URGENT: iphone 4 hang, can't power down, can't receive calls, can't do anything

I've been using my iphone 4 for more since I got it when it came out 1.5 yrs ago with hardly any problems.
I updated to OS5 few weeks back and was totally Ok until today, I started my gmail, and the phone froze and the swirling symbol is going next to my full WiFi Access and ATT 2 bars signal strength.
It's been more than 30 mnts, and can't receive calls, can't power it down, and nothing I pressed or did seems to affect the device.
What do I do?

Well, first, you can't revert back to OS 4.x, and second, a search of the forum will quickly show you that this could happen with 4.x, 3.x, 2.x and ever the original iPhone Classic.
And don't think of the iPhone as a phone; it's a very powerful pocket sized computer that can also make phone calls. And it can suffer all of the things that happen to any computer, like the Windows Blue Screen of Death and the Mac OS X kernel panic (which is what happened). It happens when memory gets full (RAM, not storage) or when one app steps on the memory of another. You can minimize the chance of it happening by turning the phone off occasionally, which shuts down all of the apps.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features(Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (If this won't uninstall press on)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
and paste into:
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

You must have a SIM card installed ( if applicable ) and have your iPhone activated to make calls or text mobile phones.

IPhone 3g - I have to power down to change screens. The button is not working. What do I do?

The button on my IPhone 3G is not working to change screens. I have to power down every time I want to change screens say from phone to the facebook app. I've tried cleaning out the connection with an air blower. Try resetting the SMC.

Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer
To reset the SMC on newer Mac portables with a battery you cannot remove
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.

I'm not sure what the problem is but it just started happening a couple of days ago. Anyone know why I can't play anything from my iPhone on iTunes?

While we can have multiple authorizations, under version 7.0.1 we can't play songs or videos from one account when the other is logged in. In prior versions of iTunes it didn't matter. Plus we can't seem to play songs or videos from more than one account on our iPods, Nano, or Shuffle
We have two accounts, one for US purchases and one for French purchases. But I can also see unmarried couples with one computer having separate accounts and so on. So this is a big issue that should not have occured. It doesn't make sense to have one "household" account for all purchases vs. individual accounts with shared access from one computer.
I'd really like to see a resolution to this issue.

Yes, I have near-perfect hearing too (for scope, squeaky brakes hurt my ears) I come from many conversations on many phones and types and first off, CDMA technology is great for coverage, terrible for voice quality. HD Voice in Europe made for some of the best phone conversations I've ever had.
Back on track, feedback is most noticable (similar to the landline phone) when using the iPhone without a headset, but for me it's not an absolute criticality mainly because I use VoIP apps alot, so maybe it has desensitized me some over the past year.
But whenever I'm on a call, and the other person has me on speakerphone, I have alot of trouble talking because of the feedback loop caused. So the less of my voice I hear the better I can talk.
Have you tried a bluetooth headset yet?

It sounds like a hardware or AT&T issue. Contact AT&T.

IPhone continuity - silent switch no effect on iPad when receiving calls

Hi Apple,
I love continuity, especially for calls.
would be great to transfer the status of the silent switch on iphone to ipad/mac -> when iphone is on silent it also mutes ipad/mac, so when receiving calls the ipad/mac doesn't ring!
Or at least give the user to have an option in settings.

IPhone 5 hanged and had shut down!

Yesterday my iPhone 5 had suddenly hanged and then had shut down for over 10 minutes. I tried to restart it but none of the buttons worked. It restarted after 15/20 minutes. My battery was 87 % and only one app was running when this occured. Can someone please help?

same problems here! even at 10 or 20% it shut down and after 20 minutes or so you can restart with both buttons. had it repeatedly even with clean install.

Unable to open application after system hang-up and power down

Help!! System hung up while working on CS2 photoshop file, I had to power off. Upon restart my dock had changed and deleted some icons..not a problem. When I tried to open Photoshop again, initial screen came up, tool palette blinked and it went right back off. All other programs are fine. After several tries I finally trashed Photoshop and reloaded it. Same problem! Adobe support had me create new user account and try to open...that worked fine. They said something is wrong in user account and to call Apple. Is this something that can be fixed or is the solution to create a new admin account and delete the old one?

Urgent help... can't do anything with my iMac desktop

I am a first time user, so I will appolgize in ahead if this is an asked question in the past.
I use an iMac (intel-based) with Snow Leopard OS (10.6). Yesterday, I 'updated' my Apple/Mac Security Update' via the usual software update and a major issue happened afterward that trouble me. For some reason, I do not have the 'permission' to do anything on my desktop, i.e. move files/folders, renaming them, delete them, move/save files to desktop, etc. I checked online, the common answer is to remove 'com.apple.finder.plist' and/or 'com.apple.sidebarlists.plist' via home/library/preferences on my computer. I've done so and reboot/re-login my computer, but nothing has changed. I even tried to remove the 'com.apple.finder.plist' again, but the computer stated it's not possible. I can do anything else within the folders or anything else as long as it's not what's already established on the desktop right now.
I would sure appreciate any help or advice on solving this problem.

Disconnect all devices from the computer then do the following:
Boot up from your Snow Leopard Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
Select the language you wish to use, and then choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the "repair disk" button in the right hand section of the window.
Once this process has been completed restart your computer and repair permissions directly from Disk Utility.
If Disk Utility is unable to complete the repair, you will need to use a stronger 3rd party utility like DiskWarrior, Techtool PRO (not Deluxe) or Drive Genius.

Problem with my iphone 4s, i can't hear anything when making calls

I can only hear when i turn the speaker on, but as soon as the speaker is turned off, it went mute. the person on the other side of the line can hear me perfectly. it also works fine when i plug in the earphone. this is really annoying.
and the most annoying thing is that i bought this new iphone4s in Canada and brought it all the way back to China. if i was to return it , it would take a painfully long time. what do i do?

Please take a look at the article referenced below, the same as in my original reply. The receiver on the iPhone does not have anything to do with the speakers on the bottom of the phone nor your microphone.
Clear the receiver
The iPhone receiver won't work properly if it's blocked or dirty. Here's where the receiver is:
Follow these steps, testing after each:
Make sure nothing is blocking the receiver, such as a case or film.
If you have a new iPhone, remove the plastic film on the front and back of the device.
Check the receiver opening to see if it's blocked or dirty. If necessary, clean the receiver opening with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush.
While you're on a call, turn on speakerphone. If you still can't hear, then your network or reception could be the issue. Try calling again later or from a different location.
Restart and update
Restart your iPhone and test again.
If there's still no sound or poor sound quality, update to the latest version of iOS.
Get more help
If you've tried these steps and there's still no sound or poor sound quality from your iPhone, contact Apple Support.
Learn what to do if other people can't hear you on a call.
If you can't hear a person on a call or voicemail or if the sound quality is poor on iPhone
