Upgrading to Java 1.4.1 on OS X

On http://www.apple.com/java/ they state:
The Java 1.4.1 Update 1, now available from software update, improves stability, memory usage, and correctness. Requires
Mac OS X v10.2.6 or later.
Following the link one is directed to:
http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/softwareupdates.html
Apparently one should be able to upgrade the Java version by doing a standard Mac 'Software Updates'. I have installed the Mac "compilation" upgrade (100Mb) but Java didn't follow that. After a restart and running the tool again, I still do not see Java in the list of available updates (and there are no 'compilation packs' where Java might be).
Anyone know how to upgrade the Java version on a Mac? I can't believe how difficult this turned out to be.

Here is a helpful link for more info...

Q: What version of Java is included on Mac OS X?
A: Mac OS X v10.3, "Panther", is now shipping with an updated Java 1.4.1. A Java 1.4.1 Update 1 for Mac OS X v10.2.6 ("Jaguar") is currently being updated for compatibility with other software updates, and will be made available again shortly. Both releases are based on the J2SE 1.4.1_01 JDK with the HotSpot Client VM, and contain a number of bug fixes and performance enhancements since the initial Java 1.4.1 release.
Q: Does Mac OS X support multiple J2SE versions on a single OS installation?
A: The Panther and Jaguar releases of Mac OS X include both 1.3.1 and 1.4.1 J2SE implementations. Earlier releases of Jaguar did not ship with Java 1.4.1, but can obtain 1.4.1 through Software Update. With 1.4.1 installed, the standard command-line commands such as java and javac use 1.4.1. Apple developer tools such as Jar Bundler and Xcode both allow you to specify a Java version for double-clickable apps to use. Please see the Java 1.4.1 Info.plist Dictionary Keys documentation for details on how this is done.

I was able to download the update via Software Updates. But the response "currently being updated" means that it may have been pulled off the update list temporarily.
On the other hand, if it does not appear in the list of available updates when you run Software Update, you may already have it.
Launch a terminal and enter "java -version". What is the output?

    Upgrade your OS:
Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
             7. Xserve (Early 2009)
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
Am I eligible for the free upgrade?
See Apple - Free OS X Mountain Lion upgrade Program.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

  • Upgrade default java version in Solaris 8?

I have Solaris 5.8 running on sun blade system. Default Java version is 1.2.2 and user need it to upgraded to latest version of Java so, I installed jre1.6.0 (combination of 32-bit install and 64 bit install). Now I can't point solaris to look at the newly installed java version. I have tried to change the path variable in .cshrc but it is readonly to root and group is deamon. I also tried changing the symbolic link from /usr/java to /usr/jre1.6.0 but it is still looking at default version of java1.2.2.
I need help as I don't know much about Solaris to upgrade this java. Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    solaris_newbee

After installing, you need to update the '/usr/java' sym link to point to your new root installation. For example, I installed jdk1_5_16 at /usr/jdk/jdk1.5.0_16/ and then added this symlink:
    ln -s /usr/jdk/jdk1.5.0_16/ /usr/java
You may need to remove the symlink that is already there before it will allow you to successfully create the new one.
There are several other dependent symlinks in /usr/bin that use /usr/java, but you only have to update /usr/java.
    From one noob to another.

  • Web Application Shows Pop up message after Upgrading to Java 7 Update 11

    Hello,
We have developed a Java based Enterprise Web Application and currently using in Production environment. With the recent Java Security vulnerability issue, the client machines (desktops) were upgraded to Java 7 update 11 (Java plugin for Web browser). After the upgrade, users are having issues in accessing the application. User gets a Security Warning popup - "Do you want to run this application? An Application from the location below is requesting permission to run Location: xyz.... ". Even if they check the "Do not show this again for this app" checkbox, it still shows the Security Warning popup for every screen clicked by the user. The Application has "Trusted Certificate" but using a 3rd party jar which has an unsigned applet. The popup goes away if we change security level to Medium. We don't want to reduce the security level from 'High' to 'Medium' because of the Security issues and users may access other websites.
Is there a way to resolve the unsigned applet issue without compromising the security?
    Thanks
    Padmanaban

With Java 7u11 Oracle increased the default security level to help reduce the of recently discovered exploits getting past the security sandbox.
That said, I seem to recall from a few years ago that any untrusted component delivered to the client might cause the entire application to be treated as untrusted (as it should), and this may be the case here.
Although license issues may prevent you from doing this, I have found that unpacking and then repacking-and-resigning (with your own key) all 3rd party JARs can get around this, but only you can decide whether this is (a) legal and (b) advisable in the first place.

  • ASDM issues after upgrade to JAVA 8 on Macbook

Hi all, I have a MacBook running 10.10.2, and just upgraded to Java 8 build 40. Wouldn't you know ASDM has now started to "freeze" after I login to the appliance and ASDM is trying to parse the configuration. This has happened when I hit an ASA 5545 running 9.3.1 code (ASDM 7.3.1) but it does NOT happen when I hit an ASA5520 running older 9.1.5 code (ASDM 7.3.1). Odd. Anyone else seeing this? Sure enough when I drop Java back to 7 build 75, ASDM runs fine again when I login to those appliances.
Just as a try, I did upgrade ASDM to 7.3.3 and bumped up the heap size per the release notes, but that did nothing to resolve this issue. ASDM still freezes as its trying to parse the configuration (about 2-4 seconds after I login).
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Jeff

Looks like you are hitting the following bug

  • When will Java 7 users be notified to upgrade to Java 8?

Now that Java 8 is GA there will be a period of time that it will be available for download and installed on request but Java 7 will still be the primary Java version. Java 7 users will still receive updates to Java 7. Is there a scheduled date when Java 7 will be automatically upgraded to Java 8?

    you won't be, period.
Java 7 will be supported (depending on your support contract) until at least 2022 for some users.
By which time there will be a Java 9 or 10, maybe 11.
And tbh many people aren't going to want to deal with Java 8 at all. There's still people (a lot of people) writing code to Java 1.4, albeit mostly now being compiled on 1.5 or 6 compilers. And that's not going to change any time soon, especially as the language has pretty much changed to something that's utterly incompatible with existing code.

I can see in the log that stack xml you are using is not for the system to whom  you are upgrading. That is the reason system is rejecting stack file. Please check above extract of logs.
I would suggest you to please generate stack xml file for this system from MOPZ after correctly configuring SMSY and use it. Then your problem will be resolved.
    Thanks

Read the papers etc on the Business Rule Framework plus.
Especially take a look at the online training. But be careful with papers for NW 701. This is an old version and you may find stuff in there that is not relevant for you as you are on a much higher release.
There is also a paper that explains how BRFplus can be used in combination with SAP Business Workflow.
Why can't you get the BRFplus book? On the SAP Press page there is also an online version´

  • Upgrade only Java stack to Ehp1  (SAPehpi)

    Hi Gurus,
We are currently on PI 7.1,   and is considering to upgrade to Ehp1 (primarily for IDoc packaging feature)
and since the IDoc packaging feature is delivered thru a Sender IDoc adapter, which means this seats on the Adapter Engine already (Java stack)
I saw the document for SAPehpi (Upgrading to Ehp1 for a PI 7.1 system) and if i understand it correctly there are two options,
one  ABAP + JAVA upgrade    and the other is  JAVA only upgrade.
So does that mean I can upgrade my Adapter Engine (AAE) to Ehp1 using the JAVA only upgrade option?
My apologies in advance as i have no experience yet in upgrading 7.1 systems
    Thanks

    > So with that, if we stay on 7.1, then we don't have an option for IDoc packaging (IDoc package inbound to PI will be split into individual IDocs, then will have to use an integration process Collect to re-package it as 1) ?
Even when you apply EhP1, you can use IDoc packaging only, if your sender system is also on SAP BASIS 7.1 EhP1 or SAP BASIS 7.0 Ehp1.
So you should confirm this first.

  • Upgrading Linux java 1.4.2 AMD 64 bit edition with Daylight Saving Time

I am running 64 bit version of Java 1.4.2 It is the linux blackdown version because at the time Sun did not support a 64 bit version. Now I would like to upgrade java to fix the possible problems with the Daylight Savings Time change.
I have tried the tzupdater tool released by Sun but it did not work on my 64 bit machine, stating it could not find any tzone data to update.
Next I looked into updating the JRE itself but it appears that Sun still does not offer a AMD 64 bit version for 1.4.2 linux. They only seem to have support for 64 bit in Java 5 and 6.
Any ideas as to my best migration path? Should I consider taking the plunge and upgrading straight to Java 6 - although this will require updating Tomcat also and possibly breaking many of the 3rd party jar files we have in use.

My OS configuration is identical to your (save for the graphics card) and I do not experience these issues at all. I run pop-up blockers, firewalls, etc., etc., myself, and even mess around extensively with my browser settings (for debugging my own development), and have only EVER experienced an apparent lock-up under one condition:
If an applet is signed, and pops up and dialog, OR if there is any other condition under which the PLUGIN displays a dialog box, and during this time your browser is no longer in focus, when you reactive the browser window, the dialog box does not appear in the front. What I'm saying is that there might be an active MODAL DIALOG box, but which is not being seen. These dialog boxes do not appear on the taskbar under windows (just like the calendar doesn't) but you can active it by using the Alt+Tab function of Windows. When I've experienced support calls regarding this sort of problem, I get the user to check Alt+Tab to check if there is a hidden dialog box (which is most often the case, since we used signed applets).
I'm also a little confused by your reference to http://www.giga-byte.com - this site doesn't even load an applet when I open it.

  • Need to Upgrade IGS,JAVA Engine

    Hi folks,
how to check out IGS kernel level?
I need to do Kernel upgrade  for  IGS and Java Engine,
can u guys please send me the steps how to do it.
And what files i need to download from market place?
    right know i have sp-09
    Thanks in Advance
    regards
    ken

    hi Ken
    you can use the following:
Call the http://<IGS Host>:<IGS Port> where the IGS port number is the port defined in /usr/sap/SID/DVEBMGS22/igs/conf/isg.xml. When you open igs.xml, you would see a LISTENERHTTP port="XXXXX".
This is the port number to be used above.
    OR
you can also use GRAPHICS_IGS_ADMIN report in SE38 and select the corresponding RFC destination(IGS_RFC_DEST) to test the stuff/version.
For upgrade check SAP note: Note 454042 - IGS: Installing and Configuring the IGS
    Hope that helps.
    Let me know.
    Thanks
    Abhi

  • Is it possible to upgrade to Java System Application Server 8.2

    Hello,
I am using Java Studio Enterprise 8 with JSAS 8.1.
Can I upgrade to JSAS 8.2? How to do that?
Or does Java Studio Enterprise 8 not support JSAS 8.2?
    Thanks,
    Kuifje.

I guess you can try installing 8.2 and registering it in the IDE. If it works - cool, nothing lost otherwise. You can as well upgrade the IDE to NetBeans 5.5 Preview, it supports 8.2 as well as 9.0. And there will be another release soon.
