the problem haha, i have an older laptop with Windows running, maybe Windows 2000, not sure (how would I find out what is installed on the comupter?)  My ipod works fine and so do our other 2. It's just his iPod? I have an older 64g touch, but his siblings all have the same 4th generation, bought at the same time from the same store.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

You need at least XP with service pack 3. Go to Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance (for XP)>System,
What does the screen for the computer show when it is starting up?

If the "it" refers to a compressed (zipped) spreadsheet that you downloaded, the ".ods" extension is used by LibreOffice and probably OpenOffice (which are free versions of MS Office) for spreadsheets, which would suggest that wherever you're getting that "Excel" file from has switched to one of those programs. I've tried opening an .ods file from LibreOffice using MS Office 2013 for Windows and it does open though with a warning that some things have been changed. I don't know if Office for Mac can normally open .ods files. But if your need is to just open .ods files, take a look at LibreOffice.

Try starting up your Mac while holding down the Option key. That should prompt the Startup Manager window where you can select the startup disk then click Restart.
The question mark folder indicates your Mac cannot find a system folder to boot from.

  • Illustrator CC not working on Mac OS 10.6.8

Illustrator CC won't launch. I am running Mac OS 10.6.8. (Note, this is not Illustrator CC 2014, this is Illustrator CC)
I go to reinstall Illustrator and I get a message stating "You are running an operating system that Illustrator no longer supports. Refer to the system requirements for a full list of supported platforms."
I checked the system requirements for Illustrator CC, and it states that Illustrator CC is supported on Mac OS 10.6.8. Why can I not download Illustrator CC for Mac OS 10.6.8?

The Creative Cloud app (you need for installing) is not supported on 10.6.8

The current version will not run on Mac OS 10.6.8. Thanks for any assistance.
The easiest way would be to update to at least 10.7.5 (supported on most older Macs) but maybe you have strong reasons not to do so, however it will put you in to more trouble in the future because newer applications have more often the habit of not being able to support older OS versions due to limitations of this old OS.
Here is the announcement of Adobe:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/creativecloud/moving-ahead-with-mac-os-x-10-7-and-higher/
However PS CC should still work on your system and otherwise CS6 should. As a cloud subscriber you still have access to both CC and CS6 on the Adobe CC download pages. But only PS is a major upgrade (changed to version 2014) and Bridge has just a minor update and should still work on 10.6.8 I would think?
Installing the updates and upgrades did not remove or uninstall the CC versions of PS, otherwise use CC application to install CC again.
