it is showing error invalid object for
describe and also iam not able to open
spatialindexadvisor as it is showing error
spatial only supports 8.16 or above
iam using 8.16 only.upto now it was working
then what might be the problem.reply immedtly.

It looks like you are not connecting to the database you think you are connecting to, or someone wiped out the spatial information.
Perhaps a look to see if the tables you are expecting to be there is in order.
You might also want to see if someone dropped the mdsys user.

URGENT: Converting Forms 4.5 application to 9i

Dear Friends,
There are a few things I want to know. I have a project to convert a Forms 4.5 application to Oracle 9i Forms.
Can you please guide me on the magnitude of change required. What is the major difference between 4.5 and 9i? Will i have to do entire recoding or the coding of 4.5 will be compatible with 9i?
Are there any other possibilities for converting 4.5 application to a 3-tier application?
Any help, guidance or leads will be very helpful, as it is very urgent.

A few points to answer your questions.
Yes You can WEB deploy Forms 6i on WEB. And Forms 6i was the last version of Forms which supports Character Mode.
The most important thing to remember about Forms Character mode is it wont support mouse and since all your operations are using key board, this is the primary concern while migrating from character to GUI/WEB.
let me give you an example..
I have three items each having key next item triggers.
In Character I cannot directly navigate from item 1 to 3 since I have only keys. But If I use the same application with GUI then you must remember that using a mouse to navigate from item 1 to item3 and the in between trigger ( of item 2 ) wont fire. This may not be a desirable behaviour ( since character apps are written with UNIX in mind ).And your problem starts here. You have to have a way of handling mouse navigation. I can give several examples. But 99% of the character apps that I have seen is written purely with character in mind and hence this will indeed be a major issue.
The second major issue is plcaements of your fields and appearance. You have to add Visual Atributes and Property classes. And let me assure you doing all this manually is a big pain and it will cost you a lot in terms of time and money.
Oracle does provide a upgrade utility , but this does nothing much than giving you a GUI Form with out taking care of the functionality.
So it is a hard bargain. There are corporations which have automated tools to do this. If you ensure that you interacvt with them properly you can get a good application in GUI/WEB. It will save you time but will cost you money.
So choose yourself .
V2 style triggers are no more supported. This basically contains many outdated builtins. So it is more or less a recoding effort if you have V2.
And with regard to 9i , Apart from that it wont support character and C/S there are no other issues. There is no reason why you cant use your 6i form with 9i.

URGENT - Modifying Form Properties in APEX

Hi,
I am migrating 6i Forms to APEX and facing an issue with change of properties for Database Block Items.
My Issue is: - In form 6i Item associated with DB block is not a database item whereas after uploading the converted fmb xml to APEX it is displaying as DB Item. I am not able to modify this property.
Please help me as this problem is occuring with almost all the forms to be migrated.

What is then the source of the item? In APEX it could be a static value or the result of a query, a function, a pl/sql expression or anonymous block.
Is the item is displayed as '... (does not save state)' APEX will not get it from the database nor try to post it to the database.
I don't have converted Oracle Forms at hand so cannot expreriment with it. It is possible that you would have to remove the original (converted) item and create a new one with the correct sttings.

URGENT - Multi-form problem

Would be great if anyone could help me with this:
Say I have two forms A and B, A has a repeating timer
which, when fires, will GO_FORM to B and B's WHEN-WINDOW-
ACTIVATED should fire and do stuff. Problem is if
the focus is already on form B at the beginning,
form A's timer expires but form B's WHEN-WINDOW-
ACTIVATED trigger doesn't fire as it IS already the
active window of the two at the time of the timer
expiration. So the stuff in B's WHEN-WINDOW-ACTIVATED
won't execute when I want it to.
Any workaround? I need a solution to this urgently.

and what makes me wonder is that looks like the focus
did temporarily switch to form A in the background,
confirmed by a check of the :SYSTEM.CURRENT_FORM and
CURSOR_ITEM etc in the WHEN-TIMER-EXPIRED trigger. But
still, if I GO_FORM back to form B, form B's WHEN-WINDOW-
ACTIVATED just won't fire.
Buggy WHEN-WINDOW-ACTIVATED trigger? Or misused?
Please, anyone? By the way, form B is launched from
a button in form A, just in case if that makes a diff.

URGENT: tabular form based on multiple tables

You can use iframes in your page: (an iframe is a frame in your page. In this frame you can load another page) that way you can create three pages. The first page is the master page. The second and third page which also have tabular forms, are loaded as iframes in the first page
The iframe is created as follows on your first page:
1.create a html region
2 create the tabular form on the second and third page
3.reference the pages by entereing the following code in the regions that will be used for displaying them:
<iframe name="Your_region_name" id="123" frameborder = "0" src=the page referenced width="580 px" height="250px" scrolling = "auto"></iframe>
for example:

URGENT ! Forms (jar file vs directory and classes)

Hi,
Our java developper has made an applet that we have to integrate with Forms.
I said that I need a jar file that I will put in the forms90/java directory.
The java developper want's to deploy instead of a jar file the whole directory and sub directory and all classes under the forms90/java.
My question is, are both deployement giving the same result in term of performance on the client side when downloading the classes or the jar file.
I always tought that jar file was better in performance.
What is the best way to deploy our applet?

If you choose jar file client JVM will probably cache your jar. This will increase speed of application loading.
Another benefit is that when you use jar file there is lazy/on demand loading option available (in my experience on demand loading doesn't work out of the box - jar file and all referenced jar files must be indexed). In other words: users that don't use forms that use your applet will not download that jar file (I have used this for FormsGraph example and some custom java application) and they don't have to download all of the jars your jar file references.

Urgent! form with webutil works with IAS but not with the 9iDS

I'm configuring a standalone PC on which i can run forms as if they were running with an IAS. Now we have a form which uses webutil. This form runs fine in our IAS-environment, but fails on the standalone PC.
On the standalone machine I'm using 9ids (9.0.2) to run this form. When the form is started I'm getting an error: FRM-40734 Internal error PL/SQL error occurred. This is caused by calls to the webutil-routines client_win_api_environment.get_windows_username and client_win_api_environment.get_computer_name
(When I comment out these calls, the form doesn't return an error)

I've tried your suggestion and the newly created form works on both environments (the standalone PC with the iDS and the "normal" evironment with an IAS). Then I added another button to this newly created form with the code "message(client_win_api_environment.Get_Windows_username);"
This also works in the new form. Then I added some debugging code to the webutil.pll and discovered that when I use the above code in the new form everything is ok, but when I use the call client_win_api_environment.Get_Windows_username the following exception is raised in the gew_windows_username-procedure: CLIENT_WIN_API.NOT_AVAILABLE
I've compared the newly created form with the original from and can't discover major differences between the two forms. Do you have another idea where to look?
I noticed I forgot to mention both forms are created with oracle designer.

Urgent - XML Form Builder - lnode

Hi,
Strange behaviour, i created a new XML Form Project and have defined a schema with some nodes (day, month, year, lead, body, link under root node), for data schema.
I build the Edit form and run it, everything works fine until push save button, when i do this, i get an error message saying that "..star-tag link different from end-tag root...".
I made some changes until i find that by simple removing the node link from data schema, everythings works fine, if put it again, gives the same error message.
Is there any limitation of using a node link, under root node of data schema? Any one tried?

Hi Darin,
Changing the node name link to another think, was my first thought, but there are 2 issues:
- What's the reason why a node named link doesn't work?(Looks like a "bug")
- I have upgraded the portal from SR1 SP09 to SP11, and in SP09 i have already created some items with XML Form with this structure, and because of the upgrade, i have already to change all the XML Forms, because listShow and listEdit doesn't work anymore, and now, for some strange reason i can't see my old news, because doesn't accept de node named link and i can't rename the node named link, because this means that i have to re-save all old news items.
Other think is, all XML Forms, incluind the standards ones, HTML editor are not working, clicking on any option available(Bold, Italic, ...), gives a message saying "[Object required]".
If you get another thought on this, please tell me.

I have a smartform with main window .Inthis main window i declared one table and it's working fine .i need to add more functionality to smartform i created another table in main window were i declared earlier that place .it's goes to short dump and stops at form functionmodule . it's possible to create similar type of table in main and how is it possle . if another dynamic data collection possble in smartform. help me out .

Hi Suresh,
When you create a new table then check for the entries in 'DATA' tab. There you can see that option for internal table is marked. Uncheck it or else give any internal table there.

It is compiling and working
When we do changes in the colomn - query table name or anything.
it won't impact the changes in the form.

In a form,
we are going to define another table colomn, which are used already in different name table colomn.
After we do the changes in the form - as new table colomn name instead of the old table colomn name.
we used to compile, after do compilation.
we able to get the the new table name and the colomn value
But still it is existing the old table colomn name in the lov list.
it did not change yet, so that i am asking in apps forms, have to do anything more.
so that i request one by one step flow.
Hope i have to convert it (form binary to text), then
have to convert it again from text to binary.
Then we do changes and compile it once, we able to get the changes.
I want to know that is it any version conflict or any other reason.
