Upgrading Sony Vaio E Series HDD to SSD

I want to upgrade my Sony Vaio E Series Hard drive to a SSD and was wondering what type of SSD I should get since ive heard that certain ones will not work with this laptop.
Thanks

Any SSD should work fine in that notebook. I would reccommend a 256 GB Crucial M4. All you have to do is make recovery discs with the Sony system software, copy all your personal files, favorites, and preferences to a flash drive, have the SSD installed, and then use the recovery discs to rebuild your system. Once you do all that, you just copy your stuff off the flash drive and install all the software updates.

  • Can IInstall OS X Snow leopard on my Sony VAIO E-series?

I just recently well literally today got delivered my OS X Snow leopard installation disk and I was wondering is there a way to install Snow leopard on my Sony VAIO E series SVE1512K1EB because I want to make a hackintosh :3 Now I know Apple is against this an all but I just would like to experiment. when I openthis up I only see this (see photo below)
Now as you can see from the pic I it says bootcamp and stuff and the setup application did nothing to be honest. Have I actually bought the
official Snow leopard OS because the DVD only
says 800Mb which is nothing and a mac OS is
normally 5GB. Can I have some help? because
Miscrosoft support said come here lol and I really want to install this cool OS on my partitioned HDD
specially named Snow leopard lol. I have tried fooling around with the BIOS and I have restarted and seen if the PC said "do you want to install..." but no luck and the disk drive does rev up like something is going one but nothing. Can some one please just help me? :3
Here is another picture of my laptop and the OS ontop.

No, there is no way to do this. OS X drivers will not be compatible, and it violates the OS X license.
This is an Apple site, so we will not help you with hackintoshes. You need to seek help elsewhere.

  • Does the SONY VAIO F Series SVF15412CXB support dual channel memory?

Does the SONY VAIO F Series SVF15412CXB support dual channel memory?  Or does it only have one slot?
I'm curious if I can put a second stick of RAM in there for dual channel performance.

Hi Mark, Thanks for the response.  Can you please double check that for me, or post a link to the documentation where you saw that?  I asked this question on Newegg, too, and one of the respondants heard differently:
"i found out from sony that there is only 1 slot cause i was gonna get 1 more 4GB stick of ram for 8Gb. So iwas upset about that cause i have to get 8GB now and it costs 100$ for an 8Gb stick of ram on ebay. So this ram is expensive. So im sticking with 4Gb for now. This is a very good laptop though. I use it primarily for minecarft and steam and i get around 100 fps on minecraft so its good. I hope this helps." It's just confusing because other laptop advertisments I've seen openly stated how many RAM slots the computer had and how many were used upon purchase.  I haven't found anything like that which makes me think that there's only one slot for RAM. Thanks,Gremark

  • Can i change the processor ? Sony Vaio E Series

Hello I have a Sony Vaio Model sve1513b1ewIt has a Intel Pentium 2020M Processor Can i be able to change the processor to a i3 or i5 ?

    Hi gasspari,
Thank you for considering Sony Community!
We do not advise Vaio users to upgrade or modify certain parts of their units, especially the processor. It is still possible but we cannot guarantee that it will work without any issues. Another thing is, your Vaio SVE1513B1EW is not a U.S. model and we have limited information about your computer.

  • Sony Vaio FZ Series - LCD brightness

    Hi All,
I have recently bought a Sony VAIO FZ11S and I've successfully installed Archlinux:
    Fully working:
    - CPU Scaling (using cpudyn)
    - Multimedia keys (mute, volume up/down, play/stop, etc. using Xmodmap)
    - Wireless (using iwl3945. Can't connect with AP with hidden SSID)
    - Nvidia GeForce 8400M (using latest nvidia drivers with stock arch kernel 2.6.23)
    - Audio (after adding 'options snd-hda-intel model=vaio' to /etc/modprobe.conf. MIC not tested yet)
    Untested:
    - bluetooth
    - SD/MS card reader
    - Video camera
    NOT WORKING:
    - LCD brightness adjustment: FN+F5/F6 are detected correctly by acpid but nothing happens. I'm using the module sony-laptop included with kernel 2.6. Folder /sys/class/backlight is empty. I can use nvidia-settings to change COLOR BRIGHTNESS but this is NOT a good solution IMHO. I'd like to get the same capabilities I get running Windows Vista. (change LCD backlight).
I've read somewhere it is a problem common to all laptop with the same NVIDIA videocard. Does anyone know a fix for this? I've also tried with  latest nvidia beta drivers with no success.
    - Hibernate/suspend. I tried with pm-tools to suspend/hibernate laptop but nothing is working correctly. I didn't investigate further. Has anyone got a quick solution for this?

I recently bought a Sony FZ180, almost identical stats and hardware.
I tried all the same suggestions, which worked fine on my old laptop, but will not for this one. If anyone can think of another method to control the backlight I would be grateful.
Also, I tested the SD slot, the TI driver recognizes when a card is inserted, but no devices or mount-points are created.
    tifm_core: MMC/SD card detected in socket 0:1
tifm0 : demand removing card from socket 0:1
(The second line is from me removing the card, not a defective slot.)
Everything else works great, though. Arch boots to a full KDE desktop much, much faster than my cleaned-up vista partition. I'm really happy overall.

  • Anybody know why my Sony Vaio S series won't recognise my iPhone 3GS ?

I just bought a Sony Vaio S with Intel i5 chip, however when i plug in my iPhone 3GS absolutely nothing happens. The phone doesn't even charge - I've checked the cable with my old Dell and it works . I've downloaded the latest iTunes and can't seem to work out why I'm getting zilch from the laptop? I've tried all 3 USBs on the thing but still no good.

  • Sony Vaio F Series Screen Colors Brushed Out

Hi, Im running Windows 7 Home Premium on my Vaio VPCF235FG, I did windows recovery but the colors seem brushed out. I did update my Nvedia Driver but still same issue. I did some researches on google and I found out it has to do with Monitor LED not getting enough power to give full color depth something like that, but I dont know which driver or software patch I have to download to fix this issue. Please help

    Hi Hu22aM,
    Welcome To Sony Community!
We're sorry to hear this. I have few questions for you to help me understand what's really going on.
When did it star to happen?
May I know why you needed to do windows recovery? Is this when the computer went back to factory setting?
If so how did you do it, was it using a recovery disc or through the partition ?
Let's try to isolate the issue
    Turn of the laptop
Go to BIOS by repeatedly hitting F2 right after you turn it on (was the color brushed out)
If the screen color is the same then it means that it's a hardware issue (repair is needed
If screen if normal, then go to the Sony website and update the drivers and software.

    hi filippo,
Yes you can use that SSD Samsung MZ-7TD250BW 840 Series Solid State Drive (SSD) 250 GB Sata 2.5-Inch as the Q190 uses a standard SATA 3.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide HDD as per this pdf data sheet.

  • Have a Sony Viao E series and get an "imcompatible display driver" error message

Get an "Incompatible Display Driver" error message when attempting to use Adobe Premiere Elements 12 on a Sony Vaio E series laptop.
    How to solve this problem?
    Thanks

I Googled, and Sony says that is a discontinued model, so I can't find a specification page
Amazon does have a couple models, and BOTH say motherboard integrated Intel graphics adapter
That makes me think the laptop discussed here has Intel AND AMD graphics adapters
To the OP (Original Poster) Go to the Windows Control Panel and select Hardware and Sound and then select Device Manager... In Device manager you click the + sign to the left of Display Adapters... and see if 2 are listed

  • Upgrading Envy 17 3D primary HDD to a SSD

I was wondering the steps I would need to take inorder to upgrade my current 640GB 7200 HDD to a SSD.I read this thread about the compatibility so I am aware of some issues I may have.
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Hardware-Upgrades-Replacements/Envy-17-SSD-compatibility/td-p/1251555
I have an Envy 17 3D which I bought around this time last year so its probably an Envy 17-1000 - 17-1099 series.  It came with w7 home preinstalled on a 640GB HDD 7200.  I want to put an SSD in the primary slot and use the current 640 in the secondary slot.  I have the HDD caddy for the secondary slot already  I just need to know what are the steps I need to take to install the SSD properly.
Here are a few questions I have:
I know the Envy is sata2 but most SSD are sata3, would a sata3 SSD be backwards compatible with my Envy?
Would you use the backup disk made from the 640GB HDD and install it on the SSD or would I get a fresh copy of w7 to install?
If using a fresh copy of w7 pro would system, videocard and 3d drivers be an issue since its not HP's version of w7?
when the SSD is finally installed can i just pop my 640 in the secondary drive slot and pull the personal files then format or do I have to get the personal files off beforhand?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi,
    Q1: Yes it is compatible.
Q2: I would suggest to create a minimized recovery dvd in HP Recovery Manager. Solid drives are not as big as the original hdd and it may cause troubles when restoring the system on an ssd.
Q3: An OEM Windows disk may be used to perform a fresh install and necessary drivers download from HP.
Q4: Yes, just install the hdd in the secondary bay and it will be worked as a slave drive so back up all data you need and then reformat it..

  • Upgrade HDD to SSD (Do i need to re-install?)

I just bought an SSD (Samsung 470 series is the one thats best with MBP right?) and i want to replace it with the stock HDD that came with my 2011 MBP 13".
What if i upgrade RAM from 4GB to 8GB and transfer from HDD to SSD by carbon copy cloner. Do i need to re-install Lion then?
Is TRIM automatically enabled if i transfer from HDD to SSD?

Upgrading the RAM is fine by itself. Just know you only have two slots, and thus need matching pairs of 4GB modules to increase the RAM from 4GB to 8GB. If you have $900, OtherWorld Computing has 16GB of RAM (two 8GB modules) for sale. (no compensation)
Use the online Crucial checker and MacTracker to make sure your getting the correct specs of the RAM (and the amount of modules) before purchasing.
What you need to do is use the free to use (donations accepted) Carbon Copy Cloner on the HDD while it's still in the machine, clone to a external powered drive and hold option to boot from it, test it out that it works.
Then make the HDD to SSD switch and option boot from the clone again, format the SSD HFS+ Journaled and use CCC to clone it onto the SSD.
OtherWorld Computing and iFixit has videos, pictures, instructions and tools needed.
When you clone, it clones the OS X partition only, not both your OS X partition and the Lion Recovery Partition, which in your case is unnecessary to have if you have a "hold option" bootable clone. (should keep two at times)
If you need to download Lion installer again, simply use MacAppStore and hold option and click on Purchases, either in Lion or Snow Leopard and then make a couple of " hold c" bootable DVD's from these instructions.
    http://www.eggfreckles.net/notes/burning-a-lion-boot-disc/
These DVD's made from these instructions contain the full OS X Lion, not a Recovery Lion disk or the Lion Recovery Partition which Apple provides a download for and requires a lengthily Internet connection to download Lion before it's installed.
Far as setting the TRIM, I don't know about that. Hopefully someone else will answer.
If not ask Dave (Bmer) over here:
    http://macosg.com/
He replaced his hard drive with a OCZ Vertex, the fastest SSD's on the planet and also his Superdrive with a 7,200 RPM 750GB drive for storage (note: you can't boot from a Lion/Snow/Windows DVD from a external optical drive) so he would know best what to do.
Also OCZ just came out with a 480 gb or so very fast SSD, the Vertex 3 series, just as fast as the smaller SSD's but with more storage capacity, so that would be worth checking into. (smaller SSD's are faster, larger older ones are just a bit faster than a regular hard drive)
Also check out your Mac model's SATA number using the fre MacTracker and System Profiler, this way you can by the right SSD for the price and know your bus speed limitation accessing the SSD.
    Good luck.

  • Is Vaio E Series " VPCEH3AEN" Laptop compatible to upgrade into Windows 10?

I am using Vaio E Series "VPCEH3AEN" Laptop from August 2012 with Windows 7 Home Basic (SP1) Pre-installed. Till today I have faced no technical or Software Issue. In the month of June 2015 I have received an offer from Microsoft to upgrade the OS into Windows 10 and I have reserved a copy of Windows 10 for my PC. After 29th July a message appears in "Get Windows 10" app that "You are good to go. Your PC will work with Windows 10"After that a huge amount of data is downloading as Windows update, it might be the setup of Windows 10 and will complete the download by tomorrow, I think. Now my question is that - " Is my Vaio E Series " VPCEH3AEN" Laptop compatible to upgrade into Windows-10? " as it also meets the system requirements and I am very much excited to go with Windows 10 as early as possible. In SONY's website I have got the message that the limitations and issues will be informed in August 2015 for this VAIO model but I don't want to wait for the whole month. Can You please confirm whether SONY is preparing Drivers for this VAIO Model to run Windows 10 properly or what will be the guaranteed Issues I must note while upgrading into Windows 10? Is there any way to revert from Windows 10 to my recent Operating System if I face any issue with Windows 10 after installation of the same (especially for this model)?

I upgraded my VPCCB laptop to Win10. The process was really smooth and I notice no issue at all so far. My computer is fairly similar to yours I believe (sold in the similar time frame). But again, every computers are different, so upgrade at your own risk. Make sure you back up your important data and have a Windows disk (either Win7 or Win8) around just in case. There is a "revert back to previous operating system" option in Win10. You can also do that if Win10 is too buggy for you.

  • M4 SSD 256GB 2.5 inch sometimes not booting on Sony Vaio VGN-FZ11E

I installed a Crucial m4 SSD 256GB 2.5 inch on the Sony Vaio laptop VGN FZ11E using the kit provided. The operating system used is Windows Vista. The drive worked great the first time I booted the laptop, but since the second booting the system sometime stops while booting and I have to force the computer to restart till at some points it works (which can be after 1, 2, 3, 4 or even more attempts). The computer starts and the drive works for the first 10 seconds or so, then when the WLAN light of the laptop comes up, it stops working (no hard disk light). I have installed the last firmware, checked the drivers and made sure that the m4 drive is recognised and prioritized in the BIOS (this is the only drive installed, and it has a partition which is hidden). I have done a Power Cycle as recomended on the Crucial website, but this did not solve the problem. Any suggestions?

Hi, I have the same issue you are describing, with "Operating system not found", not the one laurentzo says. My VAIO VGN-FE11H with BIOS R0174J3 gets stuck at this point, and that happens many times with this version of BIOS. With version R0074J3 also happened, but I have the perception that it was less usual. Anyway, I tried to upgrade my BIOS because the failure is unacceptable, and 8 of 10 times I can´t boot my laptop because the disk is not recognised, despite the fact that when it boots, everything works perferctly. My BX100 250GB firmware is MU02, and my situation is quite desperating, because the workaround that you suggest isn't working.Would you please update this firmware, or would you know any BIOS parameter that could make it boot at least half of the times??P.S.: I have also tried enabling AHCI on BIOS, etc.
