URGENT : Migrate ODI or Change / Recreate Repositories?

Hi there;
I'm using ODI 10.1.3.6.0 and Oracle 10g db server (which keeps both master and work repositories) installed on the same machine.
For some reason, our db guys are decided to move Oracle db to another machine but we don't want to migrate ODI. Will it cause a performance issue?
Should we also migrate ODI to the new machine
or
change/recreate Master & Work repositories?
Which one would you suggest?
I strongly prefer the second way but don't know how?
Thanks
Cenk

>
I believe when you are saying the We don't want to migrate ODI . you mean ODI server installation.
>
exactly
>
If only repositories are moved then you should be fine.
>
yes, only the repos are going to be moved
>
In order to change the master and work rep pointing to new machine. Change your snsp_login XML to pointing to new Master Rep user/pass and then go edit the work repository user id and pass to the new work rep location, in topology.
** make sure you backup your old rep **
>
So the process will be
1) Backup and Transfer Master and Work repository schemas from old db to new one
2) Export Master and Work Repos in ODI (do i have to import them after step 3?)
3) Change snps_login_work.xml AND snps_login_security.xml
is that correct?

  • ODI 11g : How to migrate ODI objects ?

    Hello,
We need to migrate our ODI 11g objects (Packages,Interfaces, DataServers, DataStores and so on) from UAT to PROD environment. For that, we have the following option in our mind.
    Option
    - create ODI Master and Work repositories on PROD environment;
    - import the Master & work repositories from UAT into the new one (ODI Studio);
    - configure the Phisical Schemas according to the database connection details for the production environment;
What is the best way for to do that? What elements should be considered in this kind of migration? Some special recommendations?
    Any input will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Iulia

If you are migrating to a production environment I would suggest that you create your work repository as an execution only repository. This will limit your access to the Operator interface and you will only have to import your compiled scenarios rather than all of the other work repository specific objects i.e. projects, models, interfaces etc. You will still have to create a master repository which you can do as you have already detailed i.e. create a master repository schema and then import the repository you exported from UAT and update the physical topology settings to match your new environment settings.
You can even generate an ODI package to automate the export and import of scenarios between environments.

  • Migrate ODI 10 to ODI 11

    Hello everybody,
My client has System 9: Shared services, Essbase, Planning, BI+, Strategic finance and ODI 10.1.3.4.2
and wants to 'upgrade' to EPM 11.1.2. and ODI 11.
I know that an 'upgrade' cannot be done because EPM 11.1.2 has suffered a lot of changes at architecture level.
I would like to know what tools I could use to make my life easier in the process of migrating ODI. Is there some kind of documentation? Some other tool apart from the classicla export to xml and import into the new system from xml?
Any help will be very appreciate!
    Thank you,
    Daniela

  • Migrating ODI Project

    Hi Experts,
I need your expert guidance to migrate ODI Project from Dev to Test instance.
I have no knowledge about migration ODI.
Could you please enlist what are the component which are need to migrated.
What backup statery should be followed and any precaution to be taken.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Cheers
    Andy

I would say there are 2 different ways.
The first is when your Test environment (even if it is already created) is empty, then you just have to recover Dumps of Dev's Repositories...
For the second (which should be your case) you can follow this 3 steps which works for me:
    - Duplicate your topology in your Test environment. That's the thing I always do manually, but I think that you should be able to export/import it too.
    - Export your models (or model's Folder) which are used in your project and then import it in Synonym mode.
    - Export your project and then Import it in Synonym mode.
Ok so now I will just explain you the synonym mode:
It can be Update, Insert or Update_Insert.
Your choice will depend on existence of what you want to import, if it already exist then Update mode, if not Insert mode.
If only part of it already exist choose the Update_Insert mode.
My main advice is to avoid using the Duplicate mode for linked objects (Models - Projects,...)...
But in a Dev to Test context you could just need to execute what you have done in Development environment in your Test one, and then a Topology update and a scenario export could be the solution.
If in Test you see an error you correct it in Dev and then re export a regenerated scenario, this is the easier way but all depend your needs.

    Brice

  • Migrating ODI objects from one environment to another

    Hi,
This is for the first time that i am trying to migrate odi objects from one environment to another. I am facing issue and requesting help.
The odi installation is the part of ASCP module of JDEdwards where some standard objects (interfaces/packages) are already created. I have developed some custom interfaces and want to migrate the same to QA environment.
I exported the specific folder (including children) to an xml file and then trying to import the same in the QA environment.
When i choose "Synonym Insert_Update" option to import is prompts error :
You are importing an object from another repository with same identifier. This is forbidden
This is completely new folder which do not exist on target. If I import using Duplication option, it successfully import and assigns new internal ID to object (which is as expected). But how will I update the newly created object in future ?
What should be followed to migrate objects ?

recreate your OA repository with repository id different from your DEV repository.
Then you should not get this problem.

  • Problems while migrating ODI code from 1 env to other

    Hi,
I had some ODI code in Env1 i moved it to Env2 and did some new development(created new models, packages etc) over there and then tried to migrate it into Env3.What i found that the exports for new development done at Env2 got imported easily in Env3 however, the exports of the code(of Env1) taken from Env2 are giving error ODI-10018: The repository {0} is not coherent between the current repository and the import file.
This has put me in lot of trouble is there any way to resolve this.

Well. This problem is not new and not unusual.
What are the repository IDs for Env 1, Env 2 and Env 3 ?
I suspect that Env 1 ID and Env 3 ID are same.
There is an option in ODI 11g to renumber the repository IDs. In Topology Manager -> Repositories and then select and right click.
You can select Env 2 and select an unused repository number and renumber your repository. Then the objects wilil be easily imported into Env 3.

  • Migrate  ODI 10.1.3.5 to the last version

    Hi,
I would like to migrate my ODI 10G (10.1.3.5) to the last version of ODI 11g (11.1.1.7 I think).
Do you know if it is possible and if an guide exist?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Yes. This is possible. You will have to use Upgrade Assistant utility that comes with ODI 11g.  You can clone your ODI 10g repositories & provide info. of them by running the utility.
This upgrades your ODI 10g repositories to 11g & then you can connect to them after installing ODI 11g.
You can find detailed process here:
Upgrading Your Oracle Data Integrator Environment - 11g Release 1 (11.1.1)
    Thanks,
    Santy.

  • ODI password change

    Hi,
Users need to change password in ODI.Here users have access only to Metadata Navigator.
I have written a shell script and embedded it in a scenario. So user will be executing this through a scenario.Users will be prompted for user name password as input variable parameters which will be captured by the script, encrypted by agent encode within the script and update the snp_user table.
The issue am facing here is the script when run from a command prompt it works successfully,it also works when executed from within an ODI package, but it doesn't work when i execute it through Metadata Navigator.I suspect its because of agent being called twice,as metadata navigator also uses agent and the script that am calling from within also uses agent for encrytion of password.
Can anyone help me on this.Is there any java class file that i can call from the script to encrypt password other than the agent oracle.odi.Agent

    Hi user649227,
I'm also planning to call a shell script in our system. Currently we have a Perl Script that is scheduled to run using crontab. The problem is we don't have a logging facility when errors occurs. Just wondering how did you call the shell script you created? Is it possible to log the script's event output?
    I'll appreciate anyone's reply...
    Thanks,
    Randy

  • Upgrade and plug ins migration ? speed changes and transitions to motion 3

I have the FCS2 upgrade on its way soon i hope..
will my natress plug ins and others migrate when i go from FCS1 to 2?
I am mid project - have done all my captures but havent got into the nitty gritty of the edit yet - you reckon its a bit risky to upgrade?
I am super keen to get the ability to easily do ramps (in Motion 3 or in FC 6) and 3d logo fly arounds. Looking fwd to being able to throw transitions and speed changes into Motion 3 - i hear that it can deal with that now - is this true?

    Thanks - thats all good

  • URGENT: Migrating from SQL to Oracle results in very poor performance!

*** IMPORTANT, NEED YOUR HELP ***
Dear, I have a banking business solution from Windows/SQL Server 2000 to Sun Solaris/ORACLE 10g migrated. In the test environment everything was working fine. On the production system we have very poor DB performance. About 100 times slower than SQL Server 2000!
    Environment at Customer Server Side:
Hardware: SUN Fire 4 CPU's, OS: Solaris 5.8, DB Oracle 8 and 10
    Data Storage: Em2
DB access thru OCCI [Environment:OBJECT, Connection Pool, Create Connection]
Depending from older applications it's necessary to run ORACLE 8 as well on the same Server. Since we have running the new solution, which is using ORACLE 10, the listener for ORACLE 8 is frequently gone (or by someone killed?). The performance of the whole ORACLE 10 Environment is very poor. As a result of my analyse I figured out that the process to create a connection to the connection pool takes up to 14 seconds. Now I am wondering if it a problem to run different ORACLE versions on the same Server? The Customer has installed/created the new ORACLE 10 DB with the same user account (oracle) as the older version. To run the new solution we have to change the ORACLE environment settings manually. All hints/suggestions to solve this problem are welcome. Thanks in advance.
    Anton

On the production system we have very poor DB performanceHave you identified the cause of the poor performance is not the queries and their plans being generated by the database?
Do you know if some of the queries appear to take more time than what it used to be on old system? Did you analyze such queries to see what might be the problem?
Are you running RBO or CBO?
if stats are generated, how are they generated and how often?
Did you see what autotrace and tkprof has to tell you about problem queries (if in fact such queries have been identified)?

  • Urgent!Fiscal Year Changes !

    Hi All
Does anyone has implemented the changes for the Fiscal Year from Calendar Year Jan-Dec 2011 to Apr 2011 - Mar 2011
So in my case now I need to show the reports for 2011 as Jan 2011 - Mar 2012.
    for 2012, Apr 2012- Mar 2013.
Any ideas are highly appreciable. very urgent.
so how my month and year report retrival changes... to be done?
    what are the precautions?
    Thanks for your suggestions.

    Hi,
I do not know about the fiscal year variant way as it means you would need to customize and I am not sure if its possible to do what you want but since I am not an expert on that matter please rely on other posters.
    Regarding the ABAP way:
    1) create a variable on 0FISCYEAR that the user needs to fill, for example ZVAR_FISCYEAR. Use it in query but not on relevant keyfigures. It needs to pop up on selection screen but should restrict some dummy.
    2) create a variable on 0CALMONTH that is processed by user exit, for example ZVAR_CALMONTH. Make sure it is an interval
    3) go to the user exit relevant for bex reporting (please do investigate yourself also as this is covered in lots of topics)
    4) create logic that whenever user fills in 2011 in ZVAR_FISCYEAR the ZVAR_CALMONTH variable is filled as needed
    Small example:
      WHEN 'ZVAR_CALMONTH'.
        IF i_step = 2.
          LOOP AT i_t_var_range INTO loc_var_range
            WHERE vnam = 'ZVAR_FISCYEAR'.
            CLEAR l_s_range.
            l_s_range-low(4)   = loc_var_range-low(4).
    IF l_s_range-low(4) = '2011'.
            l_s_range-low+4(2)  = '01'.
            l_s_range-high(4) = '2012'.
            l_s_range-low+4(2)  = '05'.
    ELSEIF
    l_s_range-low(4) = '2012'.
            l_s_range-low+4(2)  = '04'.
            l_s_range-high(4) = '2013'.
            l_s_range-low+4(2)  = '03'.
    ENDIF.
            l_s_range-sign     = 'I'.
            l_s_range-opt      = 'BT'.
            APPEND l_s_range TO e_t_range.
            EXIT.
          ENDLOOP.
        ENDIF.
    5) restrict the relevant keyfigures in your query on 0CALMONTH with as range ZVAR_CALMONTH
Please not I am not an diehard abapper nor do i have access to a system to test now so please share thoughts if the above is incorrect, usually i need one or two fixes before it works
hope it at least gave you the right direction.
    C.

  • Migrating VM's between two repositories

I'm working with a customer that has OVM 3.1.1 running on 2 servers. They originally provisioned a repository of 2T but it turns out that was oversized for their environment. I have helped them create an 800GB repo and now wish to migrate all the VM's from the big one to the smaller one. There are also physical disks assigned to the VM's in question.
I assume the best way to do this would be to use a clone customizer and "move" the vm from one repo to the other- unchecking the physical disks so they don't get cloned as well. One problem I did run into was that on the cloned VM, the disks that were assigned are out of order (the first two are fine, but the swap virtual disk somehow got stuffed into a different slot number way down the list in the middle of the other physical disks. Thankfully I used ext3 LABELs to mount everything including swap, so that didn't affect things. We're also using ASM and I assume it puts some sort of signature on the disk once the ASM disk group is created so that if the disks show up out of order it won't matter. But it very well could have mattered- this seems like a big big problem and a bug in OVM Manager.
Either way- is there a better/easier way to move VM's between repos?

You can clone virtual disks to different repos.
Physical attachments shouldn't be an issue. Just detach them from your VM guests before you clone the VM. Attach them in the proper order. You're not changing VM servers. So..... ASM disks shouldn't matter as asmlib (if you're using asmlib and you should be) does mark the ASM disks with the proper headers/names. It does not matter what order they appear. The asmlib will find the path to the disk. UNLESS, you have restricted ASMlib to only search for certain disk paths. Most of the time this is necessary unless you have a lot of disks attached.
I never use more than one virtual system disk per host. I've never found a reason to do such. Its all the same repo. Same IO path/ IO paths. Why would you use different disks for swap? You just create a swap partition for your hosts on the same system disk...

SQL Server databases have three types of files:
    Primary data files
The primary data file is the starting point of the database and points to the other files in the database. Every database has one primary data file. The recommended file name extension for primary data files is .mdf.
    Secondary data files
Secondary data files make up all the data files, other than the primary data file. Some databases may not have any secondary data files, while others have several secondary data files. The recommended file name extension for secondary data files is .ndf.
    Log files
Log files hold all the log information that is used to recover the database. There must be at least one log file for each database, although there can be more than one. The recommended file name extension for log files is .ldf.
