a) where are the effing widgets, stock, weather, etc.
b) improve Safari. Example of bad behavior - a special wireless url from a major broker house wireless.fidelity.com is basically unusable on this gizmo. Every screen from that site displays in unreadable miniature. Could not SAFARI check the page bounds and enlarge it if room is available on the screen?
c) where do I set up default text size on this thing? In normal Safari that's in preferences. What are the preferences here.

Seriously, this is the best design for this. If you think it's bad, why don't you make a portable music player with wi-fi, an OS you build from scratch, a browser for it, and make it work just the way you want it to. Or at the very least why not say how it could be better, as opposed to just saying that it's wrong?

  • Suggestions for PSE 11 Organizer

    Greetings from a new member. Not sure how to post some usability suggestions for PSE 11 Organizer, but here goes... I realize others have already posted similar comments, which triggered further discussions. However, my intent is just to bring these simple, but to me important, suggestions to the attention of the developers of PSE 11.
    I have used PSE on Windows XP starting with PSE 4, then PSE 7, and very recently PSE 11. Earlier this year, I switched to a Mac OS X system and transferred my photos and PSE 11 catalog to PSE 11 on the Mac. I followed the backup/restore instructions on the PSE support site and am mostly quite happy with the results. However, I’m disappointed that the following usability features of PSE 7 organizer are missing in PSE 11 organizer (on both Windows and OS X). Note that I plan to use PSE on OS X exclusively from now on.
    In PSE 7, when right clicking on one or more selected photos, the popup menu listed “View photos in full screen”, but it no longer does so in PSE 11. Although Full Screen is available on the View menu, having it on the popup would be even more useful.
    In both PSE 7 and PSE 11, that same right-click popup menu lets you REMOVE selected photos from an album. It would be great if the popup menu would also let you ADD selected photos to an existing album.
    In PSE 7, I could display the album list simultaneously with folder hierarchy/tree view (there was no folder list view in PSE 7). In PSE 11, the album list is visible only with folder list view. This makes it impossible to drag photos to an album from folder hierarchy view. Please fix PSE to display the album list simultaneously with folder hierarchy view.
    I suggest that the default folder view be folder hierarchy (not folder list). Or even better, let the user choose the default folder view in Preferences.
    Starting with PSE 4, I organized my thousands of photos in several main folders and hundreds of subfolders. Many subfolders have the same name, and frequently the subfolder name is a date. Because the PSE 11 folder list view doesn’t show the hierarchical context, folder list view is just clutter and completely useless for me. As recommended in other posts, I do intend to start using tags/events/places and other suggested ways to organize my photos. However, this will be in addition to (not instead of) using folders. I like organizing my photos in folders, just as I like organizing my other files (text, spreadsheet, etc.) in folders. Also, categorizing photos via tags, places, events, etc. is not equivalent to, and does not replace, using folders.     The fact is that the Organizer has been built historically on a database to manage keywords and categories with some additional tools to enable folder browsing and managing. Note that for other types of applications like word processors or spreadsheets, you have the same choice with using keywords or folder structures.
    So, where are we in version 12 ? From what I am reading today, I'll risk a few guesses.
    - I am convinced that most people relying like you on folder organization don't use the Organizer or have given up using it.
    - A great part of the critiques about the Organizer come about people not understanding the idea of catalogs and categories/keywords (I know that is not your case)
    - Anoter great part of the critiques is that the implementation of folder organizing in Elements has aliways been lame and buggy.
    What's new in PSE12 is that the folder view has been completely rebuilt. And the result is perceived differently depending on your camp : database or folders...
    - For Folder tenants, the result is two-sided. They are happy to have the folder view with all trees back - They don't see the point of the folder list - They are not happy with the new interface based on new categories (people, events...) - They miss the link between albums and folders as you have mentionned
    - For database tenants, the main advantage is that a lot of bugs have been corrected and that they can use the folders view and folder list as a secondary tool for organizing. The folder list (a feature I had requested) is a great tool for those wanting to migrate from a folder organization to a database one. Usually, the folder names are significant and enable very fast keywording and constitute a powerful search tool.
    - For both camps, the common grudge is the loss of alphanumerical sort order in folder view. I don't care personnally, but I think it's necessary for people working on scans.
    So, my wish is that the next version of the Organizer can satisfy people like you,so that much more people use and are happy with the Organizer

    I want to know if it is possible to re-order the columns of a table once the rows has been inserted in all the columns.
    So for e.g I have initially a table containing 3 columns COL1, COL2 & COL3.
    Now after data has been inserted into the table, I want to re-order the columns like COL3, COL2, COl1 or may be COL2, COL1, COL3 etc keeping the data intact.

What is your reason for wanting to do this? What do you want to achieve by it? If we understand the actual problem, then we may be able to provide some usable suggestions.
    The reason why your request makes very little sense is that the physical sequence of columns in a row in a datablock, has no impact on you as developer writing code.
    Why? Because you control the order in which you want to select columns. You control the order in which you insert columns. You control the order in which you update columns.
    SQL allows you the programmer to specify the sequence of columns, and subset of columns, that you want to use in your SQL.
    Why would you want to change the physical table definition, and rewrite the entire table on disk (using very expensive I/O) to reorder the physical column sequence?

  • Oracle Dev Suite on Citrix

    Hi,
    I'm hoping that someone out there will have a similar situation and can help. First, I'm not a DBA or Developer. I'm a Windows/Citrix administrator. I'm in charge of a Citrix farm running Oracle Developer Suite 10G and Toad. The actual database is on the Sun Solaris side. Our developers use SunRay thin clients connecting to the UNIX side first then running a UNIX ICA client to access the Citrix farm and the Oracle Dev. Suite.
    I inherited the whole configuration and the only thing I can do is to build new, faster servers on the Windows side to help the developers. The environment is such a mess though and there is no documentation. None of the developers are configured just alike and none of them understand anything about what is happening behind the scenes. All they know is that they have problems and are frustrrated. Any help, any usable suggestions (other than trashing the whole system) will be greatly appreciated.
    What I'd like to do is:
    Install and configure the application suite, creating a standard configuration and documentation.
    Configure/Tune Windows/Citrix and Oracle to perform optimally in our environment
    Configure developer roaming profiles/home directories optimally for Oracle suite use
    Configure settings within the suite to tune/optimize performance
    Current Configuration:
    Windows 2003 Server Std., SP3 - 32 bit
    Citrix Metaframe XPe, SP3, FR3
    Sun Solaris UNIX 10
    Oracle Developer's Suite 10G
    Again, any help will be really appreciated as our DBA and Dev team cannot help. It is up to me to figure out what will work best and then to document it so it can be reproduced next time we upgrade. Which reminds me, we're also looking to upgrade to 64bit, Windows 2008 Server Std., Citrix XenApp 5.0 in the very near future. If anyone has any information to share on this, I'd really appreciate that too!

    Why? Uptime/downtime does not tell you availability. The database can be up, but in a "suspended state" due to the archive logger unable to create new archive logs as the archive destination is full. The database can be up, but not accepting any new connections as the max number of processes have been exceeded. The database can be up, but the shared server processing pool exhausted. The database can be up, but the listener down. Etc. Etc.
    If you describe the actual problem/requirement you are trying to address by calculating uptime/downtime, we would be in a much better position to provide you with really usable suggestions and advice.

  • Back to factory settings iMac?

    Can anyone help me with retuning my iMac (intel 2,66Ghz/4GB/320GB) to the factory settings?
    I've been trying a day or two to perform a clean install from the original DVD wich came with te iMac, but i'm not getting any further than choosing wich language to use as prefered language and then the Mac says: "Mac OS X can't be installed on this computer."
    Any suggestions could be very helpful, because i haven't been able to find any usable suggestions yet....

    I've already tried the things you're saying but the Mac keeps coming back to it's report: "Mac OS X can't be installed on this computer."
    There was an earlier version of OS X (10.6.8) installed on the machine, but i wanted a downgrade. So i erased the disk and wanted to install the original OS X 10.6.2
    Now my iMac only restarts as mentioned in my initial post...

  • My ipad mini is not usable because it constantly asks for iCloud password. It also will not connect to network. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    My son's ipad mini has become not usable because it asks for constantly asks for iCloud password. It says that it is not the correct password and the screen reappears. I know the password is correct because I can login to the website via another PC.
    Part of the issue is that it appears not be connected to the network. It appears to be trying to then gets interuptted by the iCloud password request.
    I tried to restore from iTunes when connected to PC, however, it says it cannot do this because Find My Phone has been activated on the ipad. To deactiviate I need to turn it off on the ipad which required my iCloud password (seems I am in a catch 22).
    Any suggestions on how to proceed?

  • Suggestion to Apple: Apps usable in iTunes

    All of the other iTunes products are usable both on the phone and in iTunes on a computer...music, movies, etc. You should make the apps usable in iTunes on the computer as well!

    Not going to happen - not unless the developer for an app compiles the app to be compatible with OS X on a Mac, and/or with Windows on a PC. And if someone were able to pay $.99 cents or an amount under $10 for an app written for the iPhone and iPod Touch and use the app on their computer, there would be no motivation to purchase an iPhone or an iPod Touch for many. Apple makes their profit off the sale of hardware - computers, the iPod, and the iPhone. The iTunes store is designed to be a break even for Apple with all profit made from the sale of hardware.

    Hey everyone, lately i've been doing some thinking on how to improve the website and integrating things as easily and best as possible. Before the flames on this being commercial software begin, just hear me out.
    With minimal - no effort and hacking of the source code we can have these features:
    · Single login/registration for everything below
    · Announcements on front page piping automatically piping discussion to it's own thread in specified forum
    · Blogs
    · Gallery
    · shared login with mediawiki
    · An improved AUR system, with an accurate way to gauge package usage (which i'll describe and show below)
    · Shop
    · Donations system which displays in real time and adds user to a thank you page (unless they choose to be anonymous)
    · Forum system lightyears better than phpbb (current info and userbase simple to import)
    · Very powerful (and easy) administration/privelage system
    · RSS Feeds on every Area you choose to have them for
    · even our user map can be integrated with no effort
    · mailing list threads piped to specified forum and vise versa
    What i'm proposing is vBulletin. An owned license (one time lifetime fee) is only 160$, and i feel with the extra donations this is well worth it, in pretty much every way i can think of.
    AUR system:
    It probably will be easiest to show by example, so here it is - http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthre … did=108515 . The best feature this offers us (along of course with being centralized), is the way the voting would work. Right now, i know i'm guilty, but i just get too lazy and forget to always click to vote on a package i use. And also alot of the time i stop using said package.
    With this system, you click install, when you have installed a package, the contributor can see exactly who installed and who hasnt (Which is good as a way to nudge people who post for support, yet havent clicked install/voted). People will be much more likely to vote/click install a package here, since doing so will enable them to be notified via email every time the package is updated. and when they uninstall and no longer wish to be notified of updates, they just click uninstall.
    I know currently we have the rss feed for the aur which does similar, but afaik it only shows new packages and not updated ones?. Which can be a pain to always check to stay up to date.
    Anyways, give it some thought. I've been using and hacking up vB for quite some time, so if you guys have any questions on other areas, just ask. I'm posting this to the mailing list as well. Don't take this as a flame on the current website efforts. I just feel this would make things easier to manage and stay organized, and better for the end user for the same reason.

    Ok guys, I'm gonna butt in here, I've seen this happen several times before.  While you can discuss all you want, I guarantee nothing will happen unless somebody actually chooses to do something. We talked for ages about a wiki, but it didn't happen until rasat set it up. We talked for ages about a NEW wiki, but that didn't happen until cactus set it up. We talked for ages about forum mods, but that didn't happen until dibble set it up. We talked for ages about Arch64 before syamajala and now andyRTR took on the project. We talked for ages about a custom kernel PKGBUILD before I and later dibble tackled the project. We've talked for ages about gui frontends to pacman and people have set them up and the project usually falls apart, barring jacman. and so on.
    Now, if anyone is *serious* about this project, and I mean serious as in you've thought about it and realize that its HUGE, I would suggest one of two things:
    1) talk to Judd and see if he has any ideas
    2) start hacking something together and show it to Judd
    Now, from previous experience in Arch-related development, I can guarantee that Judd won't just accept or assign someone to start this project. What he will do, however, is provide answers and feedback if someone is working on it, and if he likes the results, he will accept them as well. This is typical arch development.
    I would say that since the website is such a visual first impression of Arch, Judd might want more input into it, but I doubt this is true.... if he was that concerned, something would have been done with the front page before now. ;-)
    Basically, I'm saying talk all you like, but it won't do any good.

    In documents overview the convenient swipe gesture for "delete" already exists. What is about using gesture long tap (pressing/holding down) for
    Pop up dialogue "renaming" or even better
    treat that gesture like edit plus selection and offering immediately a local menu with items: 
    Open, Duplicate, Rename, Move to, Delete.
    In documents overview edit mode the functions duplicate, rename and delete start only one further popup to action, but the move needs one unnecessary step between, because the final dialogue for target choice does not have the proper headline.
    Regarding annotation or comment functions in reading mode:
    Have not found any undo for redlining, underlining, highlighting
    One solution could be toggling back those attributes on second operation
    Of course an undo button would be better.
    I miss default color settings for highlighting, underling, striking through, this could be placed in iOS system setting apps acrobat reader.
    Clicking existing annotations in normal reading mode leads opportunity to modify color as well as deleting, however, that is much too far away from the insertion action in annotation mode and user expectation of immediate correction. Otherwise it is good to have that 2nd way of highlighting selected text in reading mode.
    On transferring annotated unlocked! documents (back) to PC all my effort is getting lost.
    Annotations seems to be kept locally only on iPad instead of merging them with the documents, that behavior is very frustrating!
    Annotation tools bubble (the most left icon) and pen (most right icon) are not self explaining. Any short tap which is ok to open the other tool's dialogues does not work. In my case a longer tap (as for reading mode's local menu) is required to open notice dialogue, how shall I know this?
    The annotation mode tool bar is leaved by tapping up arrow icon at right margin...
    this seems to be inconsistently, because other bars at top are leaved by a type of return button at left margin.
    Minor issues
    Document renaming causes the loss of last reading position (i.e. last page memory) on re-opening.
    For info like this here a feedback button (without either further registration or login effort) should be introduced in iOS system setting apps acrobat reader info or inside AppStore.

    Please Upgrade X6's Firmware by incorporating atleast Support for Homescreen Widgets 'cos many applications on OVi we cannot install just bcos it doesnt support homescreen widgets...At present , i m using Orange TSunami Homescreen (third party application) to get shortcuts / widgets on my homescreen..
    Another feature is Add to favourites in contacts list just like in C6 model.
     Also Birthday reminders with Age in calender.
    Honsetly speaking I m a die hard fan of NOKIA & i hope u will never ever let me down by atleast upgrading this feature.
    When i see C6 & N97 models i feel like cheated.. i hope u will upgrade this feature in ur next coming firmware...

  • HP mini 1010NR not usable outside US!

    I recently bought a mini notebook model 1010NR. I read the couple of sentences in the manual about international use which were totally ambiguous but seemed to suggest that it was usable elsewhere. Having now brought it to France, I just inquired online about plugging it in here and was informed via Chat (i.e.  HP robot) that it requires a voltage converter in areas with 220v current. These cost about 50 euros/$70 here, plus they are extra weight and inconvenience to lug around.
    Is there really no other way to use mini notebooks in countries with 220volt current? Can't I just buy a 220v power cord to connect the power supply to the AC/DC box?Why is HP not more upfront about this, given that it's completely normal to switch the voltage when you take other computers to 220volt areas? I could have plugged it in and fried the whole thing.

    The AC converter incuded with your North American 1010NR CAN be used in other countries, with the exception of Germany for some reason. You just have to have the correct cord and plug for whatever country's electrical system your are using ... the converter does what it is supposed to do and will step down the power and the Hertz cycle [North America is 110 v 60 Hz, most of the rest of the world uses different voltage and plug configurations, and  50 Hz cycle power] for use in the computer. Unfortunately HP charges an ridiculous price [$65 USD] for example for stronger power cord and large plug with fuse that can be used in the UK/Ireland and SIngapore. If you go onto the HP Parts website you'll see all the different power cords ... but you can't order them online you have to call in the US 1-800-227-8164 with the parts number and your computer information]. I'll use my old Dell laptop overseas - they only charged $15 w/shipping for a UK power cord.

    Mobo: MSI 785GM-E51
    Bios: AMI v 2.3
    CPU: AMD Phenom II 955 BE @ 3.2Ghz
    Memory: 2 dimms of  ( KINGSTON KVR1333D3N9/2G DDR3 2GB PC10666 1333MHZ VALUE RAM ) , Total 4Gb
    GPU: Sapphire Radeon X1950 Pro with 256mb RAM
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
    The specific motherboard has an onboard ATI 4200 vga. I've installed the Radeon x1950 pro from day 1 and in the bios settings the onboard vga option reads disabled. However windows 7 during install always recognize both x1950 pro an 4200 and provide drivers. In windows device manager i have the 4200 disabled. However windows display that from the 4GB of installed ram only 3,75GB is usable. Is this normal? Isn't supposed to have all my memory available since the onboard vga is disabled? And if it is disabled from start how windows 7 detect it during installation and suggest corresponding drivers ? I'm looking forward for your opinions and suggestions

  • Error on startup with B1 Usability Add-on

    We are currently running B1UP Version 3.0.1.1 on SAP B1 2007A PL41. We are getting errors on start up and the B1 Usability package is not running properly. I've tried contacting Boyum IT support but they are gone for the day (they're in Denmark) and it's crucial to get this up and running asap so I'm hoping someone can help.
    When all but one of our users log in this morning, we are getting one or both of the following errors. When starting up, the B1 Usability Package goes through the Test of Components but when it gets to step 3/4 an error appears that says "Sorry. An error occurred while making a connection to the client from the add-on: B1 Usability Package. Contact the supplier if this happens again. Do you want to see a detailed error message?" I click Yes and get an error message that says:
    System.IO.IOException: Cannot create a file when that file already exists.

    Another error that a couple of users reported on start up this morning was a System Message that said "Addon BOY_USABILITY failed to pass license check: Invalid character in a Base-64 string."
    In both cases, while the B1 Usability looks like it's running (the Add On Manager says it's connected and you can see the B1 Usability options in the Add-Ons folder in the main menu), none of the modules are actually working (item placements, B1 Validation, menu items etc). For example, if you click a custom menu item, nothing happens. I also cannot open any of the B1 Usability menu items from the Add-ons menu.
    This morning, I added a new UDF to the Recurring Invoices Header table (which is one of the User Tables created by B1 Usability). I had previously done this on my test database and there were no problems. Also, the first time I logged back in after adding the UDF I didn't get any error. Just to be sure though, I went back and deleted the new UDF and tried logging in again but I am still getting the error.

    Thank you for your suggestions. Fortunately someone from Boyum IT just called me back (I guess they were working late).
    The problem was that their website was down and the add-on wasn't able to do the license check because of that. The website is back up right now so the add-on is working again. If I upgrade to a later version of B1UP then this error will not happen when the website is down.
