Use MacBook Pro power cord with iPad?

Hi all - if I remove the two prong AC plug from the iPad's power brick, the exposed connector looks like it will accept the extension cord that was included with my MacBook Pro's power brick. Is there any reason I couldn't use the Mac's cord with the iPad's power brick this way? I assume not but just want to be safe.

Hi,
Is there any reason I couldn't use the Mac's cord with the iPad's power brick this way? I assume not but just want to be safe.
Not is correct.
Only use the cables and the 10W USB Power Adapter that came with your iPad. Otherwise you could damage the hardware and void your iPad warranty.
If you are running v10.4.8 on your Mac as your profile suggests, be aware the minimum system requirements for the iPad for Mac is v10.5.8 as noted here.

I bought a used macbook pro that came with xcode, this means I can develop Apps but to publish in App Store needed pay developer fees? Or must pay these fees from now?

All you have are the basic tools. Without a paid program in your name, you cannot distribute apps to the store.

  • Can I use macbook pro install Disk with macbook?

    Hi everyone,
I have a macbook and macbook pro, I had to reinstall system after harddrive went on the macbook. I can't find my macbook restore disks/installation disks. Would I be able to use the macbook pro install disks with macbook?
    Much appreciate your help.
    Mo

It might work but it's risky. The MBP installation disks may well not contain the right drivers for the MacBook. It would be better, if at all possible, if you contacted Apple tech support and asked for a new set of disks for your MacBook. They'll send you a set for a reasonable fee. If you can't wait, perhaps there's an Apple Store or other Apple dealer near you that would have a set you could borrow in-store to do the reinstallation.

  • Using Macbook Pro Power Adapter on a Macbook

I have a Macbook Pro and someone else in my family has a Macbook. Recently they misplaced their power adapter and started borrowing mine to use until theirs was found. I was uneasy about it, but it seemed to work okay. I know that the adapters are slightly different but will it hurt the Macbook to use a Macbook Pro power supply?

It's fine. The MB will only draw the power it needs. FYI, the MBP adapter is 85 W, the MB's is 60 W.
    Hope this helps...

  • Itunes on macbook pro not synching with iPad

I am trying to copy music that is in iTunes on my Macbook Pro to my iPad.  When I connect the two devices and begin the synching process, none of the music and playlists on my Macbook Pro transfers to my iPad, which currently says I have "No Music."   I subscribe to iTunes Match and thought whatever I had on my Macbook Pro would also be available on my iPad. On my iPad I do have iTunes Match and Show All Music turned ON.

This topic has been discussed in-depth on this forum.
With iTunes Match enabled on iOS devices traditional syncing via USB or Wi Fi is diasabled. All music management takes place directly on the iOS device. To sync via USB turn off iTunes Match on the iOS device.

  • MacBook and 17" MacBook Pro Power Cords Interchangable?

Can I use the adaptor/charger (both are MagSafe) from my MacBook on my 17" MacBook Pro? Is it safe? Will it harm the the battery?

You cannot. The MacBook Pro uses an 85W power adapter, while the MacBook comes with a 65W adapter. You can safely use the MBP's adapter with the MacBook, though.

  • Exposed MacBook Pro power cord

This is happened before, but I forgot where I got a free replacment. The power cord for MacBook Pro ripped from pressure where it naturally bends. I don't feel comfortable with the wires being exposed. Do I call Apple's general 1-800 number. If so, which option do I press? I no longer have a warranty on my MacBook Pro, but this tear was due to how the power cord is constructed or not any damage I did to it.

I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • NEW macbook pro power cord not working

I just bought my macbook pro 3 weeks ago and for some reason my power cord is not working to charge the computer. There doesn't appear to be any damage to it and I've tried plugging it in to different outlets etc. and no luck. I noticed one day that it was blinking on and off from charging and not charging and then the next day it just stopped working completely. Is this a common thing? Should I just go buy a new one?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Your power adaptor is under warranty as well as your new Mac. If it isn't working, Apple should replace it for free under warranty.
You might want to try resetting the SMC:

This is likely the first thing they would do at the Apple Store, and it may well solve the charging problem.
    Good luck!

  • Use macbook pro optical drive with mac mini

Just received my new mac mini. Wonderful.
I would like to keep my old 2006 Macbook Pro 2,2 and use it as a DVD drive. It is running 10.7.5.
Would you please give me some advice and pointers?
Also, I have a few files on the old MBpro I would like to transfer to the Mac Mini. What's the best way?
Finally, what else could I do with the old machine? It was a fine computer, and it feels sad being underused.
    Thanks,
    K.

    Amazing.
It took just a few minutes to find answers to my questions. Congratulations for such a user friendly OS.
I just had to connect everything and open the finder on my mac mini.
So, here is what I found:
    - "Remote Disc" is the name of the feature to share the optical drive
    - not every type of disc is supported though. Why? How can I watch a DVD on my 27'' display?
    - the MBP files show up in the finder, i can transfer them
    - using "share c=screen" I can see my MBP screen. Should I use that feature to watch a DVD on the 27'' display?

  • Macbook pro power cord frayed and not charging

Ive just noticed I have the same power cord problem. I plugged in the cord into my macbook and noticed that the light did not turn on. Upon closer inspection I noticed the wire was frayed and was real hot. I have not moved my power adapter or have had something happen for it to be that bad. Im not sure if Im still under my 1 year warranty plan thing, but I was wondering if I took it into the apple store they would still replace it. So if anyone has been in this situation and knows the best option, besides spending the 80 bucks for a new one I would greatly appreciate it.

    Hope you feel better.
I assume the OP bought it there and can certainly go back under the 1 year and show them another melted one as there have been enough melted ones for them to know this is a bit of a problem. He can call Applecare as well of course.

  • Does Applecare cover MacBook and MacBook Pro power cords/bricks?

I've replaced several over the years.  They seem to be the weak link in these laptops.  My Applecare is still in effect on the latest Pro.  Has anyone dealt with Applecare on this issue? Specifically, in  the area behind the small mag-safe plug a wire(s) seems to have broken connection. Thanks.

The original adapter that came with the machine for which you bought AppleCare was covered. If you had the first one replaced under AppleCare, the subsequent ones might also be covered, but only as long as you continued to apply to AppleCare to cover them. If you just went and bought them, they're covered only by their own warranties.
Damage of the kind you describe is caused by user abuse: disconnecting the plug by pulling on the cord (accidentally or deliberately), or bending the cord too sharply right behind the plug. If neither of those things happens, the cord won't fray and break there.

  • What are the consequences of using mismatched wattage power cords on macbooks?

I am fortunate enough to have a macbook air, a macbook pro, and a macbook at my house. Sometimes the power cords get mixed up. What are the consequences of using the lower wattage macbook air power cord with the macbook pro and vise versa?
    Paul

It will work but it isn't recommended. The PSU of the MBA will be charged for the maximum amount of power it can deliver so it might break sooner than normal, but I doubt you'll ever notice it if you're not doing this on a daily basis. It might also be possible that your MBP will not charge (as fast) from the MBA PSU.
The other way around is no problem since the device will only ask as much power from the PSU as is needed.
