USB ports stop working after windows 7 installation via USB  Boot camp

topend macbook pro retina 15 model purchased in Jan 2014 ,upto date.OS X 10.9.1
tried installing windows 7 ultimate through boot camp using USB. the installation is fine and smooth. windows 7 ultimate is properly installed but the point where you install the support software through USB all the USB ports die out just before logging in into windows. Also a red light on the headphone jack goes on. NO USB flash drive orUSB device is operational or in other words detected by the mac. Hence neither can I  finish the support software installation which has all the necessary drivers nor connect to the internet . tried the SMC/NVRAM reset as instructed by the apple support but no change in the situation.
USB ports fully operational when boot in MAC os .
Another problem I face is when I try connect my iphone 4S to macbook pro via USB it keeps connecting and disconnecting and makes the charging sound repeatedly . The same iphone can connect to other laptops flawlessly.
please help .
Thanks

Since you just bought it, you may want to make a Genius Bar appointment and let them diagnose the issue. Use your warranty. Bring your phone and cable along too.

I had tried here - the correct driver was not here - it is the USB controller that I am looking for
Ok go to your search bar and type "Change Device installation settings"
and look at my screen shot and this change should make it look for the latest driver.

  • 1 of 2 USB ports stopped working after 10.7.2 upgrade

I have the newest Macbook Pro.  I upgraded to 10.7.2 today and immediately after, 1 of my 2 usb ports stopped working.   Thought it may be the cable, so I switched cables.  Tried plugging in my iPhone, my portable drive and nothing.   Both work on the other port though.   Both ports worked fine before the update.
    I've rebooted 4x.
    Suggestions?

  • Right USB Port stops working after disconnecting device since 10.9.2

    Hi,
Since updating to 10.9.2 the right USB port on my MBA stops working after diconnecting a device (tested: external hard drive, USB flash drive, USB HSPA Modem). The only way to get the port recognizing the device on that port is to do a restart. If the device is connected from starting the MBA it works fine, if I then eject the drive and reinsert it or a different USB device the device doesn't get recognized. The devices do get power, my WD passport ultra spins up just fine, the USB HSPA modem also indicates it's working (with signal) but nothing shows up in finder or diskutility. If the modem is connected from start (and thus working) and then disconnect from the internet but not remove the drive I can reconnect to the internet. The problem only occurs after disconnecting the device. The port becomes inactive. The left USB port works as expected.
    Steps I've taken:
    Disk Persmission
    PRAM
    SMC
    Reapplied the 10.9.2 update
    Sent feedback to Apple

It's an Apple Pro keyboard and mouse, the dongle is
plugged into the Mac and not the keyboard. The same
set-up is, and has been working on all our other
    Macs.
The sleep issue sounds interesting- hum, maybe...
Is your keyboard plugged into one of the USB connections on an Apple monitor? If so, you may want to change that connection to one that is on the G5 itself. My monitor came with a warning note indicating that problems will likely occur if the keyboard is connected to the monitor.
I also had a problem with the automatic sleep function. After much trouble-shooting and a logic board replacement, it was concluded that coming out of the automatic sleep function with any USB device active would freeze the entire USB bus. After disabling automatic sleep in system preferences, I've had no freezing problems. My machine works fine with the manual sleep function in the Apple Menu.

  • Help, 10.6.8 update, all usb ports stop working after 10hrs

I've been running 10.5.8 for ever and finnaly tried to update to 10.6.8.. After I did it, the usb ports all kick out any connected devises after around 10 or so hours. I ran of the install disk, using disc utillty, disk repair, and repair permisions a few times and it did not help.
I did the install a few times  again to try to see if it would help and didnt.
i tried an erase and install and migrated everything over from my orignal back up external drive that is running 10.5.8 and issue is still  there.
My old 10.5.8 back up external drive works fine and does not have this issue, and I have been using that as my start up drive instead and working from there. But that is not really a solution and a temp work around.
Any suggestions would really help. thanks!

I have a early 2008 macbookpro 2.8 duel with silver keys.
I purchaed the 10.6 disk from the apple store. I've had the machine for years and purchased it refurbished from apple.
I did the erase and install and migrated everything over from external drive, then did update to 10.6.8 and the usb ports still would stop working after a few hours.. Then I read on another apple community forus to reset pram, and pull out the power cable, take out the battery and hold power key for 5 seconds, then restart. that seemed to fix usb issue so far..
But overall my computer seems to be running slower then when using just 10.5.8 and it did not wake from sleep once and I had to force power off and restart.. But maybe its just getting used to 10.6.8. we will see..
Also, on another note, my battery is totally dead, and I can only run computer with power cable.. Will this affect things? it never did with 10.5.8..
Oh, on my erase and install, I just did the simplest version and did not do the full erase to zero using he advanced security measures.. I just did the one where it writes on top of everything..

  • First USB port stops working after random time and won't work until I restart

    Hey guys
I have this problem on my late 2011 Macbook Pro 13 inch,
It's been for a year already and it really freaks me out and drive me crazy
My first USB port next to the thunderbolt stops working after like 3 days, and it won't respond until I restart my computer or log off and log in again.
If I restart my computer, USB stops working after 3 days and won't respond until I restart
If I log off it works for like a couple of hours and then stops again
I have tried EVERYTHING, SMC reset - no luck, PRAM reset - same results, Upgraded to lion same results, Upgraded to mountain lion - SAME RESULT
And I can't take it to an apple store because I'm not from the US
I am 100% sure this is a software problem and I've seen here that many people have faced this problem
Please help, it really freaks me out

I'm sure this isn't what you want to hear but unless you really are using your laptop 24 hours a day, is there any reason why you don't just shut it down and reboot when you're ready to use it again? I have to wonder how many other MacBook Pro owners potentially have the same problem but when they quit computing for the day, their computers quit too.

  • MSI P35 NEO - USB ports stop working when Windows starts loading

I've just replaced the MB, CPU, RAM sticks, video card and PSU after the previous MB died on me last week. The problem I've been having is that my mouse and keyboard (they're both USB) stop working as soon as Windows starts loading. They're both functioning during the boot sequence. USB controllers and USB Legacy Support are both enabled in BIOS. I've tried plugging in my old ps/2 keyboard but that one won't work either once Windows has started loading (although it just struck me that it's possible I accidentally plugged it into the mouse port). Any advice on how to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

  • USB ports stopped working on Windows 7

I have a Pavilion dv6-6c57nr and recently the usb ports on the left side of the machine stopped working.   Looking at device manager, it says the Fresco Logic USB hub does not have a driver loaded.  When I try to use the troubleshooter, the program says that the driver did not install correctly.  What am I doing wrong?

    Hi:
Try uninstalling the device in the device manager, check the uninstall driver box, reboot and reinstall the driver from your notebook's support and driver page.

    Hello,
    I recently bought a Pavilion dv6-6c11sa laptop. Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

No programs had been installed 3 days prior to the occurence, although I had rebooted several times in that time frame. I simply booted up the laptop yesterday, and nothing worked.

  • USB ports not working in Windows-7 on MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 after Bootcamp installation

    1) INSTALLATION
Using Bootcamp (v. 5.1.1, OS X Mavericks) in combination with an original Microsoft installation DVD disc using an external optical CD/DVD drive. Note, the installation is NOT from an ISO image. In the Bootcamp setup window only the lower two of the three setup options are clicked, namely a) to download Windows-7 drivers to a USB stick, and b) to partition the harddrive and then to install Windows.
    2) PROBLEM
After the initial Windows-7 installation no devices attached to the USB ports can be found under Windows-7. The ports are dead. Also the WLAN did not work, so no internet connection was possible.
    3) CAUSE
The problem is caused when you use a USB 3.0 stick as destination for the Bootcamp driver downloads. It seems that Windows-7 cannot recognize the USB 3.0 stick properly during the Bootcamp/Windows installation process, thus failing to do perform a proper installation of the Windows-7 drivers.
    4) SOLUTION
Use a USB 2.0 stick and everything will work perfectly.
    Follow these steps in order:
    1) Connect your external DVD drive to a USB port and insert the Windows installation disc
    2) Start the Bootcamp utility
    3) In Bootcamp, remove the failed Windows-7 installation and partition
    4) In Bootcamp, redo the entire Bootcamp process, but this time using a USB 2.0 stick
    5) Follow all further steps in Bootcamp and later in the Windows-7 installation process
    6) At the end of the installation procedures you will be asked to confirm the installation of all Bootcamp/Windows drivers.
    7) Bootcamp installs all the drivers and your Windows-7 installation will work perfectly.

Ok, where is this Intel driver? There is no such thing "program manager" so I am guessing you mean the Programs and features control panel, but on my machine that whole window is blank after a clean install. I still cannot get the USB ports to activate. Two fresh installs and several different USB sticks later and no luck.  Should I just give up and go to Windows 8.1?  I really need Windows 7 to work if at all possible. Other devices shows one USB controller without driver software so I suppose that's the culprit. There are other USB devices installed under the USB section of Device Manager, but they apparently have nothing to do with the USB ports themselves, just devices like the trackpad etc.  I've spent two hours on this so far and it's getting out of control.  Why doesn't this work with generic USB drivers?

  • USB ports not working after OSX 10.9.1 update

    I have a late 2011 MBA 13".
The 2 USB ports stopped working as soon as I updated to 10.9.1.
I tried zapping PRAM and resetting the SMC.
I even turned the thing off for hours and still nothing.
    Any idea how to fix?
Everything was fine until I did the update.
    Thanks.

This is not a known bug affecting 2011 MBA computers with 10.9.1 so there is something wrong with your installation. Since zapping PRAM and resetting the SMC did not work I suggest that you try one of two things but first make sure you have backed up your computer.
    1) download Mavericks and reinstall it. Sometimes an update goes awry and a reinstall fixes it. Since doing this won't disturb any of your data or applications it would be my first choice. You'll be downloading 10.9.1 so you won't have to perform any updates.
    2) boot into the recovery mode, erase the hard drive and then download and install Mavericks. Once Mavericks is finished installing you'll be asked if you'd like to migrate data and applications from a backup. Say yes and if your backup drive isn't already connect it, do so. Select your applications folder and account folders from the list and let the Setup Manager do its magic.
BTW - this is why one of my several backup hard drives is a cloned backup using Carbon Copy Cloner (SuperDuper! Is another good choice). I can boot up my computer using this backup and download the newest version of Mavericks on it if I haven't already done so. I always quit the installer first and make a copy of it because the installer program deletes itself once it is finished which is something of a pain. It gives me more options including being able to boot my computer with it, erase the computer and copy the installer to the computer rather than having to perform the download all over again if step 1 fails. Since I always download a new copy of the OS when Apple releases an update this computer will have the newest version of the installer so I also can skip the download step of option 1 and just copy it over and install on the computer.
