Use Flash Controls without Flash

You can spend hours searching keywords concerning the use of
Flash UI controls -- including skinning via Styles -- outside of
Flex Builder. There are quite a few extensive, and helpful
postings. But I cannot find anything that helps with trying to use
those controls even outside of the context of Flash CS3.
Is there any way for those of us who cannot afford the
expensive development tools, to be able to build solutions -- just
using the SDK and the command line compilers -- that incorporate
those UI Components, or is this a purposeful product marketing
decision to only allow applications to be built incorporating those
controls if you license the IDE?

Nobody offered a suggestion though!
I have the same problem. Have chosen to disable it in YouTube because the HTML5 just won't load. It all looks good, sitting there waiting with the usual placeholder there, but when I click on it, nothing loads.

Is there a way to create Flash video without buying Flash? Is
    there video
editing software that will export to this format or a utility
    that will
    convert to this format?
We want to do flash video and only flash video and would
    prefer not to spend
the money for the Flash software when we don't want or need
    to use it for
anything else. It would make more sense to buy video editing
    software that
we could use for making videos and then export to swf format.

    Hello Brandon.....
I think a number of video editing software packages can
    produce FLVs..
The main one I know of is Sorenson Squeeze alternatively try
looking for FLV compression, FLV Creation or FLV editing in Google.
Sothink Flash Video Encoder can also covert to FLV from avi,
    wmv filel types
www.videodl.org will allow you to take YouTube and google
video and covert them to FLV.
    Hope some of this helps.

And is there any way to play .exe file without showing that message if we dont have flash player?
    Thank you

  • DW CS5 use ActionScript files without Flash

Our websites must avoid requiring a Flash download in the client browser.
Can we use Dreamweaver CS5 with ActionScript files (.as) without requiring Flash in a browser?
For example, DW CS5 menus include File -> New ... -> ActionScript,
but I cannot find literature or examples on using .as with Dreamweaver.
    thanks,
    Bruce

ActionScript is the backbone for Flash applications (FLV or SWF).
Unlike HTML & JavaScript, ActionScript is not a web programming language per se.  It is a Flash programming language.  And while some web devices support Flash many others do not.
If your site cannot use Flash then your ActionScript will need to be replaced with a suitable web alternative.  Perhaps jQuery or Ajax (JavaScript & CSS).

  • Can ordinary text be used to control a flash function?

    Everyone,
I'm new to flash but I have a fairly specific problem I'm trying to solve. Here goes:
We create documentation in FrameMaker 7.2 and publish it in PDF format. We have a lot of screenshots in our documents that each contain several objects that I would like to point out to users. Historically, we'd just use captions such as "a) main menu; b) drawing toolbar c) formatting menu".
I'd like to enable users to click an item in the caption and have the corresponding item in the screenshot to become highlighted or circled so that users can see it easily. It seems like it should be that hard to do in Flash; but, here's the catch: the caption text must be ordinary text. Since we localize all our documentation, our localization vendor must be able to read the caption using there scanning software.
    Can this be done?

Thank you for your interest in my question. Let me see whether  I can further clarify it. In an ordinary PDF document, assume that I have a picture of a user interface for microsoft Word. The common method for identifying items in the picture, such as a toolbar, would be to either:
--use a callout labeled "toolbar" that points to the toolbar
    or
--use a callout labelled "A" and have a caption underneath the picture that says: A) toolbar.
What I would like to do is have text underneath the picture such as:
"The major features of the interface shown above are:
    toolbar
    main menu
    status bar
    formatting menu"
such that, when the user clicks one of the bullet items, the object becomes highlighted in the picture. The bullet list also needs to be translatable into Japanese. So, as far as I know, it can't be part of the swf file. Or can it?

  • How to update flash sites without flash installed

    Hi,
aside from using ICE, is there a way for someone to update a flash site with pictures and text who doesn't have flsah installed on their computer? i.e., how can you add as well as replace additional text and image files without doing it in flash and publishing a swf file everytime?
    Kind regards,
    Steve

It depends on to what extent you mean to add new content.  You can add content dynamically, but the groundwork needs to be in place in the swf for the data that defines the content to be processed as well as for placement of the content.
XML is one commonly used way of defining content.  All a person needs is an ascii text editor file to change the content of an XML file, and the ability to upload that file to a server (or an interface could also be created for them to create that document online, but that's another system in itself).

  • How to close an error dialog using software control without user's response

    Hi all,
I was wondering if there is a way to press "continue" button programmatically when an error massage pops up. In USB communication application, if an error occures because of disconnection of USB cable, in this case VISA would generate an error windows, I am working on an effect that when the user reconnect the USB cable to the system, the error massage would disappear automatically. Your ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards
    Peter Huang

Thanks for your reply, I think I didn't make myself clear enough. I mean in my application, We hope user to see a popo up warning if USB cable somehow accidently disconnected. But we hope it would automatically close by software condition say detecting the reconnection of USB. I am thinking a way to avoid the susppession of code execution when error dialog box comes up, so that my programme would wait and hold an error window until certain boolean condition is met, then finally close itself.  So far, the information I found is simulating key stroke, another possible option is using invoke node with OK button as a control. Any other ideas?

  • Embed flash file without using IFrame UI

    Hi all,
Can any one tell me how i can embed flash file without using IFrame UI ?

    Hi
To run a flash file you will definetely need a platform for which you need a shockwave player or a simple browser window. From webdynpro, the purpose of making it run through a IFrame is at runtime, the frame acts as a window for the flash file to run. Hence its the direct option of running it. Otherwise, you need to use a external window to invoke it seperetely in a browser window to run the file.
If you have any specific issues, do let us know, or else its the best option @!
    thanks

I was able to make a bootable CD-ROM containing the latest BIOS and flash it without using those pesky floppy drives/disks. Whole process took like 5 mins. I don't know who Bart is but hats off to him in a huge way!

All different brands of floppies all different brand of Floppy drives. I have a better chance winning the lottery then getting this floppys to work right. LOL

  • "the activex control for flash player could not be registered" - Solutions Roundup

I recently ran into this problem on my computer:
    http://at32.s3.amazonaws.com/flash_install_problems2.jpg
I am a Flash developer (as in I write SWFs, I don't work for Adobe).  and when I updated IE to 10.2, "the activex control for flash player could not be registered".  Since I am a developer, I also have Firefox and Chrome installed, with Flash running without problems.  For a long time now, Internet Explorer has used a different version (ActiveX) to the other browsers, which use plugins.  I am a strong supporter of Flash, it's great to develop with and has a very wide feature set which is growing all the time, unlike fixed technologies/standards.  However, the weakest part is the install process - I don't understand why their is a Download Manager.  Google Chrome does it's best (so far) by managing the install/update process entirely in the background.  Anyway, it was in my best interest to try and get to the bottom of this.
For the record, on the problem machine I have Windows 7 with IE8, but I have seen almost  identical symptoms with IE9, Windows XP SP3, as well as various  iterations of Flash Player (10.0, 10.1, 10.2 and even some final  editions of version 9).
First I tried the standard support here:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html
Basically, doing the manual uninstall and manual install of the latest version (without using the download manager, or have IE open).  This did not work.  I also tried the Microsoft "subinacl" program, together with "reset_fp10.bat".  This didn't work either.  However, you should try all of these things first before progressing further.
A quick note about people who had tried running the following at a command prompt: "secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb /verbose"
I didn't do this, because on investigating further it didn't seem to work with Windows 7, only Windows XP, Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 - though there was a few threads where this had fixed the problem for some users.
For my solution, it is recommended you use the manual uninstall / installers, so you should have them downloaded ready to use.
I then heard about problems with permissions in the registry with the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\shockwaveflash.shockwave
So I opened regedit.exe (start - run - typed "regedit.exe"), navigated to the key and sure enough, I couldn't open it - permission denied - even though I had an administrator account.  If for some reason, you can access this key (and any subkeys), then it's likely the following fix will not resolve the problem.
I then done further diagnosis, by using Process Monitor to try and install Flash Player, and I got the following:
    http://at32.s3.amazonaws.com/flash_install_problems.gif
This shows all the access denied errors the Flash Player install was experiencing when trying to write to the registry key.  This confirmed that this was the problem.  I only stress this because several people said it was unwise to tinker with the registry.  Though this is common advice, this is the only known fix for this precise problem at present, since you need to manually adjust the permissions yourself.  I don't know who is at fault here - Microsoft or Adobe - but let's just get Flash fixed...
    The solution:
Firstly, you may want to backup your registry, or the exact key.  I didn't do this so I've provided no instructions on how to, but it is recommended for the paranoid.  Also make sure as much software is closed down as possible - browsers, IM software, any junk in your system tray. As way of example, I happened to have "BBC iPlayer" installed and running in the background which uses Adobe AIR and Flash Player, so I exited that too.
    1) Open regedit (start - run - type "regedit.exe").  You may need to right click on it and select "Run As Administrator", but I didn't as my account was already administrator.
    2) Navigate to the key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\shockwaveflash.shockwave
Click on it to confirm that you cannot access it (you will get an error) - if their are no problems - this probably isn't the cause of your issues.
    3) Right click on it and click Permissions, and ignore any message that may pop up.
    4) Under "Group or Usernames" click "Add".  Type your account name name, or "Administrators" in the box, then "Check Names" to format it correctly, then Ok.
    5) Now on the next screen click the checkbox to enable Full Control (this will also automatically enable "Read" permission too).
    6) Click Advanced, then the "Owner" tab at the top.  You will see that their is no "Current Owner".  This is what we will now fix.
    7) Click on your name to change the owner to (I went for Administrators).  Also enable the checkbox entitled "Replace Owner on subcontainers and objects".  Then click Ok.  You will get an error message, which you can try clicking Retry to, but hit Cancel - this is not a problem.
    8) Click Ok a couple of times and this part of your registry is now fixed.
    9) Now it's a simple case of running the manual Flash uninstall program, then finally the manual Flash installer (for Active X - not the Firefox/Chrome plugin versions).  To my surprise, after a couple of days looking into this - I finally had a solution and Flash in IE once more.  If you are using Firefox too you may find Flash is no longer installed their (the uninstaller removed it).  In this case just install via the Adobe site or try to watch a video on You Tube and you will be prompted or linked to the install.
Hope this provides a good round up of the possible solutions to this problem.  Hopefully Microsoft or Adobe can find out what causes this issue in the first place so we don't have to go down this route for much longer.  Chrome's implementation of Flash shows how effortlessly things can work!

They will stay on the screen.  However, Process Monitor is only intended for advanced users.  It is recommended that users try to navigate to the troublesome registry key using regedit, and see if they can access it or not without an error.  This is far easier than trying to use Process Monitor, which is very complicated.
I used Process Monitor to confirm that it was just that key which was causing the problem, and not others.  Process Monitor is not to be confused with the new Resource Monitor which is accessible via Task Manager in Windows 7 (and possibly Vista).  If you must experiment (and Process Monitor is very useful for diagnosing many deep-level problems if you know what you're looking for) Process Monitor can be downloaded from here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645
It replaces the older Sysinternals "FileMon" and "RegMon".  For those interested in the technical side, I had to setup a number of filters to be able to get the results display as in the screenshot.  First of all to just show Registry events.  Then to just show events from the manual Flash activeX installer executable.  The I added a filter to show only non-successfull results.  And finally, for the purposes of the screenshot, added a filter to just show those with "Access Denied", since other non-critical errors are also picked up due to missing keys because installation has not yet been fully completed I guess.   When experimenting, most of these filters were applied using the "is not" boolean logic, which will make sense if you experiment with the program.
Without adding any filters, it picks up so many events (hundreds per second) that it's otherwise unusable.  e.g. 40,000 events within the first few seconds of opening the program. For this reason, I recommend simply using Regedit to diagnose the problem with the particular Flash registry key.

  • Alternative for HLS HTML streaming trough JW player for users without Flash?

    Hello!
I am using HLS TS Streaming trough JW player for the largest group of users that have flash for streaming video's.
Is there an alternative for users without flash?
    Best regards

    I will just summarize myself...
Adobe media server supports rtmp and HTTP(HLS and HDS)..
for rtmp streaming the swf running in a Flash player is the standard interface...that flash player may be an activeX control/plugin in your browser or may be a standalone player downloaded from adobe website...Chrome web browser however users a slightly different( PPAPI based) flash player(which is different from Adobe flash player) and is developed and maintained by google.
For HLS and HDS, you can either use special players(i.e swfs)(Flash based) developed Adobe by Adobe e.g Strobe meida player(Open Source Media Framework Blog | Adobe’s free and open source media playback system) or you can use players like jwplayer(Video Player Download | JW Player Online Video Player)... Incidentally jwplayer has added simultaneous support for playing rtmp streams too(which is reallly good), but i do not have much insight into workings of jwplayer...

  • Flash file without navigation?

I'm trying to use Encore to create a short swf file *without* the embedded navigation buttons. I have looked through the help (which IMO is terrible), looked online and been all through the options in Encore. Can anyone tell me how to do this?
    Thanks,
    Avian

    Not using Encore, no.
Encore is primarily a DVD-authoring tool. It also exports to Blu-ray and Flash, but the usage model of all of its export formats remains primarily DVD-type functionality.
If you want complete control of Flash video, Flash might be the tool that will provide the most control. Expect a steep learning curve, though.

  • Adding swf (Captivate clips) into RoboHelp: flash controls don't work

    Hi all,
I've added captivate swf project and ALL the flash controls (toc, play etc) don't work, though it plays continuously from the beginning. If I extract that page HTML code and play it separately, it works on all browsers. I render RoboHelp projects as MS HTML Help.
Are there any known issues with rendering flash clips in Microsoft HTML Help? it looks as it is using some weird embedded browser for swf.
    any suggestions?
    thanks

    Hi again
Okay, this gets curiouser and curioser the more I look at it.
At first blush it appeared things were working. Then I tried the playback controls. Odd, the controls will allow a single click and they will carry out whatever function you clicked. But that seems to be it. Further clicks appear to be disallowed. I tested with a fresh Captivate movie as well as one that uses the Domain Lock Widget.
Wondering if this was an overall issue with SWF content in general or if it was simply tied to the Playback Controls, I then tried adding some button objects to each slide to allow the user to navigate from slide to slide. This seems to work.
I thought (hoped actually) that perhaps it was simply the default playback controls causing the issue. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be. I tried creating a SWF using the Aluminum controls. Same issue.
At this point I have to admit that I'm more than a little stumped. I'm surprised that I've not heard of this before or that others haven't reported it. However, I use Captivate files in my CHM files all the time. The main difference is that I never use playback controls in my movies. I am always using either Buttons or Click Boxes to navigate.
So being generally unsatisfied and poking it further, I seem to have found the culprit. I did the same thing in RoboHelp 7 and there wasn't an issue. What was different? I scrutinized the code and there was no difference. Hmmm
Then it hit me. The difference here was that where the Captivate playback control only functioned after the first click, the RoboHelp project was using Browse Sequences. So I edited the window definition and turned them off. BINGO! The Captivate works fine now.
I also tested using RoboHelp 7. Same issue there as well.
Definitely this should be reported to Adobe as a bug. Link is in my sig.
    Cheers... Rick
