URL in Mail

There is a way to put live links into Mail messages, but it's rather long:
Edit > Link > Add > (type or paste link) > OK.
Is there a shortcut or even a way to put this on the Toolbar?
Thanks.

you can make a shortcut for this using system preferences->keyboard and mouse->keyboard shortcuts. when you are making the shortcut put
Add...
in the menu title field. also, I'm not sure if you know this but if you simply copy/paste a url address in a mail message it will be converted to a link when you send the message. you only need to use Edit > Link > Add >
when you want to have a different text (or image) over a link.

  • Stop Decoding or URLs in Mail

    Hi,
I'm trying to copy and paste an encrypted URL into a new email in Apple Mail on OSX 10.6.8.  This encrypted URL has values of %3d all the time, and when I pasted this URL into Mail, it gets decoded into an = sign.  Once this happens, the link does not work anymore.  This only happens in Apple Mail, when I use gmail's website, it works perfectly.
Is there some setting somewhere in Apple Mail that will stop this from happening?

No.  And of course nothing is ever going to be modified in 10.6.  You might want to post in the forums for 10.7 and 10.8 asking whether this has changed, so you will know whether updating your OS could help.

  • Not able to get the complete URL in mail content

    Hi All,
I want to give the below link in mail which is sent from workflow, so on click of it, the user will be able to open the particular opportunity directly.
    https://<sys_host>%3Fcrm-object-type%3DBT111_OPPT%26crm-object-action%3DB%26crm-object-keyname%3DGUID%26crm-object-value%3DXXXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXX here is GUID of the Opportunity of 32 character.
For this, I have created a attribute of type BAPITGB-LINE. When inserting this expression into the mail activity of the WF, I have chosen the data to be exported as "All lines as cont. text".
In this attribute, when I concatenate the values and the guid, I get only part of the link as below which is 133 characters.
    https://<sys_host>%3fcrm-object-type%3dbt111_oppt%26crm-object-action%3db%26crm-object-keyname%3dguid%26cr
When I try to append it in a internal table of type BAPITGB, I am getting the complete URL but with a space between every line in the internal table as below.
    https://<sys_host>%3Fcrm-object-type%3DBT111_OPPT[SPACE]%26crm-object-action%3DB[SPACE]
    %26crm-object-keyname%3DGUID[SPACE]%26crm-object-value%3D
    DFD60A8AD0E53DF1918F0050569F0324
Please let me know, how to avoid this space in append statements. Also, the concatenate is taking only 132 characters, after which it cuts the URL, leaving it incomplete.Kindly correct me if I was wrong somewhere.
    Thanks,
    Ramya

    Hi Sanjay,
As suggested, I have split the URL into 3 links in WF container having the initial values as below.
    Link1 -> <sys_host>.%3Fcrm-object-type%3DBT111_OPPT
    Link2 -> %26crm-object-action%3DB %26crm-object-keyname%3DGUID
    Link3 -> %26crm-object-value%3D
In the mail activity, I have given the link as: &LINK1&&LINK2&&LINK3&&GUID&
    &GUID&-> GUID of the opportunity.
When I tested this in log-> List with technical details-> mail, it had the correct value without space as below.
    https://<sys_host>.%3Fcrm-object
    -type%3DBT111_OPPT%26crm-object-action%3DB
    %26crm-object-keyname%3DGUID%26crm-object-value%3DDFD60A8AD0E53DF1918F00505
    69F0324
But in SOST, when I checked for the link it is having spaces as below:
    https://<sys_host>%20%3Fcrm-object-type%3DBT111_OPPT%20%26crm-object-action%3DB%26crm-object-keyname%3DGUID%20%26crm-object-value%3D%20DFD60A8AD0E53DF1918F0050569F0324
    Kindly advice.
    Thanks,

  • Get URL from Mail message to Safari

I want to be able to email myself at home from work with a URL in the body of the message. I want a Mail rule and Automator (or applescript if necessary) to take that URL from the message body and send it to Safari which will go to the URL. The URL can be either a web page or downloadable file.
    Quad G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   4.5GB RAM

Shoot! I wrote this huge reply and then quit Safari by accident. I'm too tired to type it all over again (I should install a keylogger).
Anyway, check out the screen shot of my workflow. the AppleScript section is where it xfers the URL from a text editor (BBEdit) to Safari. It's pretty dirty but it works.
    http://www.jameskocsis.com/urlworkflow.jpg
post antother reply if you need more data on this process.
    Good luck.

  • How to create link to a particular URL in mail

    Hi All,
I am trying to create link in mail body that should point to particular url,
    I tried below code:
    link("View Document","%Document_URL%")
    but its not working.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks,
    Saloni

    Hi
What I understand of your requirement is that you want to send an e mail to the supplier when a contract doc is moved to supplier draft phase. The content of the mail should contain Click Here: ContractDoc_URL statement wherein ContractDoc_URL is URL to contract document in supplier draft phase.
As rightly pointed out by Vikram there is already a mail template Version Shared With Supplier defined for it. There is a token %CONTRACTDOC_URL% which returns the contract link. You can duplicate and modify the content of the e mail as per your requirement. Follow the following steps after that
    1. go to Set Up->System Set Up-> Configuration-> Mail Configuration
    2. Search for mail type Contract Document Share With Supplier
    3.Select the modified mail template.
    4. GO to go to Set Up->Document Set Up-> Contract Document-> Contract Document Type
    5. Open the contract document type used
    6. In contract document notifications, set Version Shared with Supplier to Alerts and Notifications

  • Send URL via Mail (outlook)

    Hi all,
we're currently working with SAP Easy DMS (Document Management System) in which documents can be managed 'outside' of SAP R/3 in an explorer which looks a lot like the windows explorer. When clicking on a document with the right mouse button a context menu appears. Using this one can send the exact url of the document (which is stored on a content server) can be sent via mail. This works just fine when the document doesn't contain any blanks (spaces) in the name. But when it does contain blanks (for example test 1.doc) the hyperlink which is displayed in the mail doesn't work. The document should be displayed in the (web)browser. Normally when an URL contains blanks, they are replaced with '%20'. For displaying the document a BSP (service) is created and a function module is used for replacing the blanks with '%20'. Replacing the blanks in the function module looks good, but somewhere along the way these are deleted again. Is there a way to achieve this in a way that it works for all documents, with or without blanks.
I'm using the following statement in the function module
Z_EASYDMS_GETURL (implemented using a SAP Note):
REPLACE space WITH '%20' INTO docfile. And this just works fine. Doesn't the BSP service recognize the blanks ('%20') or what?
    Kind regards,
    Micky.

    Hi,
Did you try ESCAPE_URL (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_bw31/helpdata/en/fd/778c3a045c7b73e10000000a11405a/frameset.htm) yet?

  • Extract URL from Mail message

    Hello Applescript-Meisters,
    I have the following problem:
Every week we receive an email which contains a secure URL (https://) with always different username and password to download a ".tar" file.
Since I'm new to Applescript I tried to extract the paragraph of the email message with the line which contains the URL, but doesn't seem to work:
    tell application "Mail"
set theMessages to message 1 of mailbox "EXAMPLE" of account "AccountTest" whose subject begins with "Data request"
set theContent to content of theMessages
set someData to paragraphs of theContent
    repeat with someData in theContent
if someData begins with "https://" then
set theURL to paragraph of someData
    else
set theURL to paragraph 18 of theContent -- this works but this line can change weekly
    end if
    end repeat
    end tell
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    gilles

The most obvious problem is how you're trying to iterate through the paragraphs.
    You start off with:
set theContent to content of theMessages
which is fine - theContent now contains the text of the email.
You then extract the paragraphs of that text:
set someData to paragraphs of theContent
But you then reset 'someData' to be the iterator in a loop:
    repeat with someData in theContent
Additionally, you're iterating through theContent, which is a single block of text.
I think what you mean to do is iterate through the paragraphs of theContent, like:
repeat with someData in (get paragraphs of theContent)
Once you have this, you know someData is the paragraph you're currently looking at so you can:
    set theURL to someData
Finally, you do not want an 'else ... set theURL' statement because that will reset theURL every time you find a line that doesn't begin with "https://" (e.g. if paragraph 10 starts with https:// you set theURL to that paragraph, but as soon as you move onto line 11 you reset theURL because the paragraph doesn't begin with https://
To address this you should just iterate through the paragraphs and only set theURL to paragraph 18 if you didn't find any matching lines.
    Putting it all together:
set theURL to "" -- default value for theURL
    theContent to content of theMessage
repeat with someData in (get paragraphs of theContent)
if someData begins with "http://" then
      set theURL to someData
     end if
    end repeat
    if theURL = "" then
     try
set theURL to paragraph 18 of theContent
     end try
    end if
Note that I've included the 'paragraph 18' line in a try block. That's so that the script doesn't fail if there are less than 18 paragraphs in the message (you can't get paragraph 18 of a 17-paragraph document).

  • URL in Mail not opening

    Hi All,
We have a workflow that sends notification mails in which portal URL is included. We used Container Operation to pass the URL link into a workflow container element and giving that as below in mail body:
    <A HREF="&URL&">Link</A>
When we are clicking on that Link from mail, Error Report is coming with message: 404   Not Found.
The problem is the last characters of the URL are being converted as capitals. Can somebody tell me why it is happenng so? Please suggest.

    Hello Srinivas !
Are you using CFX_HYPERLINK as ABAP data dictionary data type ?
Let's assume that the created workflow and task container name is URL.
Then coding should be as follows :
            <A HREF="HTTP://&URL&">
            &URL&
            </A>
Please check whether the import and export parameters checked at containers and bindings.

  • Portal URL in mail template

    Hello,
We are using SAP Enterprise Portal for doing a Single sign on to E-Sourcing 5.1.
When users receive email notifications from the standard mail message templates - the host and port name are from the cluster.
But in our scenario - we want the same document url to be the portal url which then redirects users to the actual E-Sourcing page after signing into portal.
To me it seems to be a very common requirement when using SAP EP to SSO with E-Sourcing.
Can someone guide us on how this can be accomplished?
    Regards,
    Srivatsan

    Thanks Vikram for your comments.
You asked us to raise an OSS message  - Do you think SAP has a solution to this in 5.1? We are currently on SP10.
In the meantime - we developed a small application in portal which redirects the user from portal to the specific mail token %document_url% or document_header_url.
So, basically in the mail message template- we tried adding the path
    http://<portalhostname>:<portalport>/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/RedirectApp.redirectApp?redirectURL=%DOCUMENT_URL%
Now - when the user gets the mail and clicks the link - he is made to login first to portal and then it attempts to redirect to the document. But it somehow ends up taking the user to workbench. In the workbench, when we hit a back button - it takes us to the document (MA or Contract as the case may be).
We are trying to troubleshoot this. But looks like during SSO - irrespective of the URL  (%DOCUMENT_URL%) - portal only takes us first to workbench.
We want to avoid taking user to workbench and want to directly take the user to the document, since we would lose a key functionality just because we switched to having SSO with portal.
    Regards,
    Srivatsan

  • 3.6.13 OS MAC 10.6.6 - cannot open url within Mail with Firefox as default browser

new iMac (March '10) - no problem til last week - as above - when
Firefox is my default browser cannot open url's form within Mail.
OK when I change over to Safari - but going back to Firefox same issue.
Firefox browser opens but the page does not load....
    any suggestions?

I have the same issue. One interesting piece of info is if you quit FireFox (go to dock > right click on firefox icon > quit) Mail will then launch the link into FireFox properly. Somehow though users actions must cause it to fail again. My wife uses our iMac more than I do for email, so I haven't been able to re-create what she is doing to lose the Mail > Firefox functionality. Almost sounds like an OS X bug??

  • URL in mail text truncated

    Hi All,
I am using sendmail step of workflow to send notification.  I have to include URL in the mail text.  If i include a URL which spans over 3 lines in the task description - only the first line holds the URL link and the remaining 2 lines is getting displayed as normal text.
Any valuable suggestions are welcome and rewarded.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Liz.

    Hi
Please see SAP Note 375669 for how to add URLs in wi text.
If this does not help, then you may need to use aliases.

  • Do I have to use Edit-add link each time I want to add a URL in Mail?

There has to be another way to add a hyperlink (URL) like http://www.apple.com to a message in Mail- other than going to the menu, EDIT going to LINK and choosing add then typing or pasting in a box??
I mean even in the 15 year old Eudora Program I was using, if I type http://www.whatever.com I get an automatic hyperlink created! Please tell me that there is a way to set Mail to just interpret hyperlinks (URL's) to turn blue, get underlined and work when I just type or paste them in my message.
    Thanks!

I am using Apple Mail 3.6 (Leopard) and it has been detecting/converting (or whatever you would like to call it) URL's I enter in the body of the email ever since I started using Mail. Unlike the original post of this message, for me Mail has been doing this almost as I type. Unfortunately, for me, I can't stand it!
I post a lot of files to our web server and then email clients and staff links to these files. The links I type tend to be a bit lengthy, about 60 characters or more - typical for web links. My frustration is that Mail will 'detect/convert' the URL to a link before I even finish typing it! I then have to place my cursor wherever Mail determined the end of the URL was in order to type the rest of the URL. This is because when Mail converts the URL it somehow takes me out of typing mode? I have to click in the body of the email again to resume typing.
Once I have finished typing the URL, I then need to select the URL portion that Mail identified and right-click 'Remove', otherwise the clickable link that gets sent in the email will error out because it is incomplete.
Finally, I have to select the entire URL, copy, right-click 'Link' and paste the URL into the Link popup. Frustratingly, sometimes, if I'm not fast enough, Mail will re-convert the original portion of the URL before I can click <OK> on the Link popup, which makes me have to start the process all over again! Very frustrating!
This detect/convert also occurs with email addresses. If I type an email address into the body of an email, Mail usually lets me finish typing it. However, while I might be a sentence or two after the email address I typed in, Mail will detect/convert the address to a link AND take me all the way back to the BEGINNING of the first email address so that as I am typing, my characters are being inserted in front of the email address!?! Again, very frustrating!
I have searched the web several times trying to find an answer to this. I finally came across a method for disabling 'Data Detectors' in Mail (see below if you want to know how to do this). However, frustratingly enough, this DID NOT disable the detect/convert of the URL and email addresses that I am talking about in this post. It only disables the detection of addresses, dates, names for use with the right-click 'Add to Address Book', etc. type of thing, which I don't mind keeping.
Does anyone know what I am talking about and have a solution for how to stop Mail from doing this? If so, I would be very thankful for a solution or any assistance. Thanks.
    Disable Data Detectors
if you don’t like the data detectors that Apple added to Mail in Leopard, you can disable them by opening Terminal and typing...
    defaults write com.apple.mail DisableDataDetectors YES
You have to quit Mail and restart it again. But after that, you're data detector free and loving it. Typing or pasting the exact same string, but changing "YES" to "NO," reverses the setting so that they're back on if you decide to change your mind.

URLs and email addresses are not active when viewed in the Write window. As long as you enter them in the correct format they will be active when sent.
