USB to VGA

I wanted to connect an extra screen to my laptop, but I have no VGA output plug. Google taught me that there is something like a USB to VGA adapter, which can be used to connect an extra monitor. For windows I found several success stories, unfortunately for linux is seems to be more difficult since the drivers are not so readily available. Has anyone managed to get this working on archlinux?

Yes, I do have VGA and HDMI ports, but I do need 3 monitors(including the laptop screen - that is LVDS,VGA and HDMI), in intel's info it's written it does support 3 monitors(# of Displays Supported ‡    3), but I guess it doesn't(tried in Windows as well). The question may be the same, yet I don't see an answer.
Has anyone tried using a USB to VGA/HDMI/DVI/etc adapter and with what success?

  • 2 External Monitors - USB to VGA

    Hi all,
So i've just bought the new 21" iMac and I'm trying to connect up my 2x external dell monitors. The 2 monitors only support VGA.
Where this specific iMac only has 1x thunderbolt port, I can only make use of 1 mini-dvi to vga connector. I need to connect up the second monitor presumably by using a USB to VGA adapter. The USB to VGA adapter I just purchased isn't compatible with mac!
Could anyone please recommend a USB to VGA adapter that's compatible with Mac please??
    Much appreciated,
    Jamie.

Matrox makes some 2 and 3 screen adapters:

Mind you depending on your GPU, you may get significant slow down in rendering.  But at least you can setup your system with whatever layout you desire.  Make sure the adapter you get is Thunderbolt compatible.

  • How efficient is it to hook up a monitor to my macbook pro with a usb to vga adapter

I want to hook up a secondary monitor to my comouter by using a usb to vga adapter. However I have read that it may be really slow. Is this true? I already have a monitor connected via my thunderbolt port to hdmi.

Have you looked into Daisy Chaining?

  • Searching for USB to VGA or DVI adapter compatible with linux

    Hello everyone,
Since my HP mini is lacking a VGA connector (in fact, there's a proprietary one, but the cable for that is rare and expensive), I'm thinking of buying an USB adapter to plug a monitor.  I don't care if the connector is VGA or DVi.
There're a lot of these adapters, but I'm not sure if any is compatible with Linux.
After a lot of searches, I still didn't find something  useful.
Is there anyone who had experience with this kind of adapter or can point me some documentation about that ?

Just so I understand correctly... these USB to VGA/DVI adapters are video cards in their own right, yes? Something that I know works with Linux it the Villagetronic VTBook http://www.villagetronic.com/vtbook/index.html. It's a PCMCIA card (which is faster than usb 2) but you can get USB to PCMCIA adapters.

  • Configuring three monitors with USB to VGA

Basically I am having a weird issue that I believe is Leopard causing it. I have two monitors connected by DVI and my third one will be connected by those USB to VGA unit. In my Mac Pro mac os x the unit will not display anything on the screen (used stable and beta drivers) so I tested it in bootcamp windows xp. The unit worked fine once I installed the drivers. Then I tested the USB to VGA unit on my mac book to the monitor in Leopard and the unit worked fine. So basically there is something in my Mac pro OS X Leopard that will not let the third monitor display.
Is there any advice how to solve this issue?

Your Mac came with a DVI to VGA adapter. Why do you need a USB one, when the DVI one is faster and more reliable?

  • USB to VGA? or how view web sites greater than 800x600?

My young children have a couple of hand-me-down iBook G3 clamshells. They're loaded with the newest version of OS X that they can handle (can't remember what that is off the top of my head - 10.3?) They're working great for how they're needed with one exception. Some modern web sites are configured to display a page that is larger than 800x600 AND are configured to disable the browser's scroll bars, so it's impossible to navigate to the parts of the web page that are not visible within the 800x600 resolution native to these laptops.
My first thought was to override the web site and show the scroll bars, but I haven't been able to figure out how to do that. That may be the best way to approach my problem if anyone can tell me how to do that.
My second approach was to look at USB-to-VGA adapters and attach an external monitor (I have an unused one collecting dust). But every such adapter I've looked at lists various versions of the Windows OS as a requirement. Are there any USB-to-VGA adapters out there that have been tested and proven to be compatible with Macs?

You can try Opera Webbrowser (Minimum OSX 10.3)
    http://www.opera.com/download/index.dml?platform=mac
Opera allows to set the global Zoom to 80% which looks like 1024x768
Just an idea for VGA output: You will need a firewire Clamshell which allows you to hook the iBook to a TV with a special cable

Buy a composite-to-vga converter. But i don't know if it will work and the result will be worth the money.

  • USB-to-VGA adapter compatible with Mac?

    Hi,
I'm trying to hook up an additional external monitor to my MacBook Pro using a USB-to-VGA adapter. I don't need any kind of graphics acceleration.
Here is the type of adapter I'm looking at:

Apparently some have gotten the 2nd one to work on Linux with the sisusb driver. Does anybody know if this is compatible with Mac OS X?
    Thank you!

FDK, Welcome to the discussion area!
I don't know of any device that will allow you to output VGA via the iBook's USB port.
You could use a device like the MyVideo to output composite video. Then you would need to use a device called a "scan converter" to convert composite video to VGA.
However if you have an Indigo or Key Lime iBook 366 MHz, it has an AV port. You use the Apple AV Cable for iBook to get composite video out. Then you only need a "scan converter" to convert composite video to VGA.

  • USB to VGA using HDMI adapters

I have an XPS 18 (1810 early 2013) and purchased two connectors from Future Shop to allow me to display a PowerPoint off my Dell All-in-one XPS tablet through a vga projector onto a screen. When connecting the adapters (one usb-hdmi, then hdmi-vga) it shows the 'background' only, not the applications or anything on the desktop. I only displayed this after getting it to look as though it were a second screen. I'm sure I'm not doing this right, but no instructions came with the adapters nor can I find any in Dell's website. Anyone know how to cause an application or ideally the entire full desktop to display through the adapters?  I am running windows 8.1 on my touchscreen all-in-one. I tried all the various F keys (like I would do off a regular laptop) but none did the trick.
    Thank you
    Robbin

Somewhere in your display adapter settings there will be a checkbox to mirror the primary display - that's what you need to look for (and set).

  • 8213 D1G no internet, no usb, only vga

    Hello
I have this second hand 8213 D1G.  Tried to install windows on it. Windows works, but I have no internet.  In the device manager section I see several ! and ?.  At the 'ethernet line'.  If I look for drivers in the properties tab, there is no driver installed.  If I try to re-install, this does not work.  I found drivers on the internet, put it on usb stick.  But the usb ports on the 8213 D1G don't work for usb stick.  They do work for keyboard and mouse.  In the device manager, there are also the ! and ? lines for usb device.  For the rest there is a ! and ? at a vga device.  And the pc only works in vga mode 640 480.  If I try higher resolution, no effect.
I tried win2000 and winxp, both same results....
I checked cmos setup, seems ok.  Is there a 'secret'jumper on the pc board?

I just want to add: tthe led on the back of the pc(network connector)  are on. also the leds on the switch if i connect the cable to the switch....

  • Lumia 920 micro usb -- vga ?

    Hi,
I wonder if it is possible to use a Lumia 920 and a projector with a "micro usb to vga" cable?
    Thanks in advance!

Have a few coming up so need to make a decision on what I want soon. Not much to choose from at the moment. Don't know about the free bit. They will be on contract which is effectively paying on instalments. So might as well get a selection of phones I want to try.

  • PXIe-8135 Displayport & USB

    Hi,
I hope to upgrade my current controller to PXIe-8135RT. My application requires me to have at least four display output (VGA, DVI or HDMI). So now, I have these questions:
    1. Since the controller will run in RT, how do I make use of the two displayports on the controller? I don't need to display fancy graphic, just some custom black & white shapes. Can I use the tools in NI Vision, or is there a more suitable tool to do this?
    2. The controller also have four USB ports as well as two super-speed USB ports. Besides for connecting USB thumbdrives, can I use the super-speed USB ports to connect to my USB-to-VGA video adapter?
    3. Assuming that the answers to the above two questions are NO, will the circumstances change if I use NI HyperVisor (I've seen demos but haven't used one myself)? Perhaps, 3 cores and 3 GB of RAM for RT and 1 core and 1GB of RAM for Windows.
    Please advice.
    Shazlan

For #1 and #2, I am not aware of a way that you can use four monitors with distinct output on a dedicated PXI RT controller, and I don't think that USB-VGA adapters are supported.
For #3, RT Hypervisor might be a solution for your application, but there are some caveats.  Different I/O resources (like the video output, the USB ports, or the PXIe slots) are dedicated to each of the two OSs, and video is typically routed to the Windows OS.  However, the basis for determing what resources can go to which OS gets complicated, so I would encourage you to review some of the existing white papers on RT Hypervisor if you are still interested in this approach.  See here, here, or here.
To give you an example, Hypervisor is intended for applications where you wish to do a portion of the I/O on each OS, and I think that at a minimum 25% of your PXIe slots must be assigned to the Windows OS.  If all you need Windows for is to provide multi-monitor support, you might want to consider alternatives that keep the real-time processing and display on separate controllers.
