Urgent - Oracle Applications Performance - Please Help me!

Hi folks!
I´m having a lot of performance troubles in Oracle applications, and the dba and the network analyst can´t help me. I´m having this trouble since 2 weeks, and nobody can explain why. The system is too slow and if i try a simple select in database it takes a lot of time, i think (i think ok?) there are som database troubles...

I am using Oracle9i with oracle pool in my JSP for database handling.
I am using OracleConnectionCacheImpl and OracleConnectionCacheImpl.DYNAMIC_SCHEME.
I am also setting max and min limit for connections
ocacheimpl.setMinLimit (5);
ocacheimpl.setMaxLimit (10);
I have used a startup servlet that loads on tomcat startup
creating pool ( that is, OracleConnectionCacheImpl)
This OracleConnectionCacheImpl in then I am putting as
application wide object and getting access to it in all my JSPs
Initially it creates 5 connections. But after some time (2 hrs or
so) all the connections are getting killed. (I can see this
from the "Sessions" tab of the enterprise manager)
Now if I request my JSP then I get error. But after around 30mins
again 5 connections are created automatically( I hope thats what
DYNAMIC_SCHEME would do) and then my JSp works.
My question is why all connections are getting killed and why it
takes so much time to reset the connections again!
Is Oracle's DYNAMIC_SCHEME has got some bug? or I have to do
some settings in my oracle server. Please help

Installing the OS X Lion Update 10.7.3 (Client Combo) will reinstall the App Store for you.
Restart your Mac after the combo is installed then try purchasing Aperture.

you have to be aware that oracle application performance depends on many points, including: oracle database(of course), network, OS(I/O,memory), and last but not least client SQL. while SQL problem may stand up to 50-70% of all.
performance tunning is a open-ended process, it won't turn out to be satisfactory overnight.

3)Opened Repository Administration Utility
Log in as 'repos_manager/repos_manager@orcltest'
Installed Repository.
4) Opened Oracle 9i Designer. I am able to connect
as 'repos_manager/repos_manager@orcltest'
But I am not able to logon as any other user in same database/ any other user in different database. Why?

Had the same problem and the same message -- was suddenly unable to access icloud apps on my pc, also using Windows 7 and Internet Explorer. After several days of pulling my hair out, decided to try a different browser and was able to get in by using Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. Hope this helps.

Oracle Application Performance Tuning

Hello all,
Please forgive me if I am asking this in the wrong section.
I am a s/w engineer with 2 years of exp. I have been working as a performance tuning resource for Oracle EBS in my company. The work mostly involved SQL tuning and dealing with indexes etc. In this time I took up interest in DBA stuff and I completed my OCA in Oracle 10g. Now my comany is giving me an oppurtunity to move into an Application DBA team and I am totally confused about it.
Becoming an Apps DBA will mean that the effort I put into the certification in 10g will be of no use. There are other papers for Apps DBA certification. Should I stay put in performance tuning & wait for a Core DBA chance or shall I accept the Apps DBA oppurtunity.
Also, does my exp. in SQL performace tuning hold any value as such with out an exposure to DBA activities?
Kindly guide me in this regards as I am very confused at this juncture.

People notice you are capable of understanding and performance tuning SQL. And you must have some knowledge of Oracle EBS. And in fact you also have a DBA OCA.
So there is a 98% + chance you can be made into a good Oracle Apps DBA (and core DBA). If I was in their position I'd want you on my team too; this is the way we used to bring on DBA's in the old days before certification and it has a lot of merit still. Okay you can only do limited tasks at first ... but the number of taks you can do will increase dramatically over a number of months.
I would imagine the Oracle Apps DBA will be delighted to have someone on board who can performance tune SQL which sometimes can sometimes seem more like an art than a science. The patching etc can be taught in small doses. If they are a good team they wont try to give you everything at once, they'll get you to learn one procedure at a time.
And remember, if in doubt ask; and if you dont understand ask again. And be safe rather than sorry on actions that could be critial.
If your worried about liinux: Linux Recipes For Oracle Dbas (Apress) might be a good book to read but could be expensive in India
Likewise: (Oracle Applications Dba Field Guide) may suit and even (Rman Recipes For Oracle Database 11 G: A Problem-solution Approach) may have some value if you need to get up to speed quickly in those areas.
These are not perfect but they sometimes consolidate the information neatly; however only buy if you feel they are cheap enough. You may well buy them and feel disappointed (These all happen to be by Apress who seem to have produced a number of good books ... they've also published some rubbish as well)
And go over the 2-day dba examples as well and linux install examples n OTN as well ... they are free compared to the books I mentioned.

VLC Downloads fine but doesn't open application. Please help

Can someone please help me with my downloading problem? Excuse me if I sound like a tard but I'm really keen on learning. I searched through previous posts but didn't quite find what I was looking for.
I download fine. Copy into applications. Everything looks good but it won't kick off. All I get is a flash of the application logo on the dock and then nothing, it disappears. I wanted to download (VLC vlc-0.8.6a.dmg) and Last.Fm (LastFMMac1.1.3.0.dmg) but no dice.
I have downloaded in the past just fine, but only minor things like Limewire and Quicksilver, they work okay. I'm confused any help would be greatly appreciated.

vlc-0.8.6a.dmg is for 10.3.9, so that's why it wont open on your OS, which shows your have Mac OS X 10.3.5
Either find the right one for your OS, or Upgrade to 10.3.9, hardly worth it, just to play the odd video in VLC, but they are your choices.
I did some hunting for more info for you.
Why doesn't VLC 0.8.6a work on 10.3, although you state it does?
"First of all, make sure that you got 10.3.9 installed. Any earlier release, particularly 10.3.5 and below, doesn't support current versions of VLC. Additionally, while QuickTime 6.5.2 is strictly required, QuickTime 7.x is strongly recommended for performance and usability reason"
So it doesn't look like there is an earlier version.
If you want to use it, you must upgrade to 10.3.9.

I have been trying to run my java code using XSQLRequest from inside the stored procedure for past couple of days and i have had a couple of queries which were answered successfully.Thanks for that.
But so far i have not been able to execute the code from inside the stored procedure which works fine if executed from commandline or thro a normal java application.
It is always some problem or other and since there is no one except for this forum I end up submitting my queries in here.
IS there any way i can get in touch with someone from ur side and may be figure out if i can do the way i 'm doing right now or i'm just wasting my time for nothing.I'm already done with the project schedule so i have to answer my PL.
I have loaded the oraclexsql.jar file and the corresponding parserv2.jar and oraclexmlsql.jar file in my database.
and i did load the XSQLConfig.xml file in the database file as well n which i'm using oracle:jdbc:thin:@10.0.0.70:1521:xdp as my <dburl>.
now when i try to call the stored procedure i get the following error:

XSQL-007: Cannot acquire a database connection to process page.
No suitable driver.
I did find that inorder to make the database connection from inside the stored procedure we have to use jdbc.oracle.kprb driver
and that thin and oci are not supported.
Does this mean i have to specify the same in my <dburl> for the config file.
I infact did try to use this but it wont work and i got the same error.
Can u please help me with this.

I tried your SQL on my tables T1 and T2. Indexes are on C1,C2,C3 and N1,N2,N3. The data in T1 and T2 are shown below with the explain plan (also called EP) listed. You really need to do an explain plan (free TOAD is easiest to do this in) and respond showing your EP results.
By simply changing the optimizer mode to RULE I was able to get it to use indexes on both T1 and T2.

Though the C2 index is getting used (your r.c2 = 'Y' part in the where clause) the main problem your having here is the JOIN column (C1 in both tables) is not getting used. So the join you have ...
where substr(r.c1,-2,2) = substr(d.c1,-2,2)
isn't using an index and you want it too. There are 2 solutions to correct this..
Solution #1
The first is to make a function-based index for data. Since your doing SUBSTR on C1 that C1 index does not contain that partial information so it will not use it. Below is the syntax to make a function based index for this partial data ...
CREATE INDEX I_NU_T1_C1_SUBSTR ON T1 (SUBSTR(C1,-2,2));
CREATE INDEX I_NU_T2_C1_SUBSTR ON T2 (SUBSTR(C1,-2,2));
or also this way if it's still not using the above indexes ...
CREATE INDEX I_NU_T1_C1_SUBSTR ON T1 (SUBSTR(C1,-2,2),C1);
CREATE INDEX I_NU_T2_C1_SUBSTR ON T2 (SUBSTR(C1,-2,2),C1);
Solution #2
The second solution is to make another column in both table and place this 2 digit information in it, and then index this new column. That way the join will look like ...
where r.c_new_column = d.c_new_column
and
r.c_new_column between '01' and '72'
also with this new column the BETWEEN clause at the end you will not need the substring as well. Also remember BETWEEN on character values is different than numbers.
Final Notes
I just tried creating the functional index and I can't get it to be used it for some reason (I might not have the right amount of data), but I really think that is your best option here. As long as it uses the functional index you won't have to change your code. You might want to try using INDEX() in the hint to get it to be used, but hopefully it will use it right away. Try all 4 types of optimizer modes (CHOOSE, RULE, ALL_ROWS, FIRST_ROWS) in your primary hints to see if it will use the new function-based index.
You really do need to get explain plan going. Even if you make these functional indexes you won't know if its going to be using them until you look at the EP results. You can do EP manually (the SQL of how to produce the results is in OTN, though I find free TOAD is by far the easiest) and you will still need to have run the utlxplan.sql script. Oracle I do think has some GUI tools, maybe in OEM, that have explain plan built in as well.

If you want to implement projects then I would look at. Oracle Financials, Oracle Projects and the Service modules in CRM. For example you may want to look at help desk and mobile engineering functionality. Oracle Projects will give you the ability to cost and bill for the projects.
If you need to look at resourcing, scheduling then suggest you look at Niku who do a service Relationship Management (SRM) package. I have seen details of this working with Oracle Apps at BT. See www.niku.com
