Use Labview 5.0 on Wondows2000

Hi.
I have used your Labview 5.0 on my PC(win95).
My question is as follows;
is it possible to use this Labview v5.0 on Windows 2000, now ?
If not, how to do for that is possible?
Please tell me.
Thank you.

Is it true that we can upgrade for free to version 5.1? I currently use
version 5.0.1 and the NI.com web site says that an upgrade will cost me
$295.
Can anyone clear this up?

How to let the user define the colors for each plots in the graph (I
    use LabVIEW 7)?

    Hi,
Take a look at this example, it uses property nodes to select tha
active plot and then changes the color of that plot.
If you want to make the number of plots dynamic you could use a for
loop and an array of color boxes.
    I hope this helps.

  • I am trying to use Labview and RP1210 compliant hardware to connect to a truck J1939 bus and receive messages.

I am trying to use Labview and RP1210 compliant hardware to connect to a truck J1939 bus and receive messages.
Specifically I am attempting  to read data frames using the RP1210_READMESSAGE .   am able to configure the hardware and send a message to the J1939 bus. .    I think I have not configured something correctly.  I can use the RP1210_SENDMESSAGE and see the message I have sent on the bus using CANalyzer   When I use the RP1210_READMESSAGE   I get the timestamp from a message and the return from the function sends back the correct number of bytes (the number matches the number of bytes I sent out plus four bytes from the timestamp).  What I am having trouble with is actually receiving the data. I have had the same type of behavior from two different hardware (Vector CANcase XL and Nexiq USB Link), so I don't think the issue is vendor specific.
Has anyone been able to make the RP1210_RECIEVEMESSAGE function work correctly?
    Thanks for any help

    Thanks
I have already tried that.  The links are the NI RP1210 wraper. The problem I am having is using labview to interface with the RP1210 layer.  The RecieveMessage char*fpchAPIMessage this is the output which is a pointer to a cahracter array.  In this variable I can receive the timestamp of the message but not the message.  The retun showns the correct amount of bytes are aviaable (18 for a 8 byte message) but I can only get the 4 byte timestamp  I think I have to dereference this pointer to view the data.  I am not sure how to fix this.

  • How do i open and control other programs using labview?

I'm presently trying to use labview to try to open and operate another program, but having much difficulty. The external program i'm using is called the Foundation program.
This Foundation program will use VHDL programming to create a virtual chip and then synthesising it.This program will then simulate the output of this VHDL program to verify that it is working as desired. Then the last stage is to download the whole VHDL program into a FPGA chip using a xilinx cable.
All this need to be done using a labview program - to open the Foundation program and then extract the saved file and then to execute the download command to cause the VHDL program to be downloaded onto the FPGA chip. How do i go
about doing all this? What is the first step i must do.Also all this have to be done thru networking..looks like its too difficult..I really need help.
    grays

I haven't done VHDL so pardon my ignorance.
LabVIEW can call external DLL via "Call Library Function" or C programs via "Code Interface Node", both located in "Advanced" function.
If your program is a DOS program, use "System Exec.vi" found in "Communication" function. If you need to format your DOS command prior to sending it, use the "Format Into String" function in "String" function palette.
Lastly, if you're trying to extract data, assuming it is text, use "File I/O" functions. If the data is binary, use "File I/O -> Binary File VIs".
Hope that answers most of your questions.

Thanks for your reply.I will try to answer your questions.
I have checked the Device Mananger and I have seen that the device is detected by Windows  XP.  For another question the card shows up under both NI-DAQmx Devices and Traditional NI-DAQ (Legacy) Devices consistently in the Measurement & Automation Explorer.I use a way that I reset the driver for traditional NI-DAQ in MAX,and then i reset the device for NI-DAQmx driver in MAX and again i tried to run the test panel of DAQmx driver but again i saw a wrong signal or noise signal on the test panel i could not see the sinusoidal signal that i connected. i do get the test panels to run with the card using the DAQmx driver,  But could not run the DAQ diagnostic utility. The error was as i specified below.

  • How to use labview to control a robotic arm by EMG signal

    Hello,
I am working on simulation of an active Exoskeleton (wearable robot) for the upper limb using LabVIEW for my senior project. I need to use the EMG signal as an input to move the elbow joint (flexing and extending). I downloaded labview biomedical toolkit to take a ready simulated EMG signal but have a weak experience in LabVIEW.
The design criterial I am planning to use is to establish a threshold for the EMG signal using a comparator (above 0 for example) and set a counter for everytime the signal passes the threshold as(+1) in every count. Then, specify a degree value for the counter (for example when the counter reaches 10000) and feed this value of the counter to a simple simulated structure for the joint (simple angle of 2 lines) or a meter to represent the movement.. e.g. every 10000 count = 1 degree of movement. Zero crossing can also be used instead of the comparator and the signal will be filtered and that is easy to do. However, my problem is in converting this logic into LabVIEW. I don’t know how to set a counter for the signal and make every number of counts refer to a specific degree of movement and I also don’t know how to form the simulated joint structure in LabVIEW or even how to transfer this into a simple meter device in LabVIEW.
I have only one month to do this project so any help or ideas you provide are highly appreciated
    Thank you ,

    CarlFHellwig
Thank you for providing this example I just implement  it in the software to check the counter results.
In fact, the design criteria I desided to use latly is to use is to establish a threshold for the EMG signal using a comparator and correlate the EMG signal with the angles of movement of a simple simulated structure "motor" for a single joint (simple angle of 2 lines) eg. 30,60,90,120,150 degrees for flexing and extending. Zero crossing can also be used instead of the comparator and the signal will be filtered and that is easy to do.
In other words, the idea is to drive a motor for different angles based on the input EMG signals. I am now stuck with developing the algorithm of how the angles are related to the RMS value of the signal while flexing and extending and how to convert this RMS into angular velocity and angular position to form the simulation.
I will be grateful if someone guided me to a person did a similar project to discuss some issues.

  • How do I use LabVIEW to control and vary the voltage on my Agilent Power Supply and simultaneously record temp from 1 DMM and voltage from another DMM?

I am using an Agilent Power Supply  to apply a voltage to a
thermistor to heat an Al chassis.  I want to use LabVIEW to tell
the power supply to apply 5V for 10 minutes, then step to 7V for 10
minutes, etc.  I am completely new to LabVIEW, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
In addition to that, I want to place a type J thermocouple onto the Al
surface and use a Keithley 2000 DMM to monitor the temperature (it has
a built in conversion from V to Temp for type J).  I will also be
using another Kelthley 2000 DMM to record the output voltage of a new
uncalibrated thermocouple.  I would like to collect the output
voltage for this uncalibrated thermocouple and the temperature reading
from the type J simultaneously.  How should I go about doing this
in LabVIEW?  I will be using version 6.1.  The power supply
and DMMs will be connected to a PC using GPIB.
Again any suggestions would be greatly appreciated- I have no idea
where to begin on such a project.  I have taught myself how to
make a basic VI- converting temp in oC to oF, but  that is as far
    as my knowledge goes.

What you want to do should be fairly straightward and a good way to learn labview.
First off, if you haven't already, I would download the drivers for the Keithley and Agilent instruments.  I found the keithley drivers at the link below.  You will need to find the labview drivers for the Agilent PS at their website.  Drivers are the VI's you will use in your program to control the insturments.

If you open Labview and go to the help menu and click on Labview bookshelf there is alot of information on getting you started coding labview.   This should get you started, if you have anymore questions just ask in this same thread and I am sure you will get all the help you need.

  • How do I turn off background ni file activity when not using Labview? files such as nimxs.exe, nipalsm.exe, nipalsm.exe, nisvcloc.exe, nicitdl5.exe

How do I turn off background ni file activity when not using Labview? I use labview rarely, and I also use my computer for demanding multimedia applications, including multitrack digital audio recording. I need to reduce as much background activity as possible, and taking a look with task manager I see files such as nimxs.exe, nipalsm.exe, nipalsm.exe, nisvcloc.exe, and nicitdl5.exe running even when I haven't used Labview (8 I believe). These files run even after I right click the NI icon on the lower right and turn off the application. I would like the computer to boot up without these files, and for the necessary files to be activated only when I start the program.
Can this be done or do I have to remove labview from the system to improve performance?
    Thanks

Hello, those processes are part of running NI services that start when Windows boots.  These processes serve varied purposes and stopping them can have undefined and unknown consiquences for your NI products.  These products run at "normal" priority meaning that they should be preempted by any process running at a higher priority which I would expect your other application to be doing given their time sensitivity.  That being said, in Windows XP (I can't speak for other OSes), you can lower their priorities even greater through task manager (right click the process»set priority) to further remove them from contention for resources.  If you want to prevent them from running you can set the service startup type to "manual" in Control Panel»Administrative Tools»Services.  Right click the process go to Properties and Under the General tab choose Startup Type»Manual.  This will start up the processes only when something directly starts it up.  LabVIEW will start these processes up as it attempts to use them.  When you shut down LabVIEW you will need to manually shut down these processes through task manager.  Again, doing this can cause problems with your NI products on your system and it is not advised.

  • How do I browse & play .mp3 files from a USB flash drive using Labview 8.0?

I'm a tester & want to test USB flash drives connected to PC.
I want to browse the file system & playback the audio files, .jpeg files etc in the USB drive. I've Labview 8.0. When I searched for some examples or VIs which can detect the USB flash drive, couldn't find any. So if you could point me in the right direction, I can find a solution to my problem.
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You probably won't find specific examples for this.  A USB flash drive is mounted by the OS and appears as a new memory storage device to all software on the PC, including LabVIEW.  You can certainly write a LabVIEW program to open files on the stick and play/run them but I would create a VI that wrote files to the stick and then read them back and checked them for bit-level errors.  Keep in mind that your OS might be doing parity checking under the hood which would make your test rather meaningless.
BTW, testing memory by looking at pics or listening to MP3s would be useless of course.  A human can't see or hear bit-level errors in a high bandwidth data stream.

  • How can i use labview.tlb to control Labview from an external application?

    Hi,
I've been told by a labview engineer that i could use the file
labview.tlb located in the labview install folder to control labview
from an external application (in my case, a C# app). I'm using Labview
6.1 under Windows 2000. This article confirms that:
    "ActiveX and LabVIEW"
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/webmain/5401BE584FBAEECE862567C2006D36C7?opendocument
But i've not been able to find out how to use this file to achieve
what i want. I just want to be able to open/close labview, open/close
    a vi, start/stop a vi, hide/show a vi from a C# application. The above
web page talks about activex but i really don't see the realtion
between activex and that labview.tlb file.
    Is there so
mebody around who knows how to use that file? Why does NI
tell us that it's possible to do what i want to do but doesn't explain
how (or hides this info very well)?
    Thanks

Thanks for the link, i actually already found this link before. I've
found yesterday how to use Labview.tlb, just add it to the references
of the project, it was probably too easy for me at that time:-) But
now, i'm still stuck as there is no doc about using the interfaces and
classes of this activex to control labview.
The example given on your link is made is C++ and for some reasons,
the wrapper generated for Labview.tlb when i added it to my c# project
doesn't seem to expose the same
interfaces and classes as the one used
in the C++ example. I therefore can't use the C++ example in C#.
I've tried to do something like:
    LabVIEW.ApplicationClass a = new LabVIEW.ApplicationClass();
Just this line causes labview to launch but then immediately throws an
exception: "Query interface for interface LabVIEW._IApplication
    failed".
Does somebody knows how to use that control in C#/VB.NET ?

  • Process Failure when communicating over MODBUS using LabVIEW 2011 and DSC

I'm currently trying to read from a PLC's holding registers using MODBUS/TCP. I've confirmed that the PLC is updating the values and responding to MODBUS communication correctly using a third party program called Modbus Poll. However, when I try to poll the PLC using LabVIEW's shared variable engine, I am unable to read any values from the same addresses that I'm viewing with Modbus Poll.
My setup simply consists of a PC connected directly to the PLC over Ethernet, with no router in between. I am using LabVIEW 2011 SP1 with the DSC module.
I opened the NI Distributed Systems Manager to view the status of all shared variables in the Modbus library that I created and I've noticed that the CommFail bit is permanently set to "true". All other variables with a "read" access mode report "Process Failure". I've tried restarting the process as well as stopping and starting the local variable engine with no success. I've also restarted my computer several times to see if any services were failing, but this does not seem to have fixed the problem.
I finally resorted to monitoring communications over the network card that I have the PLC plugged into via Ethernet using Wireshark and I've found that while Modbus Poll is communicating with the PLC, many MODBUS and TCP packets are sent and received. However, when solely using LabVIEW or the NI DSM to communicate with the PLC, there does not appear to be any communication over the network card.
Something that may be worth noting is that I was able to communicate with the PLC and read values from it with the DSM on just one occasion, when I first figured out which addresses I should be reading from. It all stopped working shortly thereafter. Prior to this, "CommFail" was not usually set to "true" with my current configuration. Thinking that it was my firewall, I have since turned my firewall off, but this seems to have had no effect on the problem either.
Any help on this matter would be appreciated.
    Solved!

Just a thought but I think the  register addresses used by LabVIEW are one off of the actual register #.  I was using a CRIO as a modbus IO Server and had to shift the register addresses by 1 to get things to work correctly (can;t recall if it was +1 or -1).  This is documented somewhere on ni.com but can;t seem to find it now.  But here is another  link that may help:

  • Performance comparison---using LABVIEW..between Embedded and general-purpose Intel's single VS multi-core CPU

    hi guys;
kindly, can any one tell me : is it possible to use Labview installed on desktop pc to show up statistically the main performance key features between mutlicore systems and single core systems but with (two versions, embedded and general purpose CPU) . in other words: I'm trying to resemble embedded cpu with general purpose CPU so that i can only work on Desktop pc than say that the obtained results are the same for embedded multicore CPU.
to get things more clear:...embedded multicore processors are now hitting the embedded market segments such as (small and portable devices with internet, multimedia and wimax tech. enabled that take advantage of recent multicore tech.).
general-puroses Multicore processors: like desktop and servers based processors,
according to what 've read, Intel is producing same processor model but with different applications : (embedded and general-purposes applications)

    Hello,
Please look at this page which shows a new feature in LabVIEW 2009, but particularly interesting is the video which shows the performance benefits on a PC platform of single core VS multicore.
LabVIEW doesn't have any ability to emulate a multi-core embedded processor (unless its an intel x86 processor that labVIEW supports!) so to discover the performance benefits of embedded multicore processors, you would need an external hardware board and devise a test in which labVIEW can measure the timing via an external pin toggled by a program running on the embedded processor that could utilise multiple cores (there may be other ways but this is the way that comes to my mind).
    I hope this helps you!
