Use CW to shutdown unused ports?

Is there a way to have CW (LMS 3.2) shutdown ports that have been inactive for X number of days? I know Campus Manager has the "Reclaim Unused ports UP" where I can enter a number of days and it will give me a list of all the ports that have been unused and are in Admin status of UP, but I'd like to apply that report to shutting down those ports.
Any thoughts?
I could run the above mentioned report and then create a netconfig job for each switch, but that could get annoying if I have to do a large number of switches.
In regards to the reports from Campus manager, is that data gathered from the periodic data collections? How can I tell if CM was able to successfully collect the data?
Appreciate any help. Thanks!

No, Campus Manager cannot automatically shutdown unused up ports.  Doing a Netconfig job would work, but as you said, it could get tedious.  The data for these reports is built from User Tracking acquisition data.  You can always check to see if an acquisition completed, but checking the Campus Manager homepage.  Check the last completion date, and make sure it corresponds with a recently scheduled UT acquisition.

    Hi All,
I have installed Oracle 10gAS PatchSet-2 9.0.4.2.0 and Windows-2000 SP-4 OS. The Both instances (INFRA & Mid-Tier) are installed on same box. My AS is working fine and all components are working great.

I can find-out the ports being used/configured by 10gAS of this installation. Rest all other Ports are open as such on this OS and are not being used. So basically i want to "Block all those Unused Ports of this 10gAS installation"
    1. Is it Possible..? If Yes! how to start about this.
    2. Does Oracle Provide a Documentation on this or the details of this is included anywhere in any of the Docs.?
This has been pointed out by one of our Corporate Auditors who has audited our entire IT Infrastructure setup and given us that comment. Can anybody would help me in this regard or suggest me tips / docs. which could be useful to me. Looking for ur help.

    Hello,
I would clarify what i need and intend to do......
Let say my HTTP Server is configured and listening at port 7779 & 7778. And the range of this is 7777 - 7999 as provided by App.Serevr.
SO i want to block all the ports of above range and ONLY want to open or allow requests coming for Port No. 7779 or 7778.
What all is being used by App.Server is know to us and we can find it out and list it....but how to block them...here in App.Server.

  • Identifying Unused Ports

We have recently purchased Amtech design software with a flexnet service licence and need to identify an unused port exclusive use of flexnet communications.   Is there a prefered method for identifying a suitable port.
    Thanks for your help

    Hi MZAMike,
Dose the Amtech design only need a unused port? Are there any other requirement?
We could use the command netstat –ano in CMD to see the used port.
Additionally, we could use the TCPView to show us detailed listings of all TCP and UDP endpoints on the system.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/Sysinternals/bb897437.aspx
It is recommended to use high numbered ports.
As this issue is related to Amtech design software, it is recommended to seek help by contact the Amtech support.

I would like to use the second TCP / IP port of my NI cRIO-9024 to control my Agilent 33210A pulse generator with VISA TCP/IP.
My Agilent has only TCP/IP and GPIB ports.

All the MACs (from my old 2006 PPC Mini) will auto detect ethernet crossover and straight through and rollover cables correctly. They should be Auto-MDIX.
Having said that, the FW800 (via TB) and Ethernet should be very close in terms of performance.

  • Using 2nd Built-In Ethernet port for internet access?

    Hello,
I have a Quad-G5 running 10.4.8. In its current configuration, all its network communications, including web access, go over the active ethernet port (Built-in 1).
Does anyone know how I could use the second built-in port for internet access only? I'd like to route local traffic over the first port, but go "out" over the second.
The machine is on a corporate network, and proxy access is slowwww. I have the ability to use a direct connect to the internet, but still need to be connected locally. Any thoughts? Many thanks . . . JD

Easy. Go to System Preferences > Network > Network Port Configurations and drag the port connected to the internet to the top, so that it has priority over the port connected to your LAN. This prevents DNS time-out when loading a website, but still allows LAN traffic over the other port because that traffic is most likely going to use ARP rather than DNS. For good measure, you can add your company's domain (such as "my_company.lan") to System Preferences > Network > Internal_Ethernet > TCP/IP > Search Domains.

  • Using both Dual Gigabit Ethernet Ports

Using both Dual Gigabit Ethernet Ports
If I plugged both of my ethernet ports into my LAN switch, that would double the bandwidth to and from my machine. A switch does not used shared bandwidth like a hub does. I realize that it won't speed up any of the other devices that are plugged into the switch. Regardless, I would have the capacity for double the bandwidth to my machine.
All LAN cables are CAT6 and the switch is 10/100/1000.
The question is, would Mac OS X 10.4.7 utilize both ports (soft of the way it uses multiple processors)?

It's easy to try... it's call "Link Aggregation"...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304120
You get to it by Network>Show>Network Port Configurations>New then Port in the popup, then you schould see Port Aggregation. Selt the two ports you wish to combine.

I have an airport extreme 4th generation (n) and airport express i think model 1084, which is not n technology. I want to connect the express to extreme base station wirelessly and then use the port on express to connect a non wireless PC or TV to the internet.  I do not want to run a wire from base station to the computer and wanna use express's ethernet port as LAN port.  I understand this can be done in wds mode, but my extreme (n) does not allow anywhere to set up a wds under the airport utility.
do i need to buy a new  express or a new extreme?  If i buy a new extreme can i connect the new extreme to old extreme base station without a wire and then use the LAN ports on the new extreme to connect to a computer or tv using rj45.

Suggest that you download and install the more functional and useful AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion , which can be used to administer both the older "g" and newer "n" devices.
    Open AirPort Utility 5.6
Select the AirPort that you want to administer
    Click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icons
Hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the Wireless Mode selection box and the WDS setting will appear so that you can make further adjustments as needed.

  • SRP547W, How to use multiple WAN IPs for port forwarding?

    Hi folks,
We've run into some difficulty trying to take advantage of multiple WAN IPs in conjunction with the SRP547, and I'm hoping someone here can help out or at least tell us that we're going to need to buy a different router...
What we're trying to acheive is the ability to port forward from our distinct public IPs to different internal servers. Looking at the options under Port Forwarding it looks like we can only configure forwards at the "WAN interface" level, but our problem is that we can't work out how to set up separate interfaces for each of our Public IPs...
Our ISP provides us with a fully managed NTU/router with a single "Internet" ethernet port, which we can use by statically configuring IPs on our end. For this configuration this port has been directly patched to the WAN ethernet port on the SRP547W.
We have been allocated a 255.255.255.248 (/29) subnet, giving us 5 usable IPs after the ISP's gateway address is taken into account, like so:
    a.b.c.208     Network Address (/29 subnet)
    a.b.c.209     ISP Gateway
    a.b.c.210     IP1
    a.b.c.211     IP2
    a.b.c.212     IP3
    a.b.c.213     IP4
    a.b.c.214     IP5
    a.b.c.215     Broadcast Address
On the SRP we've set up the default "Ethernet WAN2" sub-interface with the following details for IP1
    VLAN ID:               4088 (Uneditable)
    Connection Type:       Static IP
    Internet IP Address:   a.b.c.210
    Subnet Mask:           255.255.255.248
    Default Gateway:       a.b.c.209
The next step (I would have thought) would be to add a second sub-interface, using similar info for IP2
    VLAN ID:               4000 (Chosen arbitrarily)
    Connection Type:       Static IP
    Internet IP Address:   a.b.c.211
    Subnet Mask:           255.255.255.248
    Default Gateway:       a.b.c.209
When we try to do so however we get:
    Fail!
Conflict with Ether_WAN2 interface address type
I should mention at this point that we're running on firmware version 1.02.01 (023).
Any suggestions on how we can proceed?
Is there a CLI or other method of configuration that might work if the web interface won't?
    Thanks,
    Tim.

OK, I've seen reference to this solution before but not much in the way of details. Perhaps you can spell out how this ought to work, as the Software DMZ doesn't behave as I'd expected it to.
As before, on the SRP we've set up the default "Ethernet WAN2" sub-interface with the details for IP1 with a /29 subnet.
    VLAN ID:               4088 (Uneditable)
    Connection Type:       Static IP
    Internet IP Address:   a.b.c.210
    Subnet Mask:           255.255.255.248
    Default Gateway:       a.b.c.209
We'd now like to expose a server function on IP2, let's say LAN details for this server are:
    VLAN:                  3000
    VLAN IP Range:         192.168.1.1/24
    Server IP:             192.168.1.10
    Server Port:           80
So first we turn on Software DMZ:
    Status:                Enabled
    Public IP:             a.b.c.211
    Private IP:            192.168.1.10
    WAN Interface:         Ether_WAN2
My understanding, based on what you've said, is that this should expose the whole server to external access via IP2. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work this way - we don't seem to have any access at all. Perhaps there's a default deny rule on the firewall?
Just to be sure, I tried creating a rule to allow HTTP traffic to the server in the Advanced Firewall page.
    In Interface (WAN):    All
    Out Interface (LAN):   VLAN.3000
    Source IP:             0.0.0.0
    Source Subnet:         0.0.0.0
    Destination IP:        192.168.1.10
    Destination Subnet:    255.255.255.255
    Protocol:              TCP
    Source Port:           Any
    Destination Port:      Single:80
    Action:                Permit
    Schedule:              Everyday
    Times:                 24 Hours
Still no dice. What am I missing?
    Cheers,
    Tim.

  • RT: How do I use two independent Ethernet ports?

I have looked around at the forums and seems like no one has had a real solid answer or example on how to use 2 Ethernet ports with RT.
Right now I have two connections configured on the RT:
    Primary Connection:
    IP:192.168.2.181
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1
    DNS Server: 192.168.1.1
    Secondary Connection:
    IP:192.168.1.180
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1
    DNS Server: 192.168.1.1
After using this initial setup, I made a RT project where I used 'UDP Open' for both 192.168.2.181 and 192.168.1.180, and had them both read and write in a sequence (Read and Write for the 2.181 connection, then Read/Write for 1.180).
The computer I'm using to send the data is connected to a switch, which in turn is connected to the RT. Both the RT and my host computer have 2 ports, one of them with ports configured to be 192.168.2.x and 192.168.1.x
Using this configuration I get some weird results:
If I send a packet to 192.168.2.181, I receive it from the UDP Receive vi that has an input connection from my UDP Open assigned to 1.180. I also receive the data the same way when sending packets to 1.180 (as expected). Basicly, no matter what IP I'm sending it to on the RT, the data from either packet will arrive from the same location/vi.
Why is this? Is there anyway to fix this? Did I not configure something correctly?
Does anyone have an example of dual Ethernet ports actually working with LabView RT?
I tried checking out "KnowledgeBase 3VQ6278T: Can I Use Multiple Network Adapters in a PXI or Desktop Real-Time System?", but after following the link to the page, I get:
"Error You are not authorized to view this document". Can any NI people look into this?
Having to make two IPs with different subnet masks obviously just makes things unnecessarily complicated. Can anyone tell me why LabView/NI did this? I know for a fact this isn't a limitation in hardware.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

    Hey Weizbox.
Sorry to hear you're having such a difficult time using multiple ethernet devices with RT.
Let me go ahead and get the easy stuff out of the way, the link you
have is dead because it's archived (and thus removed forever) though
unfortunately the link on ni.com wasn't corrected to point to the
following resource, which the KB was a word-for-word duplication of
(which is supposedly why it was removed):
        http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/370622C-01/lvrthelp/configuringdual/
Unfortunately, though, it's much less useful than it sounds.
Before you start feeling like a woodpecker in a petrified forest, lemme
fill you in on why the requirement is there for the two ethernet NICs
to be on seperate subnets.  Simple enough, it has to do with the
network stack on both of the operating systems used for LabVIEW
Real-Time - however, the same falls true for even Windows (without
using fancy vendor-specific drivers), so let's not be too hasty.
Neither PharLap ETS nor VxWorks, the two OS's used under the hood,
support redundant network ports.  Because of this, if you give two (or
more in the case of PXI and RT Desktop) ethernet devices IP addresses
on the same subnet the routing tables in the network stack get horribly
confused and literally cannot resolve the proper adapter, which either
brings down the ethernet on the entire system or makes it such that one
or more network adapters becomes useless and one adapter takes over all
network traffic (there's no way to predict which adapter that will be,
nor can you control it based on what's plugged in and what's not).  On
Windows this is handled by bridging the adapters, but RT does not yet
support bridging (that opens a whole nother can of worms).  Long story
short, you still wouldn't be able to give both NICs individual IP
    addresses on the same subnet.
Let's take that even one more step.  You cannot simply just assign both
ethernet NICs different IP addresses on "virtual" subnets, you actually
need to put both NICs on literally different subnets for the network
routing to actually work.  Multiple ethernet devices for LabVIEW RT
were designed with the following mantra in mind - "The FIRST ethernet
device is designed for a TCP/IP network, the SECOND and SUBSEQUENT
ethernet device is designed for OTHER protocol uses."  By "OTHER
protocol uses" I mean the second NIC should be used for RT
Deterministic Ethernet (PXI, RT Desktop, et. al.), direct connections
with other targets, and 3rd party or custom ethernet protocols.
Now, realistically, we can't expect users to not use the second NIC for
TCP/IP use, nor should we.  However, if you ARE going to use TCP/IP on
the second NIC, you should only use the second NIC for connecting to an
unroutable network in the eyes of the first NIC.  So, for instance, the
FIRST NIC can have an IP address of 10.0.62.128, but the SECOND NIC
would need to have an IP address on 192.168.100.23  - and the
10.0.62.128 should not be able to route a TCP packet to the 192.168.x.x
network, and vice versa.  In your example I noticed that both networks
used the same Gateway - unless your Gateway is configured to identify
and seperate the two networks, it's not going to end well, and you
shouldn't expect to be able to send data from one NIC to the other NIC
(at least with what you know now).  To reiterate, using multiple NICs
using TCP/IP should only be done in cases where you've got (n-1)
isolated subnets, where n is the number of NICs you have using TCP/IP.
    A classic example of this is a command-based measurement environment;
the RT system uses the FIRST NIC to talk to a TCP/IP network, in order
to transfer data or provide status to a network, and the second NIC is
connected to a TCP/IP network designed specifically for measurement or
control, where one node sends commands to a single or multiple nodes on
the network at once to perform tasks (like "Take a Measurement", "Stop
a motor", "Bake me a Pie", etc...).  The isolated TCP/IP subnet is free
from "random" TCP/IP traffic (especially system announcement
broadcasts) and can have whatever topology/configuration it wants.  The
dual networking allows the RT system to work/communicate/perform on
    both networks.
I hope this helps shed some light on your situation.
    Cheers!
    -Danny

  • Any way to find unused ports in Prime LMS 4.2.3 ?

    Hi all,
We have just installed Prime LMS 4.2.3 (about a week ago), and it is pretty much working as expected, except for one thing - I cannot get any data back from the reclaim ports report.
I have tried both the Ports Up and Ports Down options, and have even taken the time frame down to one day, but always receive a "no records" result. Has anyone got this working?
Pretty much every other report I've tried so far returns results, just not this one.... We really need to use it to determine (over a period of time) what our actual port usage is for our replacement schedule over the next few years.
    -Pete

    Hi Afroz,
The detailed device report is really useful, as it contains the time of the port change - I ran it for the switch I was interested in, and then exported the data into Excel and sorted on port status and change date to get the info I needed.
I also ran the "Reclaim up ports" again with the interval set for 15 days with zero result, however when I changed this to 5 days I started to get some info - my guess is that the data that is needed  for this report is collected once every week or so.
My server has been running for nearly two weeks now, so I will let it do it's thing for about a month, then run the report again to get some better statistics.
Thanks for your suggestions, much appreciated !
    -Pete
